Museo De San Ildefonso - Museum in Los Reyes La Paz, Mexico
Couldnt visit Riveras first mural, amphitheatre not possible to enter when visiting the museum. What is the point of visiting then?
A treasury of murals by the giants of Mexican art.
Nice place with cool activities.Must go on the museum nights and take a workshop of spoken word, really good teachers.
If you like murales, you can’t miss this place! Always interesting to see art exhibitions. The architecture of the palazzo is wonderful too. Closed on Mondays
Riveras first mural is here and I loved the other works by Siquieros and others. Definitely worth the trip especially since the presidential palace is closed.
Such a beautiful experience I had here with my family. The guided tours are just incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The murales of San Idelfonso are exquisite 🧡
Beautiful architecture and garden. Currently they have a retrospective on Cauduro which is not to be missed.
Great museum. Giant space with Lots of murals. Quiet and serene
This is a very good museum to see and bring family
This is UNAM s museum in Mexico city downtown with very interesting art exhibitions. This used to be a prep school that was the first long ago.
Nice spot with tons of murals to check out
Worth visiting. The place is gorgeous and the murals are great. I can just imagine how lucky students were to attend school at this place.
December 2021. The museum is now open Thursday through Sunday. If your object in going is to see Riveras 1st mural, La Creación, you should know that the space it resides in is currently unavailable for viewing. Its reopening date is indefinite, according to the young man handling tickets. Most of the salons in the beautiful building are closed and renovation work is going on in one of the patios. Still, the murals are visible and well marked, and there is an extensive and well documented (in Spanishphotography exhibit on the top floor (up until February I think- check the Museum website), with photos by Mexican and International photographers that Francisco Toledo collected over the years. There is also some information on the roots of Toledos political activism over the years; and segments of a documentary film. Its an impressive show. Museum signage is pretty weak so one must ask where the entry door to the start of the exhibit salons is as the door was closed when we arrived. Entry into the exhibit space is limited to 20 people at a time but that didnt seem to be a problem on a weekday afternoon.
This place is very close to the zócalo, its beautiful with striking murals from the most famous muralists in Mexico. The building Idris is full of history, one very related to the Mexican academia, theres one room in particular that it shows all the ceremony needed when future doctors (PhDpresented their final exam.
This is an increíble place of you are into Muralismo and other manifestations of arts. Great architecture too. Recommend to visit!
A building part of Mexicos history. Full of murals and cultural activities. Also presents important exhibitions.
One of the most beautiful buildings in the Centro Historico. Originally a high school, this museum has dozens of murals from Rivera and other famous Mexican artists from the 1920s to the 1940s. Exhibitions change all the time but they are usually about great topics.
Do not miss this slice of Mexican history and the 1920s murals illustrating the social chaos and the hopes of the new revolution. The building itself is stunning too.
Wow, the Orozco murals are incredible and powerful. Its also peaceful which was a nice break after crush of the surrounding street markets.
Historic and incredible building. Artwork is a must see.
I visited the museum Wednesday midday and it was so calm. I took the time to enjoy the art <3
Super beautiful building, it is a great museum for temporary exhibitions, you can find variety of events here
Milestone. Must see; Orozcos work, said to be one of The most representative of his vast production. The building is impeccable, you are transported to a time when it was one of the most important schools of the Nueva Espana. It is easy to imagine teachers and students interacting, building the new world. Sit on a bench in the main yard, let yourself be transported while admiring the architecture. They usually have excellent expos. This time they had one about the art of insect eating! The store is good, you can buy pictures of the murals.
Surprisingly interesting with some great murals, temporary modern art exhibits and beautiful architecture.
The murals was beautiful! But that was all there was, so not much to see.
Nice historical place!!. The paintings are awesome!!
See the first murals of Diego Rivera and Orosco. This is a historical setting with many meaningful works. Also temporary exhibits. Just a few blocks from the Zócalo and Templo Mayor.
Simply breathtaking murals, and a cool stroll through many levels of arcaded walkways. Also, this is the most amazing neighborhood in CDMX, with a pyramid complex two blocks away, and terrific colonial architecture - truly, the oldest neighborhood in town.
Beautiful place worth the cheap entrance fee. Many nice murals by orozco but I never saw any Diego murals
Very disappointing visit, as all rooms were closed and under construction and the only things you could see where the hallways, which are beautiful, but not what you pay the entrance fee for. Also, none of the staff felt the need to let us know about this, despite being Spanish natives and having no communication issues...
Great Museum with the best constant exhibitions from all over the world!!
I spent 3 wonderful years of my life1965-1967 (mi divina Prepa 1 !!looking this pictures OMG all memories came back! walking across those beautiful patios, enjoying the murals and The Generalito room! and of course attending classes !
Hugh building. Many beautiful murals painted by José Orozoco. Access was restricted to the main hallways only as the rooms were under construction. No Rivera’s at this time.
This is perhaps one the most emblematic buildings in the historical downtown of Mexico City. It was funded by the jesuits to bring education to the viceroyalty (Colonial Mexico), as the jesuit society gained economic momentum during this time the building we know today began to take shape. With the exile of the jesuits by King Charles III, the building served several purposes such as the french/american troop quarters during war time. By the time Juarez was president and his secular reforms on education the building housed the newly created "national high school" with a school curriculum based on positivism. It then formed part of the National University, now the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Currently a museum as of 1992 after restoration since it was closed to the public by the 80s.
Disappointing. Plenty of exhibition space with only one main exhibit showing. If not for the occasional architectural gem, not particularly worth a visit. Exhibit at the time was of nativity models and the like. General entry was 50 pesos.
Its an amazing museum, highly recommended. It exhibits and highlights many great mural artwork from Orozco (masterpieces in the second floor), Siqueiro and Rivera. Its the place where Friday Kahlo and Diego Rivera met for the first time. It is an absolute must do while in Mexico City. Entry is free on Tuesday. It is recommended to go with a tour though to better understand the murals.
Amazing and iconic place in Mexico Citys downtown. The building and the quality of its exhibits are among the best ones in this country.
Great historic place that it used to be college but now exhibits great temporary collections.
The only disappointment here is that there is no available map or plan of the building. Its a large complex and the muras ls are spread around the building. Theyre currently showcasing the successes of their more prominent alums (not just the muralusts, but the scientists, architects, etcand its pretty impressive.
Great place to visit. The museum used to be public high school no. 1. Actually, as museum hold one of the best collection for ancient Mexico story.
Beautiful musuem, the building is awesome itself. Some days entrance is free but anyway is not expensive. Great art exhibitions, well organized
This is without doubt a great Museum Full of History and art, with the temporary exhibitions and the guides always is a great experience, also you can pay with card your ticket.
The interior was well maintained and interesting, but I didnt realize it housed a science museum. (Did I enter on the correct side? The museum portion was ok, but being that it was a Sunday, the majority of the visitors were middle schoolers or younger.
The expositions are always interesting, there are free guided visits and free admission on Tuesdays, the building is very beautiful and they always have different kinds of activities, cinema club and more
Former arts college, beautiful colonial architecture, full-sized reproductions of some of the most famous old-world sculptures, cultural events.
Another one of Mexico Citys many marvellous museums. If you go, ask if it is possible to see the theatre...its stunning with an early Diego Rivera mural behind the stage. My guide, Mariana, was lovely and knowledgeable.
Great museum. Nice seasonal galleries, events and wonderful permanent artwork. Lovely! The beautifully decorated building is one of the nicest jewels of art in the center of the city. An excellent host of the best art galleries and exhibits.
Great architecture, and very important museum. It used to be a medical school and part of the national autonomous university of Mexico. Expositions here are usually world class and worth experiencing.
This place is beautiful! They have exhibits but honestly for me the main attraction was the museum itself, the paintings (muralson the wall are fantastic and the inner gardens beautiful. I can only imagine what it would have been like when it was a school... I would have loved to have a school like that. Go!
It has great exhibits and has very nice murals. You should definitely visit this place if you are visiting Mexico City.
