4 Sanam Chai Rd, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200, Thailand, Nakhon Pathom
Museum in a 19th-century building with hands-on exhibits & programs exploring the country's history.
Awesome place to get to know about Thailand. This is kind of exhibition museum rather than normal museum. You must come visit here, really!
nice place to visit. the best for museum in bangkok
Very interesting musuem, set in a nice historic buidling. Showcase the culture, food, fashion and beliefs of Thailand people in a fun way.Well recommended.
Beautiful museum! I was here for the Bangkok Biennale 2022.. a must visit!
Highly recommend as part of core things to visit when in Bangkok! Museum is really well done and a great interactive experience.
Great location and accessible via MRT, nice setup and museum establishment
I must say i did not really understand the exhibition. And I am so old that i dont like information from QR codes.I want everything presented for me in written text without the use of a phone.
Worth a trip. Close to national museum, grand palace and wat pho.Lunch at the museum restaurant is highly recommended; great ambiance and delicious food. Service is good but slooooow so take your time. You will enjoy it.
What a gorgeous place dedicated to the exploration of "Thainess", its origin and subculture. Make sure you catch the show on the 3rd floor.
The ticket is 100 THB. For thai people, not sure how.much for The Foreigner.Theres always an exhibition in front of the museum I love the idea of that.In the back of the museum also have the mini concert sometimes and also you can find some food and drink here.Inside a museum is different in each room you can learn about Thai history, Thai culture and Thai language. This is a cool place you must visit I recommend. Please do not go with the car is traffic jam and you can not find the car park easily you better take the MRT and drop of at Sanamchai Station Exist 1.
Walking distance from the Grand palace. Give yourself 2-3 hours to explore the museum. Accessible by several buses.
Beautiful place but way too expensive. Half of the things were closed for entrance.Beware of the Audioguide scam: they charge 200bht for the equipment but you only have 90 minutes to use it. They charge you other 200bht if you return it later than specified. The place is so big and you obviously cant make it in only 90m unless you run and dont enjoy it. Its a total ripoff!
Its about pop culture of modern Thailand. Extremely superficial. Youd better visit a shopping mall. This is not the place for you to get to know Thai history and culture.
Its a great place to learn more about Thai history in a fun and educational way. Totally worth visiting. You even get a free audio guide. Recommended time about 2 hours to fully explore everything.
worth going, not childish if your museum taste is interactive + cultural rather than seeing relics behind glasscheap ticket fee, friendly staff, thai people can have picnic on the yard in front of the museum building
This museum is interesting for kids, I have found it quite childish. The way it explains topics as well as the core concept of the museum, "thainess" seems quite irrelevant. Imagine a museum of britishness or frenchness, it feels very propagandistic. Would not recommend it, it has been quite a disappointment.
This is the WORST national museum I have ever been too. If you like history or culture, then DONT GO! You can learn more in any various way you choose, watch a film, sit on a street corner, ask someone who doesnt know anything about Thailand.....
I really enjoyed my visit to this museum, the main exhibit is an exploration of Thainess via food, culture, history, dress etc. The audio guide is free and takes you around each room of interactive exhibits that highlights a different factor in making Thailand Thailand. I would highly recommend, even if you arent a fan of museums generally, as it is far from the traditional, looking at dusty items collected long ago, type of museum.
A nice museum trying to describe the Thai culture in a nice interactive way. You get to understand a bit more about the background and environment of the Thai people at a glance. The place greatest advantage is that the children can explore freely the place, open drawers, touch toys and so on. So its a nice break from the multiple temples they see here. There is a photoshoot place with traditional clothing at the end that is very nice. The drawback is the limited language selection they offer and the unclear and unfocused explanation in English, overall after walking around the museum for a few hours I feel that I learned very little since the provided info was vaguely explained, with multiple words saying pretty much the same thing. :(Tips: You are not allowed to bring drinks into the museum. The museum tour will take about 2 hours There are about 5 available language tutorials in english and 4 other languages via earphones for free. There is no food inside the museum but on the entrance there is a toast and coffee stall. It is a good idea to combine this activity with the sleeping Buddha temple that also is not too long. This activity would not be interesting for adults without children.
Great museum explaining Thai culture and history.
What is "Thai-ness" or to be Thai? This fun interactive museum explores that question and shares many experiences that create modern Thailand. Set in a large historical building, you can wander in and out of galleries on multiple floors. Most every gallery has interactive components from comparing Thai foods mounted in bowls on the wall, to sitting at school desks while a video teacher at the front of the classroom teaches Thai writing. A number of the exhibits were popular culture based from animated characters to street fashion. Entry fee and audio tour earphone collection is on the ground floor, exhibits are on floors 2 and 3. After your tour, wander the grounds around the museum, there is a nice cafe tucked in the back corner that serves coffee and drinks, is a great place to sit under the trees, and also contains some interesting artifacts and photos.
A fascinating museum and recently renovated. A beautiful building with some clever and thoughtful displays and exhibition spaces.Staff members were helpful with pretty good English and an excellent shop with quality products.Highlights focused on Thai food, fashion, the origins and evolution of the Thai language and script, and repeated explanations of “Thainess”. If you’re in the area looking at Wat Phra Khaew (Grand Palaceand Wat Pho, then do take the time to wander the halls of this museum.
We visited on July 28th, 2022 which was a public holiday as it was the King’s birthday. The entry was free.I loved the museum overall but it’s more focused on What is Thai and What is not. I was hoping to see some old invaluable artefacts. It’s great though. Recommended for families especially.
Quite ordinary, but with a supprisingly good show on the history.
very interesting. Discover everything that makes the Thai identity. Very instructive and fun. A very contemporary scenography on 3 floors. Superbly renovated building. Close to Wat Pho above a MRT station and in the same avenue as the Royal Palace. Icing on the cake, a very pleasant coffee shop in the middle of the Park. Like the Thais go there
Visited in 11 June 2022. The museum is housed in a big campus and plenty of food & drink options were available. We witness a music band performance.Museum Siam was established in 2008 to be a model for a modern learning centre. By presenting the story of Thais from past to present through the combination of media and a variety of technologies which is considered to help enhance the education of Thai people. Especially the visitors who are in their childhood and youth will have the opportunity to learn Thai History creatively. The Museum consists of 3 parts including a permanent exhibition, rotating exhibition and creative learning activities.
This is a pretty small museum (expect to spend 1-2 hours herewhich has a number of innovative exhibits in styles I have rarely seen elsewhere. Some good locations to take memorable photos.A lot of the museum is really focused on defining the Thai identity so theres quite a number of items you wouldnt normally expect to see in a museum. Not a lot of ancient artifacts. Most of the museum is thankfully air conditioned, although the halls are not. Come after a meal as they dont really have any food options on site.
Had an amazing visit. Its interactive and fun. I learned a lot. I even got to try on some traditional royal clothing and took photos infront of scenery. I fully recommend and for only 100 Baht you get headphones with a guided tour in English plus a locker to leave your bag. An amazing visit.
The Museum Siam (Siam Museumis close to the BTS Sanam Chai station. Its wonderful to swing by and discover Thai historical stories. Many language audios are available for rental. The Arabic numerals are a little bit tiny to indicate where you are. The remainder is well worth the journey.
music in the garden or special event is nice here.surely, exhibit insite is a must
A small but very enjoyable museum that aims to help guest understand Thainess ความเป็นไทย. Beautiful building in a location close to other attractions like Grand Palace and Reclining Buddha. Its cheap for everyone and the staff are very helpful and kind! I loved it!
A detailed, and air conditioned museum with helpful guides. There are quite comprehensive exhibits, along with several interactive exhibits in both English and Thai. There is also an audio guide available along with museum materials (of good quality). It also has a nice lawn with a few small vendors to hang out at as well if you are so inclinedThe entrance fee is 100bht, which is reasonably priced for the amount of exhibits, variety and quality of information presented.
I just passed in front of the building, hopefully next time I can enter inside the museum
Interactive multimedia museum in a historic house, friendly staff, small enough to stop by as a tourist, more than interesting to keep you engaged.MRT Station right beside. Fair price at 100BWe are positively surprised.
Highly interactive museum - a nice change from museums where you have to read a lot (although, i like those too), great for kids too im guessing. My friend (thaithought there wasnt enough detail. I agree but thats the price to pay for the extra interactivity. If you want detail id suggest the national museum or, perhaps, read a book.
Terrific!!! And aimed at the young minds that like to explore push buttons and see the world in a different way. A modern museum that was designed to engage the senses. Also, being very conveniently right on top of MRT station Sanam Chai does help a great deal, entrance fees of 100THB per adult / person will get you in. The exhibit starts on the 3rd floor. Working its way down to the second and eventually the 1st (groundfloor. A must for families that have kids that like to touch, pull poke and explore!
First timer here to the Museum Siam. The place is easily accessible by MRT, exiting at Sanam Chai via exit 1. It costs 100THB for the ticket (without audio guide). Was in awe with the building and garden. The exhibition starts on the 2nd floor and offers interactive activity throughout. The staffs were also really helpful. The exhibit show the origin of Thainess as well as the history of Thailand in a very interesting way. There is also a photo studio at the end of the exhibit. Don’t forget to get coin souvenirs and merchandise from the Museum Shop.
Very convenience going there by the subway, the station’s exit is exactly at the museum’s door. But I went there by car, there’re enough parking spaces for visitors, and it is 3 hours free of charge if you buy the museum ticket. There are majorly 2 parts of exhibitions, (1Thai history and many facets of Thai culture information (2variable titles that keep changing every month. The building is an old building but well-renovated, all rooms are air-conditioned. There’re 3 floors for exhibition events which the ground floor is free of charge but the 2-3 floors. Elevator is available.
Medium sized interactive museum which costs 100 Baht to enter. Its an interesting air conditioned museum with English translations, but it is interesting how they talk about being Thai.
Night museum is nice. Travelers should come visit. Even foreigner can understand all the exhibit because they have the translation to support. The location near Sanam Luang, The Emerald Buddha, Tha prajun pier, Tha Maharaj pier.
Many have posted about the museum and their exhibits. I wanted to point out that on the 2nd floor of their office next to the parking lot, there is a tiny but peaceful knowledge center/library worth checking out.The place looks overall quite new, plenty of comfortable space and their book selections are mainly on Thai/Asian history and museum management. Bangkok generally lacks good public libraries so it was a joy to visit such place. Hope they continue to get support.
Small enough to enjoy without getting tired of walking, although the stairs can be quite a hassle. Nice collections, very light but still providing nice intro to Thai modern culture. The temporary exhibit about the lottery in Thailand is quite interesting with a complete information dated back in king Rama all the way to the recent history and how it impact society.
Easy access by subway. The station just right in front of the museum. Nice museum and well maintenance. There are many event and theme all year round. With 3 stories high building. The museum just next to Wat Pho. Worth to visit.
A small peaceful place to spend a relaxing afternoon. You can learn about some details of thai culture in daily life and just chill on the grass. Sometimes it has free admission day. It will be a good rest spot during walking exploring around palace and temples.
I see lots of negative criticism here, but I really enjoyed this visit. I recommand it for people who want to better understand what define « thainess » in history. Audioguide is unfortunately just an overview and doesn’t explain each item. From street food to religious beliefs, from simple things like « drinks in plastic bags » to the role of amulets for taxi drivers. If you know the book « Very Thai », then it’s the real life version. Fun place.
Came here for the third time with my 6yo kids. Everytime we came, we would find some sections quite fun to explore and play. Displays are well exhibited in both thai and English. We like the Thai cooking and Thai tradition section the most this time. Staffs are very welcoming and attentive to explain us the information in each section. The souvenirs are very well designed too.
I did not expect to see this spacious and green museum in the heart of Bangkok old city. There are many interesting things to see while the areas provide many large trees which is difficult to see in Bangkok. After the royal palace and wat Poe, this place is the relaxing section
Modern, fun, interactive & informative museum! I learnt a lot about ‘Thaism’ which left me feeling in awe of this beautiful country! Definitely worth a visit while in Bangkok. I hired headphones however didn’t end up using them - they were a bit chunky and outdated, everything is in English anyway & I visited with a Thai friend so we really didn’t need them. The information from the headphones would have probably offered more detail but I was happy enough with what was already on offer - up to you though. You have to hand in personal ID (passport, work permit, visa, drivers license etcas a deposit which some people might feel uncomfortable about. While I’m at it, I would also recommend eating by the river afterwards. We visited Krua Khun Kung in the Navy Base (opposite The Grand Palacewhich served fabulous food (oysters were huge, creamy & crunchy 😋and very reasonably priced. Have fun!
Love the museum and glad to see such museum in Thailand. Presentation is interesting (not boring). There are gamify a few display, so people and kids can enjoy it very much indeed. It is a good place to bring kids to show them what Thai is.The ticket is only 100thb for adults and 50 for students. Kids under certain age is free(sorry, i dont remember the number exactly).Locker and audio guide is free for your request. The tour start on the third floor. There is also an elevator for older people or for people who are not comfortable clmibing the stairs.Staff in each room is very helpful and ready to educate you and your kids. There are some room that they do have costume for you to try on and take some good photo.Overall is just great.
