Museum of Greek Popular Musical Instruments in Kallithéa

Its a fun little museum, worth spending half an hour if you are nearby. Contains many folk instruments, a few pieces of music to listen to and some stories about the Greek revolution in 19th century

Small excellent Museum with full selection of Greek traditional music instruments. Well documented.

מוזיאון קטן יחסית ועשיר בכלי הנגינה המסורתיים של יוון, מהעת העתיקה ועד ימינו. המוזיאון מגולל את התהפוכות שעברה יוון, דרך ה"עיניים" של כלי הנגינה היווניים, וכיצד השפיעו התהפוכות על כלי הנגינה בה.בעזרת קודי QR הפזורים ליד המיצגים ניתן להאזין ליצירות עתיקות ואפילו לתופף בכלים וירטואליים עם סאונד מוקלט של כלי עתיק. ההסברים קצרים ונוחים, באנגלית ויוונית. נכון לכתיבת שורות אלו 31.8.22 עלות הכניסה היא 3 אירו לאדם, מקבלים קוד ל wifi ועוד קוד לברושור! למי שאוהב היסטוריה מוזיקה וכלי נגינה עתיקים, זה מוזיאון חובה!

Great little museum for music and instrument lovers. Entrance 3€. There are QR codes you can scan to listen to music clips. Unfortunately the museum doesn’t provide headphones so bring your own. Besides the instruments on display, there are interesting historical photos all around. Air con, clean bathrooms, polite staff

El museo de instrumentos es un pequeño pero muy interesante museo que, además de mostrar bellos instrumentos antiguos, explica su encaje en la cultura griega.Existen códigos QR a lo largo del museo donde se puede acceder a reproducciones de música griega con los instrumentos mostrados.Entrada asequible y patio interior que merece una visita.

Όμορφη συλλογή και ενδιαφέρον μουσείο, κάποιο από το προσωπικό δεν ήταν ιδιαίτερα εξυπηρετικοί.

Πολυ όμορφη συλλογή, ποιοτική με ικανοποιητικό αριθμό εκθεμάτων ώστε να μην κουράζει τον επισκέπτη. Επίσης πολύ οικονομικό εισιτήριο εισόδου.

Interesting exposition of greek folk instruments.

The collection of instruments is big and covers a wide range of periods. Its correctly organized and invites to discover it. The text are not so long. The temporal exhibition about the Greek revolution is well integrated and supplements the permanent exhibition. Sadly the personal dont speak good english and even in 2022 they still havent found a way to play the recordings (the headphones were not there due to corona). Its sad to see the Instruments and not hear them.

Ο μοναδικός χώρος με τον οποίο μπορεις να ερθεις σε επαφή με την πλούσια ελληνική μουσική μας παράδοση. Εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέρον ο υλικό που προσφέρει.

Εξειδικευμένο μουσείου που εστιάζει στην λαϊκή μουσική και τα παραδοσιακά όργανα. Η έκθεση έχει 3 ορόφους με τα μουσικά όργανα να εκτιθενται σε προθήκες με καλό φωτισμό που τα αναδεικνύει και μη αντανακλαστικό γυαλί για καλές φωτογραφίες. Το κειμενικο υλικό είναι λίγο και κατανοητό χωρίς να σε κουράζει, ενώ εικόνες από αρχαίες παραστάσεις και βυζαντινές συμπληρώνουν την διαχρονική αξία και χρήση των οργάνων. Το μουσείο διαθέτει και εξωτερικό χώρο όπου οργανώνονται δωρεάν μουσικές παραδοσιακές βραδιές ιδανικές για ένα χώρο κάτω από την Ακρόπολη και δίπλα από τα Αναφιώτικα. Την περίοδο αυτή έχει έκθεση για το 1821 με παραδοσιακά τραγούδια που μπορείς με QR code να ακούσεις και επίσης να παίξεις και εσύ τον ρυθμό σε ψηφιακό τουμπερλεκι.

Petit musée très sympa. Découvrir les instruments grecs et lhistoire du pays à travers ses chants était très intéressant. Nous avons passé un beau moment 😊De très belles pièces sont présentées, jétais charmée 😍Le coût de lentrée est dérisoire (2 ou 3 euroset il serait dommage de sen priver.

Really cool collection of Greek folk instruments. Granted, as a musician, I find it really fascinating, but I suspect even a non-musician who appreciates music enough will enjoy it. Despite some earlier reviews and a website I found which claims free admission, there is a cost of €3. Small price to pay, imho.

Better to go there after pandemic time because you can’t listen to the instruments due to COVID restrictions

The museum exhibits interesting objects with describing their purpose. It is located in the Plaka district in the historic city center.

If youre a musician, you dont want to miss this. The history of clarinets and bagpipes was particularly interesting.

What a fascinating array of instruments! And most I had never heard of. One of my favorite attractions in Athens!

Ένα υπέροχο μουσείο με πολλά τοπικά όργανα από όλα τα μέρη της Ελλάδος και χαμένων πατριδων. Ένα σημαντικό ιστορικό μέρος των μουσικών οργάνων είναι από την εποχή του Μέσοπολέμου. Έχει ακουστικά και διάφορα διαδραστικά για τα μουσικά όργανα, την ιστορία τους, από την περιοχή που είναι. Με συνεχόμενα βίντεο από ήχους παραδοσιακής μουσικής. Την λύρα μάλλον μια από της λίρες του Νίκου Ξυλουρη. Είναι σε όμορφο ατμοσφαιρικό νεοκλασικο, με ζεστά χρώματα που σε κάνουν να εσθανεσαι όμορφα.

An unusual museum about music instruments. There are many of them and the majority are quite old and strange. There are headphones to listen to the sound that some instruments produce. Free entrance.

This very small museum is free, and great. Three floors of traditional Greek instruments, with information in Greek and english. There are some videos of people playing music, and headphones you can put on to listen to traditional music. Beautiful handmade instruments. About an hour or an hour and a half to see and really digest everything.

A small but delightful spot to drop by if you are around. It is free, too.

As a musician, I found the museum quite interesting, with many well-preserved traditional instruments and good explanations. However, several of the headphones to listen to examples were missing. Also, its small, you can go through it quite thoroughly and it doesnt take too long.

Beautiful and interesting exhibited instruments!

The opening hours on Google are incorrect. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. Its open Monday, Wednesday to Sunday from 8:30-15:30. I wasnt able to visit the museum but wanted to let others know the correct opening hours.

Free, concise, and well laid out. The museum isnt very large, but they do a good job of presenting a lot of historical instrument usage. More instruments than description (but everything is labeled). Also a nice bathroom.

Great little museum with several displays of instruments. They had head phones with English and Greek lessons. Free entrance.

Very interesting collection of Greek musical instruments. I appreciate that headphones are there for people who want to listen to the sounds of the instruments. Some headphones were not working. But can’t complain because it’s a free exhibit. All in all a must-go for music buffs.

What a special place to see and hear the musical instruments of the Greek people. Three floors of engrossing specimens and descriptions. The instrument shop has limited hours, but the shopkeeper is incredibly helpful.

This museum is a real gem. We couldnt believe that the entrance was free! Beautifully presented. You can listen to samples from different instruments, watch videos and see some of the most beautifully crafted instruments you ever encounter. Dont miss it!

Nice displays and an interesting look into the historical instruments of Greece. Especially liked being able to listen to them. Not a big museum but 30 minutes well spent
