Meh
Excellent exhibitions and a great japanese garden in the back yard.
5 stars for the room with the Blanes paintings, amazing artist! Some very iconic paintings of the history of Uruguay.1 star for the other art exhibits, not my style. The Japanese garden is located behind the museum and also worth a visit.
MoreGreat experience
Minimal museum, great compared to other museums in Uruguay. Free to enter.
Amazing
This is an art museum on the same grounds as the Japanese gardens. One room has large impressive works of classic art. Another has a temporary exhibit -- clothing and textiles when we went there.Cant beat the price... $0A worthwhile destination!

Ok
Awesome place to spend your evening
Great huge paintings
Good museum
Love the place in general. Although its a small museum, the building itself is very attractive, and the exhibits are worth the visit.
MoreOk
Small but quality expositions. The curator does tours at time and explains art very clearly.
MoreNeeds a bit of maintenance. Cool place nonetheless.
tiny museum - half of it was closed when I went. I saw it all in 5 min. It isnt worth getting off the hop on hop off bus for this. they also have a japanese garden which is also tiny. skip this stop!
MoreWonderful tiny Museum with some uruguayan work. The Museum has a beautiful Japanese garden on its backyard.

It’s a nice place to visit for art-lovers. However, if you’re not into this, you’ll probably find it boring.Of course, there are paintings by some of the most important Uruguayan artists (Blanes, Figari, Barradas... and even one by Torres García). But if you’re not into art, this is not the place for you. Trust me.However, if you go there to visit the local Japanese garden, give it a try, as the museum is right there.
MoreOk
Nice museum and gardens in an impressive old house. The Blanes paintings are not to be missed. They have a video showing of the restoration efforts done and with explanation. Spanish only.
MoreNice museum with maintaining the originality of Uruguay great artists. Their different styles and paintings are a must visit
MoreSuper
I was so excited to visit. Unfortunately its in such a sad unkept state. Other than the very few important works of art. I would say not worth the free admission.
MoreArts & Crafts from famous uruguayan artists, beautiful place its free and on the back side there is the japanese garden you must go.
MoreAmazing museum
Very beautiful place surrounded by great looking gardens
Worth a stop to get an overview of Uruguayan painting and prints. Also hosts special exhibits. Be sure to visit the Japanese garden behind the museum.
MoreSmall collection. Not very modern.
The park outside is very nice and the museum has historical national art, as well as contemporary artists.
MoreBeautiful museum and completely free. Each room is better than the next and the staff is very informative. (If you understand Spanish)Buy something from the gift shop to keep this place open.Unfortunately the Japanese garden is closed on rainy days so keep that in mind.
MoreVery beautiful museum and lovely paintings
Im from Uruguay and I have my reservation a about some of the information.
Must see uruguayan works of art. Nice room for itinerant exhibitions. Beautiful building, with patios and garden. Also, donated by Japanese government, the tiny and well kept, Japanese Garden. The place is accessible with wheelchair, not without difficulty.
MoreNice paintings and the staff is really nice.
Amazing museum! The home was amazing the paintings remarkable. I see why he was so renowned.
MoreContains historically relevant paintings known by every Uruguayan.
Beautiful
Small garden
Nice building & garden, the collection is very small. It worth a a visit if you are in the area.
MoreFrom my POV, best museum in Montevideo
Great museum, permanent and temporary exhibits well curated. Also has a beautiful covered garden to relax even on rainy days. Totally worth the visit!
