10 James St, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8BT, Wete
Large, busy pub with Victorian interior serving McMullens' draught beers and traditional pub food.
Really nice place, fair prices (considering the zone), nice view, good service, good beer. Even the bathrooms are nice.We were sitting upstairs.
Had an enjoyable few hours in this pub on a wet and windy Friday afternoon .. It was very busy as everybody had the same idea . A nice selection of real ale available and the food being served looked and smelt good
Ideal location. Food delicious 😋 very friendly staff. Well worth a visit 😊
Great pub. Nice beer. Rude staff, stroppy at night. I will not return.
Ordered beef pasta, came undercooked, didn’t digest well evidently, poor all round. In addition, they charge for cheese. Just because you’re in Covent Garden, doesn’t mean you can expect good service.
Very good Guinness !
Popped by on a Friday afternoon for a break from the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden, great pub with a good selection of beers and a traditional pub style vibe.
Stopped by to get out of the rain for a bit! Nice pub with very friendly staff and a good selection of beers.
Great atmosphere, food looked really good but had to get the train so will give that a try when we return
There is surely not a better meeting spot than the nags! Great pub
An English pub just off the market stalls at Convent Garden. To be honest I wasn’t expecting too much from here and thought it would be a tourist trap. Needless to say I am delighted to report that the beef Sunday roast I got was absolutely delicious! All the elements were done to perfection and a nice size portion too. Even the gravy was bang on! The beef was tender, the roast potatoes was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, veg was not over cooked and the Yorkshire was light and fluffy! Definitely recommend for the great location (especially if you like to people watch), the hive of activity (lots of buskersand of course the roast which was very reasonable at £17.50.
Nice big typically English pub! Spacious, bright and airy, staff friendly, drinks a little over priced, but on par with London prices. Accessible, a bit loud, so wouldnt recommend if you prefer a quiet environment.
Being a 1st time visitor from 🇨🇦 Canada 🇨🇦 my family and I were delighted to stumble onto this very charming pub in Covent Garden. The atmosphere was friendly, the beer was amazing but the real treasure of this pub is the staff. My family really enjoyed our visit and we are still talking about the fish and chips…absolutely delicious. The portions were great and it was amazing. Thank You Stephen for your recommendations and making us all feel welcome. Top Notch. We recommend you try this place out you won’t be disappointed. We all gave a 5 star rating but the food, staff and atmosphere there deserve more. 👍👍
!Thieves operate in this pub!Had my phone stolen while sitting down in the nags head, beware of the scam artists. Man pretended to chat to us while covering our phones with a piece of paper he then stole the phone. Won’t be returning
Rude, cockey, arrogant, smug young bartender who told us that the homeless man harassing my eighty-year-old grandfather was more than welcome to stay, and if we didnt like it we could leave. So the pub lost four respectful, paying customers of three generations, and ended up with a man who hadnt washed in a fortnight and never even bought a drink. W*****s
Visited with my 17-year old daughter, chose this place because we are Sunderland fans and saw it was a god pub on social media. Had pie and mash, the pie was amazing. Beer was costly, but it is London and we have cheaper beer in the North East so can’t really complain. Would go back next time in London.
Average sort of English pub but thats not a bad thing. Toasted sandwich good, staff great, beer very average but no different to most others.
Busy and loud pub, for what we were looking for a bit too busy, but if looking for a pub with a great place to start a night out with pre drinks then this is a good place to go. Stones throw from tube station exit and in the middle of Covent Garden. Friendly staff, even though very busy - were great at keeping on top of tables being tidy and clean etc
Good pub right outside Covent Garden station. Inside is a lot nicer than outside in my opinion. Nothing too special though.
Love, love, love Covent Garden. The prices for Hand made articles are reasonable too. Not like Notting Hill ( its a rip off)
a nice pint. the food is beyond awful! staff not a lot better
This pub in the heart of Covent Garden has an old traditional style and atmosphere. The decor is a mixture of modern and vintage. There is a heavy theme of wood and it is very spacious to allow for socialising. The drinks are fairly standard prices for Central London. There is a good selection of drinks and the staff are quick with the service. The place is clean and it is a good place to meet with friends or colleagues.
The Beef and Ale pie is insane! Beer selection is good and staff is extremely friendly!
Stayed for lunch and a couple of pints, nice food (cod goujon sandwich),good atmosphere too
Great pubLovely atmosphere great staff
Perfect. Especially loved the Half chicken roast (shown in photo)! Got a table quickly for a Saturday afternoon, but it was indeed crowded (so be prepared to wait )
Smack in the middle of Covent Garden, off Long Acre, is this lively little pub with lots of charm. With only a few tables and plenty of outdoor space, it’s always filled with interesting characters. Staff are super friendly too.
Fantastic traditional London boozer! Friendly service and a wide selection of drinks.
Busy little pub, great atmosphere, helpful friendly staff.
Very pleasant venue, "traditional" bar and seating area, wide selection of drinks on tap as well as bottled ciders. Food also available that judging by a table near me looked very tasty, and sizable portions.
PIning for a crusty roll and some SOup, if only to rest our feet for a while, we were welcomed here. This is a great spot, just up from Covent Garden, where you can sit down and watch the world (well, touristsgo by. A proper British boozer.
Wow, what a find! If you want action, dine downstairs. But if you want good food in an oasis of calm before your show, dine upstairs. Its fabulous with great food. Well recommended.
Whilst I only have a beer here, this is a really nice authentic English pub. The decor of this building adds to the authenticity. There are a bunch of different drinks available on tap. The staff here are very attentive and we had a wonderful conversation. I would certainly return next time Im in the Covent Garden region.
Went in yesterday for lunch marvellous very friendly staff and lovely food and very good prices 🍺🍺
Nice pub. Great location. Good choices of beers, wines and spirits. Food available. A great evening, afternoon or lunchtime out.
Nice pub with an old school feel inside. There is plenty of outside seating. Polite and friendly staff on our visits.
When we were here it was absolutely packed. It was a cold day outside and had started to rain. As soon as we arrived inside we were greeted by the lovely staff. Although busy we were served very fast and am very glad we went here
A traditional London pub with a wide range of beers, wines and more. Situated close to one to Garden Market. Poplar with visitors. A simple pub menu with most tastes catered for. A pleasant atmosphere with lovely staff to look after you. Worth a visit.
Lovely and cozy pub, the only one open until 11pm in Covent Garden area with more than a seat. Beautiful interior and friendly staff.
Nice food, very filling, awesome view from upstairs. Chips a bit bland but otherwise good.
Great pub in the heart of Covent Garden. Although it was busy on a Saturday afternoon they had plenty of staff and service was spot on and friendly. Nice mix of real ales to choose from and a really smooth cloudy cider. Will definitely return on my next visit.
Absolutely awesome place. Visited it by recommendation of a friend that lives in London, and I know why he recommended it. The atmosphere is remarkable. Something that people in UK do not really appreciate, is that their bars, I clouding this one are more than a 100 years old. Good kitchen, as far as I may judge, had only fish and chips there, and it was good. Strongly advised!
Great pub in the heart of Covent garden, they serve food upstairs which has some great brunch options like pies, chicken dishes and burgers, not to forget fish n chips :)
Nice victorian pub, good beer, well kept, has the feel of constancy about it...i am sure its was not quite as well kept in the 70s when the market was active, and very probably kept different hours...its conviently close to the tube, and a very handy and welcome bolt hole while the women folk go shopping, in Covent garden and the seven dials there are only so many twee little shop that a fellow wants to visit.
Lovely location and nice dining area. The food was not good though. We ordered fish chips and mushy peas and hunters chicken. The fish was ok but the triple cooked chips were cooked on different days as they were cold on both plates. The mushy peas were so dry my wife left them untouched. My hunters chicken was so dry and the bacon was rock hard. We had2 teas which were ok. All in all £32.00 For a very poor meal. Sorry the only pic is the peas lol.
Given the location it is as busy as you would expect. Not a bad choice of beer and we managed to get a seat after a while. Service pretty slow though, staff dont pay attention to the order people arrive at the bar and also stack themselves heavier on one side of the bar which makes it slow the other side.Update December 2018 - I have since been back and unfortunately things were worse. The bar staff seemingly have no clue what the drinks are, they are terrible at serving in any semblance of order - it seems random at best but even random should have meant it took me less than 12 minutes to get served when a friend and I had at least 6 ft of bar real estate - we just kept getting ignored. I wont be going back again unfortunately. Great location ruined by the serving staff behind the bar.
This is a nice traditional English bar, selection of beers is average and the norm.It serves food which is reasonable priced and again just traditional British deep fried pub grub.Plenty of seating room with a hotshot bar so easy to gain access and get a seat.
Liked this traditional old pub in Covent Garden.Went years ago in the summer and everyone spilled out onto the streets. In winter it’s a nice place for a pump ale. The bitter they brew is fairly standard, but goes down ok.A good place to start your night
Solid pub grub... And nice atmosphere. Wine a bit on the expensive side £10 quid for a glass but then again its London and Covent Garden so to be expected I suppose. All in though nice food and quiet upstairs!!
A fine traditional pub with a Victorian/Edwardian interior. Service was good - Ham & Mustard sandwich with chips, was delicious. Service good but a little pricey.
