Extensive space museum within a titanium monument honoring the launch of Sputnik 1 & the space age.
Amazing place to explore the history of manmade mission to space and moon. Can see original rockets engine parts and simulator cabin
Museum of Cosmonautics, MoscowDuring the soviet time russia was the center of space technology and exploration. Soviet scientists led by Sergei Korolev opened new frontiers in space. From the labs in siberia to lauch pads in kazakhstan the glorious soviet space age is preserved in this museum in moscow.I found this place very interesting as almost every first satellite to dog to space station that was sent to space is preserved here.Lyka the first dog sent to space has a memorial here and the exact craft that took lyka into orbit is at display.Sputnik the first ever man made object to be in orbit has its replica and the entire history of it can be found here.I got a chance to visit a dummy space staion and see the amenities used by the astronauts with my own eyes.Only few people know like nasa Russia also had their space shuttle known as "burhan" But it never flew from Cosmodrome in kazakhstan.Space capsules that have returned to earth is at display, the black burn out skin of these capsules makes you wonder about the tremendous heat of re entry. Touching that was a dream come true for me.I most most interestingly the space suit of michel Collins is preserved here. Michel Collins was one of the apollo astronauts who flew with neil armstrong and landed on the moon.*Even the first man in space yuri gagarin his space suit and every belongings are here. This place is home to so much knowledge and a chance to see and touch the star stuffs which only can imagine and see on televisions, etc.Hope you guys Enjoy the picsThank you.
Great place for a visit on a cold day:if you just want to look at rockets and stuff it will take you half an hour to walk through the exhibits, but if you want to learn about the Soviet space program and the people behind it and its ideas, you can be there all day;)The ticket thing is a bit tricky but some of the staff is very helpful ...
Still want to Know about History of space exploration better? Then музей Космонавтики have all you need. No place matches.
Read some reviews that said its OK, but just OK. The experience was very different. Firstly, its super easy to get to, right by VDNKh station. Secondly, there are a number of original pieces that are amazing to see in person, from sputnik-1 to the Soyuz descent module and everything in between. This really is a must see if youre in Moscow - I would recommend the audio guide to get a full picture of what youre seeing (very cheap and very informative).
Space adventure history in Russia. It is nice to see Space history from Russia. The exhibition was well organized. It included all indispensable pieces of Russian space adventure history. The environment was so relaxed. The staffs were so chill kind and friendly. Photo ticket is required
Its smaller than expected and suffering from the lack of entertainment. It has the greatest potential to make the completely interactive exposition, but unfortunately only some audio guidance is available for now.Anyway its still the very attractive place to see the wonderful Soviet science and technology.
Very good museum. However, not all descriptions are in English and the audio guide also does not cover everything.
Awesome but most of information sheets are not translated into English or other languages. Definitely a must see when you are in town
If you like space and like to know more about space this is the place for you in Moscow. I really enjoyed it a lot. You need to have a valid Pcr or show you are vaccination in order to enter.
Cool historical museum. Loved how the spaced everything in various rooms with interesting information. The live version was off due to Covid restrictions but all else was great. They even have astronaut food. How Cool!
An amazing experience to see Russian history of space journey and space exploration. Space suits, space shuttles, space technology, astronauts their literature and achievements. I was just mesmerized on witness such huge history which was never told by media. You must explore this museum and witness all that amazing science and technology space journey.
Very good exhibits with many descriptions in English. You can learn about Yuriy Gagarin see the real Sputnik and the reconstructed Mir station. Recommend to everyone who comes to Moscow, if you have time.
A fantastic museum about the conquer of space from mankind. The good thing is that it mentions other nations involved, like USA that landed 1st on the moon, so its not negativity focused only on Russian success. Has a great number of replicas but also authentic spacecrafts and equipment, and a simulator in the entrance of it, which you shouldnt pay to try! Its probably the worst Ive ever tried, and should be removed or replaced by one with decent graphics!
Enjoyed my visit and I got to see the first dogs that went to space and came back! Or at least their bodies. It’s definitely an impressive display, especially for a first time visitor to Russia. I got to visit with a group of students and they seemed to enjoy it as well.
Very interesting museum! I imagine that the idea is to pass the russian pride of the space conquest to the russian nationals, but for us foreigners that visit would be more than happy to be influenced by the stories and history as well, but for that, we would need more translations of EVERYTHING that is in the museum!!😍😍😍😍
If all the texts would have been in English then Id give five stars. Still surprisingly much of the texts were in English which is not too common in Russia. Very interesting museum and the entrance fee is relatively low, so I can strongly recommend this museum.
Rather traditional, but very well organized, covers (mostlyRussian efforts into space discovery. I loved the real size ships, clothes and other equipment all around you, put things into perspective. I would recommend going a bit early, a lot of students invaded the place it can be a bit crowded. You will need about two hours to get well enough scope.
I went without very high expectations because I knew that this wasnt the main museum of cosmonautics. Nonetheless I was blown away. Starting from how the building looked and the statue of Tsiolkovsky everything was perfect. A model of Mir space station with the controls was also present where we could enter and see. Some actual reentry modules were also there with the wear and tear and various spacesuits. Photography is charged and having an obvious foreign face I decided not to risk it by taking photos inside. It is an amazing experience for any cosmos lover and a must have.Edit:Photography is now permitted I believe because during the second visit, everybody was freely taking photos. Also I had the good fortune to take a good look at the artwork of the late Alexei Leonov when the exhibition took place. It was an experience and the curator took some extra time to tell me his stories in space.
Awesome! If you want to learn about Russian aerospace history, don’t go to Wikipedia. There’s no better place to see incredible technology and strength of the Russian spirit than at Russian space museums. In the museum, you basically walk through rooms containing artifacts from mock up space stations, a whole range of satellites to personal belongings of cosmonauts and scientist. You can see exhibits testifying the first achievements and success of national space exploration, including the first spacesuits, the first artificial satellites of the Earth, spacecraft for Moon exploration and exploration of other planets of the solar system.Really special place. The entrance to the museum costs 250 rubles. These are bought in the same ticket offices of the museum (usually there are not many people waiting in line). You can visit the museum in a couple of hours. Most of the signs are in English & Russian so this museum is really accessible.I recommend highly.
Great museum, allways worth a visit! We spent some 3-4 hours there. The museum covers the history of Soviet and Russian space travel with detailed information about the missions and cosmonauts. I kinda missed an analysis "why" space exploration was and is important for Russia (apart from the heroism thingand especially nowadays what they are exploring. The museum mostly focuses on the technology and how everything works. It is still very impressive and most interesting.
You will can experience in a lively exhibition the history of Cosmonauts in the soviet union. A lot to see and explore. Definitely a non-boring museum. Perfectly located if you are anyway on your way to VDNKH
Very well curated chronological history. Has good scaled models, Inspirational extracts of then calculations. Requires minimum 3hours to go through completely.
Definitely worth a trip. Admission is very reasonable (250 rubles). Beautiful from the outside and a good number of displays inside. I would have loved to have spent more time there. Would definitely visit again. Many of the signs had English translation, which was very helpful!
There are some original items and a lots of models on display. It is set up in a way that adults and children can both enjoy it. Some of the captions are only displayed in Russian, which is quite common in Moscow.
It was a very interesting place and offers interactive activities as well. Most displays are in Russian and English and if you take photos with your phone it is for free. If you know more about the Russian space programs history, it would be even more exciting for you to go and see the the models etc. Worth a visit.
Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics is a must see landmark in Moscow. It is very interesting and excited for every one. It will tell the full story of space race between USSR and US. It highlights the most brightest moments in Russian history and humanity.Tip:👉It better to read briefly about the Soviet Space Program in order to understand the timeline of the museum displays.👉 The museum located in suburban away from Moscow center. You can reach there by the tour bus using yellow route.👉 Spare enough time to enjoy the museum experience.
My daughter’s dream is to becoming an astronaut. So love to learn anything about space, NASA and Astronaut. So when I come to Moscow; Museum of Cosmonautics is one of the priority list to visit. It’s fantastic place where we can see and learn the history of the space explorer.
This a great Museum, definitely top 3 on a Moscow must-see-list. Next to NWDH area. Fantastic well-made exposition from early Sputnik period to later manned space-travel. Original spacecrafts next to 1:1 models. Insights in history and biographies of Kosmonauts.
Interesting place, many models exceeded my expectations for the museum. Not all descriptions are in english but we made it without audioguide. Note that there is additional payment for taking pro pics (dslr).
Very nice museum, very informative, not very suited to kids younger than 6-7, as there little on exhibit where you can touch and go inside as opposed to well know space museum in Kaluga.
Its an amazing place to visit in Moscow. The exhibitions are so full and interesting and people can see a big variety of things related to the space exploration. The outside of the museum is also spectacular and offers an amazing view
29/04/2017 and 02/05/2017 - Emblematic museum! I felt so good visiting this place with my Russian and Ukrainian friends. By the way, this museum is located in front of the famous Park VDNKh and there is a metro station into its right side. We paid 250 rubles.
Fantastic museum, entry is not too expensive and there are a lot of very fascinating displays and exhibits.Only thing is that there are a lot of documents and signs that either have a very limited translation into English, or no translation at all.Would be helpful if more of the documents and texts were translated so it could be more accessible for foreign visitors. As it is, a lot of information is in English, but if you do not understand Russian, some of the exhibits will not make any sense.Good souvenir shop too!
Fantastic museum, heaps of artefacts from the history of the space program from current day Russia back to Soviet times, but unfortunately there is a huge lack of information in English. Only in Russian, there is an OK voice guide, but the voice guide just repeats the information from the few plaques that are already in English. There is so much information that looks really interesting but is only in Russian.
I loved the museum and the whole place around the museum! Its a must visit for any one interested in space exploration or history. There are some texts in English but not all. Aim for good weather when you visit because the park is really nice and a walk around it can be very educational as the park is full of statues and historic monuments.
A real informative place for kids and Adults... my favorite was the actual meteor rocks and moon sand apart from that the fact you could buy and try actual food astronauts eat at during there mission was amazing i would highly recommend visiting this place.
An amazing museum contains everything. Though many instruction are in Russian that I dont understand. But still a great place. You can even buy and try space food in the cafe inside the building.
I was very glad to be given the chance to visit this museum. They were all amazing. It was far better than I expected. A lot of thing to see many documents and staff from the era of the USSR and a lot of interesting information about Gagarin and the cosmonauts. It also has a small place that recreates the MIR space station. I recommende to visit it if possible.
Whats goodMost of the artefacts are real from various Russian space missions. The experience was very much real.Whats not goodCould have made space gear available to wear and take pics. What to doThe first floor has more variety. The space station cabin at the end is amazing.
I loved this place. This place offers you with the history of mankinds space exploration programme. The monument to conquerors of space is also here on top of the museum. Tip: dont take the English guided tour but just take an audio guide.
Nice museum. Youll learn some interesting information about Russian cosmonautics. For the most part there is no English translation for the description of the exhibited pieces. We luckily had a Russian host showing us around. The entrance is free on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
Not tourist friendly at all. No one spoke English and almost none of the exhibits had translations on them. Quite dated interior. Also wasnt organized in any apparent way. Building is very impressive from the outside.
This is a awesome place for families. You could see the broad view of Space and understand how the Russia is famous for its space program. One key point is that the bistro in the museum is a delicacy.
The Russian Smithsonian museum, its smaller but interesting. It shows a lot of the unknown soviet space program and all about soviet and contemporary aerospace engineering and sciences. I recommend to go, because its great to know how a country with objectives can reach every point in the cosmos. If you are engineer or want to be, its a good place to get inspired. Its a photogenic place and its situated in a park about the Soviet personalities the are busts about korolev, Gagarin, Tereshkova... It seems is nothing but a great memorial about the Soviet space era but the museum is in the underground part. Be careful about the schedule, there are free cost days.
Amazing place for families with kids. It presents wide and interesting data of cosmonautic history in Russia, curious facts, machines, a cinema room, coffee area and great souvenir shop. Truly recommended. The only particular thing is that if you want to take pictures with pro camera you need to pay an special ticket for being allowed.
I really love this palce,Visited two times, very good collection, can have a good knowledge about history of astronomy. This museum, the only one of its kind, situated inside an enormous monument to the explorers of the cosmos, is well worth the visit, not least for the nostalgia it should inspire in anyone who grew up in the heady days of the space race. The displays trace the history of space exploration, including the first interplanetary satellite flights, the first dogs in space and mans journeys to the cosmos.Theres plenty of fun gadgetry, plus an excellently conceived display explaining how astronauts survive a space flight, all of which should be interesting for children.
Great museum with plenty of historical references to Russias involvement in the space race via scaled and lifesize models of satellites and other paraphernalia. Nice to see acknowledgement of American and small Indian contributions.Loses one star due to lack of English translation for every item. Only the large ones are accounted for but for $5 entry its not regrettable at all. Highly recommended during a brief trip.
Great place to visit if you are interested in science. Visit with people with similar interests otherwise they will force you to come outside of the museum.Place has very good collection placed in chronological order elaborating development of USSR and subsequently Russian and space program. Tickets are cheap and do purchase a audio guide available at the ticket counter (carry headphones).
The history of space. A small museum that provides a great impression of the history of the conquest of space. You can spend a very pleasant couple of hours. There are many scale models and mock ups. It would have been even greater with more full scale exhibits. You need to see one of these rockets from close by to understand how big they are. The monument outside is also very impressive with all its Soviet emphasis and grandeur. The museum its just outside the exit of metro line 6 and very easy to reach.
