Djurgårdsvägen 38 - 40, 115 21 Stockholm, Sweden, Stockholm
18th-century naval building for exhibits on history & culture of alcohol in Sweden, plus bar/dining.
I knew a lot about the gin and vodka, how they are made, and even smell them too which is really amazing.
Very interesting place. And dont miss the tastings at the end.
Loved it. What an experience. The museum is awesome. Learned so much. Get the samples afterward for the full effect.
We stopped by the Spritmuseum as it was on our GoCity Stockholm card. The museum entry usually costs 130 SEK, which on reflection, is good value for the time you spend in there and the quality of the experience. We started on the ground floor and looked through the art exhibit ‘Troubled Waters’ by artists Pierre et Gilles. It was rather risqué, but very thought provoking and I really enjoyed it. We then started to make our way through the experience, which was a well thought out collection of exhibits based on a variety of alcohol trends. There were plenty of interactive elements to the experience, and I recommend getting involved with all the quizzes, they’re great fun.At the time of visiting they were focusing on the Gin scene that has exploded in Sweden (very much like the UKand it was interesting to see their take on it.Another fascinating element to the experience was the Swedish relationship with alcohol. I’m from the UK, and it is both fairly cheap and easy to drink to excess pretty much anywhere. The Swedish stance on the matter seems to be a lot more discouraging than the UK. In the exhibits there were elements that focused on hangovers and drinking too much - showing the ugly truth to drinking. I especially enjoyed taking a few minutes out lying in darkened room watching what happens when you ‘go too far’ and what happens to you the more your blood alcohol levels increase. All in all, I was l really surprised by the Spiritmuseum. It’s far more than just a ‘sniff this’ or how to make a cocktail, it’s art, culture, the Swedish relationship with alcohol and so much more. I would definitely recommend a visit if you’re looking for something a little different to do after the equally fascinating Vasa Museum. On a side note, they do offer tasting boards and experiences alongside the tour, but these are an additional cost. It was approximately 175 SEK when we visited and this was for 4 different tasters.
This is the most fun Ive had at a museum as an adult. The art exhibit was beautiful and the gin exhibit had vats the different aromatics to smell. The rest of the spirit museum had the most engaging, hands on exhibits Ive had the pleasure to experience in more than a decade. Definitely recommend. The tasting wasnt open because we got there early in the day, but well worth it to go back.
Great exhibitions, very informative with a lot of different sections.
loved the experience. theres a lot of stations where you can smell the different ingredients of things. plus you can take a chair at the entrance to be more comfortable while reading the infos.
This was fun, great location too! No need to book
Ticket is a bit overpriced for the size of the museum (3 rooms), and any samples you might want are extra (not included in the cost itself), which is not clear when you buy the tickets.
It was underwhelming, at first, and even a little gimmicky. But some of the stuff further into the museum was good. And I liked the large history of gin exhibition.
Great museum. Learned so much about my favorite spirit.
Compared to other museums, this is more of an art exhibition that gives a very, very brief history on alcohol in Sweden. I would not recommend visiting here since the price was a bit expensive and it felt more like an art exhibit than an actual museum.
Alcohol museum where staff do not know how to serve wine without cork. Also just half a glass. The suip of the day is scalding hot and tasteless. Avoid. 10 better places within 50 meters.
Very nice exhibition telling the history of the Swedish production of alchohol. Absolutely worth a visit!
Good history of brewery, how different types of alcohol made. You get to experience the fragrance of various ingredients used.
It provides a brief introduction the history and creation process of spirits, mainly vodka and gin. On the day I visited the museum, there was a newly launched gin for tasting as well! There is also a bar in the museum. I ordered a gin tasting set, which includes one glass of genever, pink gin, barrel-aged gin and a tonic. Apart from the one I order, there is another tasting set with spirits that are more Swedish. All in all, I would recommend this museum for all alcohol lovers.
The bar /restaurant has one of stockholms best outside sidewalk location . The sun in your face, best view over stockholm old town södermalm etc and the amusment park grönalund next door. The wine is expensive, staff dont kbow what they are doing and toilets needs cleaning ... but the view !!!!!
Its quite a small museum. I was glad there was an amazing art exhibiting to compliment; otherwise, we would have found it too small and uneventful.
Great museum and restaurant at a beautiful location
Rhum tasting (paired with Chocolatefollowed by tour (mostly about Ginand then some drinks is a must while in Stockholm.
An interesting museum that allows you to smell a lot of different varieties of beverages. Its a bit small and unfortunately you cant taste any of the drinks that you read about
Nice museum. Offers some interactive activities and a tasting menu at the end.
Its not a typical museum in the sense that it seems to be mostly in existence to justify the restaurant/bar on the grounds. There were 3 exhibits. The Absolut/fashion exhibit was a 90s throwback to a time of supermodels, vodka, and tackiness. The Swedish wine exhibit had a lot of interesting information but so would Wikipedia. The other exhibit feels mostly on putting your nose on a final to smell things. Not an ideal activity in 2021.Overall the place was fine but I wouldnt send anyone there.
Expect some fine history of alcoholic beverages ;take pictures, enjoy smell samples of different alcohols and additives. You can also buy samples of the alcohols with the entrance ticket.
Wonderful insights in the Swedish tradition of Spirit making and recent developments such as wine making in Sweden. This museum has a bit for everyone: with Interactive displays and lots of decorative exhibitions. More about this museum or other highlights in Stockholm? Visit REISACHTIG.COM
We had a very nice lunch in its restaurant with a good view. Vegetarian dish and a fish dish. Fresh ingredients, well cooked, friendly staff. You can taste the wine (or in our case the ciderbefore you make your choice.
I got sufficiently inebriated after the self-run tour through the museum; a great activity to span around 80 mins!
One of the coolest place in Stockholm, and a must visit. Right now they have an exhibition on Absolut and cider! There is a regular exhibition about drinking culture in Sweden and what goes into making Absolut .Dont forget to visit their restaurant! I had one of the best lunches there ever :)
Extremely interesting museum and very different from your average museums. There are lot of interactive elements to it and you get to add a tasting experience after learning about the spirits. Wish it was a little bigger so I could spend more time there, was done after an hour.
Great way to spend our morning in Stockholm. Really chilled vibe to the museum. Small but lots to see. Interesting to see how vodka made and the consequence from drinking it. Very strange video on being drunk. We particularly enjoyed the tasters at the end of the tour.
A place that makes you to think a lot. Water of life and spirit of freedom.
Very nice place to relax, enjoying a quick bite and a good drink, perhaps on you way to Gröna Lund. Tip of the day: try the New & Improved IPA.
(RestaurantReally nice spot by the water. The food was great. They had a tap takeover from a local brewery so the beers where really fresh and really good. We sat here longer than we expected after we were finished with the food since the place was so cozy. Öppnar
It always nice when a museum exceeds ones expectations. I hadnt thought this would capture my interest but I was blown away by the incredible photography and artistic representations in the Absolut Art exhibition. Im very glad that when the Vodka company was sold to the French in 2008, the art associates with the company was retained by Sweden as part of its cultural heritage. There are other themes in this museum, but this was the stand out one for me.
When in Stockholm do come to see really cool interiors at the entrance area of Museum of Spirits. You will see how past meets present through combinations of old timber beams, copper pipes and chains, multi-colour pendants, mirrored back bar and amazing metal ceiling.
Very nice place. The exhibition about food was very educational and well made. Also the David Shrigley swans were funny to watch. All in all a sympathetic place!
Super cosy and easy accesible cafe/restaurant with nice food, friendly staff and great coffee. Magic here at the terrace on a sunny day!
We visited to see the Shrigley exhibition but hadnt realised it was only one room, with one display of his work. It was nice that this continued into other displays though, although not very entertaining for my 2yo as they were all about alcohol! (history of champagne, interactive scent testers to smell different alcohols, a hangover room, etc).Very friendly staff member at the door who chatted to my son and helped recommend lunch places for us.
It is what it claims to be - a museum with everything youve ever wanted to know about spirits. Theres a cool temporary exhibition about champagne at the moment and that was quite interesting. There are some interactive displays and lots of written info in several languages. I wouldnt go out of my way to visit here unlees you have a keen interest in alcohol (and not just drinking it). Entry is free with the Stockholm card and its worth a visit if you have a spare hour. Its very close to Skansen, the Abba museum and the Vasa museum and easy to access with public transport.
Definitely a fun experience- very interactive. Check out my travel blog @travelandchampagne
If you have the Stockholm pass, take a quick trip. If not, feel free to skip.
Amazing views. Nice beers. Lovely terrace
Small but cool museum. The exhibition is modern, diversed and fun.
Really nice mixture of art (the history of Absolut Wodka), interesting information about champagne (history and productionand my Favorit the drinking and hang over exhibition *g* A perfect place to learn more about the ingredients and Swedish drinking culture! Go there and enjoy the outstanding visualization and atmosphere!!!
Fantastic location and view. Ok beer selection. Only simpler bar food though. Can fit strollers!Service is slow.
Nice location but it was not as impressive as I thought it will be. Limited selection of beer and the service is very slow.
The best location to drink a beer in the summer. The staff was great and the service as well. Their gin tonic was good and I saw other people eating nice food. The only downside was the beer selection. They only had “normal” Swedish craft beer that you can buy at the store. So I’ll give it a three until they improve their selection for us more picky with the beer.
Good museum with art and history of alcohol. Highly reccomend their fairs and tastings organized occasionally
Service and Science of Spirits! My goodness, a fantastic museum! Exquisite design throughout. A must see for all in Stockholm. Take the ferry, damn fun!
Very enjoyable interactive museum, dont miss the hangover simulator!
