Calle 42, Sabana, San José, Costa Rica, Puerto Limon
Indoor-outdoor museum in a historic building showcasing the works of Latin American artists.
Free and nice museum. Worth visiting if you are in the park
Not a bad experience. It a self guided tour, not too big of an exposition and everything labeled accordingly.Maybe Id recommend some in English, as there are a lot of tourists, and not evetything had a trabslation attached or is very easy to understand.
Was nice to visit a museum for free. Pretty interesting
This is a nice little museum with different type of art on different rooms. Also they have sculptures inside and out as well.
This free museum was fantastic, fascinating, and situated in a lovely area. The building itself is amazing, we were completely enthralled by the exhibitions layout and visual appeal. If youre seeking for culture in San Jose, I would definitely suggest a visit.
A wonderful collection of Costa Rican Art . Free for the public!!! 💚
Local artists expressing their inspired work, at this time lots of art based on their experiences during the pandemic. It gives a pretty good insight into the local art scene.
“The Golden Room” upstairs alone was well worth the visit. Overall wonderful experience and free!
The building itself is a work of art! The art is varied and theres even a sculpture garden. Best of all its free!
Must see place in San Jose! I wouldve stayed longer if I didnt have a plane to catch that day.Great art work and beautiful building at the entrance to park.
This free entry museum was wonderful, interesting, and in a beautiful location. The building itself is jaw dropping and as very poor Spanish speakers we still entirely enjoyed the visuals and setup of the exhibits. I would highly recommend a visit if youre looking for culture in San Jose.
This Museum I can only rate at mediocre. To be fair Im comparing this experience to the MET and museums in Washington DC and Chicago. The museum has exhibits both inside and outside, multiple sections of art and lots of security.Visit this place with appropriate expectations and know it wont take long to see it all and youll be fine.
It is a nice expreince in that lovely museum
Most of the interior exhibitions are being reworked, so not much to see there. The sculptures outside are worth a look
Free entry, smaller museum but rather interesting. Found out it is in the first airport building in Costa Rica. Educational day for us to learn the old style of print copy.
This was disappointing because I have knee problems and find it challenging to climb stairs. This is a two story building with a steep winding staircase to the second floor with no elevator. As a result I missed the best part of the museum. If stairs are not an obstacle then I recommend it, there was some interesting art on the main floor and an outdoor sculpture garden. But from what I heard from my tour mates the best stuff was upstairs.
Not a great deal to see here. Honestly the space this place takes up could be better served by something else support to say 5 to 10 minutes is all you really need here
Small do-able museum
Beautiful and small museum. With beautiful art pieces created by their own people. Worth a stop. And free!
Small but outdoorsy museum packed with history. The staff was cordial and informative. Great for both adults and kids. My fav part is the sculptures garden: so on-brand :). The location is good surrounded by a beautiful park, easy to access by bus or car, and its free.
Beautiful building inside and out. You should stop in-very worth the time and adjacent to a beautiful park. This museum does amazing work. English and Spanish text guides makes it easy for everyone.
Excellent museum but so little, I would like to see many more such amazing works.
Such a beautiful museum at the edge of the park. The building and grounds are cared for impeccably. The staff is attentive and friendly. The "Good Room" is especially impressive in its representation of Costa Rican history.
Very beautiful place to visit and its free
Great little museum. Free, which is great! Only tough thing was getting to it by foot from downtown. Its not easy to cross the street in front of it and had to do a lot of walking back and forth to find a safe place to cross. But do visit!
This museum is in great condition. So many pieces. Our guide was awesome and knowledgeable on the art and history. They are on point in regards to protection from COVID19. Must wash hands with soap n water before entering and fill out on online form. The wall art was my fave because it is a detailed explanation of Costa Rican history. Also dont forget to check out the pieces outside of the museum.
Liyve this little museum 🎨
went there because my hostel was nearby and I had two hours of time. but really a must visit! the museum is in the old airport building and has stunning architecture. the exhibits have some great pieces that really make you ponder and showcase costa rican culture.
Interesting, contemporary art.Modern art with social meaning. And a great temporary exhibit from local women showing engravings.
It was a wonderful museum!!Frankly I didnt expect that much, but went there cause it was very close from where I stayed. It was surprisingly good. The golden room on the second floor was amazing, and the garden with the sculptures was beautiful. Not all the pieces had the English explanation, but the staffs were all kind and they offered me booklets containing English explanation.Thank you very much!!
Some really cool stuff inside and out. Small yet accommodating cool building and nice people
Stunning, free museum with a great collection of local art. It took a couple hours but you could rush through faster. We are so happy we took the time to visit. Wooden room above the main gallery is a highlight! Outdoor sculpture park is also fantastic.
It was free entry (on a Friday, at leastand although small, the history and beauty of the building itself is worth a visit. Dont forget to go to the to floor to see the carvings!
We thoroughly enjoyed this museum which featured several shows of contemporary and past Costa Rican artists. The building itself is lovely and worth the walk through.
I love this museum and the building is also a work of art.
Worth the visit if you’re in the area because it’s free and the upper room is a beautiful representation of Costa Rican history. The garden was also nice. Exhibits inside rotate. There’s also a free parking lot out front, seemed fairly safe.
Beautiful works, very small museum but nice collection. Really nice staff too.
This place is located in La Sabana National Park in San Jose. Interiors are very friendly for kids and any kind of audience. The building is fascinating by itself.
Its a Civic museum which is housed in the old airport terminal. Depending on the art it can be hit or miss. The old airport lounge upstairs is worth the trip. Also its free.
Small museum but well designed exhibits and gorgeous building. Do be aware that the interpretation is primarily in Spanish, so this museum is most interesting if you read some Spanish.
Interesting exhibitions of different styles and techniques... in a European museum there was a cafeteria and/or shop included such a beautiful place
Small but beautiful museum. It show case galleries from local artists. The only that I saw was espectacular. Also, the is the "golden room", a permanent exhibition of a gold-like walls sculptures story telling the history of Costa Rica as a nation.
This was an awesome museum. The building itself was absolutely beautiful and the walls of the Golden Room were fascinating. Would absolutely recommend to anyone with an interest in art or the history of Costa Rica. Its right by a lovely park as well. And the best part of all is its free!!
One of the best museums in San Jose. I would recommend having plenty of time to fully admire the beauty of the exceptional art made by these artists. At first place... it was used to be an airport for San José and which at second place.. the building was taken to work as a museum and the rest of the airport became as a big green area for recreation for Costa Ricans. If you are into art.. you must visit this museum. If you arent into art... you still must visit this museum. It will leave you open-mouthed.
This place is absolutely amazing. Strongly recommend!!! Especially if you’ll be in San Jose. My mother and I went as part of a city tour and were only able to walk through it it for like 25 minutes to take a few photos. They don’t allow videos nor flash. You’ll need at least an hour to take full advantage of it.
This use to be the airport. When I was there the whole thing was close for setting up a new exhibit. I only got to see the history room on the top floor.
Beautiful building. Interesting perspective on Erotic Art. A must visit
This is a great place to visit. It is a beautiful building with lots of beautiful statues and displays. We really enjoyed spending time here. The best part of all is there is no entrance fee to enjoy a wonderful place.
Offering a series of expositions to enjoy different examples of national plastic arts. Impressive and large room upstairs with the history of the country engraved throughout the walls. All of the exhibits are carefully planned, laid out and properly illustrated. Provides a learning opportunity for visitors of all ages.
Marvellous experience! The eye meets the Costa Rican Art Masters and the soul smiles!
