Art & artifacts from Mexico's colonial period displayed in an opulent former seminary with tours.
A must if you are around. A few places worth the effort, this place is unique in Mexico and the world. You wont regret. Then enjoy the place and the restaurants, great food around.
Very well preserved museum! Worth visiting! I recommend this ancient convent!
Pretty
Best preserve Spanish colonial treasures. Very extravagant. Mexican culture indeed!!!!!
We could not go in, there is not an entrance for a wheelchair. Very disappointing.
An awesome place to visit!
Magnificent place, a true jewel of churriguresque arquitechture. The museum has incorporated a church and Jesuit convent into a well preserved place full of historical items and art. Visit early and enjoy this cultural place and restaurants.
Lovely interior
Excellent museum. Brilliant architecture, brilliant expositions and the main capilla with so much gold on it is unforgettable.
Wow!
It is closed. Another cultural site closed to the public pointing to COVID while restaurants, bars and the shops of many of these cultural sites remain open. I wonder what is the link between COVID and Mexican culture.
A very interesting place as a museum and also as a quiet place to be in.
Excellent place to spend a good time
Excellent museum to visit for both photographers as for amateurs of art. It is huge, and the artefacts exposed our super interesting ans show a deep inside in the history of mexican art. The building itself is also impressive .
Wonderful museum to visit while youre visiting the beautiful town of Tepozotlan. Place is quite big, so expect a good walk. Lots of chapels, Spanish paintings, and green areas.
Absolutely amazing!! The culture here is like no where Ive been!
The church is amazing, the museum is also nice. It takes two hours to appreciate well.
Interesting ,very interesting place in many ways, culture food, shopping...and more.
Exceptional! Amazing explication, and nice people there. Reminded!
Its rich in culture. Lots of knowledgeable historians, also guided tours are available for an extra charge
Great depiction of life in the New Spain
It is a beautiful place for art and reflection. It transports you to another century, its walls are full of history. The place is well kept and the personnel were very attentive. I felt proud of this museum being in the conditions I found it. You just have to come and visit.
If you came to Mexico City and want to know something else, something beautiful, calm, historical and cultural, then you should visit this "magical town" and its impressive landmark "Museum of Viceroyalty". Also if you like classical music, you should check the schedule of the museum, cause on many Sundays you can attend to a recital inside the marvelous gold covered chapel. Here you can find oil masterpieces from the best Mexican painters at the time. One of them was so brilliant he was nicknamed "El divino" as Michelangelo. Curiously his real first name is also Miguel, for Miguel Cabrera.
Very good experience, so many things to see and to learn. It is only $75.00 for each person and free for students with school ID.
Great museum. Is very old. With master pieces
Great place and interesting things about It.
Nice place to visit with family
Very nice visit. The church inside was unlike anything Ive seen. Only $3.50USD to get in.
Fascinating and lovely afternoon.
Top museum. Enjoyed it a lot. It describes the conquest of Mexico’s indigenous people and the subsequent exploitation by Spanish Conquistadors. Great curation.
Its a small town a few miles from Mexico City. If you can, avoid visiting it at weekends; because its literally crowded! Yet, if you come during the week, you have to pay around 4 USD (year 2018to enter, and its free on Sundays. The museum is exquisite with real baroque pieces as it is part of a monastery. After visiting the museum, you may take a walk around the square and have a snack, mealor a drink in the nearby restaurant which most of them offer Mexican traditional food.
They dont allow with the backpacks! Other than that it was a good afternoon attraction!
A Must-visit when you are nearby. Impressive art and history. Great free tour guides explain in detail the richness of Gothic masterpieces.
Very beautiful, it so big you might get list but its fun. The gold room is breath taking
Very interesting! Surprisingly vast and interesting. The building itself is stunning. The garden is also beautiful. The temple is the best part
CHURRIGUERESQUE a term for Spanish Baroque Church is a splendor to behold. The Mexican orange structures that surrounds it compliments the beauty of the centuries old church. The Jacaranda trees that accents the orange walls of the bars and restaurant on the left side of the church makes the composition naturally perfect. This place is part of the “Camino Real del Tierra Adentro” the old Spanish road that stretches 2,900 km that starts from Mexico City to New Mexico if the United States. A must to visit in Mexico
Very quiet And nice place to see a lot of pre-hispanic, and early hispanic arrival to Mexico, 2 or 3 hr in rhe complete visiting, good places to have lunch or dinner outside by walk
Great museum to learn about the Virreinato in Colonial Mexico. Free on Sunday for Mexicans else 70 pesos.
This museum is a must. The colonial heritage of Mexico relies on this museum alone. Spains colonial holdings in the New World are pretty well documented here. The religious scent along with art, architecture, geography makes this jewel worth. Be prepared to travel through time and feel shrouded in the mysteries of the colonial age in the New World.
excellent place. monumental museum, need more than 4 fours to visit it. the old church in sensational. price is cheap for the given content. the place was a Jesuits convent and there are many of the church development in Mexico. highly recommended
Pretty cultural venue. Close to Mexico City. Great for a quick weekend getaway. A lot of history in one place.
Great place, a number of artifacts and food for a quick look around. Not a major museum or anything but well worth the time! I think that at a minimum it should be visited if you are already nearby by but isnt special enough to make a special trip.
Beautiful place love the town, the food, the people pretty safe lots of things to buy outside the place they have a mobile market.
You really travel back in time. There you have a huge amount of real art distributed along a huge monastery. As a part of the museum theres a real treasury of baroque in the temple. They really give you an account of that time. Cabrera and Villalpando. It really worth a try.
Antique Jesuit colleague with beautiful interior. Rich in history and items ofnthat age. Just avoid selfie takers on each religious item.
Beautiful paintings and historic items throughout. The main halls of the church all have important pieces on display as well as takes on some of the early invaders in Mexico. Make sure to have a nice meal before you go to this museum as its very large and it can take several hours to cover everything.
Great place to visit. Lots of rooms displaying a great variety of interesting historical items. Entrance is free on Sundays.
Spectacular! A most when you visit Mexico City although it is far from other tourist areas. A grand barroc temple, great paintings and the areas where the school used to be as well as the gardens are well kept.
This is a superb experience. The historic buildings, the square, the markets, the ceremonies, surrounding restaurants. Charming town. Dont miss it.
Worth the drive from Mexico City to see this beautiful town, Tepotzotlan, the cathedral and lively square. So colourful.
