Museo Regional de Antropología E Historia de Baja California Sur - Natural history museum in Loreto, Mexico
Very nice guided tour!! The director gave us a very good talk at each area of the museum.
Tiny museum, but definitely worth a visit to learn much more about the history of the Baja Peninsula and its people.
After years of neglect this museum has finally joined the ranks of worthwhile regional history destinations. nice static exhibits and interpretive artwork. check it out!
They want to charge us to enter, even tho the sign says over age 50 is free. They said "thats not for Americans"!! We left
A worthy visit to learn of BCS and its history. Friendly and helpful staff.
Levi awesome!!!!
Friendly, helpful staff. Museum is about half dedicated to colonial era forward. More of a History and Anthropology Museum than an Anthropology and History Museum. Native people before Spanish contact are portrayed as extremely primitive. Learned more about the Native people more from Wikipedia. The Spanish, the Jesuits, and "founding fathers" of the state are extensively covered.Colonialism is portrayed positively, no mention of the disease, removals, and cultural/language erasure suffered by the original inhabitants. Overheard a staff person explain to a Canadian visitor that this was because the Spanish culture is the culture of Mexico and right or wrong they have Spain to thank for what they have now. I wasnt aware that this was still a common sentiment in Mexico, so I guess thats what I learned here.
The photographs of cave paintings were the best.
Short and sweet local history museum.
Wonderfully done in great detail... outstanding docent, highly knowledgeable... attention all gringos: all the explanatory posters are in Spanish...thats why you need to ask for the docent...you wont be sorry
Fabulous tour, Ruben our guide was very knowledgeable!
Nice little local museum about the regional history. I especially liked the cave paintings replica - very cool! All descriptions in Spanish only, so have your translation app ready if you are not Spanish speaking. Everyone is super friendly and the museum guides like to share :)
Definitely worth a stop if you’re in La Paz. The museum is well designed and they have volunteer tour guides who are fully fluent in English. You will learn the history of the Baja California peninsula, from the first settlers to now. It’s truly a wonderful experience.
Well worth a visit, go slowly through the exhibits
Really worth taking the time to go and see while you are visiting La Paz. This museum helps uncover all of those questions that arise from spending time in Baja California Sur - the museum covers the First Nations way of life before the settlers missionaries and colonisation. We explored the museum with Levi who was outstanding - hands down the best guide I have ever experienced in a museum, his knowledge of Mexicos complex history was impeccable and I left feeling so impressed and lucky to have received so much knowledge and insight on the history of Baja California Sur an Mexico at large.
Very nice museum. Great cave painting reproductions.
Very nice museum about the history of the state, the volunteer guide gave us a very good explanation of the exhibit.
It was excellent. Loved it.
sadly closed for covid...please post when open again..gracias!
Place is filled with history
Admission is MX45. Pay at the door. There are actually 4 floors to us Americans. Nice reproductions of many artifacts and histories.
An impressive small museum covering the history of the area with a bit of art, too. It is all in Spanish, but Google Lens does a fabulous job of translating the posters.
Very interesting history of Baja California
All signage and explanations were in Spanish. No English, hard to understand everything.
Fabulous presentation of many eras of the Baja past. The staff is very friendly, and they brought out their best English translator just for us.
Very interesting museum telling the history of LaPaz and surrounding but NOTHING in English! Read about LaPaz from Moon Handbooks - Baja or other book to understand what you will see. Still, very well done and interesting.
Not so big but really interesting. There you can know more about Mexican history.
Guide very informative . Very knowledgeable regarding artifacts.
Museum contains a history of the region. First floor has current ocean research.
Great museum with personal tour included
Great place to take children and learn!!!
We loved this place. Very interesting. We had an history student offer to show us around and that was awesome and helpful because all the information was in Spanish.
Its a wonderful museum !Totally renovated, the exhibition is really interesting and actualized, lots of artefacts and reconstitution, easy to understand and passionate .The temporally exhibition is also powerful , nice pictures that describe well the spirit of Baja California Sur.Just go there, you will not be disappointed!
No english. Small and simple museum.
An ability to read Spanish will help enormously, but the museum is great, especially the replica cave paintings. The section on indigenous cultures was particularly interesting. If you want to take photos inside the museum, there is a small extra fee.
Sweet museum! Our guide Levy was both knowledgeable and a pretty funny dude. The third floor is really cool. Check it out!
We read the reviews and decided to go have a look,, it didnt have a natural fauna section that we were hoping for ,but we had a very great history lesson in baja Mexico! It wouldnt have been much of a lesson, all info is in Spanish,, I if not for this young man who is passionate about history and his country,, he was a curator on the second floor! He should be a group guide! He made us want to learn more! Thank you
We enjoyed the Museo Regional de Anthropologia today and a great discussion with Alberto, the main level custodian. Thank you!
Wonderful curator/reception person. Friendly, knowledgeable
Very friendly English speaking staff. Great exhibits. Very clean easy to find
Nice facility. Worth a visit if at all interested.
Surprisingly well organized and interesting museum on the history of Baja. It is all in Spanish and the docents are generally not English speakers but some do and the rest are friendly and will try to help. Local plants outside the museum are named and described.
Small museum in La Paz full of local history
Nicely done displays and a great way to spend an afternoon. All the displays are in Spanish but I enjoyed checking things out even without being able to read Spanish. They had photography display on the first floor that was really outstanding. $45 pesos per person, which I think was totally worth it.
The collection is very complete. You get a sense of what this land is about. I didnt know the name California was first used here. After Hernan Cortes was here, the southern part of the peninsula was known as California!! It just blown my mind. The missions and the whole history of this part of the world is just fascinating!!!
Very interesting museum that provides a good overview from Baja’s pre-history to the revolution, including extensive detail on Bajan ancient rock art. Unfortunately, it’s all in Spanish so those with no Spanish will miss a lot.
Not a bad little museum. If youre in the area its worth a visit, I wouldnt go out of my for it.
bring your Spanish language knowledge !nothing is described in Englishthe person at the ticket booth does not speak / understand Englishthe displayed ticketing information is also only in Spanish ....
I found this museum to be fascinating and very well done. There are prehistoric fossils, displays showing the of early man, cave paintings, then later times up to the 20th century. It is a big place and I saw all three floors.
The entrance staff greeted us warmly in English as we entered the doors, absolutely worth the two dollars as the three floors of exhibits walked us through the history of Baja California. Just wish the lights werent so dim it didnt feel like we were in a closet and that the display explanations were in English so that we knew what we were looking at.
