A sleek candlelit restaurant serving rustic Slovakian cuisine and happy hour cocktails.
Fabulous dinner! The menu had so many delicious looking options that it was difficult to even choose. The sweet dumpling for pudding was wonderful!
Really nice food and excellent service. Cocktails and mocktails were really good as well. They were happy to accomodate our toddler as well, which was much appreciated.
Absolutely impeccable service and food. Staff were lovely and very accommodating. I highly recommend the Confit of Duck if you visit! Will definitely be back when visiting Oxford again
Lovely restaurant serving comforting Central European dishes. The halusky starter was fantastic, with a strong aroma of paprika and balanced well with the sauerkraut. The pork shank was also nice, tender and flavoursome meat, and not too massive as to be intimidating to finish. The cocktails were very nice, and the service was friendly. The goulash was unfortunately quite disappointing, as the sauce was surprisingly bland, and could have done with some sour cream for contrast.
Incredible food and great service. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Weve been twice now, and both times have been absolutely fantastic! The food is delicious: we both love devils toast (both "normal" and veggie), the meat dishes have been outstanding (Ive never had such tender pork before, highly recommend the pork shank), and the cocktails are lovely (and plentiful!). To top it off, the service is fantastic, and you can tell that everyone who works there cares about what they do.The first time was so good, my girlfriend chose this as the place for her birthday meal. We plan on making this our regular go-to treat, and wed recommend it to anyone who finds themselves nearby!
This is our 3rd time of going and the food is excellent
Lovely restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and unusual but delicious food. Highly recommended for something a little bit different (Slovak cuisine).
Slovak cuisine is not widely represented in the UK and some ingredients can be often difficult to find, but these guys do a fantastic job at producing the most delicious traditional dishes Ive ever tasted outside of my parents kitchen. Id highly recommend visiting! This is the only place I know of that will put Becherovka in your cocktail (Honeysuckle, thank me later).
Quick, diligent service. Vegetable and potato salad was great, not too filling but enough to whet the appetite. Made space for the duck confit, which was crispy and juicy with a superb gravy and relish to boot. Finished things off with a traditional bubble fruit cake, which was also incredible. Not to mention the cocktails, which were delicious and quite strong, even on the happy hour! Top marks across the board everyone, will absolutely come again. Ďakujem veľmi pekne!
Absolutely incredible food, friendly and welcoming staff. Will be coming back here!
Brilliant as every time we visit. Husband and I visited yesterday for my late birthday dinner and we loved it as always. I had Bryndzove halusky in my mind and so I ordered them and they were delicious. Lighter texture than traditional and it worked great (removed the stodginess and feeling stuffed after). I am intrigued on how this was achieved. Recipe please! I managed pudding still afterwards - yummy as always. Friendly staff and everything great. Thank you
Amazing tasty meal. Cocktails were fab too. Great staff lovely place to eat
Wonderful restaurant with great food and amazing staff. I have been to Moya for a dinner date with my wife several times and every time we loved it.
The atmosphere is very friendly and you cant find food like this in any other restaurant in Oxford. Even if you havent yet tried Central European food, you should give it a try.
Great food. Lovely coffee. Wonderful staff. Will be back soon!
Fantastic cocktails, consistently excellent food and great value! A long term favourite of mine.
Great menu, great service and lovely surroundings. The Slovakian food was the star. Will definitely go back to sample more of the menu.
Really enjoyed the meal. The restaurant is clean and well presented. The serving staff were lovely....and the food really yummy. Would recommend you make a visit.
Lovely food and fantastic cocktails. A bit easily overlooked as Slovak food isnt top on most peoples lists! But this place has been around for so long because of committed customers who recognise how good it is. Go and try it out.
Moya served fantastic Slovak food and the service was great. I will absolutely be returning when I am back in Oxford. An absolute must try if you are in the area.
Oh well, if I can give a 0 star if I could.1. The attitude. The old English guy was literally saying Slovakian food is very different than Czech food when my fiancee was showing him a picture of what she wanted. In the end, because of he insisted, my fiancee didnt ordered the food she wanted. Well, my fiancee is a Czech, and she knows there is not too much difference. Has he ever heard of Czechoslovakia? And why would he even trying to correct an ACTUAL CZECH who knows the food more than him?2. Flavour. Im Chinese, I was seeking for a high expectation on flavours and texture. But oh god, IT HAS NO TASTE and its far different than the original slovkian one, dont argue with me, my mother in-law is from Slovakia and she is a chef. I ordered Goulash, should be more salty as people use dumpling to dip and eat, dumpling has no flavour thats why you should make it saltier. TEXTURE wise: well, the meat, ughhh, did you marinate it or not? Beef looks like small strips, chewy like paper. Well, I sincerely suggest your chef to try and put some salt and corn flour plus egg white on the meat when marinating the meat. Then it would be soft, literally soft.3. Portion, I really dont like the portion. Small, goulash is supposed to be served with 4 dumplings instead of 3. And the beef portion is way too small.4. Service. No one come to ask hows the food. NO ONE. Until we pay the bill, and they saw us didnt finish the food.5. I suppose a Slovakian restaurant at least should have some Slovakian or Czech people work in there but no. Its like you go to a Chinese restaurant and there is a Boris Johnson saying what would you like to have today. Disgrace, Im really not happy about that! If you are English cook your own fish and chips. Dont make the food from other countries, because it will ended up as Im typing the bad reviews. YOU ARE DESTROY THE REPUTATION OF THE FOOD FROM OTHER COUNTRY.
Moya is one of my favourite restaurants. We had a lovely meal yesterday evening - beautifully presented and very fresh. The staff are always very friendly.
Cocktails were really great given the price, and the food was warm and homely.
Amazing to be back, post-lockdown. The food is Central European but light and elegant. Hearty portions served with a smile. And truly the best espresso martini in Oxford. Simply: a must!
Good fun, I recommend the devils bread, so tasty!
We did have a native speaker w us but our waitress was 100% British and on point. Lovely meal and wines. The food was authentic and had the perfect mix of appearance, flavor, and aroma.
Passed the restaurant by so many times without noticing it, but i heard it has been around for more than 10 years and has garnered quite a following. I can see why - food was really tasty. Duck confit and pork shank (highly recommend the pork shank!were both really tender and flavourful. Service was impeccable, very personal and friendly.
Ate here for an anniversary dinner. Had the duck and pork dishes, which were so tender they really did just fall off the bone. The dumplings were also amazing. Unfortunately the food was so filling that we couldnt fit in any dessert. The staff were also fantastic. Polite, friendly and funny. I got the sense that a lot of the customers were regulars as well, which really added to the whole atmosphere (I also wouldnt be surprised that people would become regulars given how excellent the food and service was).
The staff is incredibly polite, the ambience and music are great. The food is amazing value for money - you can get a 3 course meal with drinks for under 30 pounds. I ordered the lamb shank, it was slow cooked and delicious; the meat was coming off the bone exactly like its supposed to.My only complaint is that my date found a hair in her goulash but it didnt ruin her evening and Im happy to give 5 stars.
Came here for dinner and it was fantastic. We had the duck. When I usually order duck anywhere else the duck comes and it is generally quite chewy. The duck at Moya was fall off the bone type of duck. Tender. The staff were also fantastic as were the cocktails. Particularly nice was the Turkish delight cocktail. Highly recommended.
If you havent gone there already, go now. The food is ace, staff are wonderful, great value too. Not too loud so its really good for conversation.
Lovely place. Comfortable and modern inside. Menu gives a good choice and very helpful knowledgeable staff. Gluten free was no problem! Price wise very reasonable with no compromise on quality. Will definitely go again
Friendly staff, but very pricey for what you get. Maybe it’s just my personal taste, but I found the food to be very boring.
Fantastic food, sublime service and a relaxing ambiance. I especially liked the ice cold beer and the traditional slovakian dishes. My fiance was very impressed. Go, you wont be disappointed!
Been here twice now, even though its a long way from where we live. The staff are very friendly and the food in amazing... always gives my wife a taste of "home". Would definitely recommend.
I knew absolutely nothing about Slovakian food before coming to this place, but I didn’t expect it to be this good. Great little restaurant away from the more touristy centre. Prices are good as portions are large. A good option if you’re tired of the same old Italian and French-style restaurants which are omnipresent in Oxford.
We have just finished eating a very delicious meal. Loved all of it and highly recommend the Devils Toast, the Goulash, The Turkey Schnitzel and Turkey Escolopes. Friendly and attentive Waiting staff and our son enjoyed his White Russian. Stopping in Oxford for 2 nights. Very happy with this find tonight. Highly Recommend!
One of my favourite restaurants in Oxford. Absolutely lovely staff, a cozy and warm atmosphere, delicious food and dessert (devils toast, goulash, bubble cake etc). Everyone Ive introduced this restaurant to loved it! Would recommend to anyone.
What a fantastic little place. Wide selection on the menu, long list of drinks and cocktails and theres normally a few specials on offer too. The staff were friendly and fast, and set us up with drinks quickly - I recommend the virgin cherry daiquiri. I had the pork shank and boy, the meat really did just fall off the bone. Just fantastic. My wifes meal was the mini dumplings with mushrooms. It was all so good we stayed for dessert and that was fantastic as well. In summary, friendly staff, tasty food, excellent dessert, nice drinks. Ace.
Excellent food, drink, and service. The menu is also vegetarian friendly. One of my favourite restaurants in Oxford.
Just brilliant, great food and cocktails bubble cake is not to be missed!
Delicious food. Great cocktails. Super friendly service. The staff here make you feel very comfortable and dont rush you at all, the food and cocktails have been amazing both times weve visited. Heavily recommend.
Not only is this food delicious, they also serve by far the best cocktails in Oxford! I am very much a regular here. I love the Devils Toast, the fried cauliflower and puy lentils and the poppy seed dumpling pudding. The staff are friendly, atmosphere is always warm and the Old Fashions are made with care and attention. Definitely give it a try.
Incredible. The fruit dumpling was delightful. Everyone enjoyed every dish. Great staff, great food.
Looking for somewhere to eat that was whelchair-friendly and gluten-free friendly, I stumbled across this. What a find! Fantastic food for everyone, great drinks, brilliant service and great value. Whatever myths you might have heard about East European food, Moya will dispel them. Well definitely be going back. This is one of Oxfords hidden treasures.
One of my favourite restaurants in Oxford. The food is soo good. Great cocktails too. The staff are really friendly. Even when its packed you dont feel claustrophobic or need to shout to hold a conversation.
I visited Moya on my birthday and to be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about trying a Slovakian restaurant. Im so glad I did though, as the everything from the food, to the service and the cocktails was fantastic. The goulash and the duck in particular are absolutely worth seeking out. I would normally walk past a restaurant like this, but its great to find a place with so much heart, and Im glad it opened my eyes to Slovakian cuisine.
Excellent food to the extent we went on both evenings of our visit. Sea bream, rabbit, goulash, and duck all sampled and consistently good. As was the apple pie (delicious - had on both nights). Great service from friendly staff. A must if you visit Oxford. (A 10-15 minute pleasant walk from the centre.)
Food is fantastic, particularly for the price.Dont miss the "Devils toast", and try out the dumpling-style bread which comes with some of the main meals. We tried the goulash and the pork knuckle, and will be back again for more.Staff are very friendly and service is excellent.
