This stately 17th-century residence with numerous gardens is now a museum with period furnishings.
Museo Ex Hacienda San Gabriel de Barrera in Guanajuato
Description
This place was gorgeous! They could use a better bar area, but the ground are amazing.Food was acceptable, but the winner was the atmosphere.
MoreGreat place to visit, nit even really expensive items
So beautiful! Reminded me of the haciendas from novelas haha. We were visiting from the US and were able to get the student discount. It was $2.50 USD. So many nice places to take photos. So worth it!
MoreHad fun taking pictures here in the middle of the week. There were no other visitors!
MoreBeautiful gardens and a nice old house built at the end of the 17th century for the family of a local mine owner. There is a cafe on-site with some snacks and drinks.
MoreThis place is beautiful! Nice gardens. We bought the tickets at the counter, no need to purchase in advance. It wasnt very crowded when we went but there was a wedding happening in one of the gardens so we couldnt see that area.
MoreI liked the museum am sure there are many stories in times gone by. The gardens were very quiet and seats everywhere. A shady spot to relax away from the hubub of the centro. I was treated very politely at entrance, a littleSpanish goes a long way. Its very easy by public bus from Plaza de la Paz pared and it brought me right next to Baratillo coming back under the mining tunnels. If you like trees shrubs cacti and bouganvillea, with a beautiful Roman gardenand Orange Garden then it is a lovely reasonably priced afternoon out with a fine cafe at end.
MoreA beautiful hacienda with a variety of gardens to visit. The rooms and furniture was interesting, but the gardens were the real treasure.
MoreBeautiful hacienda! A bit worn through time but very worth a visit. Was there in morning and the tranquility with the fresh breeze was delightful. Truly a little oasis. Taxis always easy to find up the hill from the entrance so transportation is no problem. A highlight of the area.
MoreEasy to walk to the central plaza. Lots of parking, across from the bus station. Great AC, great TV stations with many in english, French and Spanish
MoreIts a great place to visit and watch concerts in Cervantino. The only reason it gets 3 stars is because they dont have seats for journalists even though there is enough space. They get to watch the performances standing, which I find very inconsiderate and inconvenient.
MoreWonderful place to visit! A must see attraction when in Guanajuato City.
Great hacienda. Worth a trip.
Amazing hacienda with beautiful gardens and the history of some of the silver mining families. A beautiful place to relax and stroll through.
MoreBeautiful well groomed property with a beautiful museum where you can get a glimpse of the way the rich use to live. The gardens are spectacular and if you get there early, you have most of the park by yourself
MoreVery pretty and informative. Centralocated in the main plaza.
Love this place so much. It is so peaceful and beautiful. Nice small outdoor cafe with complete bar when you first enter. Highly recommend you spend a day there to just unwind. They also rent several spots in the gardens for weddings and other special occasions. ❤
MoreOn our last day in GTO we decide to go to the Ex Hacienda To pass time till it was time to leave to the airport, we spent three hours wandering around the estate mesmerized by all its gardens. There is a cafe with decent burgers and a tasty refreshing lemonade. Take time to go a visit the hacienda, you won’t be disappointed.
MoreTruly beautiful place! Going at 9.30 am on a Sunday, we had the entire place to ourselves. In the early morning sunlight, the gardens do look magically enchanted! The entry costs 45 mxn/adult,30 mxn/child, 40 mxn to take pictures with a camera. Sufficient parking available and it is free of cost. The museum showcasing the living quarters is well preserved but not extensive, it is the gardens that one has to devote time to. The QR code at the entry as well as the website have a map with numbers. Follow the numbers in order so as to not miss any corner of the garden.
MoreMy favorite place in town ! Gardens are so nice to have a walk or just sit there and read a good book. They also have a Café. You can ask for a personal guide to visit the main house, and I must admit I’ve been very lucky, mine was really interesting and told me many stories about the city and its construction. I would come back just to enjoy the peacefulness of this site !From Mercado Hidalgo, just take a pecera (small bus, pink and whitewhich goes to “Diseño” and ask to stop at Hotel Misión/Ex Hacienda Gabriel Barrera. Both sites are next to each other. Transfer should last 20min at most.
MoreOne of the most beautiful jewels of the area. A must see if you visit the city. The place is extraordinarily well kept and preserved. Take the whole morning and make it a nice day for a long walk.
MoreWords cannot express how enchanting this ex-hacienda truly is. How easy it can be to get lost exploring the grounds and finding beauty around every corner. Come here for a couple hours or all day, you can explore on your own or be taken on a tour, you will not leave feeling disappointed!
MoreStunning and peaceful. I thoroughly enjoyed my rejuvenating walk through the gardens and the estate. Not too many tourist choose to stop at this beautiful place so I got to peruse the area essentially alone. Stop and sit in one of the gardens to read, journal or simply enjoy. Let the estate take you back in time as you wander through the furnished rooms. If you get hungry there is a cafe restaurant. This was probably one of my favorite places I visited in Guanajuato!
MoreOne of my favorite places to come and relax. There is no too much tourists here so is quite and calm. They have nice bar and beer. So after walking on those gardens get a Cold beer.
MoreBeautiful botanical garden in Guanajuato! It was very peaceful and well maintained. I would highly encourage coming to see it while in town. There werent too many people around, so we could really enjoy it.
MoreI could stay in the beautiful gardens of this hacienda forever!!
This place is a must see if you are in the area.
Highly suggest the private tour, very informative, funny, and the tour guide knows so much history of the city. Only downside for the non-Spanish speakers is that the tour is only in Spanish.
MoreOne of the "hidden" gems of Guanajuato, and I say hidden because not many take the time to visit this. It a beautiful hacienda and it has a lot of neat little gardens and areas
MoreVery beautiful place. The gardens are well kept, we got there pretty early so we had the place to ourselves most of the time. Admission for adults is $40
MoreA beautiful place well worth the visit. 50p taxi ride one way. Nice little restaurant but we didnt eat there.
MoreBeautiful gardens to wander around or picnic in. The museum is cool to check out. Perfect for a cheap adventure out of the city centre.
MoreLovely gardens to stroll in. We brought a lunch and sketch pads. Its nice to spend a few hours just soaking in the gardens.
MoreReally beautiful place, specially if you want to make a photography season. It has different and beautiful gardens, so you can make photografies with diferentes sceneries in just one place. Talking about costs, its OK, it costs 500 peso per hr (only for photography seasonand you and other 9 persons can enter.
MoreA must visit if you are in any way shape or form a naturalist, enjoy botanical gardens and/or architecture and history. We went to see a concert here which was in its own, incredible. We were very pleasantly surprised by how large this ex hacienda is. We thought this to be the best afternoon in Guanajuato. The gift shop is perfect to snagging well-priced home goods. There is also a restaurant, bar, and café. Make sure to bring a hat and a bottle of water, youll get lost in this place as did we. Highest recommendations!!
MoreIm so glad we visited this museum, it is definitely worth it. The hacienda is beautiful, and the grounds are extensive, so give yourself plenty of time to explore.
MoreThis place is beautiful, definitely worth the visit. Make sure you bring a camera!
This is a beautiful place in México and not very common, I lived 3 years in Guanajuato and never noticed about this place, I went on a weekend and it was really quiet and peacefully, very few people, there is a hotel with same name very close to it so it would make a perfect weekend with your loved one, some areas are used for events during the weekends so you might find a few chairs and tables when you go, but anyway place is so big that it wont bother you that much, and its really cheap too, like 1.5usd entrance tickets, a must do in Guanajuato
MoreWe really enjoyed our visit and tour. Very educational.
we stopped by on our way leaving town and it was definitely worth it, the place had awesome relaxing vibe, we took a local guide for the tour around the hacienda and he did amazing job telling us about the history of the place and afterwards spent some time strolling around the beautiful gardens
MoreWe had a wonderful Sunday morning out in the Hacienda. Its an incredibly well kept estate, with loads of ground to walk and enjoy the pleasure of being a bit closer to nature. The Hacienda itself is in very good shape and interesting to inspect. They have a little coffee house too, which serves quite good espresso, just be careful, it is hell strong
MoreLovely retreat.. we were basically alone on the premises. The gardens and outdoor areas are well maintained and peaceful but a lack of adequate conservation measures inside the home means that this place will not be of this quality for too much longer.. I could smell the furniture dry rotting.
MoreIts a very awesome place to go enjoy all types of gardens and the design of this place is incredibly beautiful I wish I own this place Im rich enough to live in this house.
MoreAs beautiful as the city of Guanajuato is, it is surrounded by tourist traps of all sorts, including bogus or crappy museums (made for the sake of sucking every last penny or peso out of the inadvertent touristfor every taste. San Gabriel the Barrera is among the honourable exceptions. Located outside the downtown area of the city, its easy to miss it, yet worth it.The house of the hacienda has been rehabilitated in proper fashion & they offer free guided tours (you need to tip the guide), our guide was very knowledgeable & spoke very decent English, making the tour inside the house very enjoyable for my Canadian friend. After that you can feel free to wander in the gardens which are beautiful & well kept. You can buy a bottle of wine at the café in the museum to accompany.
MoreHistoric mining hacienda well worth the visit. Do allow a guide to explain the history of life In those times. Paying the guide small tip is more than worth it!
MoreVery beautiful gardens and a place to walk for long time and even sit there and relax!
MoreBellisimo! Puedes pasar todo el dia en este sitio.La entrada es muy economica y tambien se les cobra addicionalment para tomar fotos pero super economico! El tour guide era muy buena onda y en verdad sabe como contarte de la historia de la hacienda.Gorgeous place to visit you can really spend all day there! The entry fee is very economic and they do charge an additional fee to take photographs (but like i said very economicIf youd like they even have a small outdoor restaurant where they will serve you food/beverages. This place is also available to rent for events/parties.
MoreVERY beautuful gardens and museum. Entrance cost was 30 pesos per person.
This place is beautiful, you can spend a few hours walking around. I recommend visiting early morning. Do not leave guanajuato without seeing this place, read a little of the history before going. Take a bus from downtown guanajuato. DO NOT MISS YOUR STOP! Or you will have to walk a long way back.
MoreThis hacienda is definitely a place to go to when in guanajuato. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is helpful. They were making improvements on the grounds at the time but it did not distract from the beauty of this place
