National Museum, Calabar - Museum in Esuk Oron, Nigeria
A very nice and cool place to learn historical facts about Calabar.
Wow a place to be.
Historical treasure and educational reserve.
Poor environmentThere was no guide around
This area is educative
Very friendly museum tour guides. The museum is filled with very valuable artifacts and relics from as far back as the 13th century. The Old Residency building itself, which serves as the home of the museum, is a work of art. A must-see on your first visit to Calabar.
A nice place to visit
Craves for proper handling and improvements. The place is apologetically a shadow of what it used to be back in the early 2000s and this is all down to neglect from both officials and the government. Politics sadly has wrecked so many things in our nation and this edifice is one of it. There is still some bit of hope if only we can get the right people to handle/manage places like this.
This is a Musuem located at exactly the very spot where lies an old structure. The museum is currently the hot spot for many old artifacts. If youre interested in history, then this is surely the place to be. You gotta visit if youre interested in history and want to know very much about old history. Calabar Musuem is a must visit place.
Its old, but gold. Many interesting relics here
This old and run down building holds so much undiscovered history, and artifacts.Guides are available to walk you through the dark details of every artefact, slave trade in Nigeria and the history of Calabar in general.
Its a nice place.
The place is very beautiful, history of old Calabar show cased beautifully especially the building that was shipped in parts from Britain. Epic
Its very sad that the museum has good artifacts but they management is very bad. It wasnt even opened & you cant even take pictures ☹☹... honestly its a national museum and they should be able to do more
A touch of undiscovered history, creaky floors, amazing photos and diverse range of historical photographs and artifacts. The river sets the scene of as the original entry point into Nigeria.
Totally worth a visit I love the fact that its in one of the colonial building and as such the building is a monument itself. The location as provides a very nice view of the river. Our entrance fee included a guide. The museum has 6 different galleries addressing colonial, old Calabar, palm oil product, road to independence. Its definitely worth visit
National Museum, Calabar is one of the best museums in the southern part of Nigeria. It houses many relics and facts that survived the British colonial and slave trade era. Its a sure place to visit. So, when youre in Cross River State, make it a duty to visit the museum as this adds an icing to your visit and refreshes your historical memory.
Used to be a government house but turned into a museum. Must visit if youbarebin Calabar as a tourist. My most impressive room was the fattening room, before and after pictures were incredible.I think a fee is paid for entrance and cameras and bags are not allowed inside. You can go in with your phone though. You can take pictures outside but not inside. There is a small shop there too where tourists can buy momentos and all that.
It tells an interesting story about Nigeria-with real evidence
Packed full of colonial history and trends in Nigerias political life.
The building was fabricated in the great Britain and was shipped here for assembling..
This museum has lots of history as should be. The guide knows her muesum well and takes us through entertaining and mind bogging details of every artefact. If you are into Nigeria History, slave trade, surving the slave trade period etc..this museum is for you. Unfortunately Im giving you 3 stars since the museum building has been neglected over the years. Its now old and rundown!
Amazing musuem to learn about our history
History is a path to knowledge
Its a nice place to go and refresh your brain because history is important. Take your children and visitor there.
Every black man needs to visit here
Truly a historic place worthy of visit. We enjoyed our trip. It was fun and enlightening too. It was a great historical summary of encounter with the white people in their political, commercial, educational and religious connections.

The first presidential house and also house artwork. Very good for recreational as it have a relaxation center within
This museum holds notable historical facts as well as items of events that took place long ago in Nigeria. It is a place to be.
This is the National Museum located in the very heart of Calabar Municipality in Cross River State of Nigeria. It is just a stone throw from the U J Esuene Stadium. In this museum, you will see a lot of things used during the Colonial government, the advent of slave trade, items used as means of trade and a lot of other things to really arrest your attention. It is indeed a nice place to visit with the family.
There are a lot of historical artefacts though they are not well maintained
A historic building that has old and new artefacts in it.. Its knowledgeable
Our ancient things are kept here safe
Nice history. Had to pay extra to have them turn on the generator as there was no light. The guide was well informed and detailed. And it was a nice experience.
Nice place. Its a historical place to see cross river
Nice place to learn history
The museum is not properly maintained but the artifacts are real and awesome.
Great place to go. The guide is really friendly. They do have quite a number of relics to view. Most items are related to Slave trade but there still are a couple of other things to see. The very building housing the museum is a relic itself that is worth seeing. They dont allow photography inside the museum so I am sorry I dont have good pictures to help but its a good place to visit.
Not so bad. We could do better. Now it doesnt seems to excites tourist.
Need sprucing up and better lighting for the exhibits.
Great place to capture the origin of Calabar civilization. The tour guide was pleasant and professional. Would love to visit again.
It had substantial information about calabar and its enlightening and educative... Its a must visit to know about the history of calabar
Well its nice but they could do better
A place to recall the history of calabar. You can not take pictures here, it is against the rule. Hence, its free for Corps members on uniform. Cheers !
Lots of history is hidden here, and it appears that the keepers dont understand the value of what they are keeping. All the same, its a place to visit if you find yourself in Calabar.
A historic place that tells the story of Nigeria through a good collection of artifacts.
My visit to the museum was in the month of August 2015. I learnt a lot about the history of slave trade in Nigeria, as well as the early exported goods from Calabar sea port. The historic and archaeological artifacts are well preserved for future generations to learn about our pass.
