Large museum with 20,000+ artifacts from the 16th century to modern times, plus a restaurant & shop.
Great exhibits with a staggering variation of paintings, pottery, photos, and sculptures. Amazing history and different time periods!
Great experience that sows the true history of a big country
Filled with interesting art of all kinds. Really cool place to visit when in Bogotá.
its a big museum. there is too long line at entrance (15.oct.22since only one person at ticket office... the building probably used as a jail, but no much information at the museum about its own history.
Beautiful museum with huge amounts of collection.
Lots of stuff to see; full picture of Colombia. Wish I hadnt gone on my first day there when I was still adjusting to the altitude. One star off for not having much English
Pretty good museum and (unusually for Colombiahas quite a bit of English information, too. Good balance between art and history; tries to spice up the displays and make things more interactive. Free after 3. Has a simple cafe and bathrooms, but the building itself (an old prisonis pretty epic.
Its been one of the best museums Ive visited ever. Free entrance on Sundays, interactive exposition. Its mostly about Colombia, but it tells about history, lately conflicts, geography, and botanic. I was there the entire afternoon and I needed to rush to finish.
The museum is big. However I find it very disorienting. As a visitor from abroad not knowing much about Colombian history, I was expecting to see a museum that’s way more organized. In the rooms I felt like the things are randomly placed there, from different épocas and regions without a common theme. The museum facilities are also very old and as a museum fan, I felt like I didn’t learn much at all.
Diverse exhibition of various exhibits from the eras of the state of Colombia. Unfortunately, a common thread is completely missing. In each exhibition room are exhibited a wide variety of pieces that do not match each other.
Well organized museum depicting the tumultous birth and growth of the Country. Not huge, easy to maneuver. Mostly in Spanish with some exhibits translated to English.
Loved this museum. Lots of information about Colombian culture and history. Pre and pos Hispanic. Take at least 2 hours to visit it.
There are many things in the musuem. For example, you can see the original clothes at the second floor.and take a picture of many paintings.i think the things of this place are very multiple.if you go to Bogotá,you should visit in here.
Such a beautiful museum!! Its a very interactive and inclusive place to visit in Bogotá 🇨🇴I loved it so much 💞
Very shallow descriptions of issues in Colombia. My favorite exhibits were the feminist and fashion ones. But the art was all made by men, and there were no exhibits on contemporary issues.
It is sad the fake (mock or forcedintrusion of the "gender ideology" in the museum exibits. The attempt to redifine the history is not fair. It is true that in the human history there are lots of bad moments, but good and bad events in the past are facts alteady. We the youngers need to know the history as it was. The curators of the museum shall consider an imparcial point of view, over their own perception. They have converted the museum in arts gallery, and are doing apollogy to their ideologies.
The National Museum is deserving of its name given that it’s exhibits focus almost entirely on the history and art of Colombia 🇨🇴, and given the diversity of material on display. For me, it is a handsome venue which I enjoyed waking through, and an interesting re-purposing of a prison. However, I feel that it is a museum that tries to do too much, leaving the visitor overwhelmed with somewhat of a collage of both meaningful artifacts and less important ephemera beginning with prehistoric antiquities and continuing to the present day. For serious students of Colombia history, however, it contains a lot of material thought and research. Well worth visiting but perhaps best appreciated after a course in Colombian history. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed my visit.
Beautiful place. Very easy to walk around. Great pieces of art and history. Located in a particularly lovely part of town.
A little disappointed. Did not give a good history of Columbia. Exhibits were only average. Commentary only in Spanish (but thats my problem)
Multiple hours of interesting stuff here, arranged in various anthropological narratives of Colombian ancient and recent history, as well as quite a bit of classic art. Warning there are only a few English captions, so if you dont speak Spanish you may be stuck having to use a translate app to understand details
Amazing museum with lots of interesting pieces, not onky from Colombian history but also from other places in Latin America.
Interesting enough for a few hours!Nice staff, lack of any non Spanish signage or any other information though. The 4,000 peso or $1 entry fee is very cheap but so is everything in Bogota. Not the most interesting of exhibits but good enough for a two hour visit. Nice shop, toilets and cafe on site.
Beautiful museum full of history!! You see all different art, gold and just very interesting. Also good to note that on Sundays it is free entry! Must visit when going to Bogotá
Great place to learn about the countrys past and present. Weekend is more crowded but line up goes by quickly. The visit took me about 2hrs if you skim thru and just focus on few things of your interest.
Great place to visit, I love comics and this museum had a heck of a great collection ( very hard to fine examples!), interesting information at a very affordable price!.
Youll really learn a lot about Colombias history if youre not familiar with the countries long, rich past. The layout is a bit odd, but there are so many pieces of art and exhibits that it makes it all worthwhile to wander a bit.
Well worth visiting. A great collection of Columbian archeology, culture, and art. Takes from 2 to 4 hours. No English tours. Limited English audio and plaques.
Entrance fee is 4000 COP. Museum is about cultural history of Colombia. 2-3 hours is enough to visit the museum.
A very good museum that explains the history of Colombia and doesnt shy away from the more brutal times or paintings.Extremely affordable and even had an exhibit of the Santo and Kaliman comic books, which was quite interesting to see.
The exhibits have a stronger emphasis on the contemporary history of colombia and the lifestyles of Spanish settlers. On the top floor, there are oil paintings by various Colombian artists.
It was a nice experience! Some of the expositions were closed but we still enjoyed it a lot!
Beautiful collections, great exhibits and easily accessible. When you come to Bogota, you have to visit this museum. Thats a must!
First place I visited on my visit to the city. Big museum in a former prison. Very informative exhibits with some captions in English
The museum was beautiful only thing, their was no English translation available. Being a tourist that was really hard.
Awesome place...... Learning point to learn Colombian history .... pre and well as colonial
Great museum with, both historic and artistic contributions. The building, itself, has a unique coexistence to the experience as it was a former prison. Must visit!
Unbelievable, must-see, bedazzling. Exactly, it is one of the best museum in Bogota.
The museum is very well laid out, organized and displays are very interesting, covering many flavors of Columbia.( ** of English descriptions as well..)Well worth the visit.I would just like to ad; It is an absolute embarrassment that one has to BUY your own toliet paper. Really ??
Thats such a nice visit ; I think it used to be a prison, which brings kind of a real charm to the place.Pre-columbian art stuffs were really interesting, and as its a national museum, you will learn about the Colombian History. Some parts of the museum were closed the day I went there, I dont know if its due to the Covid context or not.But to go out in the little garden was not allowed and that was because of the Covid. Not all documentation is translated, therefore work your Spanish before the visit 😉
Nice museum, which is mainly focused for art exhibitions and history of Colombia. To see everything will take you around 2 hours cause they dont have open all the rooms. Entrance is cheap and building has very interesting history. Recommended to go there!
What a wonderful museum. Located in a colonial prison, the courtyards are spectacular. You will find many treasures here not the least of which is art, sculptures and paintings from Colombian artist. Do not miss the Great Hall featuring iconic pieces.Give yourself at least 2 hours for a visit. There is a guided tour you can follow on your smartphone or tablet. We did have a bit of problem downloading it but the staff was able to help us.
Beautiful building with incredible history itself (former prison), and a tremendous volume of artifacts. Unfortunately theres only about 10 percent of the signage and plaques in English, and the entire museum lacks narrative - the rooms are just full of things from wildly different eras with no attempt at an educational narrative tract. Still worth the visit, very affordable entry price.
It was an amazing experience, full of messages about our origins and history in South America, and of course history about Colombia and all the details about past civilizations!.... Local artist put their histories there too.. beautiful pictures i really recommend this place!
Its a magnificent place. The exhibits are beautifully put together, great masterpieces by great artists and outstanding pieces that represent the rich Colombian culture. All the artwork and pieces from the pre-hispanic cultures are truly amazing. The guides and other staff are very friendly.
Its an incredible place for take a walk and enjoy all the art, there is a couple of new exposicions whit a lot of history the entrance cost 4.000 pesos
Nice museum about the aboriginal history and far more until today. Culture of Colombia! Entry fee is not too high, for students 3,000 COP and normal price 4,000 COP. The museum is located in an old castle-like building which is nice to walk around and there are nice things to see. Its not a typical museum I would say, also very good for photo-opportunities. There is an Art section as well with lots of paints and pictures. You can look at them without security glass. Statues and lots of historical goods to see. Spent here 3 hours to catch some culture.
Absolutely beautiful and must check out museum in town! Beautiful art work and nicely outlined the national history.
Very interesting place. Show where we coming from, and how much we are changed in 12000 years. Very instructive explanation of the gold artifact manufacturing. Lots of different views of or past and the origin of our culture. Cheap entrance. Allow to take pictures. Nice store at the exit.
One of many Museums in Bogota, this one resides in an old prison in downtown Bogota proper. Many pre-columbian exhibits, colonial, and modern art displays.Nearby is the "Coloseum", planetarium, Montserrate, and on Sunday the "Market of fleas" on the boulevard. The street market might also be on Saturday but I would ask around first.Plan well and youll have a pleasant and memorable time.
I’m not wowed by the food. Typical museum type food. Don’t know why the guidebook raves about here
