Avenija Dubrovnik 17, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia, Zagreb
Contemporary art museum with sometimes provocative multimedia works, plus rooftop exhibits.
Interesting, unique museum that isnt necessarily just about break-ups of romantic relationships. Worth a visit, might be eye-opening for some people to let go of things.
Many exhibitions where under construction. And it would be great if there where more English translations by the description of the art works.
A bit too empty, but nice to visit
Hosts pretty ok contemporary art exhibitions. The permanent collection is decent but nothing spectacular. The architecture of the building is an homage to one of our great modernist artists. Sometimes there are parties on the rooftop. The also have workshops, movie projections (the cinama room is very steep and small)
We visited everything in the museum. 95% was unexceptional. I wish I had invested my time elsewhere. 35Kn entry.
Great spacious gallery, overall a very positive experience :D
So interesting and educational! Not a lot of traffic so you can enjoy the installations
This museum is gigantic!! But sadly it wasn’t completely filled, the normal collection wasn’t even there due to a new director. Although I liked the animation festival exposition it wasn’t as great as I expected.
Without wanting to mislead, Im usually here for diplomatic events. However, this most recent trip I did get to see a nearby exhibit that has me wanting to return for a closer look. Perfect for a day out because youve Bundek so near also. Ask if the slide is open.
An excellent space, missing a bit of soul, narrative, and attention to detail. If you pay attention, you can see that this place has the ingredients to be an excellent contemporary art museum. What is it missing? This museum requires more thinking about the entire museum experience.1. First, the coffee had lightbulbs that have gone out and no one has bothered to fix (or they dont have the money). This was an easy heuristic to gauge the quality of the museum (along with the more minor point that they didn’t carry milk alternatives, which you would think would have been standard at a contemporary art museum cafe).2. The loose ends arent perfectly tied up, there we vast areas that are unopen - which is NORMAL for a contemporary art museum - but theres a bunch of chairs, tools, and tarps just laying around. Again, its these small details you can use to get a sense of the whole exhibition.3. In terms of ART, its all about narrative. The same art with their story told by separate people will MEAN something different. It was difficult to grasp why the various exhibitions were string together, nor was it easy to contextualize why it was important to show me, the viewer.Overall, amazing space, great ingredients, just needs an overhaul/change on execution.Should you go? Sure - but keep your expectations in check - the pieces are interesting, just without a coherent narrative and there are details about the experience that have room for improvement. Maybe hire an experience consultant?
I am not a big fan of modern art and found the exhibits lacking. The building itself is a work of art and while I consider myself an optimist, the building was half empty. Many exhibits were political which I understand but do not partcularly care for. There was an architectural exhibit which consisted of posters of award winning buildings which was interesting.Overall, the building itself is spectacular but I think they need to fill it with more art. No complaints as the entry fee was around $5.While we were there, we noted that a musician was scheduled to perform that night. As an American, I had not heard of JR August. As we sat at the Cafe outside the museum, I heard him warming up. He sounded very interesting so we bought tickets to see him that night and Im glad we did because we really enjoyed his music and we are now fans. His songs are mostly in English and I believe he won the Croatian album of the year in 2020, he greeted fans after the show and was very personable and down to earth. I should mention his fellow musicians were amazing including a choir, two saxophone players, one a flautist, cello player, drummer. So, bottom line is the museum itself is a work of art and a great place to catch a concert or just relax and have coffee.
Impressive architecture and always great exhibitions of contemporary art.
Must for modern artists. Basically only cultural thing in New Zagreb (South of Sava river)
Nice architecture, has a... slide😂?A lot of place for exhibitions of any kind.
Great presentation of Zuvela, average exhibition on war, an easy way to react on the situation.
I liked the way exhibitions were designed, thought of, and set. Interesting topics and engaging for senses set up.
Dont waste your time. Its very far away from everything and its empty. No collections no expositions. Just one small room with one piece. Sad that such a huge museum its wasted with nothing in it.
Not what I expected - the museum is half closed, no real exhibits, just photos. I believed the good reviews saying that the museum is huge. Now it doesn’t worth its money (60 kuna). Do not recommend. Tried to make a refund saying that nobody informed me that museum is not working on its full potential, the staff member said that I didn’t ask what’s working or not…
There are amazing exhibitions if you have enough time to go through all of them slowly and think about each art piece, it requires some thinking and does not have a stable meaning, each art piece is a subjective experience that you can assign a subjective interpretation to. A lot of empty space, though, Im curious to see where the museum will go. Worth a visit, especially the "I.J. Pino: Gesamtkunstwe kr(i)vi i popela"
Such a sad experience for a national museum. We were shocked to find the worst national museum. The entire display was one room with photographs from the 1960s. Where is the national art collection? Did the horrible communists take the art with them 42 years ago? Fill the place with at least the university students art, I am sure there are Croatian artists to celebrate, I just do not understand this place. No parking garage was built for this Soviet looking building perhaps knowing they will not have a parking problem?
The worst museum i have ever visited. Only two exhibitions was allowed. The rest was under construction. Payed 120 kn for two persons. Was not aware of that almost 60% of museum is unavailable. Don’t come here. Money for garbage :(
Nice place Museum of Modern Art. Good location as far as the public transportation is concerned, buses and trams from various parts of Zagreb and beyond. Near by is shopping center Avenu Mall.
Museum is good but you need to arm yourself with patiente if you are looking for a cup of coffee too..
Visited great retrospective for one of the most prominent Croatian contemporary art sculptors of the 2nd half of the 20th century who was still very fresh in his ideas in his late life, first 20 years on 21st century - Ivan Kožarić. Museum is quite spacious and gives visitors enough room to focus on art pieces.
The exhibitions were a very interesting look into Croatian contemporary art – particularly the retrospective on Ivan Kožarić (until 31 October, 2021).Unpretentious, amicable museum in a large building. Bear in mind one of the exhibits was only available in Croatian (but still, staff is very helpful when asked questions).
This is a big house, but most of the exhibition space is unused and closed for visitors. The pieces that are on display are not very pleasing. But Art means something else for everyone. In my world this was a waste of time.
The museum is empty of people, lots of empty floor space and barely any visitors. In total, there are only two exhibitions. Enough for at most a 30 minute visit and none of the works are particularly good or interesting (but thats a matter of personal opinion and taste). I wouldnt recommend this, unless theres some new exhibitions added...
A great, monumental structure in Novi Zagreb with endless possibilities for exhibitions, installations, concerts, promotions and presentations! Built by those "terrible communists" as most other good and nice things in most ex Yugoslav countries.
The Museum of Contemporary Arts it is located in a modern building with amazing exhibitions of local and international artists. It is a good place to have fun during the day. And it also works on Sundays. It is a good option to go out in Zagreb while most of the city is out of places to have fun due to the pandemic covid.
If you you have time visit it. There are interesting things to see and the mussum its self is a arhitectural masterpiece. Definitely a place to go even if its not in a center if town.
Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, is one of the best places I think I had the chance to visit. It is an architectural award-winning building. When you complete your sightseeing tour and come to the gift shop at the exit, you will understand that success of the design. Because they successfully provided the viewer circulation in the galeries with a great design. You can also see some three-dimensional works in three dimensions through open spaces between floors. Only the "Contemporary Art" part is a bit behind. It is definitely a museum to visit.
The building itself is a pretty nice work of architecture. The content was interesting as well. Worth a visit on a slow day.
The normal collections were closed but there is a superb temporary exhibition of Davor Vrankič.
Beautiful place to visit. Should have free entrance as should all the museums in Zagreb.
Intersting museum in new part of zagreb, near river Sava. Not far from railway station. Could see most of famous croatian, regional and few international contemporary artists. Take minimum 2hrs, otherwise you ll run
Modern art at its peak, contemporary exhibits, always some new artists works and some permanent. Worth seeing.
Amazing building. We didn’t see much of the collection as we were there for a concert but what we did see was great.
Lovely place. Big and with WiFi. Great for kids and a day trip. This art is not for everyone. Prices are OK..
A very nice gallery with some very interesting pieces . Quite big so I didn’t manage to see everything . Most of the gallery assistants were lovely and informative . One I found intimidating and told me I wasn’t allowed to go into an exhibition which was very clearly open
A barn of a building that luxuriates in the space it affords it permanent collection. 40 Luna entrance is well worth a wander around.
Gorgeous museum with a permanent collection thats well worth the entrance fee (only 30knand currently an absolutely insane temporary exhibit on hyperrealism. An absolute must when youre in Zagreb!
Number 1 place for all of your retro avant-garde needs. Most iconic figures like Malevich with his black square is on permanent residency here. Helpful info and staff. Nice gift shop with and beyond exhibit material, not to mention a lot of unusual gift options.
Interesting pieces with Croatian artists. Very wide space tackling varied themes.
a place to go in zagreb!v friendly for international touristsspent there 4,5h and still I had to skip few videos!bistro inside with nice food, so go support the museum by eating there!accessible on foot from city center (a really nice walkand with good tram connection!
A 35 min tram ride (nr 6from the center of town. Not crowded at all, very modern building. Unfortunately the slide to exit was closed, possible due to rain. Contemporary art installations, with a focus on Croatian artists. Well worth the trip, great place.
If youre into Contemporary art, this is a great spot!! The traveling installment was really cool and really trippy, left us feeling really weird and amazed. The other "dont miss" was the exhibit of the abused women... Wow. That was very sad and emotional, but done so well. We spent about 2-3 hours here, including our visit to their cafe for coffee and snacks.
Unusual and engaging contemporary art. Check out the work of the Nove Tendencije movement and contrast it with what modern Croatian artists are doing.
I spent a couple of pleasant hour in the museum. Other reviews are right, this place could much more to the visitors. Very nice for kids (and not only them!the two slides that take you out of the museum from different floors.
The building is quite impressive both from inside and outside. However, the orientation is at least poor. You cannot easily spot the entrance and inside the building there is not any signage or a printed map that shows you around. The frond desk guy was almost rude and not helpful at all. It is quite difficult to spot any guards and if you are lucky they do not seem to have any interst in being helpful. The exhibitions were apparently interesting hut do not go beyond the typical "white cube" example. In any case it is worth going!
Great exhibits and totally worth visiting. Especially for the double-helix slide exit!
