Casual Indian eatery offering an all-you-can-eat buffet as well as serving made-to-order favorites.
Very tasty buffet. Decent variety. Lunch is $10 or $11. Customer service is good. However, parking is limited and the restaurant is a bit dark and outdated
Really good buffet choices, as well as chutneys. They rotate their dishes, so you are not always getting the same things. And they always have a good selection of veggie items as well. The environment is a bit lackluster and could use some sprucing up, but I go for the food, so...
Go for a one and done experience.Cant even hold a candle to a decent 2 star Indian Restaurant. I cant recall when was the last time i was presented with Indian food that was anything but. I was appalled at the buffet choice and some one said it was mediocre and thats an understatement. It is far from mediocre to the point that it is a one and done experience for anyone looking for an authentic Indian food. Not one of the buffet items were presentable and looked like they were cooked in a hurry or burnt. I am sorry I am not sure how people can give 4 stars. I have dined in far better Indian restaurants which have 2-3 stars minimum. This is just an honest review from someone who knows Indian food quite a bit and even folks who are not Indian but have experienced good Indian food may find this place quite disappointing.
The usual Indian lunch buffet seen all across the US in Indian restaurants, primarily North Indian food. Quality was mediocre at the best. But who doesn’t liked buffets! It was full, the service was so-so as well, just like quality. Almost all the stuffs were ok except for the dessert, it was really bad.
Mr. Currys is easy to walk past without noticing it, but make SURE you find it!! They serve delicious, authentic South Indian food; buffet style. Everything is excellent but the bhatura and masala chai are the best you will find anywhere! Wonderful employees and the nicest owner you will meet. Be sure to check this place out... it is a rare find!
Great lunch buffet. Plenty of offerings. Good spice level. Constantly bringing out fresh servings. Good quality. Self serve due to buffet style. Incredibly well priced. Seating is comfy. Staff friendly and keep it clean.
delicious food and you pay AFTER eating. buffet ($10 cash or $11 creditincludes over 12 choices, lots of vegetarian options, unlimited! Mango Lessi, Indian Chai, and 2 dessert options; plus all the different toppings. yum!!! Wish they had longer hours of operation.
Someone, probably white people trying to make indian food, nice try! It’s edible, not Indian though. Using indian spice doesn’t mean you make indian food!
The only reason it even gets 2 stars is because they had decent "Chai" which is tea. The food was clearly old and not fresh, it was SUPER spicey and Im of middle eastern decent. I Couldnt eat anything with out my insides burning. When I told the lady working she didnt do anything and still charged me. I literally had 4 bites of random dishes to find something I could handle. After having no luck I was still handed a bill. I would recommend going to Himalayan Yeti if you want a good Indian experience. Anywhere but here.
I love Indian buffets but this is the worst I’ve ever tried. Food was soggy, not fresh, and bland. Restaurant was dirty and run down. I’d rather take the time to drive to Rasoi in the CWE.
Mr. Currys has a time and a place. Looking for $10 all you can eat Indian food that is totally edible? Then this is your place. Your time is lunch time. The food was good, not great, which exactly what I expect from a buffet at lunch. The staff was incredibly friendly and the place is clean. The buffet never ran out and the selection was just big enough to be satisfied. The highlights: coconut curry chicken and a wide array of chutneys that were all tasty. Bang for the buck depends on your hunger - Im a hungry guy so ROI was high. The lowlights: the friend goods had obviously been steam tabled, because they were all soggy by the time they hit my plate, not crispy.Would I go back? Probably, but its not 5he first place Id think of if downtown.
Went in, couldn’t find a worker, first time there, a customer saw my confusion & told me to just go through the line, then pay at the end.Food was really tasty, love the serve yourself hot chai tea...I recommend this indian buffet, will definitely go back again! I gave 4 stars due to no one togreet you.
Had high expectations and waited all week to try this restaurant out. Its was ok. The butter chicken was flavorless, the chicken vindaloo had almost no chicken. Not one of my better experiences in n St. Louis.
What a very strange experience! upon entering this place there was virtually no one there including what appeared to be any workers. But there were a lot of choices. it is a buffet-style and it has one of the largest selections of chutneys and sauces Ive seen in an Indian restaurant. The food is generally speaking okay. Its not bad there are a lot of interesting items to choose from. I particularly like the fried bananas for dessert. I was eventually able to pay my bill. what appeared to be the only person working that day did eventually come out to accept my payment. I will be trying it again
It was good to see the Indian food over there... All items are very tasty in buffet and worth on price... moreover i got chai also and it was awesome taste... great
Not as spicy as Im used to, but Americanized for those who cant stand the heat. There are plenty of good sauces and chutneys to spice it up if you like your food spicier! If you are vegan, vegetarian, or only eat chicken theres a hot satisfying meal waiting for you. Cafeteria style Buffet, all you care to eat eat-in or fill a container to purchase by the pound to take back to the office. I would suggest you get there early so the vegetables arent overcooked if you dont like them softer.
Buffet is back! They had stopped doing a buffet, but they had posted on Facebook they were doing the buffet again so I went back. Excellent food with a good variety, and worth the price. I highly recommend giving it a try.
I did not eat here, even after going through significant trouble to find a parking spot and paying for it. There is a decided lack of information on the website regarding the nature and cost of the lunch buffet, and the phone went straight to voicemail at 11:30am. I later discovered that the price ($9.95, weekdaywas actually given in a rotating banner picture. The website mentioned setting new standards for the quality of Indian food, but the small selection compared to the Indian buffets I am used to in Kansas City did not even tempt me to try. There was no salad at all, and three vegetarian choices. At 12:30pm, there was a single table occupied. And the price to value relationship was nothing to brag about. I think if the website would create more realistic expectations, I would have probably stayed.
A Indian Food Buffet gem, hidden in the heart of downtown. The food is great and very affordable. If you like Indian Food, definitely check this place out! Some Vegan and Vegetarian options available also!
The food was fair, but I prefer spicier. They do have an area so that you can add your own hot spices, but if you are not used to that, you can definitely over do it. That being said, they have amazing lassi and a few other gems on the menu. I went with three stars because it didnt make my "gotta go back" list. It is pretty reasonably priced at $10 if you pay in cash. ($11 on a card.I will go back at some point, probably, because of its proximity to my work.
I cant believe how long it took me to write a review for Mr. Currys. I guess it takes being away from the city to realize this is simply the BEST Indian restaurant Ive ever been too.Lets start with the food, the buffet selection is amazing - it offers an array of delicious chicken, lamb/goat, and vegetarian options. Some menus are rotating. All dishes are well prepared all FULL OF FLAVORS. Not to mention so many choices of chutneys/dips. I could never get tired of the dishes here. Btw, their ground lamb is usually pretty spicy but most other dishes do not have a lot of heat. They, however, have a rather mild but creamy taste that flatters the flavor of the ingredients themselves. I actually prefer that the dishes are not just masked by heavy spices.Amazing Indian cuisine at a shockingly affordable price is not the only reason I came here. My favorite part has always been the owner of Mr. Currys. He is the one of the nicest, kindest, and most genuine person Ive ever met. He always warmed my heart whenever I came here. He would kindly offer tips and solutions for the most trivial questions I brought up. I hope he is doing well! I want to have the chance to say thank you to him again.Their Chai is the most delicious but not aggressive Ive ever had. They bottled the mix for sale for a while that literally made my day. I hope they bring it back. Btw they now offer takeouts priced by weight, so you can get fresh, hot, yummy food in small portions without worrying about wasting it. How great is that!Im a huge Asian food lover and this has been my favorite place to treat myself on a budget. Even the memory of it has made me disappointed by most other Indian restaurants I came across, be it in San Francisco or DC. Id highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a mild Indian cuisine or just need someone to talk to.
This place has 3rd class Indian food. Very low quality, cheap and badly prepared food.Veg biryani was actually fried rice with clumps of white non basmati rice mixed in.I can understand all the good reviews are from the people of non Indian origin, who dont know what real Indian food looks like. They are unfortunately missing the proper Indian food.
The food was poor, probably one of the worst Indian restaurants Ive been too. I would suggest staying away from this place. I dont understand all the 5 star ratings, you can find much better and higher quality of Indian food out there.
Great lunch spot! Friendly, affordable, and delicious! They make certain dishes every day of the week and we visited on Tuesday. We were happy to find it was vegan day! All of the vegetarian dishes they had were made with out dairy. This was great because the wife us lactose intolerant. We both enjoyed the Chana Masala and I loved the 🐑 curry. As an added bonus, chai and mango lassie is included in the buffet price! If you pay in cash, you save an extra buck$!! Well done Mr. Curry, well done.
Great place for a lunch buffet. I love getting to try a variety of different dishes at a reasonable price. They have vegetarian and meat options, all of them delicious. If youre craving Indian food, heres a great spot for lunch.
How could anyone find this place tolerable? The lighting is dim, chairs have holes, the plates have chips. I was deeply disappointed in the condition of upkeep to this space. I felt I was in the third world. The food is below par and is poorly presented. The buffet has no sneeze guards and I question the sanitary conditions. I dont understand the positive reviews.
Came with a group of India friends and found the food here is very tasty!
I eat Indian food often so I believe I know the good and the bad. This restaurant does not deserve the credit its getting from other reviews. This is definitely not good Indian food. I can tell that the food isnt fresh. The curry is flavored with sugar which is the wrong way to do it.
The food here seems more Indian-themed than true Indian food. I feel bad only giving this restaurant 3 stars, as I dont find it bad, just toned down. It is like the Indian version of Panda Express. The lunch buffet is small but does feature veg and non-veg options. The kheer is pretty good. Other food options seem to have muted flavors. They have a variety of chutneys and hot sauces to dial the food up a bit. The waitstaff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable.
Of all the places that have claimed to serve Indian cuisine in and around St. Louis Mr Currys has been the biggest let down for me, yet. The extra star in the rating is awarded for the saving grace on the menu - the kheer. I havent been able to convince myself to back for the rest of buffet spread in the last few months and that might remain so until I hear of a dramatic improvement on offer.
Food was sweet and not traditional Indian food. Went for buffet and the waiting line was too long. There was nobody at the front desk to guide first time customers. Overall, not a good experience.
Was looking for a buffet located close to downtown and found Mr. Currys. I hadnt had Indian food prior to my visit but the food was very tasty. If youre a first time visitor you pay after you eat which can throw you off of youre not expecting that.
There is no real other Indian restaurant nearby, in the downtown area, which makes this establishment a go to for many. The food is great, but is very Americanized. It is a buffet-style setting, so you can get what you want and leave the rest. The lamb and curry is my favorite.
Probably the best deal on food in St. Louis. Unlimited high-quality buffet with a bunch of unique options as well as unlimited delicious Mango Lassi and chai tea, all for $10 cash ($11 with credit card). Nice people too. Only problem is not being able to try everything before getting stuffed.
While the cost of the buffet is reasonable, the food is very sub-par. Most of the curries on the buffet is overly sweet, even the tea that is kept at the end of the buffet is extremely sweet. The owner refuses to make anything authentic. When I spoke to him about the quality of his food, he came back saying he has a good measure of what he does and would not change it. Too bad the competition across the road "India Palace" which actually made better food than this guy has been closed down
Stopped in for lunch during my trip and wow, loved this place. Good selection, some new Indian cuisine I havent had before, and the owner was really nice and personable.
My best friend and I frequent this place probably 3 to 4 times a month. We go on fridays for the chicken tiki masala everything on the buffet is soooo good. The staff is warm and welcoming and the owner is amazing!!!
Went here with some family and friends a few weeks ago. The environment was so welcoming. Great friendly staff. The food was delicious, probably the best Indian buffet Ive ever had
Lunch buffet was great. Mango lassi is included in the buffet price, which is awesome. A decent amount of choices and all the food was quite tasty.
So many amazing Indian dishes to try at the buffet. It is all very high quality but the price is right. It makes you never want to get full! The chai tea is delicious and included in the buffet. Mmmhh
Very Authentic and traditional Indian food with Large selections for low price! ($8.75 the day we visited). We loved it and strongly recommend, especially for who never had Indian food and wanted to try from a large verity of selections. Surprisingly the Chai Tea and Mango Lassie on the buffet for free! first time we ever seen that..
Super cheap for a Indian buffet restaurant with quality foods. Most of the dishes tasted good, my only gripe is they are on the sweeter side instead of having a kick (spicy). Tikka Masala was really good - both pakora and dish also the korma and lassie. I wish they are open more than 3 hr/day.
I stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for something vegetarian while visiting St Louis. Boy, was I surprised. I am Indian, so I know what good Indian food is. The food was as good as any I have had in USA. Mango lassi was perfect, Chai was good, bhatura was surprisingly good, so was the mixed veg.Its a pity they dont open for dinner. If I go to St Louis again, this will be the place to go to.
What a deal. I am from Canada and only in St Louis for a couple hours. I will come back next chance. I had lunch buffet an for under $10, huge delicious selection. Several appetisers, dessert, mango lassi, chai, pop, and great selection of chutneys (my favourite was the garlic pickle).
Very good restaurant, they serve the best tikki’s I have ever eaten. They can improve service, but the food is up to mark. For those who have not tried Indian food in the St. Louis area, you know where to go. Come pick up some authentic indian food.
The curry is awesome! I eat curry since I was 2 years old so you can trust me. It is so cheap $8.75+tax and you get unlimited food plus drink! The mango lassi is thick as crazy (in a good way). Very quiet environment you feel like eating in a jungle
I came just after opening hours (from 11AM-2PM), no problem for the owner. Instead of sending me aways because the accounts were already done, he gave me his divine curries and didnt let me pay. Thats pure character & passion for food.
I recommend it.Im always a skeptic when I look for Indian restaurants. Got to admit, good food, low price. Tea is too sweet for my taste; but that doesnt stop me from giving a 5 star.
Fantastic Indian food! All you can eat buffet for under $8. Variety of spice levels (Im a wimp with spice!and friendly staff! Buttery Chicken was my favorite! Must try!
One of the good Indian restaurant. The taste is good. hotel is clean and price is reasonable. for buffet $ 7.69 with water is a good deal. I tried here twice till today and both the time i feel it worth. They should increase variety in dessert section.
