National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre - Opera house in Horad Zhodzina, Belarus
Amazing building and gardens. A lovely family.trip to this beautiful city, we enjoyed every minute of this visit. We stayed at a lovely villa in the.countryside outside Minsk, people are friendly, food is different to what weare used to but a lovely experience.
Gorgeous on the inside. Great place to take pictures with friends. Afternoon shows are cheaper if youre on a budget.
Such a wonderful experience!! The Bolshoj theatre in Minsk looked amazing: such an iconic soviet style building and the interior!! Very clean and well looked after inside out, the staff was very pleasant but firm about some rules: we were given a drinking glass when bought a bottle of water at the theatre coffee shop but we weren’t allowed to take in therefore we were “told off”. We understood that rules are rules. Nevertheless it didn’t ruin our wonderful experience, thank you :)
The employees are typical rude Belarusians that make up their own rules and try to tell you what to do. We were allowed to buy tickets in the theatre without a mask. We were allowed to buy refreshments without a mask, but in order to enter the seating area all of the sudden we must wear masks, only to find our seats and look around at several employees not wearing masks. How can you sell someone a ticket to enter and then force a specific dress code on them after they enter, while not following the same dress code yourself? This is an embarrassment to an otherwise wonderful country and culture.
I like opera, theres a great performance from talented artists, the tickets arent that pricey, and the overall look it beautiful
Great place. We have visited in Sunday and in off-days it is possible see couple plays instead of one because starts earlier.
Went to see "The Grey Legend" with my wife. Was surprised that there were subtitles in Russian and English, which was absolutely fabulous. Im no theater/opera expert, but this was the first time Ive see light projections during a play- awesome. The acting and singing was superb. After the performance ovations took about 5 to 7 minutes. Everybody loved it, so did I.
I was lucky Carmina Burana was on during my visit. That was gorgeous 👏👏👏
Looks nice and fresh after the reconstruction, not that spacious as before but more cosy. The sound is clear. The staff is responsive enough. With the snow the park around is magic. Highly recommended overall.
A lovely piece of Soviet architecture kept to a very high standard. The cafes are disappointing but everything else is splendid
Awesome Vibes, Magnificent Interior. I went to watch the "Swan Lake" and it was a great experience.
Beautiful building!!! Looks like a palace on the inside. There is available food and not too expensive. The shows are also amazing. Nothing bad to say about this place. Just beautiful.
Beautiful Russian architecture in the middle of Minsk. I only got the opportunity to visit the exterior of this Opera because they were on holiday when I visited Minsk. I would love to see a Ballet one day at this theater. There is also a beautiful fountain outside of this theater!
Extraordinary opera house. Professional artists abd plays and at a reasonable price. If you are in Minsk, definitely worth visiting, you wont regret.
Wonderful place. Beautiful building outside and inside. And buffets where you can drink champagne or cognac - also nice 😉I prefer ballet - always inspiring, uplifting. Watched Nutcracker before new year - that was magical.
I visited this theatre today to purchase tickets for a ballet later in the week. I don’t speak Belarusian, the lady at the ticket office didn’t speak English and our interaction couldn’t have been better. She was lovely and very helpful. It’s a gorgeous and very large theatre. I’m excited to come back and watch a performance.
Amazing experiance from an American who fell in love with a Belarusian woman!
Solo parts were maybe not that bright, but choir very good. Macbeth I saw. Armenian brandy during the intermissions fitted there well
Majestic place for theater and Ballet. Highely recomended.Top notch theater and Ballet at its finist.Last night finished watching the superb Swan Lake (Лебединое озеро)Ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky❤️Belarus has a cultural winner 🥇Five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🥂🎉💃🕺🎶 🎭 🎭 🎭 🎭 🎵🎵🍷🍾🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇Attended numerous theater events and3 New year ball Jan 13th Fantastic productions. 💖💖💖💖💖
This is the place that you must go if you travel in Minsk. Awesome architecture both inside and outside with European cultural and luxury style. "Swan Lake" show was great and impressive.
Impressive architecture, luxurious interior at all three upper floors, friendly staff, professional actors (national and foreign starsand orchestra make you feel comfortable and ready to enjoy the performance: either opera or ballet or both, the repertoire is quite extensive. I liked their Carmen, the Magic Flute, Macbeth operas. The theatre has also become more friendly to foreign English-speaking visitors recently.
Opera and balet theater in Minsk, Belarus is amazing place to visit.
After a restoration this theatre became a really great sight. It has unique exterior, created by prominent belarussian soviet arcitectures in 30. Its one of a few buildings, which where not destroyed in Minsk in a period of WW2. Finally, its interior is amazing, with fine light atmosphere in it. Only the best belarussian and foreign artists perform here nowadays.
Nice theater with good parking. We saw Spartacus performed by the Bolshoi which was interesting rather than great in that they are trying to modernize by way of Alvin Ailey but its only partially successful and they have neither the dancers nor the costumes nor the set design to do it. However the music and its performance were extraordinary.
The Bolshoi theatre and ballet is established in 1933 on the Trinity Hills. Just opposite of the Holy Spirit Cathedral this beautiful edifice designed by a Belarusian architect stands as a monument of the rich culture of Minsk and the whole of Belarus. The spacious theatre was inaugurated by the first play of Swan Lake Ballet. The beautiful ambience and the musical and dancing fountain has a captivating and mesmerising effect on the visitor.
This opera and ballet Theatre is really great. The play was fantastic
One of the best pieces of stalinist architecture out there
The structure is imposing with the stucco work and the statues . The surrounding parks are breathtaking with fresh air pumped in your lungs . The birds chirping and the faint sunrays coming through the canopy make for an exhilarating sight . In fact I spent my last evening in Minsk here itself .
This opera house is not only beautiful but also very elegant in its own unique way. The shows are priced exactly right, you definitely get what you pay for. I definitely recommend this place for those who are seeking a nice evening out and afterwards dinner at a nice restaurant.
The national academic Bolshoi opera and ballet theatre of the Republic of Belarus under the ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus is an historical edifice of the defunct USSR. Though touched by the civil war, the originality is maintained till today. The theatre today staged a life act of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare in Choreographic form featuring Acts 1 to 3. The theatre is the best of its kind globally.
Costume and stage design were beautiful. For balcony seats it was a pretty good view. The main dancers were very good.
It was simply great! We had seats in the balcony zone, but the view was nice, the seats themselves were comfortable. The performance, and we attended a ballet performance, was fantastic, with bright costumes and good choreography.
Good acoustic, very good repertuar, good singers. BUT! The local public is awful - they talk during performance, simple dress code is not respected and they come into the houle very late - after the third bell (and staff let them come - what is unexepteble!).
Very small [in its sizes - both inside and outside] for such a significant and culturally important place. But there are very beautiful interiors and facade. It is also the single opera&ballet theatre in Belarus...
Amazing show and amazing place. Worth the visit if you come to minsk. Got the tickets by local friend. People speak English in the opera anyways
Very nice interior. Fantastic performance of Swan Lake december 2018. Would go again.
The one Opera Theater in Belarus. Free parking, exibitions inside. Excellent repertoire
In my opinion, this is the best theatre in Minsk. It has special interior through which you could involve more deeply in atmosphere of play. I went for opera "Evgeniy Onegin".
A wonderful experience, I saw both the ballet and the opera. Very high quality production for a low cost. The architecture is also a gem.
Everything about it is awesome. Music, dancers is nothing but a miracle. Well, maybe their bathroom could have less smell and lines, but hey, I go there for different reasons so its all worth it. They do have free parking there and the location is very convenient.
its amazing and very beautiful place which was built in Soviet time and is an architectural monument of national importance now! If you visit Minsk for the first time you should see this building and a park with a fountain that surrounds it.But one bad moment: the acoustics deteriorated badly after the last reconstruction. And acoustics for a given building are more important than appearance.
An incredible place to enjoy classical performances including operas and ballets. The building is impressive inside and the area outside looks gorgeous from late spring to early autumn. Among downsides there is lack of car parking space. Unless you arrive 40 minutes beforehand there is no chance to park your vehicle close to the theatre building.
One of the nicest theaters in the country! Big, posh, spacious. Well-known operas and ballets are being performed here. And you can buy tickets for quite a reasonable price online. They have a LED display which shows lyrics of an opera being performed. Definitely worth a visit!
Marvelous experience of watching Swan Lake by Tchaikovski! Fantastic performance! Recommend to everyone. Make sure you have a great seat.
Your experience will very much depend on the specific opera, some are good, some are mediocre. The interior is good save some soviet time inheritance that doesnt play well with the content (golden hammers and sickles, really?)
I really enjoyed my visit at Minsk Bolshoi, I saw, I enjoyed, I felt La Traviata and Carmen. The internal environment was amazing, the acoustics was great. One thing as the opera shall work with is to encourage their staff not to be afraid of their English. That woman I asked how I could find my seat, get scared as soon she heard that Im English speaking and sad, No English, No English! Even then I showed her my ticket and pointed on the seatnumber, she sad No English. Another more forwardminded woman solved the problem, but in fact the first woman could speak English - she was just afraid to say something wrong and I told her not to be afraid because I realized . Next time I walked directly to her and gave her my ticket and that was easy because I had the same seat as the first time, but the was in this way in Russian. Another thing the should think about is to have programs in English, at least on request if they know that English speaking had ordered ticket, for me it would be an honor to have a program from Minsk Bolshoi to show people at home. I know its a cost to print, but in advance ask those who ordered ticket if they want - maybe a lighter version. But its still a wish to come back and enjoy opera in Minsk sooner, then later.
Beautiful exterior. Next time I want to see a performance.
Artistic performance of "Spartak" was great. Its interesting to explore story of opera building and all the interior. For such an international place service of bars and internationalization could be even on higher level.
National opera & Ballet Theatre is located in the old city of Minsk almost. The interior of the building is all romantic and old-fashioned that one can imagine: high ceilings, light, walls, cushioned seats, lots of gold, wooden wardrobe and hall has excellent acoustics.
Belarusian ballets are of higher class than operas. The building is of unusual for opera&ballet houses style, but I find the style very beautiful. Nice place, worth visiting.
