Historic museum offering zoology & geology galleries, plus an insectarium, guided tours & workshops.
Nice small natural history museum.
Best collection of animals I’ve ever seen, a lot of birds and mammals and even real bugs and spiders
Loved the museum, the staff was really helpful and the display was very nice
Great place especially for families with toddlers and school kids
I recommend visit to this animal and plant history museum. Collections of fossils and reconstruction of several species of plants, animals and birds. Also has some insects collection. Will be very interesting for kids.
They have LIVE animals in display! Very educational but very unethical. Great please to do LSD
Great place to visit specially on Sunday
It’s a small natural history museum in Lille. Cheap to get in and I guess it’s ok for the prices. It’s full (and I mean fullof stuffed animals especially birds. So it depends how keen you are to see stuffed animals. My kids (12 and 10quite liked it but note that there are no English translations so you’ll need to speak French to some extent or just not mind.On the bright side the cafe is really nice and the gift shop is good too. It’s worth it if you’ve an hour or so to kill but don’t make a special trip.
Though it is not big but you can spend more than an hour there. I liked the ant display there which is very interesting. It will be a 5 if it got a English translation.
Great bird taxidermy collections.
Its a bit we-have-it-so-we-show-it, but nice nonetheless. Small enough for a 1m5 hour visit and it doesnt cost an arm and a leg.
Small little museum, but well thought out and filled with a range of taxidermy.
Interesting, small museum. Will be done in less than two hours. Had a lot of fun looking at all the different animals.
Extremely cool. There are a lot of animals and insects.
Nice quaint museum. Enjoyed low tech simple museum. Spend about 90 minutes.
Very interesting, well look after museum
Nice fast and cheap , for little children that have seen peppa pig and want to see something about dinosauros
I went to this museum with my kids on vacation, reading on Google that it is family friendly. It is far from family friendly, disturbing for both children and adults, and disrespectful to nature.First, the insect cages are tiny, with live insects living in piles on top of each other with no natural light. The museum is small and packed with taxidermy animals, that offer no innovation to future science or art. We spent the afternoon as a family discussing why this was all wrong. Disrespectful, disturbing, and I advise to avoid this museum.
Magnificent exhibition. Huge taxidermy section as well!
Impressive museum. From taxidermy to tarantulas, leaf insects and ants.
Nice small museum and very reasonably priced
Didnt expect to like it as much as I did. Five stars!
The museum is quite nice. It is small, you can visit everything in one hour. The exhibits are organized, staff is super friendly and the cafeteria + shop are cozy. Ive heard they will close it for renovations soon, and reopen in a larger space. We will see!
It was a free day, but we had to wait about 40 minutes to get in. Bones, fossils, stuffed animals. The insects were alive, very rare and interesting! The children were very happy.
The musuem has a very big collection, which I have not seen ever in similar musuems, in different countries. But it really lacks lights! A lot of display windows are dark, you can barely see the details of animals displayed inside, too bad. I hope the musuem fix this issue.
A little small, but otherwise very interesting and enjoyable. Live insects available to see. Lots to look at
Lots of things to see. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very family friendly.
A nice, small museum with a huge taxidermy collection. Great for killing a bit of time if youre in the area and dont know what to do
Its mostly taxidermy. Lots and lots and lots of dead animals. Our toddler likes the few dinosaurs that are there, and the current exhibit on wolves is well done. Its not expensive, so its worth see if its your thing.
Really cute to take your kids or as an adult a casual stroll through an interesting museum. Staff was pretty much ignoring everyone. The only one who seemed to care was the cafe lady. That being said, for 5 euros can one complain?
The museum was very interesting and varied. Especially the living spiders and insects were super cool. We really enjoyed our time here!
Very interestingTalking about evolution and Darwins theory.
Fantastic menagerie of the weird and wonderful . Racks of many bird species all carefully labelled in old cases an especial delight. But try visit sans school parties , somewhat destroys atmosphere!
Quite small by the standards of National museums but they cram a lot in here, with the emphasis very much on birds... there are hundreds of stuffed birds in various display cabinets that look a bit neglected. Downstairs is a dedicated changeable display area aimed at children. Allow an hour or two to see everything rather than half a day.
Nice place to visit, the vivariums with live insects, spiders and millipedes are great. You could see really nice specimens of mimetic insects, like Stick bug and Leaf bug, Madagascar bugs, Crickets and many more. There are also a few dioramas with stuffed mammals, a huge collection of European and worldwide species of birds and a few groups of skeletons arranged in the comparative animal style. Despite the fact it is a small museum, it really worths to pay a visit. The lovers of old style-classic natural history museums will be delighted. Enjoy the visit!
Huge collection of stuffed animals (+- 1000 birds - its insane). Some pieces are very beautiful. Staff is nice, museum could use a renovation though.
Very compact but a great experience.....load of stuff, very well organised. Decent admission fees, free for under 12s. Strongly recommend 👍
Loved it!!! I will be back. The best museum in lille
Medium sized natural History museum with a slightly old fashioned feel. Very large collection of European bird taxidermy. Good diorama of world wildlife and exhibits on dinosaurs and geology. About a 15 minute walk from the town centre.
Good value for money. But unfortunately, a third of the exposition was close when we were there... A great collection of stuffed birds.
Extremely small and the museum itself is up to a renewing I think. They have some nice pieces (for instance the mummybut the presentation is very poor. The "closets" with all the birds are way too dark, and you dont see a thing (and there are also packed inside the closet). If you have nothing to do in Lille you may think of going there, but if you want to go to Lille just for this, you will be extremely disappointed. After 40 minutes we saw it all...
Some might consider the museum a little dry, a relic from the past, but for only 4 euros its a great place to visit. My only criticism would be the lack of English translations, but youre in France so better get the dictionary out.
Small museum but plenty of things to see. Stuffed local and exotic animals, as well as living animals in terrariums. Minerals, dinosaurs, a few fossils, skeletons. Unfortunately there is no souvenir shop nor is there an option to buy food or drinks. Toilets available, nice and clean. Very recommended for children. Overall very nice experience.
Really nice small museum, it has a beautiful collection!
Small but very interesting, especially the collection of birds; they were EVERYWHERE! Easy to find, sign posted from the main city. Staff spoke good English too. Not the biggest but a great way to waste an hour or two!
Very nice museum. At the time of visit thete was an amazing exhibition oh insectss mimicry with some very strange and unbelievable creatures. Also ants cutting leaves in a great spiral trip. As well as whole collection of birds, animals, so minerals. Highly recommended for all ages!
If you find yourself with a free hour or so in Lille the natural history museum makes for a nice afternoon. Its not very big and doesnt really compare to some of the other museums in Lille, but it also doesnt pretend to. For a relaxed tourist activity I definitely recommend. (Unless you have a fear of taxidermy birds)
Small and old museum located a bit off the city centre (20min walk). It does the job for kids I guess, but dont expect a bunch of fancy eye catching installations. For the 3 eur a ticket, you cant really complain.
Excellent museum, the taxidermy collection is incredible and all the exhibits are very fine work.If you find stuffed animals repellent then this museum isnt for you but otherwise Id definitely recommend it. The scale and the realism of the animals is incredible, the polar bear, for example, is mind bogglingly large.Overall, if youre thinking about going to this museum then by all means do it! A great experience and well worth the small entry fee.
So much to see, very interesting exhibits. Kept my kids enthralled even though we couldnt read the French descriptions.
