Museum showcasing local banking history, including antique currency & international bank notes.
Very nice and nostalgic. Never thought a toilet break could result in wonderful photos with all the decor and background.
A nice place to learn the history of Indonesia in term of Banking & monetary system started from the Dutch era with Javasche Bank until being nationalized as Bank of Indonesian in the old historical building in the Old Batavia Town. The collection of coins from all over the world in the most interesting one besides the gold bars room.
If you want visit Indonesia or Jakarta for a business purpose, it be better to understand Indonesian economic by visiting this museum first.
A really good history museum as well as banking. Museum was excellent, just sorry we didnt get there at 13:00 to enjoy it for the full two hours. Missed the gold bars because of it. Not too busy, but lots of visitors leaving at closing time. And price was great too!
Went on reopening day (for general publicon July 7, 2022 and it was very nice. The guide was knowledgeable and there were lots of interesting and well preserved stuffs on display
Great place to visit when you want to fill your brain with knowledge bout Indonesian finance history in the past. Hows the bank first established and so on. My first time visited this place with my Sons study tour. and I was Amazed! The place was clean, with air cons, packed with Indonesian Financial History back then, etc..The toilet was clean. You can visit the website for other info like tickets and open hours.
Bank Indonesia Museum is a bank museum located in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was founded by Bank Indonesia and opened on 21 July 2009. The museum is housed in a heritage building in Jakarta Old Town that had been the first headquarters of the Netherlands Indies gulden (De Javasche bank), the central bank of the Dutch East Indies. The bank was nationalized as Bank Indonesia in 1953, after Indonesia gained its independence. It is located next to Bank Mandiri Museum. This museum hold many stories about Indonesia Monetary System from prehistoric until the modern times. You can also see the replica of real golds where its used as national treasure.
The BI Museum is located in the disused De Javasche Bank building in the Old Town of Jakarta, a location steeped in historical significance. The Government designated the site a cultural heritage building in accordance with Jakarta Gubernatorial Decree No. 475 of 1993. Preservation of the building is consistent with Jakarta government policy to declare the Old Town as an area of historical significance. As a pioneer of cultural heritage revitalisation in the Old Town, Bank Indonesia presents a trove of knowledge concerning Bank Indonesia’s role and contribution in the historical journey of Indonesia, while elaborating the motivation behind Bank Indonesias policies over time
Spectacular white colonial building near from transjakarta bus station kota. One of the best museum to visit in Jakarta. The museum is pretty clear inside and outside. And the collections too are very interseting and clean.
A very well maintained museum. I was personally loved how we can sense the historical story of the place through its colonial architecture and design. But I also amazed on how the museum use technology and give such modern vibes in its attraction
Id say this is the best museum in Jakarta, even Indonesia. They have the best maintanance, facilities, and the building itself. With colonial style building, you can learn a lot about money and economy history in Indonesia, especially during the WW2 era. Complete collection added with diorama and also interactive media, definitely recommended to visit. Could be reache using commuter line or Transjakarta, both are near.
Really good and interesting museum! The stories and how it tells made me more curious and let the time passed faster.I came there at weekend and watched very good entertainment from Theater Keliling @theaterkelilingindNot just good theater but also entertaining and make me laugh again and again.Worth to visit for just 5k rupiahs for Indonesian adult.
Ive never gone to the museum before but any expectation I have for this museum goes passed beyond it. The knowledge in this museum is being served in really interesting displayed which made the experience worth the time and the money. The ticket cost you only for 5k Rupiah.Inside the museum, you will feel like you travel the past but still in the present because of the technology presented in. I like that they displayed a lot of artifacts like the old money, gold and definitely the knowledge
The main content of this museum is the history of money in Indonesia. But the first thing you gonna see is the history of Indonesia before the money was exist. After that you will find the history of Indonesia when Indonesia was in a fatal economic crisis. Ah, just before that you will see so many statue which describes several of Indonesian activity at that time. Furthermore, is the main content, the history of money in Indonesia. You can see so many money development from that era to the present. Also there is a big vault that contain of so many golds (fake goldsand there is one fake golds that you can try it’s weight (similar to the original one). Oh, you can also see money from other country, but it’s not the new one it’s the old one. The last thing you can see here is the old money printing machine. About the buildings and structure, it’s “Treasure” for the architect because it’s constructed by The Javasche Bank and it’s well kept by the museum management. Clean and looks very elegance with the new renovation. About the ticket price is Rp 5000 for weekdays, I am not sure whether there is a different ticketing price for weekend and weekdays. It’s awesome, you have to check it!
Located in Old City of Jakarta or Kota Tua Jakarta. Not connecting directly with but so near with way to Transjakarta bus station or even train station. Easy to find another options of public transportations. Its big museum, good maintenance but still cheap price. There are AC and many fans inside. Some spaces are closed, we dont know how but with open spaces, its enough to make us tired. Recommended place to visit. But unfortunately not accessible for disabled one.
It is a place so perfect to learn about the history of Indonesias Central Bank from time to time. Theres lots of collections to dig better of monetary policy base made by bankers from the early century of this nations years. You can see even the real gold bricks worth more than 8 trillions [my estimation], even holding a real one in your hand to taste its 13.5 kgs weight, while imagining just how much wedding rings could possibly created from one single brick..
One of the most recommended Museums in town.If you come in the weekwnd, do come at 8 am. Youll have plenty of time to enjoy and take pictures without anybody around. And visit the rest of the museums around kota tua before lunch time.We found it very hot in the day, so we were saved from the heat due to the early arrival.
Another winner in the museum category, especially if you like money and history. The museum went on and on. There was the history of the establishment of the Dutch Bank and its evolution. It covers architecture, local money, Dutch money and has money from around the world. It cost us 5000 rupiah a piece. Honestly, thats close to free. I recommend it to everyone.
It displays the history of Bank of Indonesia. You can also see the Indonesian banknotes from the era before the Independence Day till now. One thing to remember : dont forget to bring back-up batteries for your camera before you left your bag at the security post. They lend you transparant bag & you can only bring wallet, mobile phones & camera
Another Dutch building well preserved. A good insight on what shape Indonesian history from economics perspective. Great place to learn. A must visit for any numismatist. Good flow of displays. Should spend anywhere from at least 2 hrs for quick visit to half a day for relaxed stroll.
Nice place to learn Indonesian Banking. You can learn from the beginning of Bank Indonesia until nowadays. Good also to bring your kids and family.
A very good and maintained museum. At this museum, we can explore the history of the Rupiah, even the money that was used in Indonesia during the colonial era. The financial history of Indonesia is also available here. The vicinity of the building is also an instagramable spot for photo taking. This museum is located nearby the oldtown of Jakarta. Transjakarta stop is just opposite the museum. Entrance fee is only Rp 5,000 per person.
Had a great experience! The place is spacious and the exhibits are very interesting and informative. Be sure to arrive before 2 p.m if you want to watch the Immersive Cinema of the buildings history. All this you can enjoy for almost no cost! Very recommended
The museum was great. Giving us a detail expla ation about what actually happened about monetary system in Indonesia. They also have a lot of money collection around the world. Very satisfying to visit. Ticket price is only 5k.
Actually it is a very good place to visit if you want to know more about the monetary history of Indonesia. But you must spare extra time for your visit since it is located in a very crowded traffic, i am 99% sure youll be trapped in traffic jam on your way to / from this museum, especially if you drive / ride your own car / bike. You cannot bring anything except id card, wallet and cellphone, even water bottle is not allowed. Inside, you will find many information about monetary system, historic figures, money that has ever used in Indonesia. The information so detailed and made you think that reading it is more important than take a photo itself 😅I recommend you to visit it as individual, not follow a group activity. This museum is rarther big and since a group activity will always follow the schedule given by the committee, so you only has a little time to enjoy all of the collection here. Despite of that, i respect for one that still choose museum as their vacation agenda since most of locals do not visit museum much.
The best museum in Indonesia, I have seen in 7 weeks. It explains the histoty of the Bank of Indonesia in the context of history and politics. The explanations are in English too! The building was the Bank of Indonesia until it moved to the city center and the architecture is very nice. Entrance is 5,000 IDR for locals and foreigners. It is worth to visit. An hour time is enough time if you dont read every detail.
Nice collections and display done by Museum of Bank Indonesia. I went there recently and was wowed with the whole set up, considering how museums in Indonesia were not that maintained in the past. I see a lot of progress during my latest visit and I am very proud to recommend this museum to be visited. Dont forget to also check other museums while youre in the area.
One of the best museums in jakarta, this place will tell us the history of indonesia economic start from the beginning until now, and the history of Bank of indonesia. There also some entertainment inside. Recommended place both for local and foreigner. Plus you can find a lot of gold inside!!haha

Great place to visit with your family. Provide information about Indonesian monetery history in modern style. Clean, good hospitality, big Mosque for praying, cafetaria, big space of car parks.
It talks about the history and the evolution of the bank and monetary system of Indonesia starting from the earliest years of its history. The museum is one among the others in the area call "Kota Tua" which mean the old city. I think this musuem is also the best one among these as well since there are better story line, facility is good and comfortable. What that are displayed may not be interesting to those who only go to museum just to see the style and design, but If you spend time to read and learn, youll get alot. The price for local is Idr 5000. The tourist price may not far away from that.*worth the try*
I barely visit a museum whilst I’m home (re: in Indonesia). I visited some like Monjali or Museum Brawijaya but Museum Bank Indonesia offer me something different. Compared to another typical Indonesian museum, MBI offered interactive exhibition and cool design interior. It’s almost similar to European museum I have visited. And I truly recommend you to visit this place, you only have to pay Rp 5000 and enjoy a great delivery of Bank Indonesia’s history
A place to go for history lover particularly those who want to know the history of Bank Indonesia, our central bank. It is located in Kota Tua, Jakarta where the first bank in Indonesia was founded by the Dutch. It provides all the basic, key and yet comprehensive information on the role of the central bank in the past and its current role. A well organized bilingual museum and worth visiting. I will be happy to make a second visit and bring my pen to take note!
Only 5K rupiah for entrance ticket to this interesting museum and youll get Indonesias history related to Bank Indonesia. It reminds me also about 1998 when rupiahs so weak. Its a modern museum with technologies but still show Indonesian heritage. If you plan to visit this Museum, you better bring only wallet and your gadget to taking picture there or else you have to put your items on the deposit counter.
This is a must see if you’re in Jakarta. The entrance ticket is just 10000 rupiah, and what you get is a complete history of Indonesia’s economic twists and turns, with a few extras.Once you go in, there is a designated path you can follow from start to end, I always like that in a museum.Once you get through the content here you will understand why the Indonesian currency is valued at where it is now.
One of the 2 best museum we visited in Jakarta. I have been curious about why the indonesian currency is so slow since I got here and this place explained it perfectly. It was honest and straightforward with lots of English text available. The building itself is also beautiful! My favorite was the green tiled room. So pretty.
great place.historic sites. one of old building that located in the center of the old jakarta was opened to the public as a place of education. museum which shows information about money, banking, financial from time a time. in this place we can find all equipment and historical evidence of the past bank. spacious and clean place. very crowded on weekends and holiday seasons.
It provides a lot of information about the development of economy in Indonesia. English guide is provided. The place is big enough but there is no place to take a rest. Overall, its very educative, at the same time you can feel the heritage atmosphere.
The best museum in town or even in Indonesia.Entering Museum Bank Indonesia is just like entering one of Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC.Housed in a beautifully preservered colonial building, Museum Bank Indonesia takes you to the time machine of the history of finance in Indonesia through out a well-curated collections, high tech, dioramas, etc.Admission fee is only IDR 5000. Put all your bags/carry on on the locker/cloak room before entering. Theres guided tour. Do not forget to give the guide tips. Do not miss the IMMERSION CINEMA.Souvenir shop is by the end of the tour. Cafeteria is on the ground floor. Prayer room/Mosque is just outside. Theres parking space.A world class museum. A MUST VISIT.
This is a must visit museum in the Kota Tua Jakarta area. Located in the old building of Bank Indonesia (before moved to Jl. Thamrin), the beauty of this building still exists. The museum was restored perfectly and it is such a nice place to learn about the history of money in Indonesia. Also, the ticket is just 5.000 IDR, so affordable and with that little amount of money you will get a perfect museum ambiance that could be comparable to museums in another countries. Totally worth it !
Its over my expectation because the museum is very cozy and neat. We learn a lot in this museum. I thought we going spent little time here but 1 hour is not enough. So many things about indonesian banking and financial histories we can find here. Its very cheap compare to the knowledge we got.
The museum is one of a worth-to-visit old building in Jakarta. You can have a nice walk around the museum, take a good picture, as well as learn the history. They have a lot of interesting stuff. Its cool.
It was okay. Only for the most hardcore economics and banking nerds. I thought I was in that category, but I found that after a few of those flights at my eyes were glazing over. But that said, but a slave to go into detail, and if you want to learn everything there is to know about the banking history of Indonesia, this is the place.
I was amazed, one of the best museum ever in Indonesia. Rich of information, the visual merchandising is very good, its really satisfying my eyes nose and ears. Easy to find and the tickrt price is not expensive. Also there is an affordable cafe with indonesian food. Worth to try!
This museum is so awesome. You can learn history with interesting way. The entry ticket for this museum cheap too, only 5k. You can bring your whole family and it is still cheap. In museum BI you have to entrust your belonging in the entry gate. You not allowed to bring your bag. Happy sight seeing!
This museum is really good. Bank Indonesia has put up a very nice exhibits, good collection of money from Indonesia and rest of the world. They have various room for display. Theres a theatre inside although right now the presentation is for children only. The museum is not completely done, still some exhibition are in construction. All exhibits will be open in March 2018. The museum also have audio guide in several languages. Check the reception desk for detail on how to rent the audio guide device.
I think this is one of the best museum in Jakarta. They have a lot of money collection from all over the world. They also have long history of money in Indonesia, including the story when the Dutch came into and colonised. They keep improving their collection and facilities so if you visit this museum by now you may see some part of this museum are closed. You need to pay Rp5000,00 for the ticket and store your bag in front before entering the museum.
Simply the most convenient and comfortable museum in Kota Tua area. A must visit place! From the outside it looks grande with white big pillars. On the inside, everything is fine. From the lightning, cool temperature and well designed rooms. The historic collections are also varied from the earliest to the latest. Some spots have cool technology to enhance your experience there!
Last time I visited this museum, it was not as good as it is now. The architecture is so classic and beautiful, overall this museum is escalating so quickly, every thing turns better than before. ps you will get free entry if you show your student card;)
Well presented large museum with advance technology, cheap ticket, a very good air conditioner, good place to take a photo. The museum boast a large collection and history of bank and money, focusing in Indonesia. It got gold ingot simulation and you would be surprise how heavy it is.
