Casual eatery in a former bank building serving American fare amid quiz nights & other events.
Super friendly. Super fast food prep. Super reggae.
Beautiful decor, great staff and scrumptious food accompanied by good beer (but not as good as the beer we have in Canada 🇨🇦😝)Definitely recommended if you’re visiting Philly centre city and maybe paying a visit to the Independence Hall or The Old City.
The entrance presentation is amazing the steps, the pillars, the marble is all gorgeous! The inside is nice and dark and has great tavern vibes. The bartenders were very attentive and kind. The negatives I would have to say is if they don’t place a sign on the sidewalk it’d be easy to walk past and not even know a bar was there. The name “National Mechanics” as awesome as it is doesn’t make you think it’s a bar/restaurant if you’re just reading the name. Overall 25/30
Food was fantastic! I had the smash burger and it was the best burger I’ve had in a long time! We also had the nachos and they were a very large portion and very good.
The atmosphere was incredible. The food was fantastic (highly recommend the Porchetta sandwhich)sandwich. And the service was THE BEST. Will definitely be back every time Im in Philly.
National Mechanics is a totally approachable bar with exceptional bar fare in a cool old building!Weve been going to NM for years & they manage to stay on top of their game with simply prepared favorites- best dang burgers (the veggie 😋 or beef!), finger licking wings, fried chicken baskets with house- cut fries........ the grilled cheese & tomato soup is as satisfying as a hug.I dont drink beer, but they have a nice selection & the seasonal house cocktail is always on point. We love the build your own bloody Mary bar available for brunch on the weekends, too.We cant recommend this OG enough and suggest that you head over there for the 1/2 price selection of wines on Monday nights!
Great food, decent prices for happy hour and really friendly staff.5/5
Food was amazing. I had the smash burger and we shared the wings. Sauces were so good. Great atmosphere and I love the decor! Friendly bartenders
Have been here before and I enjoyed a lot more. This time it was a let down- service and food
It was a really good experience. The atmosphere was great for a Monday night. The staff were really friendly. Good choice of draught beers including Stella and Guinness. Food is superb for pub grub. Music excellent. Bar is an old bank with church furniture, to add to the quirky ness. Recommended.
Great spot for brunch. Delicious and quick food (French toast and egg breakfastin a cool building.
Very underwhelmed. The bartender did not even know the HH specials. Veggie sliders were more like a veggie crumble. The burgers just did not hold together.
Nice atmosphere and fairly good service in my experience. Stopped in for some cold beers. Nice to check out when in the historic area.
Great food, nice place. Price is good(mac&cheese=14$). Good service
Great customer service, vintage feel of the place a must sit and dine.
I needed a pretzel from Philly, and this was a good place to get it. Youll love the name, and if the other reviews didnt spoil it, you wont get a spoiler from me.Their wings were great, too, and the service was awesome. The bathrooms are super cool, and I appreciate how they label the doors.
Good atmosphere and great happy hour beer prices. Good beer selection. Soupy Mac n cheese.
Amazing service in a cool location of an old church. Food tastes clean & the drinks are great. Highly recommend the citrus mule & the BALT. Def a must if visiting Philly. Staff is super friendly & super accommodating to customers needs.
Good choices of beers! 🍺🍺🍺
Greatest bar in Philly beatiful and elegance. Great prices. Great time I had here
We visited this place randomly for a birthday brunch and was Blown away! The food was amazing! Everyone cleaned their plates. Drinks are on point and our bartender Wes was excellent! Made our girls trip from Maryland worth it!!
Part of a group of 11 on a Friday night with reservations for drinks/dinner. Greeted, seated & drinks with appetizer orders taken promptly. Then . . . 1 of 3 Bavarian pretzels burned to inedible. Getting re-fills for drinks was a challenge & it took multiple requests for a water. Food came out in good order & was tasty. Sound system was at a level that was great for dancing but way too high for conversation. Approximately 3/4 full whole time we were there. All in all, average.
Came here for brunch with the girls & had a great time. Get the bloody Mary’s they were excellent!
Great vibes, good food and beer selection, and felt very welcomed! Visiting from out town and Im glad I stopped by. Shout out to Brit for being awesome
Plantain chips and guac are great. Stopped in on a Wednesday with no idea that it was Trivia night. Made a mistake by not participating. One of the least pretentious and most entertaining trivia nights I have ever witnessed.
I made a reservation, Confirmed the reservation, and came 5 minutes early. National mechanics decided to cancel my reservation and not give me a table, honestly the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever dealt with in any restaurant. I can’t say I’ll ever go back.Response to Owner- I never cancelled it as i showed you on the app, I also never raised my voice. You refused to accept my reservation
Great atmosphere! Their French onion soup is absolutely delicious, as the gigantic pretzel and the cheese sauce it comes with! Great selection of bears and cocktails! We are happy we found this place, thank you!
This bar has awesome food and a very inviting atmosphere. Super chill and large capacity for all my friends! Staff and security are very nice.
Gonna be honest with you. I emailed the event coordinator to see if they could accommodate a party of 25-30. After her asking a bunch of questions, she never responded back to my email (a bit unprofessional). Went in to check out how much space was there after they denied serving our group showing up since she never replied to my email (there was plenty of space after inspection and the place remained fairly empty)Apparently they dont want our money. Our group is fully vaxxed, masked and respectful of other peoples spaces
I love National Mechanics! I highly recommend the Giant Bavarian Pretzel (make sure to dip in the cheese while its still warmand their amazing Veggie Burger (I love it with bacon and/or avocado). You can find me at National every Wednesday night starting in February 2022 for a new bar competition.
Really enjoyed our meal & drinks here this past Monday night. Bartender was awesome. Loved the unique pint glasses.
The national spot of good drinks, food and spirit. Good and grand service. Corey is a fantastic bartender. Try the baby yoda drink!!Daily events, world renowned karaoke and classic drink spot. Food is amazing, I mean really amazing! Veggie burger blows the impossible burger out of the water. Epic nachos and perfect fish and chips.
Great service and really tasty food! Fantastic selection of beer.
Best ribeye Philly cheese steak ever!!! Loved our service! Loved the decor! Loved the columns, the stained glass, and the awesome table tops!
Engaging bartenders, attentive service and comfortsble environs. Perfect for a solo or group stop. Love the exposed brick & artistic architectural details and groovy bathrooms. Just the right amount of grit".
A nice little spot and always good to retain the older buildings. The atmosphere is good as a converted old bank. Id like to know more of where the vault was, etc.
Really cool spot. Who wouldve thought to turn an old bank into an eatery. These folks, thats who. Brilliant..Brilliant. service was great. The night we came there was karaoke going on and that was awesome as well. Great prices for being in Old City area. We had a great time. The food was good. Our server was awesome. One of the guys is a ghost & spirits guy so he kept asking her about anything strange or did she think there was ghost in here. She was too funny. Just going along with it. I knew she thought he or us was crazy!
Definitely will be coming back...came here before but a few years ago. Great food & service, thank you RJ for your great hospitality! Drinks also were good 😁😁
Been here a few times. Always very attentive staff. Good beer menu, and quality food. Had the crispy fish tacos (on a staff recommendationwith a side of Mac and cheese. Very tasty!
The best meal I have had in a long, long time - seriously. Every single thing we got at this restaurant was unbelievably good, great price for high quality food, great service, and really fun atmosphere!! Fun drink menu also! The best cheesesteak, creme brulee, and (it has to be homemadepretzel with cheese sauce and home made mustard that we have ever had. Certain everything we tried was home made, even the coffee was really good. Waitress was excellent, helped us without us having to ask, brewed fresh coffee without us having to ask. All of the staff helps each other, so there is no lag time when asking for a drink or getting food out. Have not been overly content with a restaurant in a long time, but this place has it!
Super friendly staff, well laid out menu with up front pricing. A very enjoyable atmosphere to enjoy a house made veggie burger. I will always return for more.
Service and food were both great! The atmosphere is really nice and doesnt get too loud even with a full house. Chocolate cake is amazing
Good bar food and cold beers. But the real success of National Mechanics is the staff and atmosphere. Interesting, accommodating, occasionally sassy and always friendly, the staff reflects the atmosphere of this Old City hidden treasure.Built in the hulk which was formerly National Mechanics Bank and later revived as the legendary ‘80s night club “The Bank”, it’s atmosphere is reflective of its past.Stop in for lunch or dinner for a level headed encounter with the eclectic. Drop in at night and brave the real fun!TheBillo313
We sat at the bar so cant speak to the full food menu. The fries and onion rings were really fine! Good beer selection. The atmosphere and decor is great, very creative.
I stop by here all the time! Really love National Mechanics. It has a really warm and friendly environment, not to mention awesome staff! This picture is from the last time I was there for Brunch. They have a fantastic make your own Bloody Mary bar, and the food is always great!Ill continue to regularly visit and meet up with friends here when Im in Old City.
Relaxed, beating music and warm lighting make up an intimate space that also includes community seating. Cocktails are well crafted, and food is good. Service is fast and friendly.
Great food and service. The veggie burger is packed with shredded carrots, zucchini, and broccoli. Soft Bavarian pretzel for brunch
Food is good and a lot of decent beer selections. Seating can be a wait but usually quick unless you have a larger group. Drinks came fast and food was ordered quick but delivery was s-l-o-w. When finally delivered two of the meals ordered well done had to be sent back because they were red in the middle. I was left with the impression that meals were delayed as long as we were still ordering drinks then done quickly as drinks tapered off. Maybe not, especially if crowds are waiting but while we were there there was no rush. It is historic (in an old bankand very close and convenient to Independence Hall and the Museum of the American Revolution. Is 3-1/2 stars but could not select. Would be five stars if service was faster/better.
I’ve been patronizing National Mechanics for years, and every single time I have been very pleased with the food, the drinks, and the service. My order most often depends on my craving, though I am particularly fond of the burgers and fries (regular and sweet potatoand drink-wise, the Fruli strawberry beer and Strongbow draft cider. In the way of desserts, they have the most amazing rich chocolate cake that is enough to satisfy the most dangerous sweet tooth, which I just so happen to possess. On a more recent visit, I opted for the grilled lamb lollipop chops (served with mashed potatoes), and I savored every bite! Whether I come alone, with friends, or for a performance, National Mechanics will always be one of my top favorite restaurants in Old City!
Great for dancing and drinks.I wish they changed their special drinks a little more often, however.I wasnt thrilled by their strawberry daiquiri, though. I tried both the one theyd had on tap and one made individually and neither were what I was expecting. Aside from that, their food was okay, but my friends and I were not satisfied with the servings and ended up eating elsewhere immediately afterwards.
