You will also be able to see the stuff that Turkic Kams (shamansinstruments and 1000 years old old Turkic grave stones called balbals. I really enjoyed the place and you can also hire an English, Russian, Kahazakh language speaking guides. Most of them are students and please leave tip to them at the end of tour. I fully recommend this place.

Мuseum of musical instruments named after Ykylas Dukenuly is one of my favorites. There are many national instruments that were used by famous kazakh writers, authors. The thing which I liked the most is seeing various types of dombras ranging from Russian,Uzbek to ours. Despite that I was delighted to hear sound of music insight the building. Overall, I highly recommend to you, go and enjoy.
Good museum!
Very nice, sympathetic museum. Not free of charge anymore. However it is worth visiting. Very central location. Souvenir shop next to the museum is especially recommended.
A very interesting museum of Kazakh musical instruments such as kobyz and dombra, and with other ethnic instruments from Asia and Europe. All housed in a gorgeous wooden building close to the Panfilov Martyrs monument. Highly recommended.
I recommend that everyone, including children from 10 years old with grandparents, visit it with the whole family. In addition to Kazakh instruments, there are other instruments of other peoples of the world. If you are interested in music, be sure to visit this Museum.
I almost did not come here. Luckily for me, the location is near other tourist attractions, such as Zenkov’s Cathedral and Zelenyy Bazaar. I had a great time. (September 2019)
Very interesting, informative, place. History of national musical instruments of Kazakhs. And there are not only National Kazakh musical instruments
Beautiful, interesting and many unique musical instruments

Good locations, low prices, super exposition of Kazakh, Central Asia and others national instruments from all over the world.
Nice must see it
Kazakistan’ın başkenti Almatı’da Panfilov Parkının hemen yanında bulunan bu müzik enstrümanları müzesinde, Kazak müzik kültürünün nadide müzik aletleri sergileniyor. Müzede dombıra ve kopuzun pek çok versiyonunun yanı sıra sibizgi, şanjetkin, surna, sazgen gibi yerel binden fazla Kazak kültürüne özgü müzik aleti bulunmakta.
Surprisingly good. Quite a lot of stuff with good atmosphere and its even air conditioned. Much better maintained than the national historical museum. Explanations in English.Recommended.
Very interesting place, you can get information about musical instruments of Kazakh people.
Interesting music instruments. Lovely
Nice musical museum
This is wonderful museum housed in a beautiful wooden house in the center of Almaty. Everything is very well presented in this small but exquisite museum. The exposition on the right wing is dedicated to instruments from Kasachstan, from prehistoric timed to now. There is a focus on plucked and bowed string instruments. One room is dedicated to 2-stringed Dombras which belonged to ustads (Mastersof the last two century.Every Instrument is unique has its own personality and character. The left wing also presents instruments from other Central Asian cultures. So in one room you can compare Uzbek, Kyrgiz, Tajik, Mongol and Turkish instruments. This had high scholarly value. In the last room instruments from all cultures are presented. Marvellous exponats from Indonesia, Korea and Japan. In less than 1 hour anyone can get great insights in folk music intruments especially from Central Asia in a very well curated and presented exposition.
Following some of the other reviews, this was actually surprisingly interesting! Im not a musician or anything like that but I found the collection of traditional instruments, the dombras in particular, to be very beautiful and nice to admire. Its a very small museum, probably only takes 15-20 minutes to go through, but would recommend.
Very nice and beautiful place near war memorial Garden.
Good place but condition apply u hve to be good musician or music lover
Surprisingly interesting! They have a great deal of instruments, from local cultures but also global and international instruments and information. There was English information, but it was a bit sparse.
Fascinating little museum with English captions dedicated to folk instruments
A museum well worth visit if history and music is the visitors interest.I enjoyed the internal atmosphere, light settings and signs in English. It´s difficult to describe, this is must see.
A great museum with some never forgettable mystic atmosphere! You will want to come back there again and again. There are musical events and festivals if you are lucky
I thought there are only Kazakh musical instruments. However, there are different ones from all over the world
Not a large museum but really well done. All descriptions are in Kazakh, English, and Russian. Well worth the price of admission. Discounted tickets for students with school ID.
Great exhibition for Kazakh Musical instruments and some historic Instruments from all over the world. Nice displays and you can book a guided tour. Definitely worth visiting. As the exhibition is not so big you can spend there from 30 min to 1.5 hours.
Good
An excellent collection of diverse musical instruments not only from Kazakhstan but mainly from the Central Asian region (there are a few pieces from Germany, Czech Republic, Serbia etc. too). There are English labels too and you can listen to traditional music in the background while you walk around. One hour is more than enough to cover it.
Came in to escape the rain but was pleasantly surprised instead. This is an excellent museum, especially in comparison to the Kasteev state art museum which I went on the same day. Proper lighting, english labels, and very atmospheric exhibition spaces. Main exhibits are the Kazakh instruments, but theres also a small selection of folk instruments from other parts of the world.I do however wish it was more interactive - really wanted to touch or try playing a couple of instruments! I would also have loved a bit more historical information rather than just a display of instruments. Also, the gift shop wasnt open when I was there.Admission to the museum costs 500 tenge as of Oct 2016.
Surely unique. Newly refurbished, well organised and with signs in English (as well as Kazakh and Russian).
An interesting place to visit in Almaty, with lots of (oldmusical instruments, however it is not a very big place.
Cheap entry, only 1000 tenge per adult, range of instruments. Could be more interactive and more English explanations would be helpful.
A very modern museum about folk music and its instruments. Fascinating interactive displays. Theres a gift shop as well. I regret not buying a mouth harp.
