Outstanding museum with artefacts from middle east, far east, India, North America, nigeria,Cambridgeshire, Roman empire. Well laid out and presented in 3 levels

An antidote to shopping. A visual feast of culture with the Canadian totem rising over two floors being a highlight. We also enjoyed the colour display which provided a good insight into the scientific and cultural importance of colour all wonderfully curated. Oh, and there’s a shop, selling some very beautiful but reasonably priced craft items.

Free museum, great to see the artefacts and good to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cambridge for a bit.

Very interesting museum to visit with your little ones.. From Mayan culture to American Indian, Egyptian to Japanese many things can be seen. Children can optionally get a paper with some objects to find in each floor of the museum and they like it so much. Also colouring figures with crayons were nice. Toilets were clean and spacey to go in with your child..

It is a free museum and there is a lot here but not ton of explaining or maps to tell you where you are. It is ok to visit but you not going to entertain the kids thereAs an aside, I went in with a big 45l bag and that was fine but the coke in unopened bottle meant I had leave that bag at the door.

Great activities for children of all ages. Lots to see and do.

The oldest potatoes that I ever saw. I like the arrangements of antiques based on regions, then based on years. Thanks to staffs, the smiles on their face are shining.

Like a mini Pitt Rivers in Oxford but with less investment and not as child friendly. Toilet facilities are very poor the cleaner has removed the surfaces of the taps to the point they look unhygienic lets hope conservation team a little gentler! The huge kayaks and totem poles are really fascinating and the labelling generally insightful.

Absolutely fantastic museum! Such an interesting place with artefacts from all over the world, and very respectful towards former colonies and acknowledges Britain’s colonial past well. Absolutely fascinating and loved exploring all around the exhibits! Great museum and staff, well worth a visit!

The staff here were very kind and helpful and the museum itself great . I came specifically to see Indigo Jones screen from Winchester Cathedral which was fantastic so pleased to have seen this . I love the Cathedral itself and could visualise this in situe.But there is so much more of interest from all over the world .The gold Cross and pins found in a Anglo Saxon village burial in Trumpington of a teenage girl was amazingly only found in 2011 . The cross identified her as from an important family and as a Christian convert . They are beautiful and our ancestors such talented craftsmen .The Haida Totem Pole from British Columbia was gigantic . If I had bumped into this in the dark I would have swam back to the UK in no time .The pecalang of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman was frightening looking too as it was meant to be I presume as a guardian of a village Temple .These were just my favourite picks but having said that its not right to choose really as all the displays were fantastic .Well worth the time most educational .

Personally, love these temples of knowledge where you may wander for hours surrounded by the presence and stories of entire populations that are no more. Its like looking back to who we were and it gives me hints about who we are now.

My experience here was pleasant. The museum is quite smaller than I was expecting but theres a nice collection with diverse objects from all over the world. Not surprising, there were ex-colonies in the past. Clean, organized and with a staff very friendly. Definitely a must visit if youre in Cambridge.

A very diverse selection of artefacts, some very local and many from all over the world, with the history of each object presented in the context of its colonial history and acquisition.

In this period there is the exhibition "Entanglements: colonial collections in decolonial times" on early 20th century anthropological surveys in Western Africa.Ticket is free.

Its a small museum but doesnt take away from the depth and width of their artifacts and history. Did a great job applying a critical lens to the study of archeology and Anthropology while also displaying historical pieces with narratives. I think its a must see for people visiting the city, and wont take more than an hour to explore! Kids might get a little bored, but its a great learning experience.

Spend around 1.5 hour there. Not a large museum but with informative exhibition and friendly staff.

Great exhibition, friendly staff and well-organised and kept museum. Its not large, therefore we took it easy and completed in about 1.5-2 hours. Toilets are open and little museum shop can be found on the ground floor.On the second floor theres a large table set up for kids with pencils, crayons and colouring books that our little son enjoyed a lot.I can recommend!

Interesting museum in a beautiful old building with some really great items on display. Make sure you take the time to go upstairs to see the main hall and totem poles.

Beautiful and surreal

A quite small museum, but packs some nice variety of historical displays, and exhibitions. Unique, and interesting museum, plus the entrance is for free to visit, and explore with your families, and friends.

Very informative, its amazing how ordinary we are now compared to the ancient ingenuity and craftsmanship. Thank you "colonial masters" for preserving these treasures for prosperity!

Cant believe they had artifacts from Captain James Cooks early voyages!It was fascinating! Make sure to book during the pandemic. Online usually sold out but if you pop in, they will try and sort you in a slot that is cancelled by others.

Interesting, free and does not need too much time if you are not too much into museums.

A good place to spend one hour or two exploring the wonders of the different peoples living around the world.

Brilliant museum enjoyed walking around could have spent more time lift to all floors.

Really interesting. Had some lovely artifacts in there and lots of information to read, videos to watch and the curators were fountains of knowledge. To top it off its free. What more could you ask for.

Like the other museum in UK, this museum is also free! You can learn the past history and archaeological artefact that are found in UK. It’s both entertaining and educative. My favourite reading is in the Jurassic era. Some of the artefact were donated or founded in the coast of UK and the others came from global donation. I like it!

A small enough place but packs a lot in. I heard a guide say they only have 0.05% items on display at any 1 time which is a bit of a shame. They divide sections into different countries and give some background on it and the people/tribes/ethnic groups from there. Its showing its age but there was a sign stating they will be upgrading soon so hopefully it gets a good facelift

I was fairly intrigued by their collection, however, I did not feel like it was complete yet. Id love to have had more of those information stands/plates around the museum. On the other hand, the collection was quite extensive and I believe it to be a very interesting and captivating museum. Definitely a must-see when visiting Cambridge!

Lots of interesting artefacts and items in here. Theres plenty of stuff from all over the world ranging from a samurai outfit to a rather large totem pole. Not a large museum, but still a nice place to while away an hour or so.

If you have a couple of hours to spare and its raining outside, then this museum should automatically go to the top of your list. Its small but jam packed with artifacts and interesting exhibits. Could do with a bit of modernising/updating (especially the lighting and interior decor- but I guess they want to keep that quaint look. There is a toilet as well.

Looked good but we were thwarted each time we tried to visit. On first occasion, 2nd Jan we were told by staff they were closing because it was “freezing”. 3rd Jan still closed, understandably as boiler would need some time to be fixed. We gave it a couple of days but still closed when we came in to Cambridge again on the 5th to read a new, updated sign on the locked door. Funnily enough it refers to a website which already told us it was open!

A fairly small collection, but from a great range of different cultures. Information could be presented more clearly.

I believe, this is the best museum in Cambridge.The first and second floor exhibit a very interesting and well documented collection of artefacts from Asia, Africa, Oceania and America. Its a real delight to spend hours looking at impressive relics and reading about culture and traditions.Definitely my favourite museum in Cambridge and a place I always bring visiting family and friends, and its free (donations welcome).

Really quite excellent, lovely collection, well documented exhibits for the most parts.Some finds presented with little context but listed as so. Lots of artifacts that are difficult to find examples of in other museums anymore. Excellent pre-lunch museum, you can probably get through it in a leisurely fashion in two hours.Gift shop doesnt have much that relates directly to the museum though.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Interesting collection of various cultural objects. As we are from NZ, really enjoyed the Maori exhibitions. Top marks for childrens activity sheets and tables.

I visited the museum twice in late May 2014 and was very impressed by the exhibits on the 2nd floor, which included a variety of cultural material. I was particularly impressed to see material from North American and New Zealand collected by Captains Cook and Vancouver. There were some very fine Northwest Coast Indian pieces (a copper, an amazing grease bowl, a fine carved box, a large Haida totem pole), some very good Eskimo objects from Alaska, and some really fine New Guinea and Polynesian objects. Good Saami material. The exhibits were reasonable with good, readable labels. The attraction was the objects. The admission price (freewas also much appreciated. Staff and attendants were friendly and helpful. I have since checked their website, hoping to find more images of their collection, and was disappointed. Overall I am delighted that I decided to visit this museum.
