Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil - Museum in Pyrgos, Greece
Very informative and interesting! Especially the part about how the making of olive oil advanced through the ages, and the diagram about what else could be made from each part of the olive tree
Great information and artifacts used previously, as well as other information about Esparta
Interesting history of the olive tree and how it was used for more than just oil.
One of the best places weve visited. Nice museum, full of interesting information about olive oil history. Definitely you should not miss it!
Passed by and said to my wife, "Lets go in!" Sure glad we did! Laerned a lot about the history of olives, especially as relates to the ancient games
Very nicely presented museum showing the history of olive production through the ages, with clear and informative explanations
The history of olives. A must see museum.
Very interesting and informative visit. Learned a lot about olive oil.
Very nice experience to know the different types of Olive Oil
This is a wonderful museum where you can learn all about the history of olive-growing in Greece, as well as the uses and processing of olives (to eat, oil, and other products). Several short films in Greek with English subtitles. All information in both Greek and English makes understanding what you’re seeing easy. The small working models downstairs are delightful and outside in the open air area you can see life-size examples of the olive pressing equipment over the years.Small gift shop. Friendly and welcoming staff. If you are interested in olives and olive oil, don’t miss this little gem!
Very informative and the layout was spacious. Good entry price and friendly staff.
I wont visit again. You can get the same information from public sources, too.
Really nice, cozy, friendly and informative museum. A little jem.
This museum starts at the beginning of the olive and takes you on a journey to modern times.
Very informative stop for the history of olive oil pressing through the decades
A modern, perfectly formed museum that explores the history and importance of olive oil in Greece, along with the evolution of its manufacturing process. I recommend to allow at least 30minutes to go through the museum. :)
Beautiful museum with a very friendly owner. Interesting stuff all around the place. So an huge recommendation if you are nearby.
This is a comprehensive museum and has a very reasonable entrance fee. The building is modern and beautiful and the outside exhibits well maintained. You can buy a huge block og olive oil soap for €5.
4 eur per person. Free parking nearby. Very interesting museum. You can buy olive soap there.
This place was great. They let us store our bags behind the front desk, while we walked around. Most of the exhibit is just text panels, however it is set up in a pretty sensible way.No oil for sale in the gift shop unfortunately.
Informative and covers a lot of different aspects of the olive history and uses
Informative museum...they could add an olive tasting to make it even more enjoyable and for people to see how the tastes vary.
I could not stop seeing signs pointing to this place as I was travelling around the Peloponesse and honestly... It was worth the hype! Its kind of a niche museum but for those interested it takes you through the process and history of olives and olive oil production in Greece. Its pretty interesting and kinda fun to see considering youre not gonna find anything like this anywhere else around Sparta or the wider Peloponnesean area. Definetly worth a visit if youre in Sparta, especially considering theres not a lot else to do in Sparta anyway.
Interesting history of olive (oil), but not really worth the visit. A small brochure will tell you everything.Maybe good place to cool down on the heat for half an hour?
This lovely museo provides information of long history and use of olives and oil. I was amazed how many olive varieties there was and each for different purposes. Also the making of soap interested me a lot.
Nice to see olive oil technology.
The best attraction in the city. So many interesting facts about olives. Must visit. Only the gift shop should be richer.
Very interesting and modern museum, really worth visiting!
It is a very good and different museum that tel the history of olive with artifacts a very good information and exhibition of models how is and how was the production of the olive oil during the history
Pretty awesome museum. One of the highlights of the town. Sadly. But you will get the know everything about olives and the oil. I loved the AC they had cos it was very hot that day and in the museum the temperature is low. Great!• Did you know why people are awarded with 🏆 cups? I didn’t till I visited this museum. It’s connected with ancient games (Olympic or soand the winner gets cup full of the best olive oil = a lot of money in ancient times.• and many more other interesting stuff to find in that museum.
Been there twice, I always feel the greatness of this museum. It represents the story of my hometown for economic survival. Pretty extraordinary place.
Very well structured museum about olives and the economical relevance and how they are processed. If you are in Sparta —> must see
Well designed, modern, entertaining and high informative museum for all ages. Worth a visit, for almost all ages - only for very small kids maybe not so interesting
Great museum about one of the central pillars of greek and middeterean culture. The information is plenty both for those new to the olive industry as well as for those who want advanced information. I especially enjoyed the various build to scale applications and the moving miniatures depicting various methods of producing olive oil throughout the ages.
A small modern museum devoting itself to olives. You feel you know everything there is to know about olives, growing them, their uses etc when you have finished the tour! The exhibits are really nicely presented with lots of photos and graphics. The only thing that I would have liked to have seen was a tasting. They say they produce the best olive oil in the world so why could they not let us taste it?
A great museum in the heart of the city and a great opportunity to explore the olive history. I highly recommend visiting the museum in case you be in Sparta.
All these museums of Piraeus Bank are excellent. In particular, for foreign tourists, their visit is a must, if they want to know the evolution and industrial development of Greece!
The Museum of Olive and Greek Olive Oil located in Sparta belongs to the Museum Network of the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation. It is housed in the site of the old Electricity Company, the use of which was granted to the Foundation by the Municipality of Sparta. The project was integrated into the Peloponnese Regional Operational Program and funded by the 2nd and 3rd Community Support Framework.
Interesting and informative.. well air conditioned.. polite and friendly staff.. nice cafe.. the models are works of art.. a nice couple of hours spent.. we liked and recommend...Extremely interesting museum if you like olives and olive oil. Very nice and well equipped and maintained building, with rather educated and helpful stuff.
Not good. Looks like theres some interactive machines to help you understand how the machines made the olives, however they didnt let you touch anything. Very boring. Save your money.
Extremely interesting museum if you like olives and olive oil. Very nice and well equipped and maintained building, with rather educated and helpful stuff.
If one wants to be informed about the cultivation of olive trees and the production of olive oil inGreece through the ages, this is the place to visit. The information is well presented, the material is not overwhelming and there is a nice Flow through the exhibition spaces. The architecture of the building helps a lot in this. A very charming Cafe in the small courtyard is next to several olive trees of different varieties. But the information signs next to them need to be redone in order to belegible.
Mostly hanging sheets of information, follow the numbers etc. Well worth understanding the background to olive trees and the oil produced. We went out of season but it looks like you can buy from their little shop. Outside there are some original presses and an explanation of six trees. We went across the road to the ’300’ shop to purchase some lovely olive oil and you can taste it too. A couple of videos are interesting. Well worth the few euros entrance fee.
Excellent museum to know about olive pressing installations
Excellent museum with historical and practical sections. It also helps you understand how the olive oil production methods evolved over the centuries.
Very interesting for adults and children. It took app. 1.5h to visit and understand the importance of Olive for Greeks and other mediterranean countries.
Very interesting and very well organized. You start learning about the history and then you see the process and how it evolved over the years. I only wish that there were a tasting area at the end where you can taste different olives and oils. Or at least a shop but unfortunately they do not.
Beautitul museum dedicated to the tree of olive. Modern exhibition, with historical and educational information, regarding the production and the usage of olive from the ancient years until now. Both indoor and outdoor exhibition space, a gift shop, mini market with olive products and a cafe exist at the museum. The time i visited it, there was also a small interesting archeological exhibition. The entrance is 3 euros for adults.
Very informative, tells you everything you need to know about olive growing in Greece throughout the ages, but it does more telling than showing. It could do with a tasting olives and olive oil. Even the museum cafe did not offer olive based products.
The olive oil industry in Greece explained into great detail, past & present. Excellent information from several angles, with demonstration of oil press & grinders. Must see, well worth the time.
