Museum housing paintings by modern & contemporary Indian artists, plus a cafe & an auditorium.
Nice place, very interesting style of galleries, renovated in a outstanding manner. Worth the visit.
Starts at 11am, you can buy tickets at the entry gate. Free for students below 18years. ₹20 for visitors and ₹500 for foreigners. You will get lockers to keep your belongings and at the entry you will get to see the wooden carved jewellery boxes which are amazing and all the painting at the start are real.As you move further you will get to see different paintings and sculptures. The mirror Lake, no one notices it as it is not maintained. And the copper car which i liked the most there.Staff is very nice and polite. You cannot take photos at first two halls as the painting and jewellery boxes are real and well preserved. And the canteen inside is very good. The taste is also better.Overall the place is good, calm and peaceful maintained.
Its a great experience seeing the art of all the artist. All the sculptures, paintings, installations are amazing. If you are a art student or create something this will really inspire you. No photography is allowed with DSLR.
Very interesting place filled with a lot of spectacular pieces. You can spend your entire day here staring at artwork. This museum inspired me to start painting again. A must-visit when youre in Bengaluru!
Amazing place to have a peaceful weekend. Been here twice and will definitely visit again. They in fact change the artworks after a while so you wont get bored if you visit again. Highly recommended. The ambience in the cafeteria is better than most restaurants.
NGMA Bengaluru is nice place to visit if you have interest in modern indian arts . It has galleries for celebrated artists like Yusuf arrakal and Anila jacob. For indian nationals, the ticket price is only 20rs which is quite affordable. The place gives calm and elegant vibes. One annoying thing was that guards and caretakers were trying to follow you everywhere constantly looking at your actions. It was maybe to restrict people from touching objects and shooting videos but still it was quite awkward. Wish they trust visitors a little more! Overall enjoyed my visit there.
Nice place to focus your mind Even watching a Art 🎭🎨 is a Art , place is well maintained after Sunday brunch best place to walk around and perceive art
The gallery is very nice.We been here 3 years ago, come again and love it again! They have nun-fair price for foreigners...Locals pay 40 inr and foreigners pay 500 inr!!!The art is great.
Good place. Well managed the Gallery, Library & Cafeteria was very good.Washrooms need to be cleaned & improved considerably for visitors use. Otherwise Perfect.
Ambience around the gallery is very relaxing and one could spend hours there sipping a hot coffee. As to the gallery itself it is nicely set with beautiful paintings. Also one can buy prints of great artists.
Loved the place.. Maintenance was top notch.. paintings were very good n it is like least explored place in Bangalore..
I would recommend this place to any art lover, well maintained place and nominal ticket price.Place is well maintained and has ample parking available for both two wheeler and four wheeler. It would be great if there is any guided tour provided by authorities.
Very aesthetic place. Entry fee is just 20 bucks. I felt the collection was very small. But its a fun place to visit with friends. Do not forget to visit the library too.
It now has a new cafe with good food....Easily one can spend half a day in this place.Plenty of parking, good loos and the art gallery keeps changing the paintings often.
Interesting gallery with excellent textiles and small paintings. Garden and shop is also good. But like many galleries here foreigners are charged a ridiculous fee and you feel like it’s a money grab. Please adjust the entrance fee.
One of the most aesthetic places to visit in Bangalore. This museum houses many beautiful art works and traditional weaves. The place has a sense of calmness to it owing to the lush greenery surrounding it. It takes about an hour to look around the entire museum and the entry costs Rs. 20 for Indian citizens.
Such a calm and beautifully maintained place ! Huge space ! Ticket is just for Rs.10 . Exhibits collection in the best way possible !
Worth a visit if you have interest in art or an artist.. Very well. Maintained and also have small cafeteria space and also a library.Has good parking space and very serene and quiet place.. You can buy tickets on the entrance.
Most arrogant people on earth Ive seen. Only one gallery is open rest all galleries are in maintenance and they have the audacity to sell tickets! Substandard food served at high prices in the so called cafeteria. They should close if they are under maintenance. I lost one day fighting in traffic 90 mins to reach here. The worst time wasting Ive done in my life.A foreign couple paid 1000 rs. They were stunned to see only one gallery with 3 piece of cloth was the only thing there to see. They were robbed by the government in day light literally!
A wonderful experience. The art gallery is housed In an old restored building ,high gabels with marvelous architecture. Best for day long weekend visits.
A beautiful place where Maharatis paintings and other artefacts have been show cased in a pretty old building but well maintained. The whole place is spread over acres of land and the building is in the centre and surrounded by lush green trees and plants and lawns with stone carvings kept to enhance the beauty of the place. Tickets for Indian Nationals is Rs 20 whereas it is Rs 500 for foreign nationals. There are four galleries spread over ground floor and first floor. Lighting is good and the cool AC keeps the people pleasant. Maharatis personal belongings are also kept there. One can take individual photos of the exhibited pics but no videos are allowed and no combined photo of the displayed pics is allowed. Guards are there in each floor to guide and check people coming to watch the paintings. It takes one hour to see everything in detail. Each pic is explained. Covid19 protocol strictly followed. Temperature is checked and sanitizer kept in handy. Its located on palace road 🛣️ and theres ample place for parking. Wheelchair access to ground floor is there but not to the first floor. The greenery adds beauty to the whole place. Police too are placed to monitor nothing untoward happens. The paintings are more than 5 to 7 decades old and have been preserved extremely well. In one portion the painting was left out perhaps. All important personality have been painted. Worth the money for painters especially.
I really love the architecture. But i think the staff could be a little more sweet as they could just hover around you to not take personal pictures of yourself. I also think they could be a little more descriptive about the art.
Only good for those who have interest in art, painting, crafts etc. Not that great place. Quite boring. Not so photogenic place. They will not allow you to take photos inside that. Natural and peaceful place. For 2 hours you will forget that you are in middle of banglore city. Nothing national is there, it feels like personal museum of Shaswat Maharathi.
Although not as huge and amazing as the NGMA of Delhi, this tiny place has its own charm, telling the story of art and weaves in the history of India. Loved the tana bana installation that runs throughout the building. The insights into the life of Upendra Maharathi was inspiring. Loved every moment of the visit. The best part was that they had students discount as well, and you could buy prints of your favourite artists from the souvenir shop.
Good calm place to go. Entry fee is 20 Rupees.
The National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru was set up in the premises of the Manikyavelu Mansion at 49 Palace Road, Bangalore and opened to the public on 18th February, 2009. Spread over an area of 3.5 acres, the gracious heritage building was transformed from a residence into an Art Gallery, with a display space of 1551 square meters to which a new gallery block with a display space of 1260 sq. m. was added. The architecture of the additional block was designed in such a fashion that it merges with the style and ambience of the heritage Manikyavelu Mansion while at the same time fulfilling the requirements of a modern museum.
One of its kind experience in bangalore. One must visit if an eye for some amount of art work.
Well catalogued work of the artist on display, you can sure find an art piece you can resonate with
As an art lover, this place was magical. The paintings, the posters, the stone structures, all of it makes it beautiful. You can also buy posters, cards and tiny magnet art too from the gallery
A nice place to hang around. A bunch of us met here and did some art in the cafeteria for half of the day. The exhibitions here are classy and well done.
Well the building itself is an amazing collection. The art is worth taking your time off to gawk about good.
Very inspiring! The gallery is mainly based on works of Upendra Maharathi. The arts show clear depiction of his times, Buddhism influence on him, etc
Elegant, well maintained old building; Well presented exhibits; pleasant and helpful staff. Depending interest, of course, can spend a couple of hours enjoyably. Worth a visit. Includes a nice shop and a public library Cafeteria closed since 2nd wave of COVID.
Very beautiful place, We were taken here as a site visit from Gopalan school of architecture, lot of tree ,fountains, they also have a inside parking space ,it would take max 2 hour to go around the museum. Photography is prohibited but you can carry your sketchbook inside to sketch the surroundings, it has some good open spaces where you can spend some time with friends, overall very good place, must visit
Beautiful place, the ticket for only the gallery is 20 Rs. It will take you an average of 1 and a half hour to finish touring the museum. Photography is not allowed inside but other than its really good and a place you should definitely visit if you like art.
Actual gallery is closed currently. The shop on the ground floor, right opposite to the entrance gate has some interesting art available for sale at nominal prices. The eating area next to it also works like a co-working space, though you will need to bring your own food since the cafe is closed. Library on the first floor is well stocked with art related books. Do check out the books related to Raja Ravi Varma. The sculpture garden opposite the gallery is great for a calming walk. Parking area is sufficient for both cars and scooters. Absolutely free to visit and spend time here on Saturday/Sunday. Bring along food, water and your laptop for a productive day!
Pick a book, buy some coffee and spend time at NGMA. No better way to spend a Sunday. The heritage building houses some rare art collection. The library has a very good collection of books on art, photography.Lots of green space, huge trees, a nice water body overlooking the old building.Must visit.
Forever in love with this place. Right from the entrance, the unbelievably beautiful canopy, the grand architecture of the main building, and of course the art. The entire campus has a beautiful atmosphere and there is silence in the middle of Bangalore noise. Just to sit at the café, sipping hit chai in a kulhad, its serene.
Amazing place. Amazing paintings. Loved the building architecture. Must visit. Staff of the Gallery extremely polite. There is a small restaurant serves great chai too. Simple food, reasonable.Parking available.Photography is prohibited with in / inside the gallery. Outside is ok.
#Incredible India #अतुल्यभारतThis place is incredibly amazing and peaceful, just you have to devote yourself to get the placid vibes. Well art is present both inside as well as outside of the complex. Artwork of the great painters like Sanjitha Shankar, Amrita Shergill, MF Hussain, Jaya Ganguly, Thomas Danielle etc are preserved and showcased beautifully. Many of the paintings are timeless. The gallery is surrounded by plush green gardens and sculptures. A cafeteria is also available inside the NGMA which is like an icing on the cake. The architecture of the building is also really nice, all the rooms have got good amount of natural light with high wooden ceilings. The security guards will hover around you every second as you step inside the gallery to stop people from clicking pictures. The environment is so peaceful that one can spend hours sitting here & have some good chit-chat with family & friends. Restroom is available. Gardens are also maintained quite well, hats off to the landscaping team. There is an inhouse gallery store to buy memorabilia and the prices of the articles are also nominal. Entry fee is Rupee 20. Parking space is also quite good for both 2 & 4 wheelers.Outside pictures attached as inside photography is not allowed and is offensive.
Parking for about 15 cars available and is mostly not filled. Loos are clean. Guards are polite but watchful. The cafeteria has a very small menu, a few baked items and some cakes. The gift shop is not well stocked. There are two wings, modern and old. Both have a fairly limited collection of art. The art is by a limited set of Indian artists and is not very exhaustive by geography or cultures. The mansion which houses the gallery is the best part about the gallery - it has a small garden, a small fountain which isnt functional, one really really large tree and some "modern" sculptures. May be the artistically inclined will feel happy to visit. However, in comparison to renowned art galleries across the world it is a let down. For people from Bengaluru this is a worthwhile place to spend an evening. Entry is reasonable for Indian citizen but is steep for foreigners. I left with the feeling that it was way short of the expectation from an art gallery.
You are welcomed by a beautiful environment where greenery takes centre stage. A basic entry fee of Rs. 20/- is charged per head. Free lockers are provided where you can store your belongings. Youre greeted by the most humble security guards youll probably meet anywhere who direct you to the various sections of the gallery. Coming to the arts on display, I couldnt appreciate them enough cause of my lack of knowledge on the same. However, people who are well-versed in art would surely appreciate who beautiful they are and the stories behind them. You go on a journey around the entire building which roughly takes around 1-2 hours for an average layman like me. People who are into art can spend the entire day perhaps. Youre restricted from photography inside the halls where the art is on display. However, you can beautiful photos of the photogenic surroundings, some of which are attached here. And mind you, the surroundings are beautiful and incredibly well maintained which gives the feeling of being at an international art gallery. The food available at the cafeteria is of good quality and can spend far more time just gorging on them and taking in the landscape around you. Washrooms are well maintained too.
I loved this place, really much. Getting into the gallery made me feel like traveling across different eras. I was lucky to see many prestigious art works by great artists. The place is well maintained and holds many famous works. I saw there many works which I have only read about. You can spend half a day there admiring those classic works. I would visit their again and I am sure I will be more excited than before.
Was here on Sunday. Entry is 20 for Indian and 500 for foreigners. There are different kinds of paintings and art work, some too modern. Overall different kind of experience. Tried brownie sundae at cafe, taste was decent
If you are looking for quaint modern and contemporary art and sculpture museum as I like National gallery of modern art is not to be missed. Set up in 1954 by our 1st President Late Dr Radhakrishnan the museum also boasts of a library, auditorium, a small outdoor pool, lawn and a cosy cafe. Museum timings are from 11 am to 6:30 pm Tue to Sun, Mon closed. There are sculptures and installations in the museum lawn lined up with banyan and rubber trees. The museum houses paintings of M f Husssain, S H Raza, Manjit Bawa apart from Bengal school renowned ones as Haren Das, Jamini Roy, Nandalal Bose, Abanindranath Tagore, Anjolie Ela and sculptures of Ramkinkar Baij
An Amazing home for arts. Not only the collection but the place also invokes great artistic spirit amongst the young n old. Its a nice n quiet place to be in spending a few hours reflecting on different perspectives. 👌👍
An excellent place to absorb the fresh air of art. The ambience is so good and it is very well maintained. I went to attend S.G.Vasudevs exhibition The return to Sama. The place can make you forget the outside world and breath art.
The collection of artworks here is so unique that resemble its name "Modern Art Gallery".This place is well maintained in terms of green and calm all around and secured as well. You can see wide range of paintings, art works and much more. The interesting thing here is at ticket counter you will see different colors of buttons where you need to choose the one that suits you and drop it in the jar. This is used for data analysis.Photography is not allowed inside but you can click outside. Here you can also find a cafe which serves food as well and store which has books, magazines and other art works for sale. The staff here will guide you so politely.
Hands down one of the most important places for the art scene in the city and is located in an old colonial mansion in a rather posh locality in the city, a heaven for art lovers and critics alike, the place has a library, a cafeteria and ofcourse two block of galleries the old and the new block. However heads up! the security seems rather prying gives a wierd look at the people who come there especially the women.! Personally I found it rather disgusting! Be aware of the stare !
Its a nice place if you have interest in arts. This Place is clean and quiet. But expected much more art works. As it has a small gallery of arts so improvement on collection must be needed and it has entry fees of 20 rupees only. It will be better if theres more collection added. Generally 30-40 minutes you need to visit the gallery. It has a cafeteria along with little shop.
