Old-school porcelain studio with an outdoor brick kiln, fine dishware displays & a quaint tearoom.
Excellent day out & very interesting
Cycled here and stopped for a coffee and welshcake. Lovely warm welcome. Ill definitely do the tour next time.
Brilliant tour. . excellent price ..well with a visit
On the plus side, the ticket price is low.
We had the most wonderful trip to the Nantgarw Chinaworks last week. We only had one day we could make the tour and this happened to be a very busy day at the Chinaworks but hearing our predicament they very, very kindly agreed to fit us in. We arrived and were made to feel so welcome as soon as we stepped through the door and began our visit with a cream tea. The room was set out beautifully and the china used was, as you’d imagine, absolutely gorgeous. Every part of the cream tea was delicious and very good value, with very generous portions, none of the three of us had room for our evening meal afterwards ! June took our tour for us and she was wonderful, extremely knowledgeable and like all the other people we met there, obviously passionate about the chinaworks. We learnt so much and it was all very, very interesting. It’s a proper gem of a place and would make a lovely outing for anyone of any age and the tour itself is exceptional value, it would make a complete bargain outing for a family, £2.50 per adult, free for the under 16s ! The Chinaworks shouldnt be thought of just for visitors to the area, it has so much interest for everyone including Caerphilly and area residents, it’s something we can be very proud of. Thanks so much to you all for our very lovely afternoon with you.
Very very interested place take plenty of cash £30 ,000 for a plate
Visiting the antique fayre here today. Lots to see and lovely museum as well. Refreshments being sold on site.
What a gem! Full of history about the not so well known china works & pottery from inception to end. Our tour guide Lisa was brilliant and well informed and made the visit. We saw the whole of the works from the history to modern use of the site.As a treat we had the Welsh Cream Tea afterwards and it was delicious. Scones with jam & cream, Bara Brith & Welsh Cakes.Recommend a visit.
Really fascinating talk delivered well by a knowledgeable gentleman with a sense of humour. Good tour as well. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful porcelain.Great tour with tea and cake at the end..
Absolutely wonderful tour by Charles. Anyone visiting Wales must put on their to-do list.
Very interesting.Nice to see modern porcelain production also.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn some Welsh history youve probably never heard of before. We expected to have a quick walk around but we ended up spending two hours soaking it all in with our wonderful guide, Mike, and we stayed for some coffee and cakes after. They run traditional craft courses too so well be back to learn pottery and basket-making.
Lovely little museum and pottery which runs a variety of courses on the premises as well as tours and cream teas. Not a huge place but well worth a visit especially for fans of Nantgarw porcelain. They have recreated the original formula and manufacture a modern version... all very interesting.
Love my pottery classes here. Great annual open day with craft experts on site.
A great historical building with passionate staff and volunteers with a cute Cafe!I popped by recently on a Saturday for a tour which is £2.50 and lasts around hour and a half. They offer various workshops throughout the year and you can also request things to be made, whoever you are! These items do cost yet if your a fan, collector or love porcelain, it is well worth the investment!
A wonderful place with informed staff, fascinating exhibits, a great introductory video - and even a lovely cup of tea and Welsh cakes! A gem of a place, its like discovering a hidden treasure.
This is a fantastic little museum to learn about the amazing Nantgarw China and also about the local area. Well recommended and great for some morning tea too. Stop in for a cuppa and a chat atleast.Kids might be a little bored but the adults will have a great time learning a little heritage of the area.
Lovely and welcoming
Nantgarw China Works is conveniently located on the 120 Caerphilly Pontypridd bus route with just a short walk up the hill. We thoroughly enjoyed our informative guided tour from Mike who is just one of the knowledgeable and pleasant volunteers at this charming little china works. The tour was free of charge and we spent some loose change on souvenirs and a spot of tea and cake in the quaint little tea room.We would highly recommend if you are looking for an hour out of the house to indulge in some Welsh history.
Small but lovely place at Nantgarw. There is brilliant old uncle explained something about China Work Museum and Art Gallery. He put the DVD on about most popular and quality porcelain makers video. Porcelain maker man died with secret recipes about how to make thin porcelain. Upstairs there was another man who explained us how they tried and found out best match good quality porcelain recipe. Spectacular place to go. Just spend half hour to keep this museum open.
First class museum
Really interesting place. Lovely friendly informative volunteers.
Very Interesting place, really worth a visit.
Excellent little museum, run by fantastic volunteers, offering very enthusiastic talks and information about the history of the building and whole site. Displays are interesting and you can enjoy a nice cup of tea and cake in the old cottage at very reasonable prices.
Lovely museum with tea room. Runs evening classes for pottery and glass fusing. Weekend events included taster sessions and craft fairs. Check out their advert for details.
The museum is closed for winter but there are pottery classes which are great fun. Its not that easy to find and parking and access are on a hill (well it is Wales after allbut I hope the revival continues!
Excellent little museum sitting conveniently near the Taff Trail. The volunteer guides June and Jeff were so welcoming, friendly and passionate about the museum, really selling all the stories connected to the place. It has very good ceramic workshop, so attending any workshops would be an experience.Examples of Nantgarw Porcelain and porcelain from Swansea, as well as earthenware and salt glazed pottery produced at the place after production of the Nantgarw porcelain failed.
Charming site illustrating a fascinating episode in Waless industrial and artistic history
Came for the antiques fair.£1.50 entry but access for wheelchair users was very poor due to it being an old building. Nothing really they could do about it but if had known we wouldnt have bothered.
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Museum interesting and tea rooms lovely. I took my elderly Aunt and the staff didnt hurry her and made sure she was safe as we walked around the site. A lovely afternoon and I will look out to for events at the museum in the future.
Nice little place.
Small Museum which nicely illustrates a forgotten part of local history. Staffed by enthusiastic volunteers with a simple tea room.
Great place to visit with knowledgeable guides and great refreshments. Ceramic history comes alive.
Historical Porcelain works. The last of its kind in the UK. The Nantgarw Museum is run by a small band of volunteers. It is a charitable trust which depends purely on donationsNantgarw was founded in 1813 by William Billingsley and his family, closing in 1823, it was later operated by the Pardoe family making clay pipes.Nantgarw Porcelain is renowned around the world for its fine quality
