Exhibits on Costa Rica's military & cultural history housed in a former barracks & prison building.
Free museum. The presentation of history is truly interesting, meaningful and symbolic. I love how they Museum is able to connect past and present of all Costa Ricans. My teenager and I were so lucky that one of the room stewards guided us through. Thanks Mr. Blanco.
Magistral.
🌈Sumamente limpio, 🧹 amplia señalización, 🚦 personal increíblemente amable y dispuesto a enseñar y explicar. 🙋🏻♂️La entrada es gratis. 💲Me encanto y vale muchísimo la pena visitarlo. 👌🏻

Great place to learn about Costa Rican history
I was very impressed. I was once a historical museum curator. This museum rivals the National Museum in San Jose in quality of exhibits. And amazingly, its free.
Very interesting museum on the history of Costa Rica.
Interesting and free museum. Staff couldnt have been kinder
Very interesting and well organized exhibitions. Super friendly and helpfull staff. Nice views of the city and surroinding mountains from the museum roof.
Smaller museum with six or so rooms filled with exhibits. It was free and nice way to kill time before our evening flight back, since we didnt want to drive into San Jose
They have wifi
Free entrance, worth it to learn a bit more about the Costa Rican history.
Me sorprendió, fuimos domingo 10 am.
Really cool.. but kinda boring when its still so empty and limited in capacity.
Best attention to tourist. Complying with all the covid measures. Excelent place!
Former prison, nowadays a nice museum
Great to take kids to learn about CRican history. Easy to find and get there. It is free and it has also art exhibition sometimes
Nice place with a lot of relics.
I really liked the museum, could learn something about the history of costa rica. Some signs are in english, some not. The staff was very helpful and welcoming, they opened the roof terrace for me and the views were great.
Very nice way of learning the history of our hero.
ALWAYS WITH CULTURAL THINGS VERY IMPORTANT...HISTORICAL PLACE IN THE HEART OF ALAJUELA...YOUVE GOTTA VISIT IT...GENEALOGY EVENT 2019...P.V.
Good information about the history of costa rica. If you are in alajuela definitely should go and check it out. Its free to get in.
More friendly faces - the wardens were keen to unlock the door to the roof top, letting us slowly walk the perimeter to take in the sights, sounds and smells of Alajuela. The exhibits are well presented and clearly show how war had its place in their history.
This was a great free museum in a nice space. Lots of historical information, enough English descriptions for visitors with limited Spanish to understand exhibits. There was a fantastic art exhibit upstairs when we were there.
Free entrance, the main exhibition has been renewed. worth a visit
Excellent museum. Well laid out. No charge.
Great museum and free
I liked it! I really wanted to learn more about the history of Costa Rica but nearly everything was in Spanish so I had difficulty understanding. Other than that, its a beautiful place.
There is not much to see here, is just a historical building used for certain events.
That was incredible experience I learning about the history of my country
Very good maintained, interesting and easy access.
Its a very interesting place to learn about the history of 1856 war against William Walker. The Museum is small... the building itself is a historical site and the exhibitions are very well done and tell you the story from the Costarican point of view.
I enjoyed this museum. The town is very nice as well.
Good place if you want to know about costarrican history
this Museum seems to get better each time that I go there it gives a good view of the Alajuela history. The staff is friendly and very informative. I wish that there was more in English but I realize that this is a big job for a small Museum. If youre ever in Alajuela and get caught in the rain it is a good place to pass the time. They also have good clean restrooms.
The exhibition is Spanish only.
It is a small museum, but has a lot of history of Alajuela. The museum will not take you too long to cover and is free.
Pm
It was alright. I like this kind of stuff, but it was hard to understand the museum since I am a novice Spanish speaker. Wish I had a tour guide, but its free.
