Rue Esseghem 135, 1090 Jette, Belgium, Lede
Comprehensive collection of paintings, photos & film works by Rene Magritte in his former home.
Not the most accessible curation for non-experts.Explanations only in Dutch & French
Two locations of Rene Magritte museums, one is part of the loyal art museum and one is his house. The house presents more original scenes and inspiration of his works, especially the neighborhood. But most works are shown at the art museum where his lifetime is shwon chronologically alongside his works.
Very interesting to be able to see so many of his work in one place. I love Magritte and it is a must to visit whilst in Brussels if you do!
Nice museum, nice staff!Strongly recommended!
Nice, small museum in Magrittes former home. It showcases his life and features recreations of some of his artwork that was lost in WWII. A good complement to the Magritte Museum downtown. The Museum of Abstract Art next door is small but has a nice selection, though Magrittes style is more my type.
Loved the museum! It is definitely different from visiting the museum near the Royal Palace, but it is an amazing opportunity to see how Magritte lived and where his pieces were created.
House of the painter like he lived there. You can visit all the rooms, inspiring view from the window to Atomium, garden,...
This is René Magritte’s home in Jette, not to be confused with the the large Magritte museum in the centre of Brussels. As such, it’s a small and intimate place to visit and is focused on Magritte’s life. When we visited, we were the only people there. It’s an interesting place, with objects from Magritte’s life, his paintings (and replicas), and also includes a modern art exhibition in the neighbouring building. If you have mobility problems, this is not the place to visit as you need to climb up and down several narrow staircases.
It was okay, but they didn’t have a lot. I was expecting a full-on museum, but I suppose it was my mistake to go without researching first. All in all a cool experience, just don’t go expecting much
No original artwork of Magritte in the museum and first 30 min. of the tour is not related to Magritte but to Belgian artists from the same period. If you are very Magritte-oriented, it can be quite the disappointment.
Ok
On recommande !
We loved this. Abstract art was great and Magrittes house is just surreal. The tram journey to get there is part of the experience.
To be visited if you like the painter, great insight on his life
Great staff for an amazing afternoon performance between Magritte, jazz & poetry! What a way to #ComebackBrussels! Highly recommend for an afternoon visit to Jette!
Nice staff great visit for Magritte fans
Very good to know more about magritte work. I missed some classic paintings that were not there as "lovers", "mans son". 🇧🇷
The house contains not only part of the furniture conserved as in Magrittes life, but also shows drawings, letters, photos and paintings that amazingly reproduce work that has been either missing or destroyed. The visitant receives a guide that explains all the pieces in display and the staff are friendly and willing to explain. Great experience!
M.A.A., te Jette, Esseghemstraat 135, is een absolute aanrader !
Love it!!!
Nice museum where lived great painter, highly recommend
Amazing!! The staff are so passionate and well informed and his house is so lovely to visit. So many places and objects that inspired many of his paintings are here
A local museum showcasing not the paintings but the life of the artiste.
This low-key Museum gives a great insight in Renés daily life.
Small and simple museum on the life of René Magritte, allowing for a glimpse into the more intimate life of the man, as well as some lesser known works (such as his advertising posters). I recommend downloading the free audio guide on Cloudguide (mobile app).
They dont accept credit cards and the bell doesnt always work, so you may have to ring a few times. Otherwise an excellent experience and a chance to see a place where the artist lived.
Great place for a great artist
Nice little museum that succeedes at presenting the life of one of the most known Belgian painters. Theres a lot of interesting memorabilia and little anecdotes about Magrittes life, worth seeing. Unfortunately, almost none of his art is displayed, because of copyright issues, a shame.
Quick visit is a must
Very informative audio tour is highly recommended. Especially if you speak English as the only English in the gallery is the names of pieces.
I really enjoy my visit to Magritte Museum. It was very good get more details about his biography and work. People there is very friendly.
Good place to stop and checkout an artist I had no clue about before. Most of the examples are prints or reconstructions.
Beautiful quaint museum
Its a nice museum, but I expected something more. You will need an audio guide, if you dont speak french.
House of the Belgian surrealist artist.
This museum is the house Magritte lived in. The art arent the originals. The house is kind of in the middle of nowhere but worth a visit if you a big fan of Magritte.
Very nice and interesting. Dont miss it If you are an art lover
I love this little museum. The other museum, in the center of town is great to see a lot of real works, but this museum, the former house of Magritte, still has the atmosphere of its former owner, and his wife, in it. It makes you feel closer to him, and there is so much to see on every floor. A lot of objects and some interesting copies. A hidden Gem!
Absolutely fantastic place, presenting the life and work of the surrealist painter. Concept of the museum very well done.
