Museo Naval del Caribe in Cartagena

I dont understand the great reviews on here. It felt like the museum hadnt been updated in decades. There were no real historical artefacts (only models). All of the text was in Spanish. Considering what you can get for that entry fee elsewhere, it was expensive.

We loved our visit to this cute little museum! Miguel is the museum’s English-speaking guide and made our visit so educational and so fun. He told the history of Cartagena and its battles like an epic story. He also told it in a way that was very clear and easy to follow.Highly recommend visiting the museum and getting the guide.

It is a museum where you have to read a lot. And its only in Spanish (99%).But if you have Miguel as a tour guide, its an amazing experience and a lot of fun, without reading.

Probably the best thing we did in Cartagena. You can enter replicas of a submarine, helicopter and 2 different coast guard boats. Fabulous time, highly recommend for families with children.

Interesting museum with a lot of interesting exhibits with the chance to go on part of a submarine and boat. Although most of the information is in Spanish it is still good to see even if you dont understand. Only $21,000COP to enter.

Very nice museum with a lot of information of cartagena history and colombia naval army force. Recommend to pay extra for the tour in english if you are non Spanish speaker .

We had next to no expectations when we entered the museum and got positively surprised. The museum covers 500 years of naval history and has a lot of cool and informative displays and exhibits. We spent three hours there and felt well entertained and learned new things. Well worth a visit.

Very interesting museum ...had a guide who was full of amusing facts and who made it a great way to spend the morning..learnt loads about Colombias history.

Amazing museum, really liked both floors and the interactive experiences are great! I recommend it highly for anyone visiting Cartagena

It is a simple museum that should take about 15 min to see. But there are public bathrooms there and inside a local group plays a musical drum selection that is very upbeat and enthusiastic. Just outside is a small cafe that has limited food, plus beer, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. They have table service and they take some credit cards, but no one speaks English. We had a fresh squeezed lemonade and a beer, our Ill was $8.

Nothing in English and you wont know until after you pay the ticket to go in.Would be helpful to at least have the ticket prices by the entry and basic info in English, as well as labels so visitors can do self guided tours.Almost didnt go in because the front desk people were too busy chatting among themselves.

Cool place for a visit in Cartagena. The more modern exhibits are fairly interactive and fun. Kids who are really into machines and boats will have a blast.

Very interesting place, from details about Caribbean peoples and their surnames to colonial seafaring on Colombian rivers, about pirates in Cartagena from all times, arrr, many depictions of the bay of cartagena, including the submarine wall, the muralla in Bocagrande, and finally todays navy, sailors and Colombian submarines. Get a guided tour!

Great for kids, exhibits were mostly in Spanish but they had simulators that my son loved!

If you visit Cartagena, enjoy the beach, architecture, nice places, good food and remember to visit Navi Museum!

Lots of models of spanish fortifications. Have a knowledgeable person with you to explain them (if you do not read spanish well).

Was kind of disappointed by this museum. Not a lot of authentic artifacts or anything like that. A few replica books and amateur small scale model ships. It wasnt expensive so Im not surprised, but not worth the stop in my opinion. Theres nothing in English, so if you dont speak Spanish then its definitely not worth going.

I was walking around El Centro and decided to wander into the museum. It was a fantastic experience, with extremely informative pieces. My favorite however were the simulators on the second floor. I’ve seen many of the subs and ships docked here in Cartagena, so it was cool being able to walk around them

It is a great place to learn or remember Colombian history. It is not an interactive museum you will find in USA, CAN Spain, but has the right narrative to understand the history of Spanish "colonization" (domination)

Very cool museum with great props and artifacts. As a typical North American, my Spanish is abysmal, but for very cheap you can hire a museum tour guide on-site. Mine was really friendly and fun to tour with.

Being one of the most beautiful experience I’ve ever had the opportunity of live, Miguel is the greatest show man ever, best guide ever, detail explanation, it has so much history on it, all tourists should go there to learn everything about Cartagena and his pirates 🏴‍☠️ of the Caribbean. Do not doubt it, go for a wonderful history lesson!!!

Nice museum that teaches history of Cartagena. Recommend getting a tour guide if your Spanish is lacking. My guide was awesome. Ask receptionist for guide.

Great museum! The first floor is all about Carib indians, conquistadors, pirates, galleons, and the many fortifications around Cartagena. There are lots of models and lots of displays explaining everything.The second floor is all about the Colombian Navy. From the revolution to the Korean War to today, everything is covered... and at the end theres a model sub to walk through, the bridge from a gunboat, and speed boat like those used to patrol the Caribbean. Theres also a nice exhibition on the ARC Gloria, the tall ship used to train Naval cadets.Theres a small snack bar in the rear courtyard... Be sure to stop by for some water because theres no a/c!Some signs in English, but not many... There are guides offering tours at the entrance if you want one

Great museum, worth a look at it. Luis is a tour guide very very helpful, sociable, caring and professional person. We enjoyed our time there. A lot of things to be explained, around one hour with the tour guide but honestly it needs more time. Clean and organized place. Congratulations to the staff.

There are more props in the museum than actual artifacts. That said (and even though its a little kitschyit does a great job of telling the story of the citys history. Definitely book a guided tour if you come here. Right now there isnt any A/c inside so the first floor is a little brutal until you reach the inside courtyard that has a breeze flowing through and a shop that sells cold drinks.

At first I thought it wouldnt be so interesting, but I felt quite amused there. The first floor shows a lot about the history of the city and country regarding the navy; on the second floor youll find more modern stuff and can go inside simulators made of real ships - including a submarine. And there was a local music and dance performance while I was there, which was a pleasant surprise.

The museum is small and boring. Although the building itself is nice, they have absolutely no interesting items. The only thing you will see is large panels in Spanish explaining disorderly 3 centuries of naval history.The upper part of the museum is mainly dedicated to modern marine but again with no items except a few uniforms from the 2000s.

Navy museum in Cartagena. The museum is in Spanish and there are no English translations of descriptions. Entrance fee is 16.000 pesos

Absolutely amazing. We went with a guide and got a 4 hours tour, not only of the museum, but also throughout the old city. We learned about the history of the Cartagena since the indegenous people, and about the series of attacks that the city has suffered. Super interesting and a must-go-to place in Cartagena.

Very limited museum, low budget exhibits. Not worth the visit unless you are a naval history fanatic and even so you might me disappointed by the lacklustre models and presentation. Skip unless you have ran out of things to do within the walled city.

Our tour bus stopped here. There were many vendors outside wanting to sell souvenirs, etc. They were not as pushy as a previous stop, though. The museum itself was small, but the cool air felt nice. The bathroom facilities were newer and clean. There was a small snack shop with tables to sit at. Lots of diagrams of Cartagena inside and figures of pirates.

I love Colombia! I learned so much about history here. The historic town of Cartagena is mind blowing!!

The building is quite nice but the way the museum exhibits the information is quite poor and some of it wrong. It’s fun to go to the upper level and enter the simulators if you are going with kids, but other than that, it’s better to go to the San Felipe castle for a better understanding of Cartagena’s history.

There is a lot to read!! My Spanish level is moderate and I was able to understand most things however theres not much to see except for the submarine/boat experience...it would certainly help to re-word some of the posters for 2019Also look out for the ghosts that are apparently roaming around in the building :)

Great museum IF you get a guide. They have official guides for 20k pesos. The guide takes you around the museum and explains the history of Cartagena. English is OK but not great. Best place to learn how the bay evolved over time.

Low tech but highly informative. The displays are mostly in Spanish, but they offer an English speaking guide if you cant muddle through. Gives you a much bigger sense of the historical importance of Cartagena in the history of the region...

Great museum, well curated. Offers a great overview of Cartagena (maritimehistory.To be honest I could have done without the folkloric dance show, but other guest seemed to like it. Glad I visited.

Fun place. Cool things to look at and located right down town. Price was about $5 or 10,000 cop. There is no English translation on the displays so that might be disappointing if you actually want to learn about the history of Cartagena ( I know Spanish so it wasnt a problem for me). Overall we spent about 1hr there and would definitely recommend if you are nearby.

Great museum showing the history of Cartagena, from the age of Piracy to its modern naval force. Everythings in Spanish though so knowing the language is important.

It was so-so. And not really common to charge for a state funded museo. Especially when it is naval history / has recruitment elements to its displays.

I like the colonization part. The military Is confusing and not enough modern. Standard exhibition. No english translation.

Excellent place for families to visit! Even our two year old had a good time. The first floor of the museum focuses on the history of Cartagena, and the second floor is about Colombias modern navy. There are a lot of interactive exhibits on the second floor - the submarine simulation was an especially big hit. Its worth the entry fee of approximately $6 for adults (under $1 for kids).

Cool museum, not very expensive and worth checking out!
