Av. Paseo de la Reforma 51, Polanco, Bosque de Chapultepec I Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11580 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico, Mexico City
Established museum showcasing contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures & photography.
Great museum, the architecture and space is excellent, good temporal exhibitions. Nice store.
Currently no permanent collection and the current exhibitions are the usual soulless and pointless ‘art’ without any creativity.
The building that houses this art is spectacular.Thought provoking art exhibition.
The vast majority of the exhibits are closed and roped off. Literally 2 rooms with a handful of items on display.
A “contemporary” art museum that doesn’t take card payments. Absurd.
Rufino Tamayo have been one of the greatest Mexican artists! The museum is very well organised. Located in the beautiful park of Chapultepec, you can enjoy art and nature
This is a modestly sized museum that is easy to see everything in a short. The exhibits until September 4th 2022 are exceptional. The Julio Galan paintings (and some photoswere completely new to me and quite breathtaking. The Nan Goldin photo slide shows were equally exhilarating. Highly recommended
If you’re looking to pass a little bit of time while waiting for something else, I’d recommend this. It is a large space, but was a bit disappointed in the variety of art present. It appeared a bit random and very spaced out. Had been hoping to spend longer there but walked through it fairly quickly.
I went to this museum for the Nan Goldin exhibit but I was blown away by all the exhibits and the beautiful architecture of the building in general. This went from a place I stopped by because I had a spare hour to a place I will always go back to when I visit CDMX.
Great museum. I definitely suggest coming here and walking around the surrounding area.
This is my favorite museum in Mexico City. Its on the smaller side especially compared to some of the nearby places like the Anthropology museum, but the collections here at my visit (June 2022were just amazing!
Free and quirky. The entire crowd is white people though so ... Hint hint. Not the most fascinating of spaces the city has to offer.
One of the best museums in cdmx. Mostly dedicated to temporary contemporary art exhibits, some interesting, others not much. They also show every now and then interesting works from their Tamayos permanet collection. But the best work of art is the Museum building itself, an icon of Mexican architecture by Zabludovsky & González.
Very nice building, both outside and inside, but a few things really worth a visit
The museum is awesome, they usually have an exhibition outdoors too, also the shop is great! 👍
Excellent museum…
The space is beautiful but the content is a bit underwhelming. The majority of the works in the museum are about the museum’s history itself. While there is interest in a selection, it felt a bit skewed and unbalanced in regards to other pieces
Interesting exhibit a bit about how the museum is a bit of an ego trip. More of an international focus. Beautiful building and good curration
It’s a very good museum for a quicker visit - if you’re a tourist, with limited time, I’d make sure to visit the anthropological museum first, but for a quiet afternoon it’s a lovey spot, and it’s kid friendly. The exhibits are a bit random, some great abstract stuff, some installation stuff, a few interesting video projects, not sure there’s a signature piece here, but it’s certainly got some interesting elements. You can be in and out in about an hour and a half, likely longer if you linger a lot, or shorter if you’re just glancing through it all.
The museum itself it very nice, great collection of arts and beautiful infrastructure. However, there were a couple employees being rude because our Asian ethnicity. They tried to make a non-existing line from the tile of the floor and followed us very closely during our visit. As a frequent gallery visitor, I do not appreciate to be disturbed while enjoying arts:/
Amazing building..but the collection was just not that exciting.
I didnt see the collection I was expecting, maybe it was not available due to the pandemic?
Spectacular museum!Cash only!
Of the most outstanding places that I have had the fortune to visit, with an exemplary staff, always with a smile on their face and with great enthusiasm to give the required attention, I am pleased to see. It is a great museum dedicated mostly to the mexican artist Rufino Tamayo. You will find several of his pieces and of other artists of that time. The museum is in Chapultepec area so it is a quiet area surrounded by a lot of trees.
Beautiful building, wouldn’t rave about the exhibition though. Free on Sundays.
In general, I enjoy contemporary art. But this felt more like not so contemporary and more like modern art - and not really good one. A lot of things about Tamayo himself and the idea of the museum.. less Art by itself. I Dont know, I expected more from a museum of contemporary art.
This is an ugly brutalist concrete building with some tired 20th century sculpture outside. Inside is very different the building makes sense and the eclectic collection is really i teresting.
Quintessential art museum where you get to see the genius of Tamayo plus whatever is on…On the outside there’s a Fantastic Chadwick, Sosnowska & other sculpturesIf you enjoy modern art this is an absolute must. Plus you get the architecture of Teodoro González de León
Another excellent free-on-Sunday’s museum in Mexico City! The building itself is a masterpiece of “art-itecture”. Much larger than expected. Digital pieces as well.
Come and enjoy the beautiful architecture.
Museu temporarily closed due to refurbishingShould be back in 3 monthsBeautiful its beautiful from the outside
I walked around the galleries for around 45 mins. No clue whatsoever what I was looking at, but appeared perfectly cultured and intelligent to any onlookers. Job done 👍
Facilities are beautiful. The entry cost $70 Mxn. The history about the mexican muralist Tamayo is really interesting and beautiful. The people working there is kind and welcoming
Great Architecture and awesome place if you want to take pictures of the building itself, but the content of the galleries was not so great unfortunately.
I visited the museum to see Séance, the temporary theater production in the shipping container at the entrance to the museum. It was just okay (a little too Halloween, not enough actual Spiritist content), with great sound effects. The museum itself is an architectural showboat in direct contrast to the more successful Museum of Modern Art, directly across Reforma in the Park. The exhibition space is good and the curation very good to excellent.
Nice temporary exhibits. The permanent collection is small but good and interesting. Worth the visit for sure.
Amazing museum. The works of Tamayo unfortunately are only a portion of the museum pieces. I had expected it to be mostly Tamayo works but it was a combination of several Mexican painters of the same era. There was also a section on Oriental art that I tried to find out the connection to Tamayo. They also had studies of a particular subject in about 30 panels.
Free admission on Sunday. Beautiful space, great location, don’t miss the shop for unique gifts and the cafe for a snack. The special exhibitions are quite good, showcasing international, high caliber artists; the permanent collection is not quite as first rate.Worth a visit if you are in the area
Nice building in a lovely place. Don’t forget to stop by the cafe afterwards, very nice to sit outside ! The place is big but I saw everything in an hour. On Sunday the museum is for free. Art was interesting but you need to like contemporary art as it can be quite vague.
If your close to Chapultepec Zoo at Mexico City. You may visit Rufino Tamayo museum, you can find contemporary new art and different art expressions expositions.
Enjoyed my time there. Very interesting exhibits. Some are interactive. Theres a netted suspension tube for walking around the museum. However, I wasnt permitted to enter because you have to be wearing tennis shoes. I was wearing hiking shoes (not bootsthat have a rubber sole like tennis shoes and they wouldnt let me enter.
FREE ON SUNDAYS! This Museum is located in a big, beautiful park (with a children’s play area), and there are many outdoor sculptures as well as incredible exhibitions inside. There are guided tours available during the week, and they’re closed on Mondays.
First time here and what a delightful experience. Architecturally talking the building is excellent. Clean lines with tons of different textures. On the other hand the work in there is quite appealing and relevant. Modern and contemporary art. One day of the week entry is free. Dont forget to check the restaurant upstairs because it is delicious!
Cool contemporary art musuem with different temporary exhibitions. Always something interesting to see and free on Sundays.
This wonderful museum is a must in Mexico city. With a great collection of Tamayos art and constant new exhibitions. The architecture of the building is one of the best creations of Teodoro González de León.
Current expos include Mexican work for household decor. Keep yourself updated on the constant changes in exhibits.
Their restaurant is very chic and has a great view.Modern art is difficult and some expos are not of the highest quality but the building is awesome, great piece by Teodoro González
Probably my favorite museum in Mexico City. Building is awesome. Good flow to the whole place. All the work there is very interesting. The exhibit by Tacita Dean is amazing.
its an AMAZING museum, great architecture and illumination, but before visiting its necessary to understand that the attraction of the museum its not the collection, but the temporary expositions whose are incredible and have a great quality, coming from well known artist and professionals
