Veteran spot for hearty meals such as spaghetti, burgers & fish 'n' chips in relaxed surroundings.
Bowl of wonton noodle soup was great. Who wudda thought that a place like this would have authentic wonton noodle soup??? ๐It had a flavourful bone broth chicken stock that didnโt taste like msg. The wonton were made of pork. There was no shrimp like the Hong Kong version has. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. This is the real deal if you are of Cantonese heritage, or as close as you will find anywhere. A picky criticism on my part would be to point out that the wontons were actually a little too large and the filling could have used some water chestnut and maybe some Chinese mushroom.Other than that, this dish is a winner that you cannot find anywhere else except in a small town that has original Cantonese descendants who obviously care about the food they put out.My real criticism is that they have their C-19 protocols still up. They were ridiculous when they came out a year ago and theyโre even more ridiculous now.
The short version: this is a fun little restaurant that has something delicious for everyone. We love Mrs. Riches. The interior decorating is reason enough to goโฆ memorabilia on the walls, a car mounted on the wall, and many other things you will have to discover yourself. The menu is varied with something for everyone and everything we have tried has been great. Personally I recommend the Wor Wonton soup, and the milkshakes! The portions are large and eradicate the biggest growlies, or give you a second meal to enjoy at home.
Great service and good wonton soup!! Massive wonton!!
Really was not impressed at all. Had the Fettuccini Alfredo and the pasta was swimming in a bowl of mediocre Alfredo sauce...didnt even finish my meal it was so unappealing.
Pleasant staff and interesting decor. I had the wonton soup. It was amazing with shrimp and BBQ pork on top. I highly recommend it.
10/10, Service was incredible, food came out fast and delicious. Just an overall great experience.
If there was an option I would have given them 10 out of 10. Great atmosphere, really friendly staff, so many options. We had bacon onion burger, super delicious, honey garlic chicken burger, tasted perfect. Honey garlic chicken plate which was so fresh. And Fat kids dream pasta the best Alfredo sauce ever. It is a must try restaurant. Definitely recommended, I must tell them donโt change anything you are great the way you are.
I had the wor wonton soup and it was amazing ๐๐ they are even smart enough to grill the prawns on a skewer and then serve them across the top of your bowl so the prawns have amazing flavor !!!! The wonton are home-made and make your mouth water with flavor.
I miss the wor wontong soup. It was without a doubt the best I have ever had. I moved to the mainland and I really miss it.
They need to add some flavour to the ground beef, the burger was tasteless, and the French fries taste like cardboard! I wonโt go back .
Great food Ive tried a few things on menu great quality and portions and service was good I highly recommend this restaurant! Our server Han was very helpful and courteous
Was really looking forward to trying this place. The atmosphere was fun and our server was amazing. But the food was just okay. The salad was fine and the won ton soup were interesting, and tasted decent, but not spectacular. Will likely be back to try the desserts but so far not in the top five best places weve tried in Nanaimo. My wife wanted to give it 4/5 so well split the difference and call it 3.5
Tonight we by fluke chose to go Mrs. Richies.( I wanted family friendly and a good burger)So I ended up on old Google and boom up popped Mrs. Richies! From the moment we walked in the door ( the friendly welcome was huge and super appreciated)Kimberly was our waitress and she was excellent.I had to try the won ton soup and wow!!!!!!Also had the chicken cordon blue burger and the bacon onion burger!!!The gravy and fries are incredible ๐Ill try poutine next time as I dislike coated fries and these were definitely not coasted and crisp yet soft!!! Yummy!!!My Cesars was great!!!Seriously what absolute treat.Currently fat, full and extremely happy.
We come here once every couple of years. And it has never failed to impress. The food is always the tastiest you could imagine, the portions are large. And our servers have always seem to be the best nanaimo has to offer. Thanks Mrs. Riches, your the best.
Excellent wonton soup and delicious food all around!
Good food. Large portions. You wont leave hungry!
Come for the Phow, stay for the rest of the menue. Absolutely everything on this menu is delicious and amazing ๐ ๐
This place should be called pho town or something cause the pho here is phoreal. Plus the fact they have burgers to go with your pho, makes this a st9ners heaven!!!! You guys rock!
It was good, but has gone down hill lately. Last visit made sure we would not come back. The Vietnamese restaurant on Bowen satisfies my craving for wonton soup more anyway.
Amazing food, great service. Definitely will be back
Doing such a great job, amazing service and excellent food ๐ฅฐ
The burger I had was so juicy! I actually was not expecting that. A bit scary to get here if its snowing, its at the end of a very steep hill!
Best chicken Alfredo Iโve had in my entire life, slightly crispy, just the right amount of Parmesan and perfectly cooked. Literally, melted in my mouth. Iโve never thought about a meal this long after having it. My dad also loved his burger. The amazing food combined with the retro atmosphere and unparalleled customer service definitely makes this place easily one of the best restaurants Iโve ever been too.
Not one vegetarian option in the whole menu, not even a salad or veggie burger and a $2.50 charge to customize something to make it vegetarian. 30% of the population is vegetarian or veganโฆtime to make the menu more modern.
Im a huge fan of the Teriyaki Steak Sandwich. I would highly recommend. The cut of meat is always tender and cooked to my choice of medium rare.Staff are friendly and very efficient. Ive been a customer for at least 10 yrs. I can highly recommend!
The place is super cozy with lots of good options for all foodies, their prices also are more than affordable, they also offer delivery and take away as well.Great place for a casual dinner or even occasionsWould definitely recommend for anyone visiting the Nanaimo
Mrs Riches: They have very friendly service, good Covid precautions and a quiet setting. The K2 Burger Challenge is a thing to behold. If you can consume this violently large burger platter, you eat for free. Their polaroid wall of fame is like a gladiator memorial of failed hopefuls who flung their Pretorian hopes at this meat atrocity. Try itโฆ with a defibrillator present and EHS Advanced Life Support on standbyโฆ. This enormous food platter needs only wheels to double as a meat chariotโฆ or at least a bathtub. Bring your camera and call ahead for this burger (they need advanced notice). $67 if you canโt finish it. Meat sweats are free. We brought our burliest alpha male. He stacked his hopes high on this โburgerโ but only slayed 60% of it before adopting a curious sitting angle, pained facial expressions and a litany of excuses . I believe doctors call this โprotein exhaustionโ.
My husband is very disappointed to say his delicious beef dip did not compare to his wifes teriyaki chicken Alfredo with sautรฉed mushrooms. There fore he had to enjoy both meals to his great satisfaction . . ๐
A nanaimo legend!! I have been enjoying this restaurant since I was a teenager. The Mediterranean wontons have always been a fave. Recently tried the cordon bleu burger, delicious!! Thanks Mrs. Riches team!! Job well done.
Got the Swiss alps burger, and with the exception of cheap buffets, thats probably the most food you can get for 25 bucks. I was really hungry and that more then filled me up.
Delicious wor won ton soup!
Dropped by for lunch today. Really enjoyed the fish and chips. The staff were super nice and very attentive to our needs. Will definitely drop by for a meal next time we are in town.
Very art deco, quick service and food was great
Great food with incredibly friendly staff. We did not attempt the 2K Mountain Burger challenge but did enjoy some of the other food. The Wonton Soup was delicious!
Love this place, just finished eating here with my buddy.I had the beef dip, very soft bun and prime beef that melts in your mouth with a delicious Au Jus.He had the chicken cordon bleu burger and told me it was delicious.Great food, great service!
Im from Edmonton and came to visit family in Nanaimo. We came there last night for supper for my parents 47th Anniversary. Wow all the meals we had were delicious, the prices are great and the staff are fantastic!! Absolutely love the old diner style with all the memorabilia, sure is a great conversation over dinner. Thank you Mrs Ritchie for a fantastic dining experience!!! Will be back again soon! Highly recommend!!
Food was good, staff was GREAT.The place does need a serious dusting though. Cobwebs span the ceiling in the entrance. Not little cobwebs either; these suckers are 6+ ft and span from wall to wall and are thick.
Han was great had our order ready right when he said it would be. He took a moment to share a picture of his dogs with us. After we told him we were eating in our truck so our dogs werent alone to long. We had a wrap and a burger both were above our expectations and more Frys then we could finish( dogs were helpful and grateful). We will be back.
Wow that was awesome as usual. Everything about it was great today. Kimberlys service and food descriptions were perfect and service and prices were good. I love the atmosphere in here theres always lots to look at and everytime I go I find things I didnt see before. Both are meals were great and tasty and filling. You really need to try there Wontons there and the onion rings were amazing as Kimberly described. Have to try something new everytime I go back.
Amazing service, as always. We come here every year for my birthday dinner and it never disappoints. Huge portions, friendly staff, incredible drinks, fun atmosphere.
Cute decor and nice music selection (Backstreet boys and Shania Twain ๐)The food was fine, had wonton soup, just not my taste.
So happy they are open again. I love their war wonton absolutely delicious
Great food, good prices, decent portions, nice staff... What more could you want. There was a short waiting time to get in however, but the food was worth it.
"Its OK" is a great way to describe this restaurant. The food was pretty decent and they had a large menu but ever time I go there the price tag keeps going up and the food seems to be prepared with less and less care. The servers are always great and they seem to work very hard. The restaurant feels like it could use a cleaning and it could make better use of its space. The bar seems completely wasted.
Surprised a friend by taking her here. She absolutely loved it and so did I. Prices might seem high but it lives up to the quality. It was dead at lunch time so we got to take a venture around the restaurant and have a gander
Delicious and huge ๐ wor wonton soup with mozzarella cheese bread and veal cutlets very tender๐๐
Awesome food for a great price. The wonton is the bomb and there burgers are amazing. Huge portion sizes and a great atmosphere!
Make sure to take the time to look at the decor, the photos and read the history. Family friendly, tons of menu choices and great staff. Good food with a home cooked flavour...and lots of it!
Featured on "You Gotta Eat Here", and boasting award winning wonton soup, we thought wed stop in for lunch, finding the place mostly empty at noon on a Saturday.I started with the wonton soup, and got a small bowl with a lot of vegetables that I feel dont add much. Big, boring chunks of broccoli, carrot and cauliflower take up important broth and wonton space! Broth is pretty good. Wontons are large but a bit bland. Im not sure what the comparison was but I think the pool must have been pretty small.I ordered the bacon onion brioche burger and fries. The burger was substantial, but otherwise unremarkable, despite having bacon, cheese, onions and onion rings on it.House fries arent bad. Middle of the road, but they also have little competition from anything else, so maybe they just seem better than they are.Partner had the fish and chips with prawns, which were unfortunately, one of the worst plates weve had in the city so far. The fish is VERY heavily breaded, which makes it extra greasy, and really makes it taste of the fryer, and there was universally more breading than fish. The accompanying tartar sauce was not great, and the 5 small grilled(?Prawns tasted of nothing but salt. The only thing that might draw me back here is the foolish k2 burger challenge, because Im a sucker for absurdity.(I will at least suggest that they subscribe to the US theory of more is better because you get a LOT of food even on the normal orders)With all respect to John Catucci, you absolutely dont gotta eat here. The above with sodas (free refillscame to $46 before tip.
Comfort food at its finest this restaurant will not disappoint. Be ready to bring your appetite as you are guaranteed to leave satisfied. Fair price for the portion. My recommendation, try the war wonton with mozzarella garlic bread, but then again everything else is pretty good.Feeling like a little challenge? try defeating the k2 burger challenge in under an hour in the ring for a free shirt, meal, and your picture on the wall of fame.
