Applied arts museum with ancient & modern artifacts, from Japanese pottery to Bauhaus furniture.
I didn’t visit the museum yet cause I arrived too late for it to be worth it to see all the exhibitions. However, I visited the Frei Raum which is great as a workplace and I visited the store which had a really nice selection of books, really cool!! I’ll go back for sure to visit the exhibition!
The "orange canteen" from the old Spiegel offices was my highlight.
Always good surprises. Always new things. I recommend also with kids there is a space for the small ones and the bigger can find the exhibition interesting.
Great museum with a nice mix of old pieces and new thought provoking exhibitions. For example when we visited there was a whole room of period claviers and pianos, an exhibition on homelessness and the fabulous Spiegel canteen. If you have an interest in architecture, arts and crafts this is a must. 👍
Great, creative childrens area in the basement!
Me gusta tu! Diverse collections of art pieces, recommended!
The exhibitions were okay, nothing special. But the main reason for the bad review is just how impolite the staff were. The museum closed at 18, but already at 17.30 the staff started telling us that they were closing and some exhibitions were closed. At 17.45 a staff member started turning off the lights when I was still in the room and he turned off the screens so I couldn’t see the art.Even the shop turned of their lights after they had yelled at us that they were closing in five minutes.Completely ridiculous behaviour and very bad service. Will not come back.
Very big museum, you wont be able to see everything at once if you are taking your time and enjoying. They have a quite big collection of East-Asian art, some Art Nouveau, Egyptian, Renaissance and Greek art. You can also discover some modern art, photography, furniture, .... really a lot of different things for every taste.
Art was great, staff at reception extremely rude.
This place cought my attention and i visited just a 20/30% of museum. History of humanity, philosophy, those things making this place top-3 museum that i were into
Very interesting museum with different collections to see. Not the nicest neighborhood but the items in the museum were worth the trip
A must in Hamburg. The German version of the V&A in London. It wont disappoint!
Huge museum, everyone will find at least one interesting exhibition. Recommend!
Went for the seven women in fashion exhibit. It s fantastic. Not to be missed if youre into fashion and clothing, and their place in history.
Its an amazing collection, impossible to see it all in one visit. My favourite galleries were those of ancient Greek vases and Art Nouveau. Do not miss it!
I think I spent about four to five hours in this museum. The museum shop was also amazing with lots of variety and amazing products.
An outstanding museum with a vast collection. Easy to spend a day at. Very conveniently located, right to the subway.
Really enjoyed exploring this museum. Wonderful artworks with Studio Drift and the Pantone Cantina as my personal highlights.Oh and the restaurant serves a very tasty buffet lunch 😋
Fir parents in the basement you find a kids Paradise. There are a lot of possibilities. Making stop trick. Unluckily the technic is so old that u cannot download it. My TIP is, shoot a video with your smartphone. it us great place to stay with your kids so u can do an agreement with them a while play paradise and a while exhibition for u 😁😊👍🏾 a good Deal or? Comment the directory they shall renew it, technicaly. The exhibition are always very interesting. A nice place to be 👌🏾👏🏾
Great museum with wide selection of items.
Not kids friendly. Staff members (security, receptionwere really rude towards 1 y o child. No laughing, no being loud. Really disappointed overall
Loved the museum which has so many different types of sections and you can easily spend 4 hours going through them. A must visit among the many Hamburg museums.Another nice thing is they have kept small seating areas for the guests in every other section as its helpful to relax in between ☺️
Too many photos to share. The tickets are definitely worth it.but route is not clearly marked, sometimes a little bit overwhelmed😅But the collection is wonderful and I can say that some parts from China are even better than what i seen in China.
I absolutely loved it! I didnt imagine there would be art pieces from all over the world so I was very pleasantly surprised. The rules for visitors within the museum were very strict but understandable. A great visit!
Its always a pleasure to visit this museum. It also has one of my favorite little art bookshops, alongside Londons Tate Modern and the Serpentine Gallery ones.
Brilliant experience for families and adults. Really enjoyed the variety of exhibitions and the kids had plenty to do. Highly recommend. Price for family two kids 24€ more than reasonable
I was a bit disappointed... The exhibitions seemed a bit random, it felt like they had some amazing pieces so they just put one in each room without having any kind of a storyline between them. I missed also having maps on the wall between exhibitions. Some pieces were very nice, so still worth going, but not a very nice experience...not a museum for you to loose yourself into.
Very nice museum with some veryinteresting exhibition. The only drawback I can mention was the fact that all part of the museum was not open.
This museum surpassed my expectations by far, even with some closed exhibits. I came expecting to spend 1-2 hours and left almost 4 hours later. Their collection is impressive and well organized. The information provided with the collection items is interesting and informative. Their special exhibits were fun and relevant and engaging. I will absolutely visit again the next time Im in Hamburg.
Wide variety of exhibits, reaching from historical instruments and religious art over to modern design.Would definitely recommend visiting this museum because whatever youre interested in, you likely find an exhibit that youll like.Enjoyed visiting it a lot, the "Heimat" part is well done and worth watching.
An excellent and diverse collection with a lovely staff. The only thing I didnt understand was the self-serving restaurant—strange dishes tailored for the select few—no Maestro or Credit Cards. For foreigners, cash only.Start at the top floor and work your way down.
excellent exposure. very high quality selected exhibits and their presentation
Very interesting museum. A pity the surroundings make you feel a little unsafe
Very wide range of exhibitions. From ancient art to modern graphic design!
This museum blew me away, I didnt expect it at all. Take what you think of an impressive art trough the ages museum and give it steroids. There was actually well implemented vr, animation, mixed media, everything was so cool.I definitely recommend this to everyone and anyone!
This is an amazing collection with the oldest piece in the museum dated back to 4000 years BC. I ended up spending 4 hours engrossed in the exhibits and it still wasn’t enough. The classical instrument collection was incredible - really really breathtaking. It’s a great flow through the museum with plenty of interactive exhibits
Amazing Collection covering arts and artifacts from around 1000 bc onwards. Ranging from music instruments, to statues, to a fantastic samurai collection. Islamic, and Jewish halls with relics on display. Must visit. Highly recommended.
Lovely museum, I went in the late afternoon and spent a couple of hours here, various different exhibits from old classical pianos, to a exhibit on the evolution of photography. There is lots to be seen here.
Good display in pleasant space. Showcase quality and unique items. You can play some of the musical instruments on display.
Extremely interesting museum with so much to see that it would take several days to take it all in. The combination of arts and trade offers several ways of exploring the rich history of German and European art. Excellent presentation with lots of visual and auditive information as so often in a German museum. The collection of historical keyboard instruments (including harpsichords and pianofortesis extensive and world-famous.
Interesting museum combining art with history exhibits, from art, design, furniture of different epochs and counties to pop-art, advertising and media. Can keep you occupied for 2-3 hours for sure.
Very interesting place! Very friendly staff, photographs and pictures are allowed, just no flash. The place has a lot of interesting exhibits, across time, and cultures. Theres older and more modern exhibits, lots of very interesting Renaissance sculptures and other modern art as well. There was a display about companies and their advertisement art style. There was 3 levels with at least 2 independent sections per level. Also very close to the bahnhof so great place to stop by to kill a couple hours before taking a train.
Really enjoyed a quick visit before we flew home. Loved seeing all the exhibitions and chatting with the talented craft folk who were there.
Some outstanding examples of decorative art and craft are here. The entire museum has the best vibe of any that we have experienced; you really get a sense that life is being lived to its full potential within these walls. One visit will not let you be able to appreciate every on offer.
everytime I went there, there was a different photo exhibition. As a simple individual who doesnt know much regarding art, these photo exhibition selections made me feel and think a lot.So I would really recommend this art museum especially for this part.
A place not to be missed since it offers educational, experimental, informational and foresighted exhibitions throughout the years.Even the cafe food was a good catch! One would definitely be recommended to spend the entire morning here!
Went here today (Ostermontagit was really nice. Loved The Polaroid Project. The museum was quiet and not many people at all. Perfect. Staff was friendly.
great museum to spend a day indoors on one of those rainy hamburg days
Visited on a Sunday morning after discovering all the shops were closed! It was pretty quiet and the staff were friendly. Feel its pretty good value at 12 euro a ticket. I particularly enjoyed the fashion, jewellery and photography and my highlight was the gallery devoted to cat pictures!
Interesting artwork, lots of different displays, good gift shop with huge wall of stationary and postcards.
