Muzeul Național al Aviației Române - Museum in Mizil, Romania
This is a very nice museum that is quite young. It is only about 20 years old. The outside displays are still in need of restoration in some cases, but the displays inside the museum building are very well done.
There are helicopters, airplanes, ground vehicles, lots of fields and artillery pieces, and there is even a wooden church! The price is bargain basement and was definitely worth it. A lot of the outdoor stuff could use some maintenance, but it only makes for some more interesting photography.
Best experience that I had.I am an aviation collector, so what Ive seen here made me so happy, and I have learned so many things about Roman ian aviation history.I recommend this place to anyone that has a history and aviation passion.A very good place to also bring the kids here, they might want to become a pilot after seeing all the planes and helicopters.
Thank you for helping us 🇺🇦👍
Cute little museum inbetween the new modern offices. Some unique aircraft.
Wonderful renovated with little money. Great aircraft from all periods. Must see.
Good introduction in romanian aviation history.
Interesting piece of history. Planes not so well maintained. You should visit the inside expo as well. Recommend if youre passionate about planes
Well equipped museum with a good selection of romanian military planes. Outside area in need of some love but still worth the visit to see real fighter planes. Perfect for kids.
Really cool museum with lots of indoor and outdoor displays. There are helicopters, airplanes, ground vehicles, lots of fields and artillery pieces, and there is even a wooden church! The price is bargain basement and was definitely worth it. A lot of the outdoor stuff could use some maintenance, but it only makes for some more interesting photography.
Gives you the (probably correctimpression that Romanian aviation had basically two important periods: WW2 and the 70s/80s. Mild disrepair is everywhere, but thats par for the course in Romania.Nonetheless, there are enough exhibits to keep your interest, as long as you remember that this is specifically for the *military* air force - guns and bombs are key components.
Fantastic location filled with history!
There are a few planes and helicopters to see, but they are old and not well mantained, rust and time weighs heavily on them, especially because most of them are outside in the open. The hangars contain more exhibits that try to show a bit of the history of romanian aviators. Also the area around is not very well taken care of. For children is still an interesting experience.
The whole museum is a communist era artefact. It hasnt changed perceptibly. If you view it in this light, its worth visiting. Ive been taking my kid here dozens of times, hes asking me to come and look at rockets and planes. They have added a new exhibit in October 2020, a V2 rocket!
A little bit of military history but.. there is no guidance. Its worth to pay a visit if you would like to see MIG 29, MIG 21 and some older models on display
The museum is poorly maintained. You can see the lack of funds and it is quite sad to see how planes deteriorate. A part of the Romanian aviation history is slowly dying here.
This is a very nice museum that is quite young. It is only about 20 years old. The outside displays are still in need of restoration in some cases, but the displays inside the museum building are very well done.
The staff can be extremely rude at times, but the actual collection of planes is wonderful, and with there being so few visitors at any given time, youve often got the place all to yourself. Just be mindful of the extremely early closing hours - youll be told to get out of the main building a full hour before the museum actually closes.
A place u must see if u like aircrafts and engines. Entrance is for free but they take care more of this place becouse its a lot of history there to see and understand. Most parts are very old.
Plenty of IAR aircraft to see, plus Soviet era aircraft and weapons. Inside, you can see the history of Romanian aviation. Extra payment for photography
A must see for any aviation enthusiast. A lot of the planes are in bad shape but some are in excellent shape. The museum inside is good but unfortunately for us none-Romanian speakers the placards are almost only in Romanian.
Boring for me, but I guess its cool for the ones who want to know more about the history of aviation.
Well worth the visit, some items stored outside are suffering but overall it was very interesting. My favorite was the MIG 29 prototype...
Amazing place to visit!Very interesting.
Quite cool, second Romanian military museum Ive been to in Romania, theres a naval one in Constanta. Ive you wanna go there to learn how an airplane works, youre in the wrong place, museums about history of aviation and flight in Romania.
The exposition is somehow lightweight, of course the museum is rather new in its existence. A lot of Soviet stuff with a bit of rust
Ive been there and I am very grateful that there still are people who go to work for the joy that they bring to the children. You can see there all sorts of aircrafts in better or worst shape depending on their age and various other factors. The personnel is heroicly resisting in the heat (we were there in a hot summer day). I hope that the next time Im there I will find everything improved! There is a beautiful piece of our history.
In simple terms the outdoor items are falling apart due weather wear and tear. The indoor exhibits are good and as you through the building you will be surprised the size and depth of the building. Not much in the English translation but planes tell a lot. For a museum the indoor exhibits are very good. But the outdoor looks like a scrap yard or dumping ground for old decommissioned equipment. Worth a look but do not expect miracles. For what you pay it is fair.
Its beautiful and you can learn a lot about Romanias airplanes history.
Interesting Old museum with a range of old planes (MIGsfrom WW2 (and not onlythat needs a larger place for a proper exibition of those. We have a history also in aviation and we need to share this with the people. I just found out, visiting the museum, that we had womens in aviation and mens that were pioneers frying a certain type of plane. Why this is not shared in local news..?!? This museum is also not known to the public. Its not so great as the museums in other countries but he exists and needs investments to continue to exist. The planes from outside area are left to die, needs a little paint. They are lovely to see, and must confess that i didnt saw those in other museums from around the world. Some new helicopters outside that we see also at Bias. Worth to mention that some of the explanations are also in english. What is inside hangar needs english translation, because the info is very interesting, explaining a day in live of an aviator. It will help if the museum would have some interactive parts..maybe leave the simulators to be touched and tried by the public. Also, not only the planes needs explanation, you can add other interesting facts, stories from the military and aviation personnel.
You can see here helicopters, fighter jets and old memorabilia connected to aviation history. There are 2 large hangars in which the exhibits are well kept, the stuff that is kept outside could use a new repainting. You can easily spend an hour or two here. Worth a visit if you can get there, its a bit off the beaten track for tourists. This time off the year its open from 9 to 15:30 with 14:30 last entry. Tickets cost 10 Ron for adults and half for children, the soldier at the gate said my daughter could enter free of charge.
They have some very interesting aircraft, but they need to be restored and properly displayed. It seems to be like a communist era museum. Needs to be more interactive. Needs a coffee shop and a gift shop. Great potential for a very attractive museum but investment is needed.
Excellent place to take your kids (at least 6yofor a nice afternoon.
Nice to visit for aviation lovers or children. My favourite place is the indoor hangar and alley, that resembles a vintage street.
Verey nice and well provided museum, relatively to most important of the flying objects and equipments, that served for Romanian Air Forces in the second half of 1900 and not only. It will be some interesting experience for any technical, military or history enthusiast or professional staff. The museum are including two sections, (in and outthat spreads on huge area. Are presented here entire military aircrafts, that you can touch and observe closely, entirely racket complexes and so on. Also, the in side section are including an exhibition of Romanian air history from the origins, were you can watch and study the Romanian contribution to aircraft development (surprisingly greats. Here you will find a model of the first jet engine ever ( H. Coandă 1905), some of Vuia models, disassembled jet and propelled engines, etc. The museum are children friendly due to the wide area, and it is located in the interior of the Institute for Jet Fuel Test and Research. The ticket price are approx 3 EUR, and some of the guidance personal are retired military that will tell real life story about the exhibited materials.
Nice place to spend an afternoon with the family. Interesting both inside and outside. There is no place to buy beverages or snacks or souvenirs. Too bad.
Interesting to visit with the kids.Half is in the open air, lots of rusty planes and trucks.Makes the day for the small ones.
Not taken care of....old stuff placed in one single location, without a narrative to build a visitors experience
If you want to take pictures you need to pay extra, its in a military facility an you are restricted to visiting only some areas and they could take better care of the museum (especially planes outside the hangar). Overall it was a cool experience, you can see MiG-17, 19, 21, 29, IAR 80, a Vlaicu II replica and many WW2 and cold wae fighter planes.
A snapshot of the Romanian Air Force history, the museum features many types of aircraft, some of them unique. The actual location does not allow for large aircraft to be brought and displayed, which is a pitty. The museum needs a major restoration program and maybe that will include a large aircraft secion, located on one of the major airports in Bucharest. The wooden church is underwhelming.Definitely the museum is worth visiting.
Interesting information about history of Aviation, especially about the romanian contributors!
Lots of planes, very interesting location. The museum needs improvement, but in its way, it adds a nice vibe to the city.
On the outside, there isnt much to see although there is a number of flying machines displayed. One must read the description tables to get more interesting information. On the inside, visitors are walked through the history of Romanian civil and military aviation and it is quite fascinating for the little ones and not only. It is quite, not so many people around, clean and spacious.
I liked the arrangements inside the museum, how it showed the planes, the pilots, snapshots of those events; it even had a corner with daily life of pilots and a display of a couple in a cafe shop. it was definitely with it!
Lovely. My son was very happy to meet the characters from Disneys Planes.
Planes are awesome. Regardless of how old they are or what types they are. The museum has a lot of USSR planes starting with MiG 17 up to MIG 29 as well as romanian planes from WW2 and post WW2 (IAR 93 is one if them). They are poorly kept though. The planes are in open air exposed to the weather and they begun to rust. You can also see anti aircraft weaponry from the communist era, helicopters and utility planes. Very disappointing that they don;t have an AN2. The interior museum is very decent and well organized. Highly recommend you to visit this underrated museum.
The museum closes at 18:00 durig summer, just so you know!Edit*** : it closes at 14:00 during the summer, till september
A strange and musty old museum, on my two visits I was the only person there, a lady came round with me and turned the lights on and off. Lots of old planes, the IAR 81 in the main hanger was the main attraction for me. Outside there is a yard full of old eastern block fighters, not well looked after, and a few anti-aircraft guns that my kids loved and climbed all over, traversing and elevating the barrels and defending Bucharest against an alien invasion!
Very good good and comprehensive, if you manage not to be seen by a guard you can even climb into the engines of a MiG-29.In case you want to see the canopies from inside Id advise bringing a wire cutter.
Great collection of MIG fighter jets! MIG 15, 17, 19, 21 and 29 and many other aircraft. Most pictures on google maps show only the un-restored planes that are kept outside. Inside there are many carefully restored MIGs and other early aircraft. Go soon, their website states they are under threat from the Romanian government to close. I have worked 4 years in Bucharest only one block from the museum and did not know it existed! It was like stepping back in time to the Cold War. Check it out!
