National museum showcasing the cultural heritage of Pakistan, with rare manuscripts, art & more.
Very nice historical place Those who want to know the history must visit Pakistan
20PKR/adult .. Really a historical place to visit. Every peice of history is stuffed under one roof. Beautiful and calm peaceful place. Well management, cleanliness at its peak. Air conditioning system was OK. And most importantly well organised. Its sad that its empty even on weeknds. Pakistani people must come farward to visit this place atleast once to get knowledge about history of the subcontinent.
It is a very, very pocket friendly place and definitely worth a visitThe Museum is well kept and well maintained, all the way from the outside to the exhibits inside. There are also a variety of exhibits (10 in total), such as calligraphy, the Harrappan civilalization, the founding of Pakistan, the Buddhist civilizations, etc. It takes about 2 hours to look at everything at least once and thats wonderfulAll of the periods of history also have ample things at display, and there was definitely more than I thought would be there! There isnt any guided tour through the museum so one must have a little knowledge or spend time reading the placards but it is one small downside to the overwhelming positives.Would definitely recommend!
Historical place , full of information from pre-historic to 1947 till Pakistan promulgation.
The National Museum of Pakistan was established in Frere Hall on 17 April 1950, replacing the defunct Victoria Museum. Frere Hall itself was built in 1865 as a tribute to Sir Bartle Frere, a Commissioner of Sind during the 19th century. Once the Museum was inaugurated then the Government of Pakistan deemed it wise to constitute an Advisory Council in 1950 with a primary duty to counsel the Museum on the issues of enriching its collection through new acquisitions and purchase of antiquities and works of Arts. The Museum was shifted to the present premises (located in Burns Garden, Dr. Zia-ud-din Ahmed Roadin 1970.I was lucky to visit the museum on a day with very low turn out. There are at least two entrances to the museum, one right across the DJ college and other from Strachan road. Main entrance has a beautiful arch with historic calligraphic tiles from Bhambore. The museum lawns displays at least two stone cut works of Buddha, which are beautiful. The other lawn displays calligraphic tiles.Inside, the ground floor has Islamic gallery, unarguably the best kept gallery of museum. 1st floor has galleries. The Pre historic gallery (Harrapa), Two galleries devoted to Indus Valley civilisation including the Moen Jo Dahro gallery displaying the original of Priest King, Gandhara gallery with a big collection of Buddha statues, coins gallery, Pakistan movement gallery and Quranic gallery.Museum has so much to offer but it does need uplift and maintenance. I was glad to note that at least two galleries were closed and being renovated.
Very good experience at thus place, many old things is available to see
Gem of a place in Karachi, took me 35 years of my life in Karachi to visit it which is such a shame. A must visit with kids worth at least two hours with accessible parking. Next to non existent entry fees an asset for this city for sure!
National Museum of Pakistan is Situated at Burns Garden , near I.I. Chundrigar Road , Karachi. It is one of the place where I used to go along with my father since my childhood. It has a large number of historical artifacts on the display . While visiting this magnificent Museum , One can go in the past and experience the life of old civilizations. This Museum has a wide range of ornaments , seals , pots , arms , coins, statues etc; from the Indus civilization and Gandhara Civilization . When we closely monitor all those items , we realize the expertise of those people living centuries back . City model of Mohen Jo Daro is quite fascinating as it exhibits the most admiring parts of the city and illustrate the uniqueness in a most prominent way. When we go to different departments in this Museum and observe a lot of historical antiques then we get more and more knowledge about those civilizations . Indeed it gives us some surprising ideas about the life in the past. If you want to witness the impressive history of past civilizations , then you must visit this Museum in Karachi.

Good place but closed for renovations now days. Call them before departing twords it.
Great place to visit for history lovers. Its completely uncrowded even on weekends, which shows low interest of our nation in history, and hence the state of our nation. Sorry for the rant. Its a good place to visit with family instead of wasting time and money in shopping malls.

Its an amazing place. You can get information about the history of Pakistan, heritage of Pakistan, different cultures and art of Pakistan, Islamic Calligraphy and Islamic art, different civilizations (who lived in the area of Pakistan B.C & A.D). Specially Quran Gallery must be visited. You should visit National Museum specially with your children.
Was too hot to enjoy the museum. ACs were there but 80 percent of them were not working. no nearby shops to get anything cold. very bad experience.
Its mostly empty. The information boards are really good, but the place can get hot and it can dampen the experience. More funds and attention could be directed here.
Great place for All age group. Rich historical figures of Pakistan and specially of Sindh province. One of the oldest civilization of the world was in Sindh. This place really very full of historical figures. Photos not allowed but you have to visit to see yourself the rich past of Pakistan.
Place with lots of historical value items. Specially you can get an idea about Mohendajaro civilization , Gandhar civilization. Excellent guide by the museum officials. Good atmosphere in the museum. Many ruins related to buddhism. Highly recommend
The outside of the museum is beautiful and the inside shows you items from throughout the entire history of Pakistan. They did especially well at explaining the differences between the provinces, however, I sometimes missed more context. As a tourist, do a bit of research before going to the museum.
The best introduction to art is to stroll through a museum. The more art you see, the more you’ll learn to define your own taste.”
Must visit for all history and museum lovers.Tickets for adults is Rs.20, for children its Rs.10 and for foreigners its Rs.30People are encouraged to bring children also.It showcases many original artifacts from the stone age to modern dayQuran gallery also has many unique and priceless scripts.Buddha and Hindu artifacts are also eye opening
Great historical fiction art designs old peoples legend things and amazing thins . beautiful place for tourists
The great treasure of Pakistan history Specially Holly Quran Gallery is the main attraction and Different culture of old centuries also let you stop and time gets so fast when you walk in that museum
A good place to visit if you want to know about , Mohenjo Daro, Harappa, Gandhara civilizations. A Quran Gallery is also there. You can also have a glimpse of Pakistan Movement and the native culture of Pakistan.
Must visit place for people who like history. However, the place needs a bit of renovation and the tags on some of the objects were missing as well.
Really nice place for the art fertility and like-minded
History lovers must visit. Good collection of artifacts. Friendly and cooperative staff. Ticket for adults is 20 rs only. Students can visit for free.
Good place for kids to show them about the history of Pakistan and History of Indian Subcontinent.Green gardens where kids can also enjoy. Ticket is very economical. You have to take their staff permissions to use camera.
Many thematic rooms: Islamic art, Protohistoric civilisations, Indus Valley civilisation, Gandhara, Moghol, independance of Pakistan, coins, old korans.
A very good museum. It has variety of sections from Indus civilizations, Islamic culture, calligraphy history, Quran section where a number of hand written Qurans from old centuries are placed, then Pakistan cultural section having representation from all provinces. But the section I liked the most was Tehreek e Azadi section of Pakistan where original belongings of Alama Iqbal, certificates awarded to Quaid e Azam and lot more is placed. The only not so good thing was entrance. It was not so clear because of recent construction of food street and underground parking.Park leading to museum needs attention. One more thing, its entry ticket was probably printed in last century; Ill share its picture, check yourself. . .
Very nice place.Informative things available at museum about Pakistan history, moen jo daro civilization, old Quran and so many thing
Employees weren’t following covid guidelines, place seemed dusty/not clean (excluding the Quran section which was amazingoverall it’s a good place but they should start taking more care of a museum holding such history.
We never knew that there are many museums in Karachi and in all the museums we never knew that there is one museum named a National museum of Pakistan situated in Karachi which give you the glimpse of the history with the help of the things that one could never think about. At our first visit we explore so many things, it was a huge experience we got from there and lots of information about the Mughal Dynasty, Gandhara civilization, culture of all the provinces in Pakistan sum up in one gallery and yes things during or before the partition of Pakistan and yes calligraphy of Quranic Literature. It was a WOW experience for me.
I have some pictures , i have enjoyed alot & i hope you will enjoy it too.You can take pictures also , its allowed.
The place was not well directed, hard to find.Ticket price 20 adult 10 children.Building need attention for renovation.Lots of street dogs in the park leading to museum.Poor eating place near museum.Overall kids were happy.
Its a good place for students as it covers cultural awareness, historic concepts. Description is well written, lightning and ambiance is good. We need to work on improving sign for parking, entrance and ticket counter. Digitizing and adding 3D could attract young generation. Activities to engage youth will bring more people. Ticket is reasonable so that all types of people can afford. Souvenir shop and tuck shop could bring more economy.
To see the historic things in this building so amazing place for visitors.
I visited the museum in February 2021 with my family. I was very excited to show around my kids (came from London the historical things of our country.I have to sadly say that the staff from the reception to each department was extremely unprofessional. They had no willingness to assist the visitors in understanding the valuable objects, no welcome greetings or a word of courtesy etc. I believe this might not be in their job description but a smile or welcome greeting wouldn’t cost them anything but would definitely leave a friendly impression forever.Staff should be given basic informative training as per their relevant departments.Staff with proper uniforms and museum lanyards would also add great value to the overall quality of the museum.I couldn’t find any souvenirs shop or booklet stall there. These are sources of revenue and give visitors an opportunity to take some physical memories with them. ( please advise if there is any shop there....)*Harappa* section was closed (read some reviews saying this has been closed for some times). No alternate arrangements were done to display the valuable antiques.
Needs proper care. Most of the rooms were closed. The cleanliness was fine. It does need more marketing to attract people. It does have some exciting stuff too.
A very nice place to visit in karachi. Any one can go, with family also. I will specially recommend for young childrens. Not maintained well, but still must visit place. Very informative galleries, specially Pakistan freedom movement gallery. Also Quran Gallery is wonderful.
Enriched place to explore cultural heritage of pakistan. It contains history of different religions in sub-continent, story of Muhammed bin qasim, mohenjodaro, harapa, makli, ghandhara and galleries to portray culture and ethnicity of all provinces. It has special section for holy quran written in different writing styles, motifs, gold and colors. It has a hall full of how Pakistan came into being with highlights of national heros and leaders. This place is surrounded by big gardens and statues. Be careful about dogs. This place closes by 4pm and ticket cost is pkr 30 per person for locals and cost around pkr 300 for foreginers. People with wheel chairs may face difficulty because did not notice rampage to go upstairs. Highly recommended place to visit for history lovers and students.

Excellent place for people anxious about history of the oldest civilisations in the world. Countless items of interest for all sort of visitors from inside and out of Pakistan. Good effort by the management to preserve history, which is one of the worlds best kept secrets.Ticket is Rs.20 for adults, which can be increased and generate funds to upgrade and improve the place.
A lot of history of the earlier civilizations and the history of the ideology of PakistanThe basic objective of establishing the National Museum was to collect, preserve, study, and exhibit the records of the cultural history of Pakistan and to promote a learned insight into the personality of its people. The Museum has a collection of 58,000 old coins (some dating from 74 Al-Hijra), and hundreds of well-preserved sculptures. Some 70,000 publications, books and other reading material of the Archeology and Museums Department were also shifted to the National Museum so that general public could see them. Every year National Museum holds around a dozen exhibitions on National Days and other occasions.
National Museum of Pakistan is worth visiting place amid historical venues and things of historical values
Obsessed with museums. It has some antiques just like Monh Joh Darho and Gandhara dated and some unique currency of Pakistan and folk of Pakistans home appliances. The rest of the museum is fine and worth paying a visit.Lawns are well kept and a traditional Sindhi cuisine restaurant serves visitors well. Museum has so much to offer but it does need uplift and maintenance. I was glad to note that at least two galleries were closed and being renovated.
We enjoyed our tour of the National Museum despite its rather tired and dusty presentation. There was a variety of exhibits including a wonderful display of calligraphy in various ancient scrolls and Qurans. This facility is open early so good way to fill in the morning before other businesses open. Easy to access as central.
Great place for a history lesson in our heritage... Not very fancy or highly maintained. Guide was helpful but not highly knowledgeable..Good place to take kids after they have studied the Indus valley civilization. There are also old scripts of Quran which are fascinating to look at
A good experience about 5000 + history of our home land.....Mohenjodaro Harrapa..potery, jewellery, seals, sculptures.teracotta toys..... Hindu and Buddhist sculptures. Old age coins etc.....
Attended Hope Festival 2018 today and watched live performance of Shima Kirmani, Kami Sid, Areeb Azhar and a impressive play "Khamoshi ke cheekh" by Woman democratic front performed by Sadaf Thallo and others.
