A small museum that sometimes felt crowded, theyve assembled a strong collection of movie and TV items to display. You get to see the history of the industry and theres a lot of interactive elements. Its a fun place to spend a rainy afternoon.

Cannot recommend this museum enough! So informative, tons of hands-on exhibits (with sanitizer present!), and permanent collection pieces that are just phenomenal. So well curated and produced. Looking forward to visiting again in the future!

My husband and I had the worst experience at this museum . We wanted to have a family trip with our daughter which quickly got shut down. My daughter is 7 months old and they first told us we couldn’t bring our stroller. After that we out her stroller back in the car , then we can back in and they told us we couldn’t bring our BABIES formula in. I found this outrageous. She’s an infant. He said if I need to feed her to go back out to get her food. Never again will go back to this place .

Nice quiet place. Walking Dead exhibition was nice, alot of memories of past seasons.Only part I didnt like was bag/coat check. Not a fan of leaving my personal items in someone elses care. Nothing inside was valuable but just me (and fear of any creepy crawlers hitching a ride). When you go, for whatever exhibition, take your time walking through, visit the other floors.Enjoy yourself.

The space is a fascinating one, with focus on everything from the evolution of the technology to the artistry behind your favorite films. The Jim Henson exhibit was a surprise I wasnt expecting and I could have spent most of the day in that section alone. The Walking Dead exhibit is must-see for any fan of the franchise. The museum wasnt overly air conditioned and it felt humid and muggy when we went on a 90degree day. The staff was a little stand offish but never rude. Certainly a must visit place for anyone who loves film and television.

A lot of fun! Love the Jim Henson exhibit, you feel like youre entering a nostalgic world of muppets! They even have a small movie theater inside the museum which was super cool. So much to see including trippy visuals, abstract art, short films and more! Fun place to take friends and family.

Loved this place, definitely my favorite museum I went to in NYC being a pop culture nerd. Give yourself at LEAST 2 hours to go through if you want to really see everything and experience it all. Tickets were very reasonable and it wasnt super busy in there on Friday evening. Its better to buy them ahead of time online.

This is my 3rd favorite museum! I love it so much, went on a Thursday (which is free), the exhibits were very cool and informative and fun. Its free on Thursday from 2-6pm but it had to close early for a private event, I wish it was known on the website.

Absolutely love this museum. If youre a cinema and overall media fan, then this is the place for you! However, what I especially love about the Museum of the Moving Imagine is the selection of movie screenings. The variety is vast so make sure to check their website. I recently checked out a series of short films by silent film star Buster Keaton. It was a treat!

This is a lovely museum with plenty of interactive exhibits that are fun for children and adults alike. MoMI takes you through a comprehensive timeline of film and TV history, displaying AV equipment through the ages, and even giving you the opportunity to use certain equipment, like the ADR studio. The Jim Henson exhibit was a highlight, and it was really cool getting to see props from some of my favorite films. They also have a beautiful movie theater on site where they play old movies throughout the day. We will definitely make a return visit!

Great place to spend an afternoon. Compared to other museums, it’s on the small side. Still, for movie lovers, it’s a fun spot to check out. They have a few interactive exhibits that, on busy days, require quite the wait. Also, their gift shop is one of my favorites.Free admission every Thursday from 2pm-6pm & Free admission for NYC Teachers with valid ID.

A museum focused on the history of cinema and media. Its recommended that you make a ticket reservation online as there are dedicated time slots. Tickets were $15, so very reasonably priced.Youll find an array of exhibits that span quite a long period and over several genres of media. Whether its Jim Hensons Muppets or Star Wars, theres a rotating set of exhibits for different pieces. Its highly recommended to plan ahead and see what new exhibit is coming along at the time you want to go.

A good spot to get out of the cold and entertained for a few hours. Just small enough to not be overwhelming but just large enough to be worth it. Very child friendly; very well organized for COVID, etc.

This museum seems small in terms of square footage but there are so many cool things to see (and do). Moving images span both movies and television so the exhibits span both. There was a Jim Henson exhibit when I went, and its definitely worth seeing. It explores all his creations from The Muppets to Sesame Street to movies like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. Im so glad I visited.

It was a cute museum for something fun to do on a rainy day but I honestly expected more for the $15 per adult admission fee. It seems they have some exhibits under construction though so maybe they will have more to see in the future. If you are a film lover you will love to see all the history and film memorabilia they have on display, as well as the old televisions and video cameras. There is a large exhibit dedicated to Jim Henson and the muppets/sesame street. Overall had a fun time, just wish there were more exhibits for the admission price.

Great museum! We had so much fun! The third floor has many interactive exhibits, and we could try recording voices, stop motion animation, soundtrack picking, Foley art. Great way to learn and have fun at the same time. The second level has an incredible Jim Henson exhibit- so much nostalgia. Honestly, incredible. Worth it to visit when youre in the city! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for something fun, but not super touristy.

Loved it! The Jim Henson exhibit brought back so many memories. They had all the muppets, sesame street, and the dark crystal puppets on display. On the 3rd floor they had the 2001 Space Odyssey replicas. Probably the most nostalgic Ive ever felt about a museum.

Great place to visit, its usually an interactive museum but, due to COVID-19, you can only look at the items. Overall, five stars, its a great place if you are into movies and television. Bathrooms are on site for visitors. The food court and museum shop are currently closed due to COVID-19. And, there is a theater on the premises. You should buy your tickets ahead of time. Also, there is an elevator that goes from floor to floor for each exhibit.

Went to the Museum of the Moving Image earlier today, specifically to the Jim Henson exhibition. It wasnt a particularly big exhibition, but the stuff that was there was super interesting and in excellent condition. I became a Muppets/Henson fan an adult, when I was a kid I was never into them. Nevertheless, I got a little misty-eyed in front of Kermit (it was friggin Kermit the Frog, right there in front of me! I would have bawled my eyes out had the Rainbow Connection been playing in the background).

The Jim Henson exhibit is amazing! So much cool stuff from his career. The rest of the museum is also worth looking at. Wish they had a bit more (I believe they’re in the process of adding in another exhibit on the 3rd floor though).

A last min plan to visit The Museum Of Moving Image turned out to be a pleasant laid back afternoon. Pre-covid possibly would’ve rated higher. The Jim Jenson exhibit really was cool, decades of puppetry, tv, vintage toys, and the story behind it all. Except for some vintage throwback arcade games you can purchase tokens for that were pretty awesome, none of the interactive exhibits were open. The cafe was not open, nor the shop, which made for some of the “shut down” feelings we are all pretty much over. There was a muppet movie section, where you walk into a mock theater. the setting and decor were great, only I could not escape the musty and strange smells as I walked downstairs through a cool looking corridor which led to a room with a projector and seats. I couldn’t stay long cause the smell was too much for me. Unfortunately, it made question the cleanliness of a dark space. There was not too much to see, but the current exhibits included vintage TV such as Star Trek, Dinosaurs, and the Simpsons are well worth the visit.

You know what! I was crazy to know about New York City famous hunter place, and don’t know why bring me to know this amazing museum, which was the reason to visit. But I didn’t see any ghost for sure😂!I was surprised and had very special experience in here, you can see a lot of details how people they made the idea to become the real stuff and bring in the moving images or movies. That’s really amazing how those people to build their image to this world. And also in here you will see the most famous scared movie character still “sit” in this museum! This is a really good place to visit, also good for children come to visit, third floor have many great equipments that children can try and experience with their parents. I love this place! Im 40 years old and lived in NY all my life. My first time at the Museum of the Moving Image. It was great! So many cool things! We saw the Dark Crystal Exhibit (Temporary Exhibit, I believe). My favorite part was the Jim Henson area with Sesame Street and Muppets Characters. We had a great time. Went on a Saturday afternoon, it was not too crowded.

Never heard about the Museum of the Moving Image, and went there for a private event. The neighborhood was nice and easy to find parking nearby. This museum gave me a feeling like MOMA, Museum of Modern Art. Very special architectural design, great lobby and great exhibitions. They even have a tremendous Hall that capable to seat almost 200 hundred people with big screen and stage. They also have a nice backyard and prefect for happy hour and mingling. Good choice to rent for a private event and much more interesting than those catering hall or banquet places.

Intriguing museum if you appreciate film through the ages. On Fridays from 4pm-8pm admission is free and there is free bag check. We visited straight from the airport on the way into the city. There is currently a Jim Henson exhibit. They have some very cool artifacts from various film sets and they cover several film jobs that bring a script to life.

It is a very nice place. The Jim Henson exhibit is amazing and brings me back to my childhood. The games and the cameras also show you how much as a society we have evolved and how I can do all of that and more with a little piece of metal in my pocket. A very good museum to visit. Good for kids because there are a lot of games on the 3rd floor.

I hadnt known much about the Museum of the Moving Image before I visited, but once inside I pretty much spent the next couple of hours with wide eyes staggering around like a sugar-high toddler yelling, "OH COOL!". If you were born/raised anytime in the last century there are things in the museum that will spark long-forgotten memories. I dont want to give away the whole farm, but The Jim Henson Exhibit alone is enough to make most people regress to childhood. Well worth the visit to Astoria. Enjoy.

This museum had everything you could want. History, interaction, so innovative. We thoroughly enjoyed the different stages of production as well as background into Jim Henson. It was interesting to learn how my favourite childhood program was done. It was fun trying puppeteering. Its harder than it looks. Seeing behind the scenes was insightful. We often take for granted all the work that goes into a tv program especially one with puppets. So it was nice to see.Fridays 4pm-8pm is free and it is worth it! Totally enjoyable experience. We used the 4 hours to get totally immersed in everything!

My favorite museum in NY. The pieces in this museum are so interesting and you learn so much about the TV and film industry. You feel like a kid walking around seeing makeup and costumes worn by stars from various films. The museum is also interactive and also plays movies. The Jim Henson exhibit is a must see for anyone visiting the city. Visiting this place never gets old. Each time you go you discover something new. Great to bring your kids or a fun date!
