Known also as the Green Monstary..no electricity or network available there which encourage feeling of separation inside it and around the green environment

Nice stop if on the way.Not worth a spefic trip.Once off the main road there is a short drive inside the forest until Reaching the monastery parking. Nice drive.Not a lot to do . Small monetary. Nice rest stop for photo opp. Unless you are religious.

Awesome church with great spirit!its located in the forrest on the hill between Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe, deserve to pay a visit. calm area, not too much people, very pleasant priest.Church has long story from past, dated 9-10 century.Renovated few years ago, has very beautiful icons.

Take minibus direction Dviri from Borjomi bus station at 10:15, 12:00, 13:15,14:30,…15-18 minutes ride, 0.5 lari, then walk 20 minutes along a creek to the (GreenMtsvane Monastery . Water behind the church is from the mt, drinkable. Minibus back to Borjomi at 12:30, 14:00,15:00, 17:00

Beautiful little Monastery about 2km off the road. Also known as the Green Monastery. If you have the time, it takes 30 - 45 minutes, well worth the visit the church and structures are beautiful3btraveler

Beautiful and calm place, with deep forest

Beautiful located in the middle of the forest 🌳. Surrounded by a little river and greenery. The monastery itself it’s beautiful and has its charm. Be respectful and don’t take pictures inside.

One of the exciting place Ive ever visited. Deep forest all green around and my favourite sound of small running river.

Nice, green area, I would advice to stop a car once you turn from the highway towards to Monastery and take a walk. It will talk about 10-15 minutes to walk to the monastery and it is very pleasant, not tiring walk in a pure nature.

Very calm place in the green forest. It is believed that church was constructed in 9th century. Church locates on the benche of small river chitakhevi and surrounded by spring waters. Maim feature of the place silent atmosphere.

Monastery was in very beautiful and cool location. Forest was really green and water spring has cold water even in June.

Monastic complex is located in the midle of forest with beautiful view a round, that is why it has name Green Monastery.Green Monastery or Chitekhevi St. George Monastery - IX Century Fathers Monastery in village Chitakhevi of Borjomi municipality. Scientists believe in the monastery of St. Grigol Khandztelis disciples, Christopher and Teodore, were built. The monastery complex includes a basilica-type church and a later sanctuary. The church is synonymous with the foundation of the monastery and dates back to the mid-century. It is built of roughly worked stone and has almost no decor. The chapel is two-storey, the first floor is a chapel and the second floor is a rich carved panchat.

Chitakhevi St. Georges Monastery, the same Green Monastery. Built in the IX century.People called “The Green Monastery”, because all the trees in the valley are of a special green color. The stones, with which the church is built, are also green, but some are dark and some are light.In the 16th century, during the invasions of Shah Thamaz, this monastery was raided. During this time dozens of monks were killed or tortured. The blood which remained on the stones thrown into the river Chitakhevi, belong to the monks killed in the 16thcentury. Bloody stones are spread along almost the entire length of the river running through the territory of the monastery.

A small monastery located a long drive from Tbilisi. There is also a short offroad section before you reach this monastery.There is a small garden with few butterflies there. Near the monastery there is also water flowing from the springs.

A must stop not far from the center of Borjomi. Its well marked on the main road, but does need a good vehicle to drive unpaved road in. Ancient and simply beautiful. The most interesting is the small chapel on the side with ancient human bones. Unfortunately the story is only in Georgian. The brook and park along side the brook is very peaceful for picnics. Take note the bathroom facilities need serious upgrading for tourists, bring supplies.

Very beautiful place to visit. beautiful view and nice small church.

The monastery is located in a beautiful forest, but the chapel itself has nothing special. We couldnt spot the reported red color of the river.

Beautiful surroundings and forest, although when I went there (august 2016heavy works were going around the monastery which didnt make it the quieter experience.

If you looking for a quite, natural, beautiful and holy place to praying God, this place strongly recommend to you.

It`s best Monastery of Georgia for me. Highly recommended.
