Cultural history museum with a collection of traditional Guatemalan clothing, textiles & ceramics.
Accueil succinct. Endroit pas climatisé et très très chaud ! Visite insupportable fait au pas de course.
Wonderful history/textiles museum. Excellent history of the country played out visually. Highly recommended.
Truly worth it if you admire indigenous art. Highly recommended.
I love going to museums, especially when it’s about a different culture that I am from 😊 the museum is not that big but it’s definitely worth going! You can see so many interesting things, such as traditional clothes that was worn back in the day, pottery, paintings, etc. They also have a small souvenir shop in the museum, which had very reasonable prices. Staff was super friendly and willing to help whenever we asked questions.
Great to connect with the roots of Guatemala
Precioso museo sobre el textil indigena gualtemalteco. En mi opinion es altamente recomendable
A hidden gem in Guatemala city. We went to this museum based on a recommendation from our travel book. But it exceed our (already highexpectations. Located a little out of the main city area Museo Ixchel has a mind blowing collection of huipils on top of a very strong historical narrative of Guatemala’s textile history. Not only will you learn a lot about weaving and traditional clothing, the information given (in Spanish & Englishwill equally allow you to learn about Guatemala, its culture and history. From the first settlers to the modern textile revolution. This museum is as good for people who know nothing of textiles as well as for the passionate/experts. Or for those, like us, who were looking to better understand Guatemala’s past and present. Moreover, you will get to enjoy Carmen Pettersen art depiction of traditional costumes... which left us speechless. As a plus the staff is very knowledgeable, showing great kindness and are dedicated to their work!A must see... We definitely plan on coming back very soon.
No me aportó nada nuevo.
I went here with two friends. And although textiles are not my area of interest I did enjoy my visit and learned a couple of things too.
New must see exhibits blending beautiful antique Mayan pottery with the oldest of the museum textiles. And a wonderful new wing with a time capsule of mayan textiles evolution through time.Museo Ixchel really hit the mark this time. Museogrgraphy and lighting is hugely improved. A great new experience. Highly recommended!
Excellent. The presentation of the collections is breathtaking. Photos are of the open public areas. Photos allowed in rooms 2-6 if I remember the rules...all material is in English and Spanish. Beautiful and tells a great and important story.
Interesting, especially how the customs and fashion changes over time, even for indigenous clothing
Beautiful. Well organized? The gift shop is a must.
Such a beautiful museum. If you’re in the Guatemala City area and want to know more about indigenous clothing and the Spanish influence on their textiles come see !
Nice museum with interesting permanent exhibits about pre-columbian textiles, colonial textiles and a little bit about modern Guatemalan textiles. Had several interesting temporary exhibits in March 2021 as well.
Great collection of indigenous clothing of Guatemala.
Great museum to visit. I found it very interesting to understand Mayan textiles and the history of Guatemala. The staff were very friendly and I would recommend the museum, if you’re visiting Guatemala.
Really interesting and well done. Absolutely recommended, maybe better to visit before visiting the rest of the country to better understand what you are seeing in textiles.
Great display of Mayan history
Recomendado!
Great venue for events and exhibitions
Good descriptions
Very good
Second trip, saw all three movies.....another must see if you have never been! Dont forget to hit up the gift shop, traditional items available but also really fun and artistic items!
Be sure to watch their videos as well
More than you wanted to know about the original and history of Guatemalan clothing!
The work they are doing is amazing. The preservation of Mayan textiles is key for Guatemalan identity and deep rooted into the culture. The people that work there are very nice, very devoted to what they do.
Nice museum, but one of the 4 rooms are under the reconstruction right now
Great place to visit, with a lot of culture
Grazie
It is a great museum where you can learn more about Guatemalan culture
Very nice, well organized. Come if you want to know more about the indigenous cultures in Guatemala
I really enjoyed seeing the cultural history through the clothing worn by the different Mayan people.
Top of the line museum
A beautiful museum that shows incredible pieces of their multiple collections.
Fabulous collection, informative curatorial notes - offered in both english and español - helpful staff and impressive mission.
I highly recommend the waist loom weaving workshops!
