Museum with exhibits on the area's Native Americans, the gas & oil industry, cowboys hats & dolls.
There is so much to see here! It’s hard to take it all in. Pace yourself and plan to make at least two visits.I enjoyed my visit. There is so much to learn and read. I really enjoyed the uniforms. Learning about the history of nursing and the college was really exciting.I am so glad there was at least a room dedicated to women. The walls of hats was surprising. I enjoyed the reconstructed building facades of the post office and store fronts.I had never seen a side-saddle until I visited. The theater is also full of information. I would like to watch a movie there. This museum is in a good location. One of the rooms was having a new exhibition installed when I visited. I think I would visit again with my family in the future. The museum is free but asks for a $5 donation. It is well worth $5.I hope they get some grants soon to get more staff, improve the venue, and exhibits.
Looked at it on Google and Google Maps

Awesome place to learn about history. Many great historic things to see with most of them being donated. Admission is free but donations are very much appreciated.
Very well put together and lots to see.
This was a great place to get out and stretch the legs while on a road trip. Its donation based and theres plenty of information if youre a history or war buff. Theres even a few things to freak your kids out with... I recommend stopping by the museum of North Texas history when in the area
This place is great!!! I spent a long time here.
Interesting small history museum with items you will not see anywhere else. Love the hand made wood battleships.
This place was awesome. Free but accepts donations upon entrance. So informative and well kept.
Wonderful well thought out museum. I enjoyed reading and seeing a visual history of the town.
Excellent museum in a convenient downtown location. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Free, though encouraged to donate (please do!). Highlights: picture wall timeline of Wichita Falls colorful history, Indian artifacts, cowboy hats, western boots, medical equipment, and large detailed models of US military ships from 1850-1950. Great labeling explaining all display items.
Really enjoyed their displays
Very fun local history. As an out of towner I enjoyed learning about Wichita falls local flavor and history
Tells real history as it was.
Now heres a local guide gem right here! If youre a history buff and like to see very old things preserved in glass casing, old maps, the iron lung, old military items and fatigues, etc, this is the place for you. Ive been here twice and its pretty awesome, like taking a step back in time. They have a guided tour throughout the museum too. The guide was knowledgeable and didnt rush the tour. Definitely worth checking out if you like all things history. You will certainly learn something you didnt know before.
Fantastic museum with great depth of detail in its many interesting artifacts and exhibits. Just a couple hours here and Ive learned so much about life in this area through the ages.Workers were very nice and knowledgeable. They mentioned plans to continue to expanding the displays. I cant wait to find out more about our incredible past!
One of my favorite museums!!! We were visiting from North Carolina and had a blast. The exhibits were terrific and everyone was SUPER knowledgeable!!! Thanks so much for the education!!!
Ive been going to the Museum of North Texas History from time to time when Im in Wichita Falls, Texas for the experience of learning more this citys great history. Easy to find thanks to the wonderful signage in the front, I was able to explore the vast Western history and military displays. This museum is a pretty decent size and even has a theater room in it for various movies. Id recommend this museum to anyone who wants to learn more of this destination city.
Best point of interest in the city, shame its not more popular. Stopping is highly recommended if you are in the area. Admissions are free with donations welcome.
This self guided museum in downtown is a great that me and my kids absolutely loved.
Great experience visiting. Has a lot of information about Wichita Falls TX and the surrounding area. My favorite part was seeing all of the actual cowboy hats there are hundreds. Had a small cowboy boot section that was also great. Nice to learn about the history of the area in TX
Loaded with a lot of local history. Was an enjoyable experience.
Our museum guide was Don. He was amazing and full of tons of information. We were greeted right away and given a map to explore the museum at our leisure. Don followed along, giving us space to absorb the plethera of informative historical events thoughout Wichita history, while including extra special tidbits of information about the city while we walked. Preservation of museum artifacts was excellent. Everything was clean, titled, labeled and informative. Definitely recommend, plan for a few hours if you really want to see everything.
Wonderful
Unexpectedly closed for exhibit change, not stated on their website. So we paid for two nights at a crummy campground for nothing.
Found this little gem downtown Wichita Falls. Lots of history about our area here.
Very interesting. Was there for memorial. Would love to go back and look at all of it
Very interesting. Bob taught us a lot
I was visiting with the family from Miami Fl and it was a delightful experience to visit this museum. Our tour guide was an elder man originally from New York who moved to Texas many year ago and was very knowledgeable about Texas history. The place was very well organized.
My sons liked this museum. It was definitely informative. For being free (you can make a donation, which we did), it was totally worth it.
Friendly staff. Free. Accepts donations. Really nice museum.
Best place to visit in Wichita Falls!! So, so much to see! A wealth of history and the curator is a gem. Be sure to talk with him if you can!
Loved it its worth going and learning the local history
Alot of history for Witchata Texas enjoyed very much
Great local museum, must see if you come downtown.
Loved it. Great place and lovely staff of volunteers
A wonderful place to see the history of the local area. The museum docents are very knowledgable. I was there a couple hours and wasnt able to look at everything. The Then and Now exhibit is very interesting. If youre from Wichita Falls, its a must see! The exhibit is over sometime in September.
There is much here for the history buff. The archives are great but you will have to make arrangements. All Wichita county records are there. There is a lot of attention to the military being a military town. For the price of a donation it is one of the best history museums I have been too.
So much to see. Truly remarkable. Very interesting. They have about 20 rooms of exhibits.
Really enjoyed Rev White on history of Dr Annie Roark and a look back on the Eastside of Wichita Falls. Each of us have a story of “back in the day”. There’s a lot to share about our history and I’m grateful to Doc Roark.
Small but interesting if youre into historical.
The staff was very knowledgeable and there were a lot of exhibits.
Free! Very interesting! Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. Great find!
Interesting museum. Good to take kids to. Lots to see.
A fun place to explore with the family and learn about local history. Some exhibits are temporary and new items are rotated in so you always have something new to see when you visit.
Really enjoyed exploring here. There was quite a lot to look at. Stuff about terrible Tuesday. A room of model ships made from random stuff. Model trains and so much more. Looking forward to the farming wing that is being finished up.
local history from several aspects. many rooms to explarw. Not many indian artifacts
Just a wonderful place to go and explore history. I love it.
The admission is free, but the doors are locked. Once we rang the doorbell we were quickly greeted by the museum curator who let us in and explained who they were and what the rooms held.He was courteous, knew the area well and suggested other sites and museums to visit later. The selection was very interesting, had a number of historical photos of Wichtia Falls and its founding and other very interesting collections such as typewriters, war memorabilia and oil and gas displays.
A museum from another era that needs some attention. See the iron lung and the miniatures, but be prepared to be disappointed by many of the exhibits.
