The coolest little museum ever. So many cool historical items and has that small town charm. You have to stop by this place if you are in the area!
Enjoyed visit. Very educational !!
Travelers, this is a wonderful local history museum. We learned so much about Opelika from spending an afternoon in this museum. There is so much information packed into each space be sure not to miss anything. The museum guide when we were there was knowledgeable and gave us a tour of the museum. Go and uncover the long and glorious history of this bucolic train town. I was amazed to learn that at one time Opelika was so dangerous, way back in the 1800s, folks on the train passing through town had to duck so the folks in the downtown saloons wouldnt shoot at them. To look at the lovely downtown today you would never guess that. We recommend.
Well organized historical items from the Opelika area and items of historical value from other places donated by people who live in Opelika/Auburn area.Everything from musical instruments to public safety as well as an old barber shop, beauty salon, typesetting equipment, Indian artifacts and more. A must see attraction nestled in historic downtown Opelika, Al. Diagonal from the Courthouse.
This an excellent museum! We went for the Taste of the Town event and it was absolutely amazing. The museum itself has lots of interesting artifacts from Alabama and the employees we met were super nice and friendly!
They put on a great event in the spring called Taste of the town.
Very educational
This was neat place to visit. A lot of history about the Opelika area.
Excelent place, lots of history stored in a small building, have visited twice and will go again!
Took our granddaughter, she had a great time, she loved the old dresses on display, the train sets, coloring station, and all. It was a great trip for her. strongly recommend taking your children to see our local history
Very interesting Indian displays as well as military uniforms. Cotton was a key to the economy of the south and they give e it proper attention. A bit small, but interesting with some rooms in period decorations
What a treasure trove of artifacts in Opelika, AL at the MOEA! Wonderful items, pictures, and memories in this gem of a museum. Every time I visit I discover something new!
Great place to visit and learn about the history of East Alabama
Great historic part of opelika
This museum is absolutely packed full of stuff documenting everything from the towns history to odds, ranging from artifacts from the WWII PoW camp to tires produced by the local Michelan plant which made components for the space shuttle program. Definitely worth a visit if youre looking for something to do. Also, there is a working 1924 General Electric refrigerator in the back storeroom.
You can feel the history there!! It truly is a hidden gem in downtown opelika!!!
Do you want to see an old cotton loom from west point stevens? Theyve got one! Great grandparent, grandchild hour to spend before a nice lunch in downtown. Definately worth a walk through.
