Via Pietrarsa, 16, 80146 Napoli NA, Italy, Napoli
Spacious museum dedicated to the charming retired stock of the Italian national railway networks.
Railway museum on the beach! Great atmosphere of Railway history. Its nice to see old wagons and equipments, and especially thank you for possibility to entrance to locomotives!7 euros per ticket for adult person, there is excursions in English. Ive spent there more than 3 hours. Its unreal interesting museum.
Only 2€ per person and so many to see. Totally recommend to visit this place.
An exceptional place especially for people who love railways!!
Nice place to visit.
Nice place, great history
Top!!!
Its wonderful place 🇮🇹💞💯👍
Extremely well maintained site homing the whole history of Italian railway and train system (as it was first created in Pietrarsa). To begin with, tickets are affordable but formulas can vary from €7/ticket depending on the time of the year and on eventual deals. Thats why Id recommend calling the museum in advance for information on ticketing, especially for family visits. Guided tours need advanced booking. I couldnt take the guided tour this time but itd be absolutely worth doing with such tour guides as Federica, whom I met in one of the pavilions and was just so kind and insightful to tell me a little something about the museum. Personally Id like to take it with her asap.In addition, from 6pm a basic visit around the museum per adult can be included in a drink at "Terrazza Le fucine". This is the lounge bar located in the wonderful outdoor space of the museum with a mind blowing seaview of Pietrarsa. Lounging around in there by the sunset is absolutely relaxing and worth it.To conclude, the whole fs foundation made this historical site not only valuable but also extremely appealing and and entertaining for visitors of any age. Just go there and enjoy it!
Beautiful venue, well kept. In the middle of a rundown neighborhood. Wonders of Naples
Was here for a congres dinnerWhat a fantastic location, certainly if you like steam trains, wa sat between the old steel monsters and imagined them hissing and purringAll is weel maintained and there are explanations in EnglishWish all museums in Naples were as tidy!My only regret is I didnt see all the exhibits.
This is probably an underestimated gem in Naples! Everyone want to go to Pompeii, but it is another ruin in Italy. This train museum instead exhibits a beautifully restored part of history of trains in Italy. Three big halls full of wagons and engines, engineers dream come true :)And the yard offers a nice bar and terrific view over bay of Naples. I highly recommend this place.
Lovely place ♡♡♡
A very unique museum. Ive been to many railway museums in the US, but this one is very different. There are only a few pieces of equipment outside. Most of the collection is restored & under roof. The buildings are beautiful & very clean. There is an excellent collection of restored steam locomotives ( around 30), some inter-urban equipment, a few diesel engines & a collection of coaches. Its extremely easy to get to. We made our visit a day trip, taking the train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale, about 1hr. From there we took the Metro 3 stops. You walk off the Metro into the museum. Couldnt be easier. The museum grounds are manicured gardens, right on the waterfront. A great place for peple who arent interested in trains to hang out. I highly recommend this museum, but dont expect any rolling stock, running trains or acres & acres of equipment.
Well organised and laid out with detailed history and notes on all the trains and carriages in both English and Italian
A wonderful collection of historic rolling stock
An incredible experience! The variety of trains, access to the trains and overall displays are well take care of.The view of the sea and the gardens are also breathtaking. If you have a chance to go, you will have a day full of exploration and adventure. You can even eat wonderful food, snacks, pastries, tea, drinks, and café at Cafe Bayard at the museum. Beautiful environment so welcoming. We had great service from Martina, Angelo, and Gaetano. We will definitely be back again.
Great life experience. Wonderful museum. It’s a trip in the past. The history of trains in Italy.Great coffee shop and warm welcoming from Angelo and Gaetano.
I have been to few railway museums. This one definitely has the best position and views. It is very clean and tidy. We went in a totally unbusy time - like 10 people in the whole museum. So it is hard to judge the popularity. But I guess what is missing is more interactivity. You can watch, go through some carriages… but something is still missing. Perhaps looking to Japan would do the trick. But still, very nice. And the price is unreal! 5 euro if you come by train… that’s like for free.
If you happen to visit Naples, make sure that you leave a morning for the wonderful Pietrarsa Train Museum.
We visited the museum with friends with young children. It is a railway heritage museum, which is itself beautiful, as it is built by the sea. It is also very well organised, with some activities for children, and food zone. I am not sure for how long the Christmas market and decorations will stay on, but they are very well worth the visit. The entrance tickets are not expensive and the view to the Naples gulf is a plus.
A very extensive collection of locomotives, wagons and rail cars with detailed descriptions (in Italian and Englishfor every single one of them. On top of that, the location right next to the sea is beautiful and the entire property is clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and the entrance fee is only €3 so I’d definitely recommend going!
Trains from the Bourbon era and beyond, an interesting historical tour. On a summer evening do not miss a drink at Il Binario Borbonico, such a charming place to spend time relaxing in front of the sea. It is definitely worth the visit!
Impressive uiopolopoi lokopolopoi I dont know what it means.Read my blog google on swami Sangopadra, innovator of hot metal, for steam only locomotives. 2 10 0 can pull some wagons. Now wagons can be made leighter. And tambien the locmotive faster by lightest metal in the rods and wheels. Counterweights have to be same weight of course. 9 locos now working. 3 in Stockholm 2 in Gävle Museum, from.Locodrivers now can live to 110 in this clean meditative locomotives.Diesel 60y only old steam 70y electric 85 y. cosmic testing judgement.
Too bad restaurant was closed, liked the virtual tour
Absolutely brilliant museum lots of old locos to look around and carriages a must visit! !
The best railway museum I have ever visited in my life. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Naples.
Formidable exhibition of ancient rotable materials, ranging from early nineteenth century to the end of the twentieth, in a stunning location right before the Mediterranean Sea, in the old factory where the first Italian trains were built, and the first Italian railway was operated (the famous Napoli-Portici line).
Amazing place with old trains vert well preserved, outside is also pleasant for a view
Great museum! Lovely display. Had a great time in here ;)
Very interesting, for fans of railways its must
Awesome collection of trains, must-see.
Gorgeous facility. Brilliant location. Nice people. A super treat for train lovers.
If your kids love trains, thats the place to go
Wonderful location
Wonderful location, right on the seaside next to the train station, a paradise for train lovers, with displat mostly of steam trains and old electric trains, up to about 1970
A fantastic rail museum, the collection is spotlessly kept and the buildings are well presented too. Def recommend the audio visual at the start, it was amazing and available in English, the staff were brilliant. The equipment descriptions are in both Italian and English which was a nice surprise. Only disappointment was that there are not more diesel locos on display. If you are in Naples and like trains it is a must visit, it is very close (one stationto Herculaneum too so both can easily be done in a day from Naples.
Great museum with an impressive collection of steam locomotives.
Interesting museum with the history of railway in Italy and lots of locomotives very well preserved. Nice visit
Nice museum
Ever since, as a child, you were playing with trains, you had longed for a real train.. Under a pavilion of a former iron foundry come on board the railway of history. After that dont forget to take a walk around the outside gardens and have a glance over the Golfo di Napoli right from the middle of it.Stop in "Pietrarsa S.Giorgio a Cremano" station (from underground station Napoli Piazza Garibadi platform Metro linea 2 destination Salerno - Torre Annunziata - Castellammare)
Unique railway museum, take the local train in direction Salerno from Piazza Garibaldi.
One of the best railroad museuns in Europe
Very interesting. A must see!!!!!
Superb railway museum, very interesting FS stock and lovely location.
Nice location for the event too!
Fabulous well kept collection of trains and train machinery. Very friendly and helpful staff and very interesting virtual show.
very nice place. A lot of locomotives and coaches from the past
Very nice museum in a marvellous surrounding, along the sea. You can reach it easily by train since it it just beside Pietrarsa-San Giorgio a Cremano station. You can see many examples of old train and locomotives. The garden in the middle is well finished. There is a bar area inside. I suggest to visit it in the sunset.
Great train museum! Lots of history and machines here! I really enjoyed this-
Amazing place for fans of trains
