My Neighbours the Dumplings - Restaurant in Ducheng, China
Very disappointed, booked a table for two and when got there was told I had the choice of one hour and 1.5 hour to eat, with a bit number written on the paper telling us we had to leave at 19.30, took away the joy of eating out. Stuff didn’t give us much attention which made the race worse. The food even is not worthy the stress and expensive for what it is. Very sad as we had high expectations on it.
This place is fantastic, cold noodles sounds a bit rogue but they were the best dish, absolutely divine. Dim sum were great and very reasonably priced. Will 100% be returning
Amazing place with so many veggie options! The truffle potato thing texture was insane.
Finally got to try this place out, after so many recommendations. LLLoved it!!! Amazing food, great cocktails, friendly team 🫶🏻
Really disappointed. Small portion, high price, mediocre taste at most. Salty and sweet. We barely saw any tofu in the mapo tofu dish. More like a pub than a restaurant. Weird lighting and environment. Do not recommend this to anyone who wants some proper Asian food.
If you like dim sum but feel the MSG in the traditional places can be a bit overwhelming, you might like this place. The food tastes fresh and lovingly made, and the decor is cute and well-chosen. I liked the fact that you can mark up the menu with your chosen options, which is a nice nod towards the dim sum restaurants that this establishment draws its inspiration from. The food tastes clean, tasty and is well-presented. I cant speak for how authentic it is - and will leave that to those with more experience of dim sum to say.
Great foodGood serviceBut cold in thereCould do with couple more options on menu
Delicious food. Great selection of dishes and lovely cocktails. Service is always great.
What a lovely find! We found this place by chance and it was the perfect place to end our weekend. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Will definitely go back!
Nice atmosphere/theming/music, slow and error strewn service, sometimes with a smile. Food is average, we enjoyed it on the whole but it wasn’t very well executed (some dumplings not well made, blandand we wouldn’t come back any time soon. (Thursday evening service).
Soulless food, pathetic portion, extortionists price. Really took offence in how this place is misleading people into believing this is what we would have called dumplings in any part of China. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Had very high hope for this but was the biggest let down I’ve had in dining out in London. Two of us ended up spending 140£ and was not even full.
Food was awesome. Atmosphere was awesome. Danny, oh my gosh 1000/10 awesome. Service, 9/10 not full awesome. Everyone should go.
The dumplings are good here, would be a bit awkward if they werent , the pot stickers were a particular highlight. Their garden out the back is very fun too. If you are into beer the Hitachino White Ale is a winner.
Super tasty dim sum, really lovely staff! Decor is cute and quirky, atmosphere is chilled, good vibes all round 🙏🏼😋
loved the food. such a nice place!
I was so excited to go here following excellent recommendations - but from the moment we entered, we felt burdensome. The waiter left within 5 seconds of slamming the menus on our table, circling return table by 9.15 and muttering something about ticking items on the menu, all of which we barely caught or could respond to because hed already left. My friend and I had a running joke about whether wed manage to get any kind of eye contact or actually be conversed with like we were human - sad to report this didnt change through the course of our entire meal. Surprisingly even more disappointing were the flavours and portion sizes - you couldnt taste a thing in the veg dumplings except coriander, the mapo tofu was only mediocre, and the nearly 10 quid cocktails were small enough to down in 2 sips.I couldnt quite figure out what has people so enthralled about this place - cute decor wont get you repeat customers, least of all if theyre being rushed in and out the door with nothing but dents in their pockets and the hunt for a second dinner.
Great restaurant with really delicious dumplings! They went out of their way to make my GFs birthday meal special this evening and we had a great evening. Good tunes too! Recommend highly. 👍🏼
A lovely space in Clapton, great for big or small groups. The staff are friendly, and the food and cocktails are amazing!
I visited this restaurant with a friend on a Friday evening (8th July). We didn’t have a reservation but when I arrived the server said (begrudginglyhe could give us a table for 1 hour and 15 mins. He made me feel like I was an inconvenience and he was doing me a big favour. While I waited for my friend to arrive (admittedly she was about 30 mins latethey didn’t offer me a drink or anything to eat. I had to catch someone’s attention to order a drink and wait while they finished cleaning tables before it arrived. Once my friend did arrive they still didn’t come over to offer any food or drinks. We flagged someone down and they told us (quite rudelywe couldn’t order certain things because it would take too long to cook and they needed the table back asap. We had our food and we were ready to leave, the server came over to tell us they needed the table, we said yes we’d like to leave but would need to pay them first and could we have the bill. Such terrible service, will not be going back here.
Amazing service and delectable dishes. The cucumber is out of this world, the silken tofu haunts my dreams! Already looking forward to returning!
Waited almost an hour and had to ask multiple times for the other half of our food to arrive as they had clearly forgotten, and after another half an hour some of it still wasnt there.Had the cheek to put 12% service on the bill, refused to pay that and left hungry.Food is decent if you can get it...!
So delicious! It’s quite a squeeze with table setting but otherwise service was brilliant and amazing spot for lunch or dinner. Their Bao’s are delicious!
Two stars because we’ve been here before and never had problems but today we waited for ten minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Not even a hello, a smile or ‘bare with guys’. Totally happy to wait but not being acknowledged is just really poor customer service. Walked out and the bar staff ran after us and said ‘I was making drinks’, I said ‘no one said hello to us’ and he threw his hand in annoyance?! How hard is it to say ‘hello we’ll be with you soon’, It’s common sense. FYI it wasn’t busy it was a Sunday afternoon.
Pretty good value for money but somewhat hit and miss. Some dumplings are great some feel way too ginger-heavy for my personal taste. The space is nice including the bar downstairs and outside seating area at the back
Positive: Mapo tofu was very good! Steamed Pak Choi was not bad either. It is a very lovely restaurant suitable for family and friend reunion. Glad we have this restaurant nearby!Room for improvement:We thought the dumplings were the most featured because of the name of the restaurant so we ordered the courgette fried dumplings and the vegetarian dumplings. The vegetarian dumpling was good but we feel the stuffing could be a bit more so that the portion of the skin and that of the stuffing could be more balanced. Courgette dumpling was not bad with wood ear but the texture of the courgette inside made us feel it was overcook.Another detail we noticed was that the way the waiters put the porcelain plates on the glass table when they were serving was quite forceful which made big noise. It is also quite lack of respect in Chinese culture to slam the dishes on the table. The waiters are all super nice, but if this detail could be noticed the customers would be happier!
I used to live around the corner so have visited often. Gorgeous little venue with a surprisingly sprawling interior, I would recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment as it gets busy. Great selection of dumplings, as well as other hot and cold dishes to share. My only comment is that the menu should be updated more regularly, as I feel like Ive tried it all now.
We ordered a few dishes to share Liked the tofu and the cucumbers chilli. Mapo tofu with mushroom wasnt bad too but the dumplings were so so. The vegan dumplings were nutty, not sure if I like it Their jasmine green tea has a very nice fragance
A fantastic and impressive neighbourhood restaurant. The dishes are really tasty. We really recommend the pan fried chicken with 3 cup glaze- we loved it so much we ordered it twice. Great atmosphere upstairs - a bit more romantic and secluded downstairs.
This restaurant has a good selection of meat and vegetarian food. They recommend 3-4 dishes per person. We got a selection between the 4 of us and where full after 6 shared dishes could have done with 1 or 2 more however its about £5.50 to £12 per dish so depends on how much you want to spend. Each dish was of good quality just not that big portion size. The cocktails are good theres four and they are specialised to go with the food. They also have beer, soft drinks and tea. Its a nice restaurant to go and try different types of food between a couple or group. Good atmosphere too.
Some good dishes but overall not great. Its a nice setting with friendly staff, but theres better in London for this sort of food. The chicken wings (might have been a daily specialwere very very good, multiple orders were made!
Always wanted to visit due to great reviews and name! Can’t believe it took so long! The food is amazing!Great selection, and really good combinations!Next time to order all the dumplings though! Might be the best I had so far! Flavour, stuffing, dough, was all just perfect!
Great food, however for a sharing menu our choices came in 3s I.e. 3 chicken wings between 2 people does not make sense to me!! Also the portions are tiny for the price!Overall the food is good make sure you order a good amount. The service from our waiter was great, however the atmosphere from the other kitchen staff was hostile, the stares I received when I walked into the empty restaurant was enough to walk right out. It didnt get any better throughout our meal. Our waiter made all the difference. Its a quick turn round so if you want to have a meal and have a long catch up with friends this isnt the place. My pics arent accurate I started eating before taking the pics sorry. 🙃
Great food, really the felling of you are in a backpackers restaurant somewhere in Asia including the dirty sticky tables
So many of the dishes including the scallop, chicken rice are not available on the current menu. Saying that the menu is still quite extensive. I opted for the wings, prawn dumpling, fried dumpling and prawn toast. The food was average at best. The wings which I was looking forward to trying the most where very heavily coated and lacked any depth in flavour. The dumplings were ok. Prawn toast quite oily. I’ve had fresh home made dumplings from ‘Panda’ so have been spoiled. Was ok experience but will not be returning for seconds. Staff were friendly.
Very disappointed. I keep hearing very good things about this place. But I feel like this is average if not bad dim sum. A good dim sum place in Clapton they said. But... it is more like the only dim sum place in Clapton. If you know Asian food well and you love it deeply, you will be disappointed with this restaurant.Nice vibes, cute interior, but the food was only ok, small portions and very pricy - ok, East London but I would at least want to leave full after spending £45 for dinner for two, not hungry. The service was probably the worst part. I get it, it is busy but I dont see how that is an excuse. The waiter did not even let us finish our question and he was already leaving our table. We did not get few items we ordered because he did not even have time to double check the order with us. I saw way busier places and the waiters still have more that 5second for their customers.Never again for me, so sad about this
Really cool little cocktail bar downstairs with great little DJ nights good for a midweek thing, hear the dumplings are good too, try the pork and ginger, apparently a winner.2 years later....Went back for food yesterday and LOVED IT, the menu is insanely good, and my vegan friend was over the moon, as was I, the service was on point and really really good, such a winner, would HIGHLY recommend to anyone!!!
Food: 5/5 - The food was delicious and just very light and great. Me and my friend had the potatoe truffle su gok, marinated silken tofu, MaPo box - comes with rice and sides. Go for it, if you want to taste simple yet interesting sole food.Desert: 5/5 - They have a unique selection of deserts, which taste and look fabulous. The deserts are well thought for the day and not to heavy. Definetly, worth the try!Atmosphere: 5/5 - A very cute and relaxing atmosphere. Calming music accompanies you, while you eat the delicious food. I went straight after the businesses opened and compared to other restaurants this one showed effort in there decoration, while keeping safety as there top priority.Customer service: 5/5 - The waitress was very nice, she did not rush us and gave us plenty of time. She give a paper menu to tick the items you want, so no unnecessary hassle.Price: 4/5 - The prices are reasonable, but only because we shared the items. They could definetly work on the prices of the items.Experience: Overall, my experience was great! I had no problem with this place. I just want to note that I did go when the restaurant was not busy. You can sit outside and enjoy a drink. It really depends what you enjoy on your palate but defenetly a place me and friend will be visiting soon!
Been wanting to go here for a long time but was sadly a bit underwhelmed. The lamb dumplings seems undercooked and doughy but the prawn dumplings were lovely. The pork belly was super fatty and both of us couldn’t really eat much of it. Cute interior but overall nothing to rave about sadly.
Cozy yet viby Japanese fusion restaurant with a pretty hipster/run down yet super cool bar serving delicious margaritas (and other spiritsdownstairs. Pretty unique spot as well with different levels and very decently priced. No reservations accepted but unless it’s raining and no capacity at the bar it’s usually more fun to have to wait a little bit for your table while sharpening your appetite and sipping a delicious cocktail. Very dog friendly too!
This place is great, great food and drinks. The dim sum was really really nice with a solid selection to pick from and also a few specials that are on a board by the kitchen. These specials m are normally something a little different but we’re really nice and well worth the try.You sit at shared long tables and benches, the place is very busy but there isn’t a long wait for food or drinks.Don’t think you can normally book but we managed it for a surprise birthday dinner (Only 5 of us).Seating outside at the front and also a down stairs about the back that is set in a garden type feel with a large toy train going around the tops of the rooms.Great drinks as they have a separate bar for cocktails etc.The for afters the desserts are lovey. This place is very much worth going to for great dim sum, drinks and a good price.
Cool and relaxed vibe with several rooms with different themes! The staff was very friendly and helpful! The food was really great! One of the best pork belly ever: super crispy! The ink crackers were very original and delicious! The dim sum were as a good as the best places in Chinatown!
Lovely restaurant and even more lovely bar but in general the experience is a bit - meh - average.I am intolerant to crustaceans so we ordered the scallop spinach dimsun which were unfortunately dry. The lamb and coriander ones were quite nice tho. The pork belly was rich and had a perfect texture but it was too salty. We also had the Korean ribs which were overcooked. Seemed like the people in the kitchen were too busy too keep the food standards up to the price - this place is quite pricey for the type of food they serve.Overall - disappointed.
Excellent. I am vegan and its heaven for delicious and tasty dim sum food. Every single dish is well thought and added with well selected herbs and grains. Sooo tasty. Many different rooms and a covered backyard/garden! First. Tine in my life that eating cucumber is tasty to me. Congrats. This place rocks
Just an amazing and quirky place serving the most stunning food.... Highly recommended, great service also. So accommodating, we arrived and the place was rammed and they managed to squeeze us in to their courtyard dining area which was fabulous.👍👍👍 Full marks guys 👍
Definitely a hidden gem, great vibe, excellent for a fun night out with a downstairs area where you can enjoy cocktails. The dumplings are tasty and you have a wide selection to choose from.It can be somewhere surprising to go for a date, the decor is enriched by colorful lanterns and its just a cheerful, lively little place with lots of character! I wouldnt say its cheap, but ... its London and ... would you really want to go to a cheap place anyways?
It was new years eve and the set menu was only £35! The two of us had 8 dishes. The food is to die for and I could swim in the sause that was smothered on the ribs. The service was amazing and great atmosphere. Perfect for a date place 👌 authentic and delicious!
Very nice food and nice venue, nice service, good taste and large assortment of Sake... BUT the portions cannot even be called portions and it’s totally too much expensive. In my opinion, try it if you can afford it, but one time is enough.
Would highly recommend it. We were a group of very hungry people and tried all the dumplings. They were all incredibly good. We also tried the pork belly, and ribs which I would highly recommend. The dessert was also a highlight, chocolate dumpling with vanilla ice cream and caramel, delicious. The place is a bit small with huge tables you share with everyone.
Love that there are so many interesting details in the interior design (have you noticed the running trains at the back of the colourful kitchen windows?, such cute little place. It somehow reminds me of New York. But anyway, the dim sum have a bit of English fusion (in a good way. We enjoyed most of the stuff: cha siu, courgette and wood ear dumplings and fish dumplings were our favourite. The roast aubergine was a bit meh, but all other food were very nice! The tea selection was very good and authentic as well. This place is an absolute gem in the area because (unfortunatelythere isnt other decent Chinese restaurant nearby. Staff were very friendly and nice, our courgette dumplings came late and they even offered to take them off the bill. 👍🏻please be mindful that it can get very busy and a bit loud after 7:30 pm so not the most ideal for going on a date(especially first date).
I love having dim sum in the weekends. This place was a welcome alternative and provided an interesting fusion between Japanese bar and Cantonese dining. The food is decent and the sake cocktails are tasty. The crowded seating is also befitting of the ad hoc nature of east London. The problem is the price, which I have a problem with all the pop up restaurants in London. For the Har Gau or Sui Mai to cost you £5.50, it sets its price in the bracket with the other top dim sum restaurants in London where the food, service and ambience are at a much higher quality. (Eg Royal China or Yauatcha). Im not sure why people would choose to squeeze on the wooden bench for food that can be cheaper and better in other restaurants- fun as it may be to dine here.I would recommend this place if the price is adjusted.
