Place André Audinot, 80200 Péronne, France, Amiens
Modern museum, designed by Ciriani, telling the story of WWI with civilian & military artifacts.
Vast amount of items for you to look at, very informative
Spent an enjoyable 3 hrs in here, it will help to understand how and why the war started and the massive sacrifice all sides made.
It is very. Interesting and thought provoking.
Extraordinarily well presented WWI museum. Spacious yet harmonic, with a wide selection of artefacts, paintings, posters and digital contents. Uniforms and military paraphernalia are carefully curated. In addition, the venue is a restored and extended chateau, which makes the visit even more rewarding. A hidden gem.
Well presented very interesting.
Museum was alright, but clearly isn’t in touch with the war anymore. After thousands of South Africans lost their lives in this war, no mention was made in the movies of the numbers of the casualties of this nation next to the French, British, Australian, ect. soldiers. Hope they improve again
Probably better than the imperial War museum if you like WW1 history. Great interactive screens to show the progress (or lack of itof the war. Great examples of uniform, equipment and personal items. All information translated into French, German and English. Nice grounds and a castle with a lot of history. Good value €25 for a family ticket.
Walking through history of world war I, ery nice but sad place
A great museum with a large number and selection of artifacts well laid out.
So impressed with the non-partisan messaging for the displays and exhibits.
Classic museum. Look but dont touch.Nice venue.
Helpful staff, free carparking, multi languages, exhibitions are top class.
Ive been here twice now and its pretty good. Seems like the multimedia displays have issues each time I go there though. The displays of uniforms all laid out nicely on the floor are nice.
The highlights were Otto Dixs graphical work, depicting the horrors of the trenches. Five stars! And then the movie at the entrance, going through, summing up the patchwork of alliances and unions of countries, kingdoms, states that existed / made up a very different picture of the Europe we know now. Interesting! The rest resampled a motley collection of uniforms and curiosities.
Fantastic museum, great displays , lots of information, clean toilets
Absolutely brilliant museum, well worth a visit.
Lovely museum, lots of interesting artifacts and a good time libe. Very informative film of the conflict. Good history of the castle as well
Lots of great displays and interactive features
I found the building in which the Museum is based more interesting than the Museum itself. The cafe was closed when we were here (not mentioned on the entrance sign, its being rebuild), and interactive displays were turned off due to Covid, including VR headsets, bit strange since in the Verdun Museum, similar headsets were active and cleaned. Was hoping to see a bit more interesting stuff, but felt more like a library, lot of empty spaces and no character. Boring imo.
Modern well laid out displays with a good balance of exhibits from both sides in the war. Interesting array of uniforms and arms. The cafe overlooks a fishing lake and with a pleasant walk around.
Top museum, only a pity it is closed on a wednesday, and not on the typical monday closing day, as is customary for museums. Otherwise, a must see, which validates a detour to the sleepy town of Péronne. There is a free parking next to the museum. The museum is situated immediately next to the town center, so having a good meal in one of the restaurants is just a walk away.
An excellent series of exhibits charting the historical origins of WW1 and the events of that war, with highly personalized examples of uniforms, armaments and personal vignettes of participants and their families. Very moving & educational for those of all ages. Recommended
Very informative... Beautiful set-up
Nice museum. Can be done in about an hour to an hour and a half. Details are in French, English and German. There are around the museum is great for a picnic.
Very informative but emotionally challenging.
Expected many uniforms and other artifacts from 1st world war but the exhibition especially impressed me with a good portion of information and items to get an understanding of the European countries shortly before the war.
very well done, if a bit word dense, ww1 museum. fantastic display of different equipment and uniforms juxtaposed with propaganda posters and art from all parties involved.
Not the biggest museum Ive been too but I did find the 3D map of the World War 1 battles in the area very interesting. So worth it just for that. The various kit and uniform layouts was good too.
The museum has a modern set up , so more telling the story of the conflict with interactive displays and personal items . The film at the start was excellent and you can choose the following languages French, English, German and Dutch (the only problem is it plays the selected language, difficult if someone choose a language you dont understandside note pay attention to the warning before watching the reconstructive surgery videos. They are not for the squeamish.
An homage to the Great War. The video available before the Reception Desk was an informative recap of the events in WWI. The artifacts lining the walls were facinating.Took about 1.5 hours to get through the museum.
Fantastic and very informative museum on the Great War. The displays are very well done with good information panels. Very recommended.
I thought that this museum presented bot sides of the conflict very well and fairly. There were many things explained to me about the every soldier, that I just did not know. Thanks for a great visit.
wonderfully laid out and very touching
It is a good museum for familys and children. It never gets too bloody (except for the part by the german painter...hush hush kidsand it has a good storyline and explains many things in a way which is easy to understand.WW1 nerds and techfreaks will probably miss some hardware and more tactically orientated storyline. They can take it as a supplement to other places ,and enjoy the exhibitions of uniforms plus gear. The museum-shop has a lot of cartoons (plus books and stuffabout the great war in French.
Superb memorial, tells the background of the great war in context to world at the time. Very interesting, could have spent a day there, there is so much to see.
For me, this was not an engaging museum somehow. Very modern. Displays of uniforms/ weapons set into the floor as focal points. Lots of WW1 posters to view. I enjoyed a display of the work of a German artist from the trenches. Very dark. I found myself more informed and engaged by the 14-18 museum near Lens or the Paschaendale Museum near Ypres/Zonnebeke.
Museum in the heart of the Somme which had invested in touchscreen technology to describe the stuff I display However it wasnt good for the kids (aged 4-14as they couldnt interact with any exhibits (eg. Like a trench experience).
Modern museum showing the carnage that was WWI. Strange with the manikins lying down. Like all good museums loads to see and read about. Can quite easily be visited a couple of times.
Superb displays. Right on the original front line.
Museum was ok. Descriptions were in French, English and German. But a some of the items were repetitive and a lot had no description. I would suggest going to the actual sites in the neighborhood.
Well done exhibit and I learned a lot about ww1. Its harder to find good ww1 museums because theres a lot of focus on ww2.
This is a very impressive Museum attached to a equally impressive fortification. It would have been nice to be able to explore more of the ancient fortification itself but the museum is well laid out and well set up to learn about the first world war and its effects on the area. There are exhibits about the older history of the area as well
Really great museum. Loved how the whole kit and equiptment was layed out to see the differences between forces. More interactive stands in different languages would improve as most were french only.
Awesome museum!
This is an excellent museum. The English language film at the beginning of the museum is so good. It briefly explains everything about WW1 in a way that even a child could understand. The museum is also very good. It has lots to see. There is also another film that is about the Battle of the Somme but you need to check with reception when it is shown in English if you need it. We bought a combined ticket with the Thiepval museum about 25 minutes away. It was good value €10. There is a small cafe in the Peronne museum and the town is quite pleasant to visit.
It was okay - gave a some historical background to the war and the small section of war art was interesting. Otherwise little to differentiate it from other ww1 museums or visitor centres in the area.
I found this place informative and with good displays. The only thing I didnt like was a museum Helper from the museum opening the display case and letting the public try on and take selfies in the British French and German war helmets .I had been to visit my grandfather who had been buried in a local Commonwealth war cemetery for a hundred years so I found this practice in the museum of trying on the war helmets and taking selfies in bad taste and disrespectful as if making light of the war especially after seeing a film at the museum on buring the dead in mass graves
Layout off displays is not the best, many interactive displays were not working. Some exhibits lacked any information. But overall worthwhile visiting Id you are in the area.
Well worth a look. Recommend it takes about 2 hours to walk around the 3 main exhibit rooms to see it in full (which includes a 30min movie).
Incredible Museum. Its relatively small size does not reflect the exhibits which are on display. Its collection includes unique artifacts which I had only seen in books and had assumed perished. Go out of your way to visit it if in the vicinity.
