This place offers a lot of rich information about what happened. That’s a lot of real old objects and 3 floors full of data. Worth it.
Excellent museography, Jörg takes time to guide the visitors and brings valuable details about the tragedy. Really emotional and touching.
Very knowledgeable curator, interesting story about the plane crash of 1972 in the Andes and their determination to return home.
One of the nicest museums I visited in Montevideo. Besides the already known heartbreaking and life changing story being told and honoured there, the very very knowledgeable and helpful staff helps a lot towards the overall experience, I loved it! Make sure you have money (dollars or pesos or reaisas they are no longer accepting cards due to the COVID pandemic.
Excellent experience. The staff was super friendly.
I unfortunately didnt get to spend as much time at this museum as I would have liked to but I enjoyed the brief time that I did have there. The exhibits were very interesting and the whole place worked well as both an educational facility and a memorial to the victims and survivors of the crash. I also liked the museums approach of trying to relate its extraordinary subject matter to lessons that could apply to everyday life, such as the importance of setting small goals to help with completing seemingly overwhelming tasks. One of the museum staff members (all of whom were very friendly and helpfulexplained to me that they emphasize this aspect in educational programs for children who visit the museum.
This museum, which displays the strength and courage of the human soul, will leave you speechless and force you realize how fragile life really is.An inspiring story of survival. We have seen the movie "Alive" read the book, and now have been to this outstanding museum which brought everything to life, and more importantly, pays tribute to ALL the people on the flight that fateful day.The staff at the Museum were exceptional providing additional informational and insight. This museum is not to be missed.
This was a really great experience! The curator really put together a fascinating look into such a tragedy but made sure you come out of there feeling uplifted by the spirit of the 16 people who survived!!!
Inspiring museum! Worth spending at least 45 minutes here.
Unbelievable and inspiring! Well done. German Film available. Descriptions in English.
Awesome museum! All displays and the short 15min film is in english in addition to spanish. Very interresting and it gave me additional facts I didnt know about this very special accident. The manager at the museum was very hands-on and guided us and was very nice.
A piece of contemporary history. A testament to the resilience of the human race. A tale of endurance against unsurmountable odds. We shall not go quietly into the good night! We will survive!!
Really interesting and informative museum. Knew the story already from reading the book but learned so much more. The letters some of the members wrote to loved ones before they passed are incredibly moving. The founder does a great job explaining things and is clearly passionate about it. Very much enjoyed the museum and so glad we fit it into our short stay!
Remarkable museum. An exciting and strong human story, presented in a fashion that is clear and understandable, the museum presents the drama of the event and has a great deal to teach all of us. The owner frequently gives casual lectures during the day that are filled with information!! This museum is not to be missed!!!
Museum tells a moving story that is culturally an important episode in modern Uruguyan history. Fully accessible to English language speakers. My best museum stop in Montevideo.
Its one of the best museums Ive ever been to. My visit to Uruguay was short but this museum was on my first priority list. And it didnt disappoint me. It has a full story of what happened in 1972. They have a short video of 10 minutes that you can watch with interviews of the survivors. Highly recommend this museum. Some parts of the museum are not allowed to take photos so be aware.
This museum is very professionally executed. The story of the events, the people, and perserverce of the human spirit will touch your emotions.
The exhibits are not only fascinating but also allow you to gain more gratitude and love for the gift of life. Furthermore, the employees were very kind and friendly. Come here to relax and learn!
Cool museum with exhibits in English, Spanish and Portuguese. A little expensive for a museum in Uruguay, but it is really interesting and take about 1-1.5 hours to visit.
This museum is well worth a visit. It provides an informed overview of the disaster and the artefacts & personal accounts are very emotive. The proprietor spoke excellent English and gave great tips on where to go next including taking the D1 bus along the coast. Many thanks!
Excellent, very informative. The tale of survival is informative and honest. One of the best museums I’ve been to.
Very informative and well documented. We were fortunate to have Curator take time to explain several of the exhibits. A tribute to all who experience the tragedy and to human determination to survive. A must in Montevideo!
Great little museum with a comprehensive explanation of every little detail you can imagine relating to the crash and survival events in the Andes in 1972. Whilst exhaustive in its detailing, it also really helps build a context of the conditions around the event. The founder and curator was on hand to answer questions and elaborate with yet more details (except about eating human flesh...although I didnt ask in case he knew about this too ;)!Ultimately, the museum leaves a lasting, moving impression, largely because of the statement by parents of the victims. Really amazing. I spent a lot longer here than any other museum or gallery I visited in Montevideo.
A very nice to learn about a miraculous survival of the Andes accident. Theres so many objects and remainings from the aircraft and passengers belongings, and you can watch a special video with many testimonials. Recommended.
What a great little museum. There is a fee to enter since it is a private museum. The staff speak English and the signes are in Spanish and English. The videos are in English or subtitled. Well worth the time. Lots of info on the crash and life of the survivors. The staff will answer any questions.
Very interesting museum about this drama/miracle event. The owner is personaly implicated and explained a lot about the story. We spent 2 hours inside and looked at almost everything.Highly recommended!
Even if you think you know the story, you should not skip this museum. The curator (who was walking around and interacting with guestshas really taken the time to put together a fantastic collection of art and artifacts. There are Spanish and English explanations of all exhibits. The best experience begins with a 15 minute video (Spanish audio, subtitles available in various languages, the docent will help with this). After this, wander the museum & TAKE YOUR TIME. There really is so much to see: photos and film from 1972 and more recently, actual equipment fashioned by the survivors to withstand the harsh environment, written and filmed testimonials from the survivors. There is also a full timeline of all 72 days, including parallel timelines from Uruguay and also the world. This amazing museum is not to be missed!
Honestly, this is the best museum I have ever been to. I spent like 2 hours there and read almost every plaque! Very interesting story told in a good way.
One of the best organized and presented small museums that I have ever been in. We spent almost two hours going through everything and watching the videos. Its a very inspiring story and deserves to be remembered.
Wonderful little museum. Fabulous job of telling the story. I was impressed with the artifacts that had been collected for display. Very happy that there were English translations of everything.
A great museum and well worth going and spending an hour in to understand more about this incredible tragedy
Amazing place to visit, even if you don’t know the history behind it.
Exhibiting the incident so powerful. Employees are very nice and helpful.
Outstanding museum. The most informative and detailed museum I have been to. The curator made an effort to come over and let me know extra details that werent in the interpretation. I expected a half an hour visit, I was there for two and a half hours. Well worth the 200 entry.
Awesome museum in the heart of old Montevideo. Really cool story about a rugby team that have a plane crash in the Andes and have to wait more than seventy days in a frozen valley. They have to resort to eating their dead friends, a truly harrowing story of hope and human survival.
This museum tells the story of the plane crashed in the Andes in 1973 and how several passengers were able to survive in spite of overwhelming odds. This small museum is very well done and gives insight into the challenges and innovation it took to survive.
Highly recommended. We spent at least 2 hours here. Very interesting place. The owner (I think his name was Jorgespoke with us personally and was very informative.
Fantastically interesting museum - needs at least 2 hours
Very interesting musuem about crazy historical event. The owner is personaly implicated and explains a lot about the story.
One of the best museums in MVD, very moving and well curated.
Superbly laid out museum. Respectful to the victims and stories of survival.
Very interesting and worth the 200 pesos, they fit a lot of information in the small place
This museum will give you a completely different and inspiring perspective on life, through the incredible story of survival and relentless hope. It was a major highlight for me in Montevideo and I recommend it to anyone who has the chance to see it. This museum is dedicated to the story depicted in "Alive" and shares thought-provoking and touching displays of people surviving the unthinkable.
If you are an art lover, you are going to enjoy savouring the exhibition. Even if you are not highly interested in art, you still can broaden your views.
Good museum and lovely people. They can explain about every details of the tragedy and miracle.
Interesting but lacks a bit more. It could have been a deeper experience if the collection was a bit bigger, just one big room and a little upstairs. The ticket costs 200 pesos, but it is possible to negotiate... I bargained two tickets for 300.It worths the visit but definitely is not a "must go".
