Muikkuravintola Sampo in Kuopio

This was one of the few places near Kuopio that served food after 8:00 p.m. The service and the food were both very, very good. The menu is varied. It is good to find a Sampo in the land of Kalevala.

Fresh, fried vendace is insanely good. And they know how to serve it properly. Service on Sunday evening was extremely quick and friendly. And pricing was surprisingly reasonable.

Very nice food but be sure to reserve a table in advance. We came before five an a thursday and it was full.

Hands down the best fish Ive eaten in 5 years. Albeit simple, this place changed my perception of these little fish. It was busy, booking a table might be a good idea

Best fish I had in years! Fresh and cooked with love. Their portions are huge and will fill you for the rest of the day. We were lucky to get a place there between lunch and dinner time. Most tables were reserved.

I wonder why they have anything else on a menu, if you look around, everyone is having main traditional dish ;)

The best place to try the “Muikku”

This place made me feel quite nostalgic. The food tasted like home and the decor was somewhat reminiscent of the old Europe thats slowly disappearing.I ate fried vendace a la sampo and my husband ordered a portion with fish, bacon and onion. Both were so simple and delicious.

Traditional is only word that describes this restaurant. Food is simple made and there is no trickery. Food tastes what is looks like. There are better places to eat vendace in Finland. Interior is pure legacy but still needs a bit of renovation. Service was good and efficient.

The best place in town to try all cooked versions of the little Muikku fish! Try the soup and the smoked version of the dish! The service is as well excellent as the food!

Wonderful place. The vendace they serve is incredible. If there is a go to place in Finland this is the place to go. It has a very homeish feeling in this place and you really get well taken care of by the waitress.The vendace looks wierd but the taste is from another world. Cant say it to much the vendnace was so good.

Possibly my favorite restaurant in the world. The food is super traditional and simple but done very, very well. Zero snobbery, just tasty little fish fried in butter.Honestly, Id give them a Michelin star if it was for me to decide. Good service too.

The best vendace fish restaurant in town. Book a table for evening, lunch time walk-in treat is usually available. Near the legendary Kuopio Harbour, but you should eat here in stead of the harbour joints.

Traditional place for sampling local vendance.Used to be better priced. Now, apart from the offer of a beer, fish and veggies for €8.5, the rest is in the €15+ range even dishes for nearly €20, which it seems a bit overpriced to me.Nevertheless the atmosphere is quite inviting, traditional and maritime.Worth paying a visit.

Very interesting restaurant, in both food and atmosphere wise. The decor is 80s style and it has even older details. The food on the other hand is local food and very well prepared. Id definitely recommend this to tourists visiting the city, but also for the Finns from other cities.

Im out of words when it comes to how legendary this place is. Good selection of traditional Finnish (mostlysea food which is very reasonable priced. Best jukebox in town to play some authentic Finnish tunes.
