Museum of world culture with changing exhibitions, film & music, plus kids' exhibits & guided tours.
Wow! This place is excellent for toddlers - our 2 year old had THE BEST time. Lots of interactive exhibitions, focused on people and different cultures across the world. Great way to spend a few hours on a rainy day. And its free entry
Exhibits on top floor drive home the effects of our consumption on traditional cultures. Very nice lightning throughout.
Its okay. Was a small museum to me . Just contain of 4 or 5 floors one of them the exhibition and others for service. Also it is free ( No ticket)
Really great museum with lot of lessons to be learnt from anyone! Free entrance!
Wonderful experience for me and my 13 year old son, he loved learning about Mexico and then experience the historical artifacts from around the world
It was full of people on Tuesday morning! If you go with very young children, my advice is to bring a baby carrier since you have to park the stroller downstairs. the food was good, buffet for about 12 euros more or less
Interesting museum with free entré. Lightning could be better. A lot of kids, they seemed to have some activities for them. There’s code lockers available and even a restaurant/café.
This is barely a museum. Let me explain. As soon as me and my wife entered the building we noticed young children running around all over the entrance area. At first we thought that there is a class of preschoolers visiting from a local kindergarten, but a quick look around gave no signs of an organized tour or anything that would indicate that the hordes of unsupervised children shared any relationship. The only common denominator seemed to be an unbridled wish to be louder than the next one.Noticing that the visit might not turn out as we had hoped we made our way up a flight of stairs to a restaurant in the hope of steeling our nerves with a cup of coffee and a meal. Pleasantly surprised we found an interesting looking buffet( although I had an uneasy feeling about the suitability of an open buffet with such a large crowd of unsupervised children running amok ). We paid and stood in line for the food when my feelings were confirmed. One mother was scouting the buffet with an obviously sick toddler in her arms. After the child sneezed all over the buffet enough times for the mucus to dribble down its face she must have decided that bringing her sick toddler with her, up to the food wasnt the brightest idea and so she walked off. I turned to my wife and we agreed that things are back to normal after two years of covid restrictions. We shouldnt be too alarmed. After all, the entire planet is made of dirt, whats a little more going to harm?As I turned back towards the food a boy was occupied trying to fit as a wooden spoon into his mouth ( the one everyone had to use to serve themselves the chopped mushrooms ). When his father told him to hurry up he stuck his grubby little hands right into the bowl of sliced oranges and ham-fistedly grabbed as many as he could before walking off.Our appetites could barely be contained at this point...After finishing our infested meals to the sound of shrieks and shouts of "Du är dum!!" and "Jag vill titta på tiktok!", we continued up to the 4th floor where the Mexico exhibition was held. The explanation of the exhibited pieces was in Swedish and Spanish, so I began quietly translating the text for my wife who is neither Swedish nor Spanish.Every sentence became a minutes long ordeal as I had to stop every time a child threw a temper tantrum or the next toddler decided to fill the room with never ending crying at a volume that makes a passing ambulance sound like a whisper. As we moved on to the exhibition in the center of the room we were immediately interrupted by a young girl who banged her fingers on the exhibitions accompanying info-touchscreen until she disappointedly called out to her parents that "Det finns inte youtube på denna!" and ran off.We struggled our way through a few more of the pieces but it was impossible to focus on the artefacts on display and it became absolutely impossible to have any piece of mind that would allow you to appreciate the artefacts cultural value and importance. We left with a feeling of not having understood much of the story behind the pieces on exhibit. The museum doesnt cultivate an atmosphere that supports learning, reflection and appreciation of culture... Which begs the question, why should other museums lend their pieces to the Gothenburg museum of world culture? There is barely a chance for the visitors to truly appreciate any of it. Only unnecessary risk in transporting their priceless pieces to a state sponsored playground where theyre protected from drooling four year olds by a thin piece of glass. Many reviewers are praising the museum as a great place to go play with their children. But thats not what a museum is for... At least not to my understanding. The Cambridge English dictionary describes a museum like this: "A building where objects of historical, scientific, or artistic interest are kept".It fulfills these criteria. But a large part of the clientele that it tries to attract is neither historically, scientifically nor artistically interested. They are 4 years old and want to scroll tiktok...
I felt attached to the exhibition since the theme was Latin America. Well presented artifacts with the info related. Nice big place to go with children.
Nice interactive museum. Entry is free. There is a lunch buffet inside for a reasonable price.
Pretty fun exhibition for kids! Usually pretty crowded in the weekends
Very interactive and informative
The place is very organised, well thought out, simple and relaxing. If you are just looking for a calm, learn and see new outtakes of culture then you should definitely come here. But the main star for me was their food buffé. Tasted really well. Fresh and spiced/cooked well. The price was low because I ate aaaalot..
4th floor exhibit was nice, good history behind the culture and items. 3rd floor was lackluster, would be good to bring a kid here
A lot of good things to see from around the world, great place to be with kids, entrance is Free, near to Universum 👍🏻
Very nice museum. There is a lot things to see. 1.5hour maybe more to go around.
Nice and fun place to visit. All text are translated for English speaking tourists. Also free entrance.
Some really great exhibits. Takes a few hours to get through and kids will love the shoe free zone.
True to its name, we had the chance and pleasure to check out the current exhibition, which is about México, with some absolutely beautiful exhibits. Everything was very nicely presented, so I would definitely recommend this museum. Staff was really welcoming and helpful and besides the museum, I really loved the variety of whats on offer in the museum shop. Last, but not least, the lunch buffet looked amazing!!!
Gothenburg, Sweden: Museum of world culture- This time it was all about Mexico, Beautiful and elaborated explanations, good old master pieces from all over the world showcasing cultures, beliefs, struggles, Ruling, Rulers, experiences what not? If you are an enthusiast to know more about world cultures Do Visit Museum of World Culture, Posting few pics taken here, Happy Weekend folks!!
Felt they made me sit on the entrance where all bar and take away service goes on just to take all money there is to take, asking twice if I am done so new ppl can sit. Food is great but I wont pay same or more than those ppl that sit on the cozy side and get stressed.
Free entry, interesting exhibit about Dia de Muertos. Play area for kids, might have to reserve place if its busy.
Great place! The Mexico Exhibition was super nice! The restaurant is also great, with good food and good prices!
Great place. Wanted a quiet coffee and a chat after visiting but, no go, because they have placed a childrens exploration place in the same space. The queue and therefore all the excited children, stretched into a full third of the restaurant. No peace to chat about what we had just seen over a nice Fika, so we left and went elsewhere. Whilst we were there many couples did the same thing, dont mind noisy kids running around but surely that is not the best way to queue them.
To access the museum take the spårvagn to Korsvägen for example. Its quite central and close to Liseberg and Universeum. It has a small store in the entrance and a restaurant one floor up. Quite expensive but good quality as well. The exhibition is nice, various cultural items to look at and relatively child-friendly. Bathrooms are found on the second level. We managed to get in without any costs but there are currently Corona restrictions.
We always have an amazing time here. There is always something new to see, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The gift shop is unique. A great place to look for gifts. The current Kimono exhibition from the V&A in London is stunning. Lots of food for thought for creative personality types. I highly recommend it!
Every visit is unique thanks to the varying exhibitions that are always a treat, usually for several senses. They have collections from all over the world visiting so if youre after an afternoon of culture, this is your preferred destination.
Very innovative way to expose the museums collection in an educative way around themes as "cross roads" and ecology, living and playing together.Special mention for "Mind the Gap ".No judgements but invitation to think different.
The Kimono exhibition was beautifully presented and the Japanese theme carried through the coffee shop and gift shop as well as other areas was subtle and very well done. I hope to come back for more exhibitions
The best museum I have ever been to, I cant even begin to explain the things we saw and the fun we had. 10/10 would recommend visiting. Plus the entry is free!
Id say not that interesting museum in general, but nice area for kids
Such a great experience for the whole family. Truly a world-wide experience.
Visited the Kimono exhibition, which is what I base my view on. Ambition seem good, subject interesting. But it was way too dark in the rooms and too small letters on many of the info signs/texts.next to the monters. Not a good combo! Also in some of the monters there were 2 kimonos, of which i could barely see the 2nd one.
The best kids friendly exhibition i have ever visited ...
The fact that admission is free makes it much more worth your while. They have a restaurant in the building as well with good lunch offer. The exhibitions are interesting and interactive making the visit for people of all ages participatory and dynamic in certain areas.
A truly magnificent exhibition for small children! Perfect areas to run around in and explore without worries for knocking some fragile exhibit over.In-house restaurant well worth a visit.
Admission is free and the building itself is beautiful. Worth dropping in for the afternoon. Kid friendly.
Its free which is unusual for Sweden.Great exhibitions that are very interesting. The Human Nature exhibit was very good and thought provoking.
Definitely one of the best museums I’ve been to. It’s suitable for all age groups.
fantastic interactive huge play area for kids! perfect for rainy chilly days. FREE!Good cafe for meals and fika. ping pong room and movie shorts craft room and 3rd floor more in depth global culture..current focus on refugees . great for whole family all ages..did I mention Free?
Free entrance. The best part is space for families where adults can learn and children play and at the end rest togetherAll inclusive buffet for 125 Kronas is additional pros of this place
This museum is not super big and the entrance is free. Theres an area where kids can play, a cafeteria, and some nice exhibitions. You can buy gifts in a gift shop and the staff is friendly. When in Gothenburg, make sure to visit.
Currently displaying exhibits on human interrelations with nature as well as with one another, the galleries served to remind me of many things past and contemporary, but it also gave me many new impressions - rationally as well as emotionally - to digest and consider.Definitely worth a visit, if youre in town and would enjoy an exhibit that presents a grand scheme of things along with a number of personal stories, and gives you reason to reflect and reevaluate your individual self.
Great place to take kids! Food is delicious, but charges a lot for it.
Showcasing different culture from around the world. A good place of learning. 👨🏫👩🏫
This is a must if you are in Gothenburg. Its free to visit and you have a lot of exhibits. It’s not your regular museum with historical paintings etc. they put a twist on it :)
Amazing space for creating space and imagination. Loved all the exhibitions but the exhibition on Syrian refugees and collection of artifacts were the best!
Good to visit one time and better for kids to spent a day out with good food in-house. It is quite big still with scope of placing lot more from across the World.
Free entry and good exhibits, maybe one for children over 3
3G blackspot in parts of the museum not helped by dysfunctional Wi-Fi. Apparently the canteen food is very good for vegetarians, but closed on Sunday.
