Calle Las Damas, Santo Domingo 10210, Dominican Republic, Monte Plata
These Spanish government offices dating to the 1500s now function as a museum of colonial history.
Super nice place! Well maintained
A nice museum. They van improve on the information and facts on the artifacts. Sometimes the descriptions seemed incomplete.
Try not to skip this place. Its very cheap to get in. Stollers are allowed for babies. Headset is included in your ticket. 100 DOP i think it was. Enjoy the harbor views from upstairs.
Amazing how much information and artifacts exist from history!
There is a small entrance fee.
Must place if in santo domingo - very wide range of historical pieces from various centuries
Alot of history and knowledge
Beautiful place and lot of history, make me feel in that I was in 1600 hundreds.
This museum contains artifacts and other historical exhibits on Santo Domingo from 1492 to 1821
Good only if you are not in a tourist group.
Very good place to understand the history of the area
Very beautiful museum.
Great experience, no AC til the end of it but good history lesson
Avery detailed oriented design. Great information about the history and culture of DR. Its only about 125 pesos or $2 to get in. The only negative thing was the airpods with recordings were not working, thankfully we had a friend who gave us the tour.
This majestic stone building housed the administrative offices of the Spanish colonies in the Americas and also served as the treasury and residence of the governors and generals. Was the place of important meetings and parties attended by prominent figures of colonial society. This colonial building has undergone a series of change throughout the history of the country and was instituted as a museum that offers an informative look at the history and culture of Hispaniola.
What a hidden gem!!! We look forward to returning and spending more time!!
Tells in great detail the history of the Dominican Republic and the colonial era. Many of the displays are in Spanish but there are employees who can answer your questions.
Amazing to know that this was the place where governors sent to Hispaniola led the island. Also, this place was our presidential house until Trujillo built the National Palace
As a Dominican, Im sorry and ashamed of the mistreatment and undermining that the authorities or responsible of the museum has paid treated it with. Its almost 5 centuries old.
Museum for everyone who was 1 Time in dominicana. In museum you will get informator about kolumb, sugar etc.
Lots of history to explore with the audio guide. Beautiful patio.
Love the amount of history shown in this place, the tour guides are really funny and knowledgeable.
Stately historic building and great museum!
Thought it would be a great part of our excursion, turns out it was hot and boring because I already knew everything.
Really important and historical people are here.
It was awesome. They had some cool artifacts there. The museum is actually inside of a fort.
It houses a number of interesting artifacts, but most of the explanatory signs are in Spanish only. Still worth the $2 entry, though
Very interesting museum
True history but not too much to see. A tour guide nok, asking continuously for dineros!
Great way to spend an hour in the colonial zone. Only $2 US and includes audio guide in many languages
Very cultural place with lot of history...
Such a wonderful place, full of knowledge and history, weapons and body amours as well as medicine and items from the edge that once belonged to the colons family, everything is well preserved and you can read and learn about everything around... Is just beautiful.
Wow! This piece of history is amazing!! Such a privilege to be able to visit this place❤️
Really interesting place, I enjoyed the weapon collection and the Japanese stuffs that they had. Its really accessible and if you want to know about the colonial city you need to go there.
The story told within these walls are just amazing, dig in to the details and enjoy. Make sure to get a guided tour otherwise you may be left out of many details.
The tour guide was funny and provided a lot of good historical facts
This was my favorite museum in the Colonial Zone. It explained the early history of Santo Domingo and the Spanish conquest of the New World. On the second floor you can find the governors office, the royal court and loads of artifacts.
Lots of historical artifacts, some dating from the time of the colony. Interesting for history buffs, but small kinds may find it boring.
This was one of the stops of our Santo Domingo day trip and it was my favorite part of the entire excursion. Our group split between two guides - one in Spanish and the other in English. Our guide from the museum was very detailed in his presentation and clearly very passionate about the different pieces in the collection.Im not sure what the cost of entry would be on its own but I would highly recommend making time to stop by this museum.
Awesome experience! Great tour, cheap!! 100 Pesos per person
Very educative. Go with enough time in your hands to fully enjoy the museum, about 1 hour
Lot of history! Definitely a must see place. So much information about the whole island and visual history of the Dominican Republic and Haiti which were together “Española” in those times. I got a chance to go in and take some pictures; let’s just say I was in a place of amazement! Gotta go back and take more pictures! Loved it!!
It was a cool house. The audio guide was underwhelming.
Very informative museum. A quick history lesson on the post-1492 Americas and Hispaniola. Although I would recommend adding more display information in English other than the audio guide (in English but embedded with heavy Spanish-only quotes which are hard to understand). Sorry maybe I should learn some more Spanish!
For a native Spaniard, it was interesting to see landmarks of the American "discovery" in reality -compared to what we learn from books.
Great display of historical artifacts, very reasonable admission
Beatiful structure, take a pick if you are near by.
A lot of history in this place of different culture it those contains pieces of the aboriginal community in the Caribbean. I like the way is set up and there is local guide that go though the sugar cane history the slave and the tools used in Thai industry during that time. I like it. Good to take your family
Great attraction to visit in Santo Domingo.
Great museum with a lot of history within.
