National Museum in Hinthada

National Museum located in Yangon city. It contains many historical and traditional things of Myanmar. Those who want to know about the history of this country then should visit this place. As far i heard they are going to move it into the capital of Myanmar but still here so it’s possible to visit. Its better to check before going.

Nice, clean but only thing missing is no proper guide

I was there last year people said its closed now as they plan to move it to another place so you need to check about this.But although of this I want to share my experience about this amazing museum as I really enjoyed to be there last year.First you pay as forginer 500k and you have to leave your bag at outside locker and its mandatoryThe museum consist of 5 floors each one has a story and its special and different items.If you want to know about Burma history and traditions and culture this will be the best place ever as almost show every thing you need to know specially its very hard to find someone explain all of this to you as the history of Burma is long and complicated.I took around 1.5 hours to finish my tour and still feeling its not enough.Overall its a great experience and I hope it still open.

Really enjoyed the visit. Its like 3-in-1 national history, natural history and art. Definitely allocate a minimum of 2 or 3 hours.Since its so big, it could benefit of a better guided path/direction so that you explore with a sense of chronology.The cultural and art exhibitions were my favourite.

Foreigners charge 5,000 kyat.The five-storey museum is divided into two parts, namely the Period of Myanmars history and the culture of Myanmar. An extensive and great cross section of Myanmar split across so many levels! I spent several hours strolling through the collection. The building itself needs a great deal of work - many lights were not working and some of the rooms had lost their air conditioning. Overall, a nice way to get a solid understanding of Myanmar’s history and culture

Very deserted museum with limited English translation. Friendly staff and security guards. Decent relics to view.

a museum located in the diplomat zone.also a fantastic place to know about the literature history of Burma. If you want to visit the museum completely，Remember to go there after meal because the museum is so big and if you are hungryyou will find it difficult😂.

Massive museum with so much to see and explore regarding Myanmars long and interesting history. There are 5 floors packed with various exhibits, and the pamphlet they hand out after youve paid your entry fare (which was, I believe, 5000 kyatsexplains exactly what to see on every floor which was very handy. A word to the wise that it closes fairly early most days, so make sure you come early enough to explore it in its entirety - I budgeted only an hour, and that was barely even enough time to speed walk around the entire museum barely actually taking in any of the information. For best results, try to budget 2-3 hours I would say.As others have pointed out, the museum could use a couple renovations (there are lights that are burnt out, the floor is cracking in a ton of places, etc.but I found that its condition was perfectly acceptable to fully enjoy all of the exhibits.

Entrance fee is 500 MMK per local. It is worth to visit. There are 4 floors to see different myanmar culture evolution and history.

A reasonably interesting museum that is in need of a serious renovation. The building outside is ugly as sin. Its more appropriate for a prison than a national museum. The rooms inside are cavernous and dark. The guards insist on making you check everything in a flimsy locker at the door. So its better for you to leave your valuables in the hotels safe. They dont allow you to take pictures with a camera, but they will ignore those who are taking pictures with a phone. So if you have a good phone camera, bring it along.

It s a five story good building. Materials are well displayed. But lighting should improve. It has entry fee of 5000 kyats or $3.5 approx. Closes by 4.30

Great place to understand the history of Myanmar and to know the culture. Strongly recommend to visit.

My sixth visit to Myanmar, yet only my first visit to the National Museum. So glad I came - this is an important Museum, containing priceless treasures from Myanmars past. Its so important that this place is preserved and Myanmars history accurately recorded for posterity. Really worthwhile and highly recommended.

Must visited place for not only Myanmar but also how human being came from. From the primate to modern culture, kings era as well as arts and liturature then soooo many becomes.

Big museum. Some items have English description. Do get the free audio guide and the local onsite guide. Throne is awesome

There are certainly things to be seen here, especially the Lion Throne, some old imperial clothing, and some of the excellent photography of girls in traditional dress.There are some interesting musical instruments and Buddhist art as well.However, the exhibits are poorly displayed and even more poorly lit. They also lack clear explanation, making a guide almost a requirement.A guide will double the cost of the visit (admission currently 10,000Ks per person for foreigners).If you are looking for a good place to spend a couple of hours and you are a fan of culture, you could come here. A huge museum with lots to offer. I hope in the future, they can have more English translations.There is also a fee for foreigners to enter so make sure you bring some money.

A variety of historical facts and figures.Many interesting and rare items are shown room by room along with different categories.You will have to spend at least 3 hours to get in touch with basic of our culture and historical facts via walking 5 level of building.Don´t forget to ask language module at the entrace if you don´t know our language.Leave the bags at the lockers at entrace as you will get busy walking and learning around.Try it.Recommended.

Nice five-level museum of Myanmar that exhibits Myanmar history, art and tradition, religion and culture, ancient tools, alphabet and language, costume, instrument, gallery, decoration and ornament, Burmese people and race, and natural fossil!!! It is very worth to visit this museum.

Its a great introduction to Myanmar culture and history. The best bits are the Royal regalia, throne room and the exhibits on Buddhist art and traditional cultures.

the best museum in YangonDuring our stay in Yangon, we visit many museums, Heres the best one for us.Lot of museum are lack of maintaince or photo forbiddened. National Museums policy is modest.Here displays historial, cutlure and art works. Huge amount of displayed thing will spend you at least 2 hours to go through. Its the best place to understand this nations many part of people.You can hire a tour guide , that will save your time.The cost is 10000 per hour. Maybe you can bargain the price with them.

Interesting museum on the history of Myanmar, its culture and traditions. 5 floors of exhibitions.Cost is 5,000 kyats for foreigners and free for locals.

This is truly the highlight of the visit to Yangon !!! Get the free guide to learn more about the exhibits. The visit takes between two and four hours for a complete viewing of the exhibits. Kelvin was our guide and he was excellent. Give him a handsome tip after the visit if you appreciate his service.

Although Google map said that this facility was opened, but it was not opened. Because today is holiday, namely 1st January. Oh, my gosh. NO WAY!!

Well worth taking the time to visit this national treasure. Full of wonderful art, artifacts with knowledgeable local guide. I dont normally recommend a guide but I was impressed with Ei Khine who was not only knowledgeable but also helpful on other places to visit.

With 5 floors to show from epigraphy, calligraphy, lion throne, natural history, prehistory, myanmar art, crafts, ancient ornaments, buddhist to culture of national races, its really impressing.

+ Stunning ground floor of the original golden Lion throne showroom from Mandalay. Third floor golden jewelry & Forth floor custom was interesting of showing some highlights of the 135 different tribes history and fashion.+ Washroom on every floor. Convenient.- Though not too impressed the young girl guide asking up front for tips if the tour is satisfactory. Reminds of like being in Cuba. Difference being in here she’s polite, friendly & attentive to everyone of our group. Cuba was total opposite. Whole trip in Myanmar has never been asked nor expected tips.- Certain area no photography nor video allowed. Lights at certain floor was quite dim.Entrance Free for locals. 5000 Y for foreigner. Nice staff. English speaking staff available to tour around.

National Museum is located on Pyay Road, Yangon, Myanmar.It is one of the tourist attractions in Yangon. So, dont miss this opportunity when you are in Myanmar.As soon as you enter the museum, you will see the main exhibit Lion Throne which is over 150 years old.As it is 5 storied building, you will see many interesting showrooms including Royal Regalia, Culture and National Races showroom and ASEAN corner.

Best place to visit if you are in Yangon and interested myanmar history,culture,national custom,instrument.You can see so many myanmar historic place like Mandalay Palace,President House in one place.Now you can use audio language about all in museum.

Prepare to slowly spend 2 to 3 hours here, enjoy the exhibits in various spacious large rooms located on 5 floors. Took me about 45 minutes walk through very fast.Very few people on Saturday afternoon, not crowed. K5000 fee is well worth it, cost the museum a lot of money to operate it, not cheap to pay for electricity cost just to run many air conditioners there, unlikely it can make profit due to small number of visitors each day, it must be subsidized by government so it can stay in operation.Tons of real artifacts, there are some replicas, mostly real.This museum is very interesting for people who can spend time slowly enjoy the little details in the exhibits.Can be much better if provide more history information in English.Interested in ancient Burma/Myanmar? This place has plenty to see.

Must visit place in Yangon. Five floors full of Myanmar history. You can see the original lion throne used by Burmese kings. And the royal regalia used by the Burmese kings. If you want to learn about Burmese history, culture and people , this is a place to go.

I just made a rare visit to this museum for seeing the Art Exhibition commenmorated for 70th Myanmar-Thai Diplomatic Relationship.Before exiting from museum, I found some books displayed on the ground floor. I checked all books & found a book I like to buy. So, I asked a person @ enquiry desk to show this book. He replied to go & ask in library.Then, I re-entered to reach library @ 1st floor & aked a person @ front desk. She replied to go to 3rd floor to buy this book.HOW SO DIFFICULT TO BUY A BOOK @ NATIONAL MUSEUM & LIBRARY IN YANGON?

Spent 3 hours here on a Saturday afternoon. Spread over 4 floors. Some rooms you cant take pictures. Good insight into the heritage and culture of some of the different ethnic tribes. Reasonably priced for what you get. Offered free guide on entry. We declined, maybe should have accepted? Probably rushed a bit at the end as became tired, its so big. Some displays impressive, some not.I would advise this, but as in many museums, its a lot to cover in one visit.

Good place for seeking the history of Myanmar. There are a lot of interesting stuffs in the whole building. Each floor will be part of Myanmar historic life time. You can take a photo with smart phone in some rooms and the others not permitted. You have to keep your stuff in the locker, can take only smartphone and wallet. If you come here, dont miss.

Located on Pyay Road the National Museum is certainly a must see for the curious and inquisitive visitor. With an entrance fee of MMK 5,000 for foreigners (and free for localsyou can expect to be impressed by the great array of relics on display here.There are lockers located at the entrance to the Museum and all bags must be secured in the locker before entering the building. It is guarded over by a police officer and is secure.The Museum is located across several floors and each is themed differently to the history of the monarchs as well as the natural history museum which includes displays of fossils.Just 2 points of observation: firstly, the lighting in the Museum could be much better and it is no exaggeration to say that while some areas are very dim others are quite literally without any light.Also, it would be a great addition if there are guided tours available. However, even without a guided tour I was nonetheless very impressed.

I thought the museum is well curated and has rightfully earned the distinction of being the countrys premiere museum. The diverse collection is spread across five floors and consists of about 5,000 permanent objects, truly a grand showcase of the countrys cultural and natural history. The volume of exhibits can be quite overwhelming so pace yourself. Id say at least three hours is necessary to see the museum at a comfortable pace.I particularly enjoyed the exhibits on Myanmar calligraphy and music traditions, the majestic and imposing Lion Throne, and the special section on the countrys ASEAN neighbors.Cameras are not allowed. You will be asked to store them in the lockers, which you can use free of charge. Smartphones with cameras are okay but flash photography and selfies are prohibited. In addition, pictures are only allowed in some of the exhibition rooms.Like most reviewers have pointed out, lighting and temperature control in the museum can definitely be improved for the convenience of visitors.

Really enjoyed this museum. Despite the basic descriptions in English, a wide variety of interesting artefacts. Reminded me of Game of Thrones (fans will see why!)... Wasnt entirely clear where you can take photos and where you cannot as had contradictory info from different staff.

Perfect place to spend time and discover the history of Burmese. In front of the Museum, you can also find a lovely coffee shop with good meal

Very interesting place for local and international visitor. To enjoy their wonderful display, 2 to 3 hours are needed. Entrance fee are 500 MMK for local and 5000 MMK 5 USD for foreigner. Guides are available.

Very interesting and expansive 5 floors of the entire history of Myanmar/Burma. It is well worth the 5000 kyats to visit. Sadly you cant take cameras in but I did notice lots of people using their phones in certain parts of the museum. The musical instrument exhibit was my personal favourite.

There is quite a bit to see in the museum but not always well labelled. There are volunteer guides in the museum though and I would highly suggest you try to have them show you around. It takes a fair amount of time when you have this person explaining everything but otherwise I am not sure I would have appreciated the place. Also they dont ask for tips or money (tried to give mine money but she said no).

A very large and austere building with minimal exhibits, given the vast area.A few interesting items but consolidation would allow for at least two of the five floors to be closed.Appalling lighting and climate control.If you do go, make sure you take up the opportunity of a volunteer guide, who are preparing for the onerous national guide course/license. 4 floors all full of a lot of history & items to look at. Not a whole lot of information or explanations in English. The cultural artwork was interesting. For 5000 Kyat Id say its alright.

Must see museum in Yangon. 5,000 kyat entry per adult is a small price to pay for the 4 floors to check out Myanmars rich history. Dont expect this place to be the louvre - most rooms can have better lighting but for a developing country with frequent power cuts the museum offers an air conditioned escape from the hustle and bustle of Yangon city. You can get an audio guide from the ticket counter which would be useful to guide you through all the various rooms. Note its closed on Mondays
