Nagano Japanese Restaurant in Anmore
Description
Privilege
It was the first time my boyfriend and I went to this place and we loved it! The sushi was so fresh and the customer service was very friendly. Will come again!
MoreOne of my favourite sushi places in the area if not my favourite. The food is always incredibly fresh and tasty, and the service is extremely helpful and friendly! Ask your server if you are unsure what to get, all of their recommendations have been phenomenal.Pictures include, Kani Sake, the house roll, the cali fry roll, and a special blue fin tuna tataki.
MoreI picked up an order of Teriyaki chicken. Went to eat it and the chicken was still pink. I didnt want to risk getting sick so I didnt eat it. I called the restaurant and they said I could bring it back but I wasnt able to get back there. They said they were too busy to deliver another order to me and just to microwave it. What a waste of $15.
Moremy absolute go-to spot when i’m in coquitlam! service is so friendly and sushi is delicious. our waitress recommended the uni and it was incredibly fresh and tasty. portions are generous and completely worth the price. will be back for sure!!
MoreWow! This raises the bar for quality of sashimi and Japanese food. The service was friendly and the food was top notch. I had dishes I didn’t know existed. Herring with roe and sizzling scallops were new experiences for me and I loved them. I will definitely be coming back and bringing my husband for a deli shoots date night.
MoreI am taking back my 5 star review! The last three orders were disgusting. Sushi were tasteless!
MoreGreat place. Good service. Friendly environment. Clean place. Just a great place to have sushi and sashimi dish. Love this place.
MoreI usually order from this place several times a month but I got my regular favourite today and I’m super disappointed at the difference in quality. It was a watery mess with no sauce and the chicken was not like I normally get it. Very disappointing and not sure I will be risking this again,
MoreIncredibly disappointed. We ordered the silk worm roll: chopped scallop roll with amaebi wrapped with avocado. An ordinary chopped scallop roll is $7.99 (already pricey). But the silk worm roll, with the addition of a TINY piece of amaebi (which we couldnt find and had to ask if they forgot itand avocado is a whopping $18.99.Also, their menu stated that one piece of ikura nigiri is $4.50, but they charged us $5.50. I understand inflation is a thing, but update your menus and stop deceiving customers. The rice also tasted like someone dumped cologne in it...tasted very weird. The only saving grace was the ika nigiri was good.Do not come here if you have a choice.
MoreNice cozy place with friendly staff.Food was upto mark👍
A little night owl secret in coquitlam... this is one of the few restaurants with gteat food open till 1 am. So the great sushi, teriyaki and other Japanese deliciousness are a staple food for those of that like the mid night snack.
MoreThe sashimi was yummy and fresh. The waitresses were really nice. The sushi man was friendly too. But please hire more workers! The waitresses were super busy as well as the sushi man that they were working non stop and I felt bad for them with how busy they were.. Very friendly service and fresh sashimi
MoreWe have decided to dine in again after ordering from them several times for take out. The experience and food quality was way more better than we expected. We ordered a captain combo which it came with assorted sashimi, a dragon roll and a tepanyaki tuna, which the chef came placed the fresh tuna on the iron plate.Just by looking at the placement of the food on the plate, you can tell the chef is very careful of making the food. The sashimi taste very fresh and the dragon roll also taste very flavorble. The unagi on the top of the roll was grilled with light sauce. We also ordered a zaru soba which it came with two rolls of cold noodle with ice cubes on the side and inside the bowl of cold noodle sauce. Perfect for the summer heat. The noodle sauce tastes light but great during summer if youre craving for light food.I dont recommend the salmon and Kani tempura from the appetizers side the kani was made from artificial kani, not the fresh one. However, it still taste great.Overall the food quality is amazing and I do recommend to dine in the restaurant for better food quality. Take out might be a bit risky as some rolls may not be well prep. I will not recommend their rolls. Personally I think the chef is profession in making fine dined dishes.
MoreI been coming here since day one and Ive never had a bad meal. Food has always been great.
MoreThe experience with this place has been great for many years until yesterday. I ordered several dishes for dinner guest from Nagano Sushi since this place is well known for quality dishes. And even though it is a bit pricey, but worthwhile based on how they deliver dishes to customers. However, the quality of roll I received yesterday was terrible as I posted. I talked to a staff over the phone and sent them photos of rolls. The staff told me they can credit back just for negitoro roll only out of $170 of orders. The staff also mentioned all other rolls were looked ok for them.I wasnt happy how they come back with their product since I know how their plates usually look like. I also was surprised that they are proud with theses roll presentation. It was definitely “I did not get what I paid for”, and I need to consider other options for my next sushi plates.
MoreWe came here when the dragon roll was magnificent. It was also 12.95 in 2005; which was a lot of money back then when a roll was 3.25.It used to be a large roll with lots of caviar and eel sauce that you could easily share one between 2 people as a snack. We came in today and ordered it and there was hardly had any caviar on the roll and Unagi sauce and no mayo. It was good tasting though although not very big rolls for 18.99We also had the Rocky Point Roll which was real crabmeat topped with scallop and caviar. The 6 pieces were large but it lacked sauce and did not have much flavour. 17.99We also had the House Roll which was very tasty and a good size; a deal at 7.99We ordered the deep fried banana with ice cream which was 2 scoops of ice cream over pieces of deep fried banana drizzled with chocolate sauce. It was lovely.I was irritated when the price on the menu was 9.99 but when the bill came it was 10.99.So I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she would fix it. But then another woman came to tell me they havent changed the menu because it costs too much to make up new menus.I responded with, well just put a little sticker with correct price on the menu. The kicker is she did not offer to correct my bill which surprised me. Needless to say, I was not impressed. The quality of the food is good overall. Its just the special rolls were rather expensive for the size of the sushi rolls.
MoreTrash, server completely forgot 2 items until I reminded them.Says sorry for the wait 20 minutes later. Was it busy? No, we were the only ones dining in...??
MoreGood food, and the ambiance is so welcoming. Pei (not sure about spellingis the owner, and sushi chef. He is personable, and really friendly. I asked for Asahi Dry Black, which they didnt have. He said he will start stocking it again. I came back a few weeks later, and they actually had it!!! Pei is a cool guy. The staff at the restaurant is friendly and accommodating. Overall good vibes at this place. It is my go to place for take out, but also when I want to have sizzling scallops, and a beer. I usually go during dinner time, but they are also the only place open, late at night.
MoreSo ... weve been today after work. Half full. Not really busy.AC was on and we were freezing despite the hoodie. We ordered menu.Miso soup was at best warm ... or cold. The sunomono was straight out of the fridge and was really cold ... but good !The curry was good but we had to send it back as it was cold in the middle and hot on the edge. I would guess that the microwave was not working properly? After that, weve been waiting for at least 20 minutes for the dessert which we reminded the waitress of ... that we never received. So we just paid and left.We might have been unlucky but it was a really unpleasant moment ...
MoreWe loved the food and our waitress yesterday night was amazing, everyone was so kind and made the experience even more pleasant. We will for sure go back.
MoreSushi is pretty good here, the time theyre open till is really the only great thing about the restaurant. I ordered for pick up and was told 15 minutes and Im still waiting in the restaurant after 40 minutes. 😑 the service is really bad here.
MoreFood was delicious and service was very good in the beginning but when there was a problem with my second bottle of beer having a strange taste and told the nice lady serving our meals about it, she never came back to resolve the problem and instead another lady took over. They even tried to charge us three bottles of beers when I only ordered two bottles. I would still consider going back here but only if they will improve their service.
MoreIve been going to Nagano for 23 years (since I was three... find my artwork placed on some of the walls). Amazing food and friendly people. Chef Pei is close enough to consider him family. Locals and regulars come here all the time. It might be a little pricer than other places, but you are paying for great quality food. I recommend the sushi, rolls, and sashimi.
MoreThis place has consistently good food, the reason why I give it a one-star rating is because sushi is a very competitive market where we live and this place is really overpriced and honestly Im not overly amazed by it there is just as many other places that are just as good that are way cheaper. It should not be $40 at a sushi place for two people for lunch when we had 12 pieces of sushi each.
MoreMixed tempura had some imitation crab leg, the veggies were fine otherwise. Some rolls had mayonnaise rolled with the cucumber, a little odd to be used as an ingredient for that type of roll. Not very satisfied overall for a first impression and interesting menu, would not order from here again. Disappointing.
MoreI personally liked this place.. menu options are very good.. the Chirashi is a must eat at budget..Looking forward the OmakaseThe staff very very friendly and the place is open until late night!!
MoreA little busy on a Friday night, so service was a tiny bit hectic. All in all it only took about 10 min to get seated, and this is a solid sushi joint for the price, with a bit of an attempt at a night club ambiance. Will go again.
MoreGrabbed lunch with my friend here today, delicious sushi and fantastic service! They even surprised us with a small dish on the house! Highly recommend swinging by if you are in the Coquitlam area :)
MoreAmazing! My new favourite sushi place. Fresh wasabi, incredible concoctions, clean, fresh, top notch service. Ive been meaning to post a review since we dined in last Saturday. I had to because it was so good. Having grown up in the lower mainland, Ive eaten more than my share of sushi. This place is the best yet.
MoreI went with some friends of mine to have dinner here today and had a wonderful time. I cant speak for the food the others had, but I had the deluxe roll combo and it was delicious. It was very filling and a good portion size for the price. We also each received a complementary roll (though I dont remember the nameand that was also quite tasty. As for the service, we were put into this room-like booth that was pleasant both for distancing from other customers and making our conversation over dinner more enjoyable. Our main server was Sugi (I hope I spelled that correctlyand she was lovely. All other servers who we interacted with were also very friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be coming back.
MoreWhat an amazing spot! Great date ambience with traditional look of a Japanese bistro and they even have nice private rooms as well. Food was spectacular and staff were very friendly. We ordered lots and everything was good but these were the amazing standouts you have to try! BBQ Black Cod, Hamachi Kamma (its a flambe dish they make at your table and may have been my favorite of the night), soft shell crab, and Toro Sashimi. Everything else was good as well but those are the must try. We were lucky as well to meet the owner/head chef as he served the Hamachi Kamma to us. Very courteous and humorous guy.Being a huge fan of Japanese food, Ive eaten my fair share in life and even though there are places that make 1 or 2 standout dishes, this place had quite a few which is why I had to leave this review. For time Id recommend going around 6 - 7 as the place started to get really busy around 730 (on a Tuesday night even). Im guessing because its an open late place. But if you like a more bustling ambience then come after 730.Anyways, this place was a great treat and surprise today for us for Chinese New Year. Try what I recommended and thank me later! ;)
MoreWent to have lunch with my family today. Had sushi many times at various places but we can say this was of my best experience. Food was great and the staff was very friendly. We have decided that we will definitely be going back again. A must try for anyone.
Moregot a katsu don for take out, it was good 👍 not good to be a five star but good enough to be a 4 star. came w miso soup :))
MoreFriendly and excellent service. One of the best sushi in town.
Never had such gross food in my entire life. 17.99 for 6pieces over flamed fish singe. 18.99 oden for couple pieces fish balls. I have to admit I must be a sinner that God punishes me like that!
MoreThe Coolest sushi 🍣 restaurant ever!!! I am a huge sushi fan - and I Am extremely picky about sushi restaurants — this said Nagano was one of the TOP sushi spots I have ever been to 🙈 super fresh, extremely fun and very trendy with an amazing Japanese fusion ❤️ thank you Mr.Pae for such an incredible experience 🥰🙏I would just let Mr.Pae decide what’s on your menu😜
MoreI don’t normally come here because the prices are higher than it’s neighbouring sushi restaurants, but decided to try something else for a change.Ordered the Chirashi Don, and ended up chewing on some pieces of styrofoam. Those white pieces on the chopsticks are not rice.On top of that the rice is under cooked and some pieces of rice are even too hard to chew.Unfortunately this experience may turn me off from this place for a little while. But I’m sure I’ll get over itGave it 2 stars because atleast it was made fairly fast.
MoreI reside in Maple Ridge, a 30 minute drive from Naganos, a place with sushi restaurants on every block in the downtown corridor, and I still choose to make the commute to Naganos every time when I want sushi.I have been eating sushi since I was a young child, and I can honestly say Naganos has the best sushi I have ever eaten in my life. I am a firm believer in fresh quality of ingredients over everything when it comes to eating out, and Naganos reflects that in their quality of meats. You will simply not find a place with fresher food, and I will stand by that forever. Ive gotten to know the staff & owner Mr. Pae very well, and every time I step in the restaurant they always greet me with a friendly attitude, up-beat demeanour and deliver impeccable service. This is hands down the best sushi cuisine I have had out of the MANY I have eaten at in the lower mainland; I recommend this restaurant to ANY seafood enthusiast looking for their next excellent meal.A note to add: The workers wear masks at ALL TIMES, have digital menus to avoid potential spread of germs, and are VERY diligent in wiping down counters promptly after guests leave. Cleanliness is TOP notch at this joint, make no mistake!Below are my two favourite dishes at Naganos: Salmon oshi & rico rico :)
MoreCame here for the omakase choice B, was not disappointed; the amount of food for the price point is definitely worth it. Sashimi choices by the chef were fresh, the rolls and appetizers were filling, and tons of flavor with every bite.Dessert at the end was also fantastic.
MoreI would seriously give this sushi joint a 10 out of 5 for the food (quality, freshness, attention to detail, excitement and flavouras well as the decor and aesthetics if i could, this is the nicest sushi youll have in Greater Vancouver in terms of taste and authenticity, period. My only memory of sushi this good was a looooonng time ago back in Japan, seriously. Our server unfortunately was very rushed and therefore came across quite impatient, but I guess its justified and to be fair was prompt and quick to receive your dishes delivered to the table. The menu is extremely vast and caters well to vegetarians (they also have veggie soy sauceand meat eaters, loads of delicious and exciting options especially for the cut rolls, I love the naming conventions theyre rad! Although, I wish they would Miso Soup on the menu as I didnt realize until I saw it heading to somebody elses table. The restaurant and staff are also extremely professional with handling COVID and definitely feels a safe and comfortable place to eat!
MoreWorst place ever. Messed up our skip order 3 times 2 of which were in a row. Didnt give $20 worth of rolls. 1 of which was for my 3 year old nephew who wouldnt eat any of the other food given. Then try ordering another time and get horrible looking sushi rolls that looked like they were literally thrown into the container and chicken wings instead of chicken karrage which was the the only good thing we got the first night when it was messed up. I get a refund from skip and wait another 40 minutes to get more chicken wings and skip wouldnt even refund fully so I have $50 worth of chicken wings which are about 20 wings... maybe ?
MoreThe restaurant has an appropriate Covid-19 protocol. It is not an authentic Japanese food but the quality of food is okay. The sashimi is fresher and thicker than other places. Love the green salads here but the portion was pretty small.
MoreServer was too busy focusing on regular customers, long wait time if this is your first time being here. Also very small portion with not so skilled sushi man, he prob rips nigiri rather than using knifes.Hot food items will not arrive in time so order with patience if you could wait long with not so friendly staffs.Would not recommend if your sushi lovers and who wants to be care by waitress
MoreThis place is worth the price! Their sashimi is one of the best Ive had in the lower mainland. Special rolls are well made as well. Their seafood udon is a little bland. Everything else was delicious!
MoreThe BEST Japanese restaurant I have ever been to! And lemme say I have been to MANY! If you havent tried this place definitely do so and order their Tuna and Salmon roll with spicy mayo on top 🤤 Their food is so fresh and their Oysters are amazing!
MoreOne of the better sushi places around!! Although the service lacked at times through our experience the freshness and great taste of the food made up for it!! Would highly recommend!
MoreI am a vegetarian and I love the food here! If you are there in the evenings and lucky enough, you may see my favourite server Vicky. She’s very patient and attentive to my dietary needs. Her recommended dishes have always been so bang on and delicious. I don’t usually tip very much but she totally deserves the big tips for what she does for her customers! Nagano is lucky to have someone like her 👍
MoreBeautiful authentic sashimi dishes you need to try! 👍😋Bluefin Tuna, Aji (horse mackereland Renkodai (red sea bream- white fleshed fish)
MoreSurprisingly VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY! Open late! The vege. udon soup was above average, nice mushroom broth flavours. Dancing Shiitake roll was also really good with the crisp taro(?bits. Large size rolls, but delicious. Dim atmosphere, a bit dark. Friendly staff.
MoreWonderful food and very good service. Try their garden salad; the dressing is addictive. And the Rei cold Sake is unreal; it smells like sweet grapes. Never once have I been disappointed with their food in the many many times Ive been to the Glen Drive location.
