Nature reserve–style zoo with animals grouped in large enclosures, as per their geographic spread.
Good zoo. Had large number of animals and almost every one I would have liked to see. Only missing was the hippoes. Also they were kept in large enough enclosures which tried to replicate their natural habitats well.
A huge place, with a lot species of animals to see. This place is clean, safe and very very pleasant to visit! The employees take great care of the animals
A beautiful zoo, the animals have a lot of room, its situated in nature, so its a nice walk in the fresh air. We loved the sea lions training/feeding time. Well equipped with facilities for food and toilets.
It is very big zoo. With entertainment for children. The annual ticket would worth, because you can’t probably see all places in one time.
A truly wonderful, 5 star zoo.The space is large, but not wasted and there is so much to see. The animals look healthy and well cared for, with larger enclosures than I’ve ever seen really. The zoo also has animals that I’ve never seen before, such as hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, maned wolves and polar bears. The animals are able to come quite close to you and seem to want to do so. I’ve never seen animals move around in a zoo so animatedly and it was truly lovely. We got to see some polar bears eating and a baby elephant playing with his family. One of the wild horses was also rolling in the dirt and having a play.We also saw some seagulls in the walk through aviary, which is funny to us, as they are super common everywhere in the UK. But I assume much less so in Munich! The amount of play areas for children and cafe / food options was also amazing. I would love to come back here. My photos are not great, I am sure that others can do this wonderful place justice. I’m just not a great photographer!I also think that compared to many attractions, this place is very good value for money. It was 18€ per adult when we visited.
Great place to entertain kids. There are several places for snacks, no need to worry when kids get hungry :)
Ticket price for adult 18€.The zoo staff will provide a zoo map.Crowded during the weekends. If you want to admire in silence everything, try to be there before 11/12AM, after will be crowded, a lot of families with screaming children.Inside of Zoo park, youll find a lot of places to eat/drink, affordable prices playing spots for children.Animals: giraffe🦒, elephant 🐘, monkey 🐒- orangutan 🦧, chimpanzee, gibbons, a lot of herbivores, turtles, birds, lion 🦁, penguin 🐧, sea lion, polar bear 🐻,wolf, llamas 🦙, capibara, snakes, fish and shark 🐠🐟.The acces is very easy from the U banh station, entrance Isar river.
Hellabrunn der münchner tier park is a Bio-diversity park spread around 40 hectares. One very special thing which I noticed here is that almost all the inmates are living in their natural environment surround by Isar river and water bodies. It has a lush green surrounding with various species of flora and fauna. It was a delighting moment for me to see Penguins Orang-utans i. e. Gorillas and Polar bears first time.It has numbers of birds, flamingos, various types of monkeys, mountain goats, giraffe, very old and big tortoises etc.Entire park is having restaurants and snack bar at various strategic locations so that visitors can take meals and drinks at their own convenience. It has a gift shop too. This place is well connected with underground metro (U-bahnand road. One suggestion, please keep sufficient time at your disposal to visit maximum enclosures.
Very well organized zoo with good infrastructure. There are restaurants, kiosks, bathrooms, chairs and tables everywhere. The animals are beautiful, well treated and fed. Installations are in good condition but somethings seems old or in need of a renovation. Lots of activities for all ages and a dedicated space for kids and toddlers. I’ve been to others zoos and this one seemed smaller in comparison, both in size and on how many animals they have. Specially the felines I was not lucky in the day I visited: all sleeping or hidden. Definitely worth the visit.
It was a very fun experience, the animals were partially sleeping or hidden at times but we just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time because the zoo offers commented feedings of some of the animals such as tigers, pelicans, sea lions and even the sharks but uncommented.Sadly we didnt catch any of them but it was due to our own bad planning😅Tip: If you want to skip long waiting times at the entrance, get there as early as possible or later than 12pm but by that time most feedings are over.
We had a blast. Lots of great views and attractions, the animals look well cared for, plenty of food options, and theres lots of playgrounds for the kids.
Had a great day at the zoo. Enjoyed going to the designated feeding times and the bird of prey show was really great. If you are there early quite a few animals are having their breakfast. The mear cats munching on the crickets are cute.
Excellent zoo with a lot of shade so it is also a good place to spend a sunny and hot day. If you have kids I recommend to rent a pull-along cart.
The zoo garden with many exhibits, very interesting and originally arranged as each star exhibit in its area there is a themed restaurant. I highly recommend
Many areas are not taken care of, long grass and weeds next to us made it sometimes impossible to take a look inside their habitats. The polar bears had soda plastic bottles in their habitats, I imagine used as "toys" but im sure there are way better things to use as toys than trash. The birdhouse was really well taken care of, and the birds looked healthy and happy, unlike the chimpanzee area where it looked dirty and the animals looked really sad, they had no toys which made it even worse. The big cats had an amazing habitat, they look well fed and happy. They are active and have places to hide. The aquarium was depressing. They keep really big fish in tiny tanks, were they can literally just turn around in their own ax, but have no place to swim. The shark tank is way too small for their necessities too.it was truly sad to see this.In resumethe good, clean bathrooms almost everywhere in the park, trash cans, and small cafés to buy some refreshments . Easy parkingThe bad, some animals live great others not so much.
Lovely zoo, tickets are a bit expensive but it is worth it, enclosures are really nicely decorated, and we spent around 3 hours slowly walking around watching the animals. There is multiple places where you have free water to drink, many small restaurants and bars and also many toilets. For children there is a huge number of nicely decorated playgrounds and most of them including the most of the paths around is covered by trees.
Expected a bit more after all the amazing reviews. Feel like 70% of animals are just goats. The whole place is a big park with some animals, not too much variety of exotic ones. Poor polar bears looked like they went insane in the heat. Lions and tiger werent thrilled either. Sea lions pool was so small, it was insane.Good thing: penguins had a nice, cooled place and received ice as well.
Wonderful! Among the forest on the Isar river coast... We spent a wonderful day in Hellabrunn zoo.P.S. Find the fish on the second photo 😉
The Munchen Zoo amenities are outstanding: natural animal enclosures, plenty of benches, lots of shade from big trees, numerous restaurants and washrooms. The whole place is very well designed and well contained, you wont find yourself walking for miles to see some buffalos hundreds of meters in the distance like Toronto Zoo has. There are also newly renovated facilities you can see everywhere. On the downside, animals are lacking in numbers, almost half the available space is unoccupied, while others (pelicans, flamingoesare visibly crowded. In the end it was a day worth going.
It was really a good experience visiting this zoo. Has lot of animals, birds. Lot of eateries and kids play area inside zoo. Sea lion training is must watch.
Very nice zoo where you can see a lot of wild animals from different continents. The zoo isvery suitable for the kids as there are many playgrounds inside
Really nice zoo to walk through. We didnt see the lions outside, which was a bit dissapointing but the gorillas and the tiger made our day :)
The place is a nice but good to avoid during vacation period (You cant enjoy the zoo in rush & crowd). Beautiful little aquarium, big area for each animal, rest rooms & refreshments shops round the corner, though Flemingo section looks dirty & smelly.Overall very nice tour.
I love this Zoo as it is one of the best organized parks where adults and children from different ages will enjoy and have an activity to do. The price was very good ( 18 Euro per adult ). Every part of the zoo have a coffee shop so people can rest and then continue their tour.
It was a great experience. So varied range of animals. We enjoyed a lot.A must visit place and spare atleast 4-5 hours if you want to enjoy the whole place.
Not soo small, not soo large. Most enclosures without fencing 🙂❤️. Beautiful sharks snd scary Murena 🫣.
On a summer day, even without having any kids I thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The zoo encloses variety of animals. You can easily spend half a day walking around here. A must visit place for parents with kids. If you are coming by car I recommend reaching early to secure a parking place. You can bring your own picnic mat and food here. Also multiple restaurants are available. Entrance fee is 18 euros for adults. Just keep in mind, it’s aCash only parking place like ( most places in Munich)
A great place to take children of all ages and is conveniently located close to an U-bahn station. The zoo can get super busy during the school holidays, so I would advise you to go early to beat the crowds. The animals are well cared for and the staff are very conscientious in their care for the animals. The zoo has a lot of food places and play areas for children. If you have a family and are looking for something to do in Munich, I would recommend the zoo.
A great zoo;Entrance fee is 18 euro for adults, there are discounts for kids, seniors and families; There are a lot of small shops with no seating but also at least 2 restaurants and a beer garden; At the end of the pari there is playground and a petting zoo;The aquarium is small but really prettyDont go on a holiday it is overcrowded with small kids. You can use bus 52 from and to Marienplatz.
The place is so huge, so green-it seems like walking in a real forest with flowing water in the animal area. It is clean and theres available toilet, café, Ice cream shop, and souvenir shop too. The place is totally safe.
It’s a fantastic place! Highly recommend to visit 😍 plenty of greens and happy animals
Beautiful zoo with cute and beautiful animals. Well organized and clean. You need at least 2-3 hours to see everything. It was fun.
The zoo is awesome, they have a great variety of animals, it is easily reachable via U-Bahn, and aquarium is amazing. However, a big part of the Zoo is still under construction and the closures are empty, so you cannot see all the animals, thus experience is not whole. Plus, as a reptile and snakes fan, there are only a few of them located in the zoo.
Great for having a nice day with the kids. Inside you can also find a playground for children, restaurants and tables and chairs to comfortably enjoy a snack. We have been there many times and every time we have fun!
A must visit if you are ever in Munich! A wide variety of animals and you truly freely they are in their element and not trapped in a cage. Some construction was happening so we couldn’t see all the animals for example the hippo. I just wish they do something about the toilets, free public toilets are considered cleaner 🙄
Short: Great Zoo. Only (!downside is the cash only parking lotLong: Beautiful display of a variety of animals, including many ones considered "exotic" in a european perspective (fish, reptiles, mammals of different size, birds etc). Animals in captivity are always a thing to discuss for sure, but my hope is they may draw attention to wildlife conservation. Entrance fee is about 18 Euros (kids are free up to a certain age, students and elderly discounted), make sure you have some hours to spend as theres a lot to see. Also a good location for kids with many small restaurants and playgrounds. Parking lots are close by - Nr1 lets you pay by the hour I think, Nr2 gives you a daytime ticket for 6 Euros (cash!!!). Attached are some images, bare in mind they only cover a very small percentage of the shown animals.
It’s a beautiful zoo and very well planned, plenty of activities for children of all ages. However, quite a few places are still under construction, so you don’t get to experience the whole zoo. The restaurant we went to was fabulous - we could reheat our baby food, get hot water and a hug chair with ease. Good day out!..
gorgeous to visit and spend a whole day. plenty of playgrounds, picnic spaces and outdoor restaurants available. however, they have raised their prices significantly and some habitats are very outdated and seem more cruel than protective of the animals trapped inside- especially those with the polar bears and penguins.
Nice zoo, well designed. Close to animals and a big living space for them. Some direction signs are not correct due to construction.
Best zoo in Germany. Tiger cage is not even closed which is a bit scary, but looks pretty cool. Wolf will be added too by this year. Polar bear, Giraffe,Lion, Elephant, snake, rhine , Owl, are worth of attractions.
Great place for kids, some animals were missing though. There are several cafes inside. Huge play area for kids at the end of the tour is a great attraction. Cleaning staff in WC could be a bit more polite
Great Zoo in the heart of Munich. Trying the best to make it species appropriate, currently renovating the enclosure of the lions, wolfes and flamingos. Making aware of species conservation with al lot of interesting infomation. Appropriate information for kids and adults.Crowed on the weekends, less people during the week.
Love this place! Some places you have to leave your stroller outside! So plan ahead! So many beautiful animals and they all seem so happy
My highest recommendation for all travellers to visit this amazing place! You can easily spend the whole day here! Stunning territory, fresh air, different animals which seem happy, a few places with delicious food - thats why we had so much fun in Munich zoo. To tell in short - this place is lit!!! It works from 9:00 - 17:00, but you can stay longer at the territory. The adult ticket costs 18€ and it totally worth it! Even if you have only one day in Munich - visit the Zoo Hellabrunn!
The biggest zoo Ive ever been to. Amazing place, clean, nice. Great variety of animals
We visited on a windy day, so was very cold . So check the weather before u visit. But still the Hellabrunn Zoo is a good place to visit with family. Lots of wild animals, colourful birds and fishes. You also have a restaurant where you can have fresh food.
Great zoo! So many species. They have indoor and outdoor facilities for almost all animals. Only sad thing was when the elephants were trying to get inside because they were cold. Super large though. Within great walking distance and good location.
The Zoo is really nice and wonderful. It has different varieties of animals, even Mouses and lovely Penguins. You will not walk a lot through pathways, rather you will see different animals through these payhways. A yearly ticket makes sense if you will visit the Zoo more than 3 three times per year.
Nice way to spend a sunny Sunday! The park is not so big, but has many different sections. There is many construction going on though. This year They had a baby elephant called Otto, and he is the star now! Eisbear is also very cool! TThere are also many cafes inside, and interesting kids playground. The entrance fee is 15€, but if you gonna come more often I suggest you take the annual ticket, which is 49€. But for this you need to do at the counter, and they are very very slow.... Be prepared for that.
This amazing zoo is a so called Geo zoo, for the most part animals have plenty of space. Perfect for families, plenty of places to get something to eat and drink. Many play areas for children and info points. Dont be afraid to stay the whole day.
