Hardly worth visiting. Poor information for an non Spanish speaker, although you can get some info on wifi unfortunately the signal is bad so it cuts out half way. Didnt really rate the exhibits but we may be spoilt by having been in Mexico City. Nothing on the archeological area around Merida. No cafe.

Excellent exhibit on art and culture of an ancient civilization contemporary with but different from the Maya. Included great images and explanations of the actual archaeological dig. Another exhibit of an individual mans collection of mesoamericana . Very informative. QR code gets you the main captions in English.

I had not expected to find a museum with exhibits dedicated to indigenes from an area other than the Yucatan, but I was not disappointed by the depth of the exhibits. Although the exhibit details were only in Spanish, they were easy to understand. The building is spectacular both interior and exterior. The art on the top floor was very colorful but the subject matter was a bit jarring m

The building is nice, European style architecture, but unless you want to look at some old bowls and not a whole lot else (there were some small sculptures which were quite interesting, hence the 2 stars rather than 1I would give this one a miss. I saw everything in like 20 minutes. Maybe us gringos stole all the interesting stuff for our own museums

Beautiful building but disappointed exhibits. 1st floor limited archeological and anthropological exhibits. 2nd floor is a small portrait gallery. All was quiant but small. Good for 30 - 45 minutes of your time. They really could do much more in this space. The building itself is beautiful.

I believe the purpose of the museum needs to be more clearly started at the start. Not recommended for anyone who doesnt speak advanced Spanish.

Just look at the building from the outside. The exhibition inside is really small and not worth the entrance fee.

Probably the most dull museum Ive ever been to. Staff seem to have given up on life. Bathroom dirty. No effort made for non-Spanish speakers to understand or learn anything, assuming there is something of interest to learn. Was not free however was only $85Mex. Very disappointed.

Very informative, its only in Spanish so you may want to read up or use Google translate, word recognition. You can see it all in less than 3 hours, you can cross Montejo and there are juice bars, Marquesitas, this is a beautiful area to walk down the Paseo Montejo. You can pick up a horse drawn carriage.

Great museum. It has 2 exhibits: one about local anthropology and the other about the history and collection of local artifacts. Both fascinating. Nothing in English so bring your phone with Google Translate and use the lens feature. It was great

Wrongly advertised to be open and no clear directions on where the entrance is. We ended up getting fully drenched in the rain trying to figure that out. The management needs to get it together. They’re putting a bad light on the history and culture of this place .

Warning: advertised as being “open” but is not. Stopped by after 10am on Tuesday, Feb 8 (during hours it’s advertised as being openand it was closed. No signage in any language on the entrance indicating such either. Other reviews indicate the same issue; should have read them before going. Would have been nice for them to tell people, especially after walking through a rainstorm to get there…

One of the poorest museums I have ever seen. The palace around it is not uninteresting, but the exhibition is not worth to visit, unless you have special interests. Loveless pictures of people a foreinger will not know, some broken pottery, some video presentation. Dont get me wrong, if you are into this - 5 Stars! But that was kind of waste of time.

Welcome to a nice small museum with a good exposition on two floors. It‘s a short 30 minutes visit to habe a look at what they present. Ticket is 65$. For whatever reason they spray your backpack from all sides(!and ask you to carry it in front of you. No one was able to explain why. Only statement was that this is their politics. You get to know it once you paid for the ticket. By the way, most of the exhibits are presented in large glass boxes.

This building is beautiful inside and out. Admission is free for those with an INAPAM card. There is an English guide to the exhibits...you scan the QR code to get it. The exhibits on the ground floor about ancient Maya hieroglyphic writing are very interesting. The exhibit of contemporary Mayan stitchery and fashion design is showcases current artists.

Nice museum, there’s not much information in English but my favorite part was the top floor to see embroidery art that’s very cool. The Mayan exhibit is decent, I just had a hard time understanding because there was not translation in English. I wish I knew how to read in Spanish!

Hilarious that the more recent negative reviews are written by people complaining about the signs not being in English. A. You are in Mexico, not in America. B. At the entrance of the museum there are very clear signs (written in Englishwith the link to a free English audio tour.Anyways, I really enjoyed this museum. The actual building is gorgeous, and there was a fantastic exhibit on a local female artist that blew my mind. The downstairs is dedicated to Mayan history. Defintiely check this out if you are in Merida. Dont let the ignorant comments dissuade you.

Out of all the museums that I visited in Merida, this is my least favorite. They have some interesting artifacts, but everything was in Spanish. The cashier is very unfriendly, does not seem to want to sell me the ticket because I did not have the exact cash. The person who helped me checked in my purse was very helpful. The city museum of Merida has very friendly staff and also the entrance is free.

A lovely place to visit a very complete anthropological museum. The house is 100 years old, it’s beautiful. The exhibition is about Mayan hieroglyphs. I really recommend it. The entrance ticket is really cheap in comparison to what you can find in other places.

This place is so very beautiful, and you can stroll by it as many times as you want during your time in Paseo Montejo. Really, its an architectural dream. For the museum, they have special pandemic hours, and I would advise you to check out their social media for any changes. As of January 2021, they are open Monday - Friday from 10am to 5 pm, so your last chance to go in is 4:30 pm.They take your temperature and they even gifted me some lovely postcards.

The entrance to the place is very economical and they didnt charge us more for being foreigners. The museum has a rich collection of Mayan artifacts, as well as works of art and sculptures of all kinds. The only thing I would like is to give some maintenance to some areas that already look worn out over time. The rest is very good

A must-see while in Mérida. This museum is a lovely collection of artifacts in an old colonial mansion. The focus is largely on the pyramids and how they featured in the lives of the ancient people of the Yucatan peninsula, along with various other interesting pieces. Upstairs there is artwork, photography, video and books which discuss the pyramids and ancient ways of life. The museum is small, and has a fair entry price of M$60.

Beautiful mansion turned museum! The Maya exhibit was excellent, there were so many unique artifacts from all over Mexico. The architecture alone is magnificent, truly a must see if you are in the area. My family and I were only able to see the first floor, so we are looking forward to going back and seeing the rest of the museum soon!

Its a beautiful building but there is not so much to see inside anymore. They didnt even charge for the museum as there are just a couple of things to see, most of the stuff has been taken to the other museum, Mundo Maya. However, there are still some nice and interesting things to see. (In Sept. 2018)
