Nairobi National Museum - National museum in Eldoret, Kenya
Definitely must visit. From a lot of galleries on natural science, history, colonialism and culture to a snake park and an aquarium you can easily spend a good couple of hours learning more about Kenya, its land, its people and animals. Make sure you bring card or empeza tho, as they don’t take cash!
Awesome, our guide Peter was just great. You must see this place if only for the history of mankind. The whole Louis / Richard Leakey Olduvai Gorge thing is laid out here. Austrolipithicus / Lucy is on display! Every Kenyan animal is here full size + so much more. The snake house is thrilling / terrifying , good restaurant , go to this museum!!
Youll need a guide for your first time to enjoy the varieties. Be ready to tip the staff for their time in guiding you.Overall a great experience.
Very good place to relax and see kenyan culture and the services and tour guides are amazing. Theres a lot to see, from african art, stuffed wild animals, african garments and history, especially during the colonization period. There is also a snake park where you get to view snakes through glass, turtles and huge lizards. There is a restaurant that serves African, Indian and Chinese food too. You will find all kinds of people here, from international tourists and local tourists.
Nice exhibition ranging from history if Kenya to the evolution of humankind. Well curated, organised and enough explanation along the way to do it by your own. Of course you can get a guide around the museum to get the wider picture. Totally recommend.
The place is nice and the staff are all friendly. However, the items on display aren’t that exciting or unique, the animal room is just some random animals, the bird gallery is very good! The Kenyan history hall is also nice.I was disappointed with the cradle of humanity room, you’d expect a bit more from the actual cradle of humanity, but all and all it was a nice experience, it costs KSH 1200 and combined with the snake park it’s KSH 1500.
There are different types of tickets, one for the museum only, one for the snake park, and one combined with discount. The prices are different if you citizen, resident or non-residents.It is amazing, I did not expect that I will enjoy like this. There are different sections, I liked the story of mammals, and the history of kenya the most. The snake park was good and there are also turtles and crocodiles. You can take photos in most areas. There are also many types of plants with description and health use of it
Visited todayThe snake Park is just what made me really impressed. I had a picture holding a snake.Entry at the main gate is free so you can just stay there , have a picnic or take some photos. Visiting the museum is ksh 200 for residents. The snake Park too. They have various reptiles not just snakes they also have a fresh water aquarium and a marine aquarium. I think it was worth it. You should definitely visit. Ooh yeah didnt bother Visiting the museum unfortunately.
One of the must dos during anyones visit to Nairobi in my own opinion. Entry is around 12.5€ and tbis included the main museum and the snake exhibition. We were greeted with a guide which offered a private tour for free as part of the tour according to the amount of time we were willing to spend there. We had 2 hours to spare which was more than enough to go through all the 12 halls of the museum. We got to learn about Kenyan history, human evolution, animal and bird different species, the currency evolution, different tribes and their behaviors and more..The snake exhibition was much smaller, it had all types of snakes from Africa, there was also a bunch of lizards and crocodiles which was fun to see up close
Not as I expected with old histories...but definitely quite and good area to spend the time around...
I went early in the day. It was great to see the museum exhibits and then the Snake Center.
This place is so full of history. Detailed history on many aspects of Kenya and humanity
Don’t think this is small museum, its quite big enough to make you tired for sure. Museum is cool with great artifacts and kept clean with maintaining the quality.Disappointed with the snake park though as its not upto the mark… though they have impressive snake species inside.
There’s a bit of everything here and so something for everyone whether you’re interested in animals, plants, history, art, or whatever. You can get a deal by paying a little more so that your ticket also gets you into the Snake Park. We opted for no guide at the museum as we wanted to go at our own pace. At the Snake Park, a guide took us in, and though if I’d been asked, I would have declined. Nevertheless, he was helpful and didn’t belabor any of the exhibits so it was an all around pleasant and informative experience.
National Museum is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the history of Kenya. Everything is well arranged. I absolutely enjoyed seeing the art gallery as well as the History of Kenya section. One section leads to another. Didnt visit the snake park but the Museum itself was enough!
Nice experience being there..I learned alot..
Learn alot of history, textile, politics, how to money was used long time ago and the animals. Its a nice place to discover the world. Great in gallery area, 😍the drawing are really beautiful ❤️❤️kindly support them.
I had the best experience here. The service was perfect & pretty lovable. To what can be found here...1. I learned the entire history of our great nation - Kenya (compressed version of course)2. All birds found in Kenya visual & description3. Animals found in our jungles4. Snake park and comprehensive aquarium.5. An art gallery (no photos here)Location visited: Museum Hill - Nairobi Kenya.
History, evolution and curiosities. Nice place to visit in Nairobi.
What a hidden gem. You will need at least 2 hours to get through the whole place. A wonderful history of Kenya and East Africa. Magnificent display of birds and animals too. Dont miss out. It could be hot in the summer though. I went in June. Perfect.
This Museum has really changed for the betterVibrant colours, decor, garden and of course artwork and historical monumentsWorth a visit.
Fascinating museum. I was particularly fascinated by the exhibition of the renowned artist, Leonard KATEETE. A collection of oil portraits of couples from various regional tribes of Africa, painted by the artist visiting them in their traditional setting, preserving the cultural and heritage of the people.
The largest museum Ive ever been to. We spent around 2hrs and 30 minutes walking through the galleries(about 9and the snake park. We totally had a great experience. I loved how easy navigation is within the museum. At the museum, theres the museum itself, a snake park, botanical gardens and nature trail, art gallery, temporary exhibitions and a state of the art auditorium which hosts various events.Open Monday to Sunday: 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Including public holidays and weekends. You can go at like 2:00 p.m. so that you have enough time for the whole experience.I suggest you taking combined tickets for the museum & the snake park;• Citizen Adults Kshs. 300• Child below 16 years Kshs. 150• Resident Adults Kshs. 600• Child below 16 years Kshs. 300• Non-Resident Adults Kshs. 1,500• Child below 16 years Kshs. 1,000Find the other prices attached in the images here in.Have fun!
A very rich history of Kenya and well labelled items. Even without a guide you are able to read and follow all that is placed in there. Its clean and habitable and well maintained
One of the best ways to spend a day in nairobi. Was a pleasant surprise. We were there for 3.5hours but it still felt rushed. We had an awesome time. Its clean, modern and oh so rich. There’s culture, history, an aquarium, a snake/reptile park, a nature walk and a cafe. You have an option to take a guide (a must for our next visit). The staff all around are excellent and the charges extremely reasonable. Was pleasantly surprised at how many people were visiting. My personal favorites were the snake park and the banking history. Very wide variety of snakes.
Worth a visit but the place needs some maintance. Gives a detailed description of history in Kenya. Snake park was ok. We really enjoyed having the Boa snake on the shoulders. Terrifying but great😊
Awesome place for family day out there is much to learn about Kenyans 🇰🇪 history and the wild animals
I went there in 2020 and I also went there this weekend with my gf. This museum is a nice place to learn about Kenyan heritage, wildlife, politics, money, religion and traditions. Its kinda light on the actual science but otherwise its really good.As someone who is not native to Kenya I especially got a kick out of the traditions and rituals section. See the pictures.
I very much enjoyed visiting Nairobi National Museum and the Snake Park.I was amazed by the African bird exhibit and the literally thousands of birds they had on display. A wealth of information for African wildlife fans. The central back and currency section was fascinating also. I hadnt realized how much foreign influence there was in Kenya and their banking system. The snake park was interesting and lots of variety of venomous and non-venomous snakes on display. The red spitting cobra seemed the most interested in us and say upright most of the time we were near that display. Also several turtles and crocodiles on display. The only thing I felt disappointed with was the much bigger cost for non-residents. Its common here in Kenya, but the difference for citizens and non-residents is steep. But not so much as the national parks here. 🤣
What a pleasant surprise! If you are a keen bird watcher, their bird display is awesome! Take a guide when you enter and they will make the museum come alive. Definitely worth a visit.
The place was enjoyable, aquarium side was lovely, and snake side was scary, but also fascinating.
A good place to relax and enjoy nature. Although the dirt in Nairobi river that passes through the museum is sickening. I wish we could do something.
Despite visiting on a Saturday which is one of their busy days still felt very comfortable as it is quite big and spacious so ddnt feel crowded at all in most of the sections. Spent about an hr and a half (which was definitely worth it). Lots to see and is very family friendly
Excellent museum. Costs 1,200kshs for a non-resident adult. Would recommend 45mins-1.30mins depending on how much you read into each exhibit.Good temporary exhibits, as well as permanent exhibits on Kenyan history, East African wildlife, and contemporary art.
Got to learn a lot of kenyas 🇰🇪 history and culture
I enjoyed my visit and spent more time there that I thought. Such rich history and I learned new things about this country, the good the bad the ugly the beautiful! They have reptiles and fish on the other side of the grounds.
Very spectacular 😁😁😁... You should visit the place if you havent yet visited... Theres alot of fascinating stuff
So much, to learn from here, especially for my home educated children, we got to dig deep about our roots and where we come from. The art is beautiful; it was so pleasant to see black superheroes/warriors from KenyaThis whole chair was made out of pangas/machetes for the kings.
Completely enjoyed my visit to this museum. They had 9 galleries encompassing everything from history, anthropology, animal kingdom, Kenyan tradition and more. You can get a tour guide to show you around free of charge, who was very good and knowledgeable, and I tipped very well. There are several gift shops, a restaurant, a small garden, and a snake display for an additional charge. It’s a very good visit.
Learned so much that I wouldnt otherwise have remembered from previous trips yo the museum as a kid.It takes about an hour to go through all exhibition hall. The snake park is run down
The museum covers diverse topics, from wildlife, history, earth sciences, economics, art etc. Photos can be taken everywhere except in the gallery. Of course, dont forget to hold a snake when visiting the reptile park.
A good place to view our cultural and heritage...You can shop for the things that interests you at a fair price.....There are also areas for recreation as they are a joint
This museum is *not* a must while visiting the city, but is a good way to start if you would like to get some background on Kenyan history and culture. If you are not familiar with the museum, ask for a guide, they are provided with no additional charge and give a great added value to the visit.Entrance for none resident is 1,200 shillings and they do not accept cash.Dont miss the African birds exposition located at the end of the tour.
Im super amazed with the level of documentation they had at the museum, the staff is friendly and tour guides are beyond amazing, definitely shouldnt miss this museum while youre in Nairobi as well as the snake park.
The place has a wealth of information.A mix of culture, history and nature .You should probably not go with very small children as they tend to get impatient!!A lot of reading on the exhibits. We went with upper primary students.
I visited here with my siblings and the experience was wonderful...they really learnt alot and did alot of notes...I would recommend such kind of adventure for children
Definitely consider visiting here before your safari to learn a bit about the animals you’ll see. Great for kids. Snake park is worth the combo ticket.
Asides from the Archives located at the CBD in the heart of Nairobi county, the national museum is the go-to place to learn about Kenyan history, culture, traditions, and heritage. It is a beautiful stricture to behold as well as an amazing interior design. Theres a lot to see and learn about here. The staff is courteous and the guides are cheerful.
A nice place to viait and learn everything about Kenya. The animals are real and stuffed and preserve a great place to take your kids foe educational purposes.
Never knew the museum was this big and informative. 2 floors of knowledge and amazing outdoors with nice lawns. Enjoy the snake park too with huge crocodiles too. A total 10 over ten must visit place. Its affordable too.
